I’m in the same boat as you about returning to gw2. When I stopped playing ele’s were considered “useless” in the zerker meta where people just brought a mesmer and all warriors or something ridiculous of that nature.
Then somehow ele’s became part of the zerker meta with their ice bow and their fire fields which allowed people to spam blast finishers and stack might. That is to say, staff elementalists in the current state of the game is in a fairly good place to my understanding.
Come heart of thorns though and in particular raids, that seems to be very much up in the air. From what I am reading people are theorizing that the most powerful builds will be that of necromancers with reaper specializations or the revenant with their elite specs. The ele elite specs people don’t seem to be that excited about from what I’ve read.
Ahh alright cool its good to know once I’m lvl 80 I wont have so much trouble with healing. It’s the GETTING to lvl 80 that’s a little troublesome as I don’t have all these traits unlocked yet. Maybe if I have that earth elemental to tank it might make things a bit easier. Granted it’s not terribly difficult as it is right now but I’m just concerned at how little healing I currently have, when I do dungeons and such I was worried I’d get erased in 1 hit with no way of getting back into the fight.
I didn’t know you could shift + key bind, that’s a terrific idea I’ll defn try that right now! My fingers are so used to V being my dodge that I don’t want to zxcv my F skills, thanks guys!
Alright that makes a lot more sense. I have that blast finisher healing skill just so I can activate it on healing rain and get some decent healing and that has been ehh. I guess now if i need some emergency burst healing I can do water 5 swap to earth 2 and THEN do the water blast heal.
zxcv is a great idea for attunement swapping! Only problem is what do you rebind v for dodge? I’ve grown fairly used to v=dodge but I’m willing to try something else that works!
I’m not even lvl 30 yet on my ele so I’ve been throwing out whatever skill at random and it seems to be working, in fact I just mostly stay in staff fire attunement and with the cooldown of lavafont to 4s I seem to do fine. But any advice on good damage rotations for times when I actually need to be precise?
I have some noob issues w/ eles:
So, my understanding of elementalist is that they offer a lot of utility, healing and support WHILE doing respectable DPS in their own right. So I rolled an ele and I’m on my way to lvl 80-ing it. I can kind of see the damage and utility aspects of staff ele which I enjoy but I’m not really seeing the healing. I understand it might have to do with the water field + blast finishers but how do I activate that myself? I’m probably blind but I’m not really seeing a lot of blast finishers on the staff…
Also, I do have a gaming mouse with multiple keys but even still switching elements is really a pain in the kitten , if people have any suggestions on optimal key bindings I would really appreciate that. And by optimal I mean whatever works lol. My fingers aren’t long enough to consistently hit the F keys in the middle of a battle to pull off complicated DPS rotations, for sure.

Thanks guys I think I’ll try that DPS build Brazil showcased with GS/S/Axe that was linked. Looks interesting. I’ll probably mess around with bows a bit because its fun shooting things from range
Ah are those builds up to date? I must have missed them I was actually looking for a thread like that… let me go back and look closer. I remember when I was playing playing a condition character was “bad” for dungeons because once you cap out on bleed stacks or whatever, there’s nothing more you can do. So I was wondering how the builds evolved.
Regarding weapons rangers seem to be able to use both, so I figure I’ll stay ranged unless something jumps on top of me and I can swap to melee. I assume that’s how it will work anyway (like I said I have no idea how this class works as a whole).
Hey all,
I used to play GW2 previously (thieves/necros/guards mostly) and stopped just after fractals became a thing, mostly due to real life issues (but also due to the rather toxic pugs and “viable speed run builds/classes”… not into that nonsense). Anyway, new expansion so I bought a new account, fresh start!
I never leveled a ranger before, I know very little of the class at the moment, so I was looking for some end game builds and some general tips on what abilities to try/combo as I grind to 80! I’ll be almost exclusively doing PvE stuff (eventually work my way into dungeons and fractals), maybe dabble into WvW just for fun every now and again.
Thanks all in advance.
Awesome thanks I’ll look into guardians! Wanted to make a norn character anyway, they don’t really look right if they aren’t warriors or guardians lol
Sorry I just realized how broad my query was.
I’m looking to run mostly PvE for now, maybe WvW later (I’m not really much of a PvP guy, I dabble in it occasionally but it’s not my thing). I really enjoy playing builds with lots of AoE, just dive into the middle of mobs and melt things (thereby need some degree of tankiness – or at least some means of not dying immediately). So if there is currently a class/build that does that very well (by that I mean I can do that vs tough content in dungeons and whatnot) I want to try that out.
Back in the day condition builds used to do that well, but the problem became that condition classes weren’t very good against bosses so weren’t “viable” in dungeons. Wonder if that changed?
Hey all,
Quick little background blerb:
I used to play GW2 a lot after it came out, loved it, but left after fractals came out – it was a lot of “you don’t know how to use this exploit in this dungeon,” or “you play that class so we don’t want you in the party because you aren’t full zerker” and basically the multiplayer aspect of the game became no fun for me anymore. Real life stuff came up and I slowly just stopped playing.
With the expansion coming out though, I just bought a brand new account and trying to start fresh. But everything in the build system is different! That being said, which classes/builds are the most fun to play right now? I’d rather avoid the warrior zerker meta if that’s still a thing, but open to other warrior and class builds!
So basically, I’m looking for some end game builds for classes that are fun to play!
Thanks in advance.
