Returning player Boosted Necro

in Necromancer

Tiggers.3890

I believe you get all rabid gear if you boosted Necro iirc. Which isn’t really all that terrible if you want to run PvE content. I only play PvE so I can’t comment on PvP or WvW stuff.

Reapers aren’t all doom and gloom, I pug T4 fractals all the time and each group has at least 2 necros if not more. I almost exclusively play necro in fractals these days, finish the content with relative ease and I find it still plenty fun.

The problem is, before the recent nerf necros also did fairly good condi damage esp if they had druids around healing the jagged horrors and having them up forever, with the jagged horror nerfs, my necro’s damage is pretty awful in comparison to where it was before. They fell out of the raids meta comp because of this (except maybe vs mathias due to condi transfer).

Necro’s have no problem surviving HoT content, and no one cares what you run in dungeons anymore as long as you brings level 80s. So overall, necros are in an “eh” place in my opinion. I would say go on and get your reaper unlocked, then work to get ascended viper’s gear for the end game condi build.

Burn Guards, legit option for PvE?

in Guardian

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

This new patch has me excited for burn guards, I’m starting to thteorycraft the following (I’m sure there is already a burn guardian guide somewhere that’s more well thought out than my musings, but please feel free to put your input!) I’ll summarize the build below with emphasis on how that matters to the build. I did not test any of this yet, still in theorycrafting phase so if you have any experience using this build please let me know!

Gear: Vipers all (though sinister rabid or carrion should also work, carrion more so than rabid maybe due to zeal trait that gives u condition damage based on power)
Runes: Superior rune of the flame legion
Traits: Virtues, Radiance and DH
Weapons: Not sure actually, thinking Mace/Torch for the most part, with GS to gather people, dropping skill 4 symbol and racking up some quick hits with skill 2

Virtues:
-Inspired virtue: Gets 3 stacks might on each Justice Active (meh)
-Unscathed contender: More damage with aegis active (sure, why not)
-Virtue of retribution: Gain Retal on every Justice active (meh)
-Virtuous solace: Get the shield thing when rezzing (meh)
-Power of the virtuous: More damage for more boons + faster virtue recharge (YES pls!)
-Permeating wrath: Main reason why I’m excited about this build, burn every 3 attacks and burns are now AoE

Radiance
-All 3 minor traits are great for this build, justice is blind applies AoE blind on active, Renewed justice sounds AMAZING for this build, refreshes justice on each kill, and radiant power, 10% inc crit chance on burning foes
-Inner fire to give fury when foe has 3+ stacks of burn (should be pretty constant)
-Radiant fire is a must to inc burn duration and radiant fire each time you crit
-Amplified wrath to inc burn damage

Dragonhunter (though not sure if this is optimal)
-Nothing here seems to be really vital to the burn build itself but it does offer some quality of life I think. The access to traps I think will help tremendously because much of everything we do will be melee, big game hunter also increase damage to targets that are speared by 10%. Seems solid enough.
-Other option would be to go zeal here but none of the choices seem particularly sexy, increased burn chance when standing on symbols and more damage to enemies that stand on symbols I guess contribute somewhat but meh…

Self Sufficient PvE HoT map ele build?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

My Ele is geared out in the “meta” DPS (all berserkers with scholar runes — and I have an all assasin’s set as well) for running dungeons and fractals. And while I can usually do just fine with this set up in HoT maps, it requires close attention because 1 or 2 hits can insta kill my squishy squishy ele. And I don’t necessarily want to be on my toes the entire time I’m on HoT maps grinding xps for masteries and such…

Now, I main Reaper and love how she can handle pretty much any situation in a HoT map including solo-ing most events, solo-ing HPs and most champions if needed due to innate tankiness + very nice AoE damage. Her playstyle is very forgiving as a result. I was wondering if tempest had an equivilent build? There has to be other viable options besides all zerker all the time!

Are druids a safe pick to learn raiding?

Tiggers.3890

Dayam, tell everyone how you really feel…

I do have a berserker, herald, DH, reaper, chrono, tempest, and daredevil already fully unlocked so I don’t HAVE to start learning with ranger, I thought they would be the easiest and safest pick into raids. Is there a better “safe” class to pick to start learning raids with?

By safe I mean I can contribute meaningfully to the raid while learning the mechanics without being a liability (i.e. getting one shot)

Are druids a safe pick to learn raiding?

in Ranger

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

I’m working on my ranger now, I have close to enough tomes to 80 my ranger out and maybe another day or so to unlock druid (she’ll be my 7th lvl 80 so by now I got the HoT ES grind down pat).

I never raided before (I don’t have a full ascended character yet) but based on what I’ve seen it seems very possible to do raids on exotics provided you know the encounter, so I’m planning on diving right in (… assuming I can find a guild that don’t mind teaching newbies raids…)

Are druids a good option to take into raids? I figure spamming heals from range is a little easier to do while learning raid mechanics, as opposed to taking my tempest there and focusing on my rotations.

Also I checked the raid builds from metabattle, it’s recommending an axe/torch viper build, viper armor is pretty kitten hard to get. Any alternative suggestions?

Staff bruiser build possible for thief? PvE

in Thief

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

I love my reaper, diving into 10 enemies in HoT maps in full zerk gear and be reasonably certain I’ll wipe them all out without much problems even if I take heavy Pressure. I love that bruiser build play style where I’m not necessarily tanks per se but I have ways of mitigating damage (reaper shroud and my shouts in reaper’s case). Reaper unfortunately is designed to be fairly immobile so that’s a little meh. So I’m working to 80 my thief for fun.

I’m wondering if daredevil can do something similar with staff? Obviously they don’t have reaper shroud but they have a ton of gap closers and evades. Is a similar playstyle possible? Or do I have to do the “take out one guy and stealth to de aggro, then do it again and again!”

Ideal PvE map completion build?

in Guardian

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

Btw to narrow the scope a little bit, I think an “ideal PvE map completion build” should have the following:
1. Ability to get from point A to B quickly.
There are some built in weapons and utility skills that help a little with that like GS 3, Staff 3 for swiftness, retreat, F2, but that’s not really enough for perma swiftness. Maybe superior runes of the traveller needed?
2. Getting from point A to B with the ability to run past things that you dont want to waste time killing.
Meaning, access to lots of stability and multiple condi cleanse to deal with mobs that immob, knock you down, etc. Esp in HoT maps and Orr — quite annoying.
3. Ability to quickly complete heart quests.
Which means basically ability to 1-2 shot everything as the majority of heart quests is “look for x and kill them.”

I’m just picking up the guardian class so I don’t have an innate knowledge of all their skills and abilities but with these things in mind, anyone have ideas on build and gear?

I finally finished getting 100% ES unlocked on my guard and now it’s map completion time in both core tyria and HoT maps! My guy is decked out in all zerker fractal running gear but this is not necessarily ideal for map completion. Of course, zerker gear is fine for map completion too but not as efficient. And it’s fun theorycrafting!

Anyone have any gear or build in mind?

How is scrapper/hammer in PvE?

in Engineer

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

It is tough that’s true. But my first level 80 was an ele so I’m used to pressing a lot of buttons and making peace with the fact that I’m one squishy tree (although my engi is an asura… Squishy midget then).

My question is, is the play style fun and rewarding? Or can a burn zerker do what burn engi do using like half the effort (cuz if that’s the case I’ll be pretty sour…)

How is scrapper/hammer in PvE?

in Engineer

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

I’m about to 0-80 my engineer fairly quickly due to tomes/crafting (I never played the class much and had tomes pile up from doing fractals, so I figure I might as well put them to use). Consequently I don’t really have a lot of knowledge on the in’s and outs of the class (I got to level 30 playing the class normally and then worked on other classes, so I have a basic understanding how the condi rotation works and such).

Thing is I rarely see many engi or scrapper at the higher fractals and if I do it’s the burn viper engi no one lugs a hammer around. So I’m just curious how the end game for engineers go, do I even need scrapper unlocked to get the most out of this class in PvE?

Well I am a thief noob this is true but I have gear and gold from my 5 other lvl 80s, I actually do have some ascended armor (zerker) already from fractal drops (I keep getting friggin wrist and head drops so I ended up getting it for multiple armor classes). This is to say, once I get to lvl 80 I’m pretty sure I can get to end game gear within another 2 weeks ish. I was just curious what people use for end game thieves, I have seen a few in lvl 50+ fractals but few and far in between, and NOBODY runs a staff which makes me a sad panda… I kind of wanna play a martial artist with the bo staf =(

Tiggers.3890

I want to make a level 80 of every character and gear it out to current meta builds, currently I have herald reaper tempest zerker chrono, working on druid scrapper DH and… now daredevil/thief.

Which sounds like a very fun class to be honest but I did a little homework and omg the salt… apparently the thief is bad in every game mode, not viable in high lvl fractals, no1 wants them in raids, and on and on and on… I’m not even sure what I just got myself into.

Is this class really just that bad? Or its just lazy people griping about a hard to play class that can be very good if played properly like engineer but requires effort?

Also in terms of end game, is it better to go for condi or power build for thief/dd? I don’t PvP and exclusively do PvE (WvW I go for some xp boost but nothing more)

Chrono support help

in Mesmer

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

I was inspired by the wellomancer chrono gameplay where she can give almost perma quickness and some evades stability etc while doing some respectable dps. I finally unlocked 100% of chrono ES, full exotic zerker gear with superior runes of chronomancer exotic sword and shield.

Now I feel like I have all the tools but not the skill, I honestly don’t know what I’m doing just throwing out wells and hoping for the best. Can some more experienced chrono players who plays this style help me out in terms of what I should be doing to do party support while doing some dps and of course staying alive?

Warrior coming from a long break

All of those complaints are PvP related. I think that’s mainly due to berserker not really helping out much for PvP whereas the ES for other classes gave them significant buffs. Warriors in PvE is just fine as berserker is a significant dps upgrade, condi warrior is now a thing because of it in addition to warriors classic phalanx might stacking build and such

Advice for 100% map completion on warriors?

Tiggers.3890

This is an achievement I want to get (then maybe work my way into getting a legendary) but omg its sooooooooooo annoying and time consuming to do! Also feels unrewarding once your character is already level 80 but now that there are tyria mastery points that extra xp goes to SOMETHING I guess…

Anyway, I was told warriors are especially good at this because of high mobility and innate tankiness/access to stability to ignore mobs to get what you need to get done. However, in terms of mobility I’ve only come across warhorn 4 and sword 2, GS 3. Any others I can spam to have basically 100% uptime on mobility? Any utility skills or overall builds that help out with this mission?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Guard/DH PvE, endgame thoughts?

Next on my mission to get 1 character of every class to 80, guardians! (So far I fully unlocked Herald Reaper and Tempest, have a lvl 80 mesmer but not liking the gameplay much). The thing is, I like to have a build in mind to shoot for when I get to lvl 80, I’m not entirely sure what that is exactly. What are some endgame gear/builds DH are having success with in respect to dungeons, lvl 50-70 fractals (cuz I’m not messing with anything higher until ANET tweaks it) and raids?

I think I’ll try to do map completion on my guard (my ele has 51% but he’s… squshy. Like “if I’m not on full alert I’m gonna die” squishy). My question is, how do guards to with mobility to get from point A to B quickly?

Also I have a human male guardian, recommendations on some nice skins to get also very welcome! (I’m thinking I want a medival “dark knight” kind of look)

Condi warrior, this a thing?

Tiggers.3890

I used to main warrior back in the day, quit playing about a year ago and picked up again after HoT. So far have a lvl 80 Ele, Necro, Mesmer, Revanent, now to work on warrior!

When I used to play it was all zerk all the time and the playstyle was… ehh. Condi warrior looked pretty interesting with swords doing lots of bleeds and longbow with burns but back then condi was “inferior.” Things changed lately.

So… most condi classes I see are engi and necro, is condi warrior a thing (I’m talking PvE, dungeons and fractals and maybe even raids one day)? If so, what do they run usually, longbow and sword sword? Any builds people have in mind that’s kicking tail? (My warrior only lvl 14 at the moment but will probably be 80 in another 3-4 days I have some tomes saved up =D)

I currently run condi and I want to have a power set to swap builds when necessary/I feel like it. The ones I’m familiar with run full zerker but I have heard people running knight or cavaliers, and then there are the whole slew of HoT stats like captain marauder and all sorts of other stuff that I didn’t see too many people messing with yet. What’s all your opinion on the different gear sets for running power necro?

Also what about the runes for these power do you guys think work well with the power build? Strength runes for sure has a place I think but those things aren’t cheap!

How is Necro/Reaper in HoT?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

As far as I know condi necro is just fine and from what I have seen in videos posted they see plenty of action in raids too (power necros however are not, again as far as I know). I just got my necro to 80 geared him out in cheap rabid gear (with the intent of eventually upgrading to viper) I have no issues whatsoever in HoT jungle, dungeons or fractals (granted I haven’t tried going over fractal 50+ yet). I don’t know about “mediocre” necro DPS, I’m not a great engi player but in my experience engi is 5x harder to execute while being twice as squishy and I don’t find the theoretical “superior” engi dps to be worth all the micro.

Thanks for all the advice guys! This really is a fun (albeit tricky) class to play, one quick observation: I find myself focusing a lot on switching kits to hit with my high damage skills as mentioned above but that kind of takes my focus off of dodging properly and I get into a lot of “OH CRAP!!!” moments where I’m low and often downed.

So my question, what do I do with Engi’s when have the “oh crap I need to burst heal NOW!!!” moments? (And/or getting into a situation where I know I’ll be taking lots of hits)

Hi all!

I’m a returning GW2 player who used to main guard and warrior, after my little (ahem, ~2 year) break I decided to make a new account and start fresh (read: I forgot my pw for my previous account…)

ANYWAY I never had an engi before and I never had a condi class before, now that condi’s are actually on par with other builds I really want to make an condi engi! Though, after looking around a bit its clear that the engi is perhaps the hardest class to play, I looked up guides before but I still have a few questions:

1. Is there “one” particular condi build that’s significantly better than others or are there several different equally effective variants? Is it the one thats up on metabattle or has there been changes?

2. Does condi engi use scrapper ES or is everything basically condi engi stuff?

3. Most importantly, can someone walk me through the damage rotation for engis? From what I understand there different variants to this rotations, would someone mind just going over them and explaining which is applicable in what situation?

Thanks everyone in advance for your advice!

So I’m making this thread to ask some basic noob questions:
1. Mesmers I’m told are very good at busting break bars and stripping boons. Errm… How exactly do I do this?
2. I’ve seen mesmers portal people through certain dungeons through CoF and occasionally pop the reflect in projectile bosses, and ofc time warp. Any other high utility skills I should know of?
3. If there is any specific chronomancer build y’all think will do really well right now in dungeons/fractals and eventually raids?
4. Along with #3, what kind of gear should I be working on? Normally people just went zerk zerk zerk but with the new HoT stat sets what do you think of like the commander’s or marauders set for example?

Thanks for any advice, I appreciate it!

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tiggers.3890

Tiggers.3890

And i dont know how many times ive said to him thats not what they were for. But hes refusing to accept that. :P

I don’t understand… I think what you are trying to say is that you are using spreadsheet math as a basis of comparison with the caveat that none of this is real but lets use something as baseline so we have an idea. Ok fair enough, this gives you something to contrast other skills/stats/classes, and lets u say this is better than that, because look hypothetically this does x dps and that does y.

The counter argument presented is that the basis of comparison that you are using is inadequate because it doesn’t account for most of what you see in the game, it’s a stationary target that just sits there, doesn’t fight back and allows you to do everything you want it to do to it. It also doesn’t account for different armors and buffs the boss has, doesn’t account for the boss actually fighting back requiring you to do something defensive (block, dodge, stability, whatever).

So the problem clearly is… the counter argument presents a very glaring hole in your comparisons because you said x is better than y. But in this boss fight x cannot go through the damage rotation you theory crafted to equate the same DPS you calculated because of his armor, his buffs, the fact that he goes invuln or stealth or whatever. In comparison, the other build y would have actual higher dps because he uses for example condi damage, armor doesnt mean anything for him and the boss still takes damage in stealth. So your theory crafting just took a poop all over class y and said your class x is better in this situation, when this is just not true…

Enter nemesis’ argument, every fight is different there are different builds that are better at different fights, don’t make overarching comments like “this is better because this does blaaaah damage” when in reality this just isnt true… I dont see what’s there to even argue here… what am I missing? I’m honestly trying to understand the debate

Tempest HoT jungle chill mode build?

Back Story:

Pre HoT I did what all ele’s did, DPS DPS I NEED MORE DPS AAAARRRRR!!!!

Then comes HoT jungle which, honestly, DPS works just fine but it’s… irritating sometimes. Run into those pocket raptors? How about those mushrooms? The shadow stalk beast thing? Having 15 mordrem spawn out of the blue when you are just chilling at a WP? Yea… thats not a great feeling, esp since the jungle is pretty new and I want to explore a bit without always having to be on alert or else I get pwned.

On top of that, tempest ES to me anyway isn’t as exciting to try as herald or reaper or (what I’m working on currently) leveling a mesmer so I can do chronomancer, I kinda put my ele on the shelf. And that makes me sad since ele was my first lvl 80 I had.

What I’m looking for:
A tempest based build (so I have an excuse to grind HPs) that makes exploring the jungle much easier, do the events and just have some fun! I’ve heard people talking about the supporty auramancer build but the caveat is always “THIS BUILD IS BAD!!! But hey its fun so… try it!” So yea… I’m game!

TL;DR
Me want tempest build for PvE specifically the jungle and jungle based meta events. And maybe even dungeons and low lvl fractals as a bonus for a different playstyle (though I can always swap to DPS AAARRRRGGG!!!! build/gear if necessary)

My understanding was that Glint was supposed to offer some personal defense increase as well as self/party buffs, which will carry over as i switch stances to shiro and now I have a bunch of buffs (+ a little more health from glint’s defensive abilities) that will hit harder. Then I rinse and repeat. So far that really hasn’t been happening for me. How do you guys play this?

I haven’t really seen a lot of thieves or daredevils around though, I would really be a sad panda if that’s because the end game for thieves/daredevil isn’t up to par with other classes… what do you guys think, worth unlocking daredevil (this thing will easily take me 30 hours I don’t have tomes or anything)

AOE and burst combos with rev?

Don’t get me wrong it’s not like I’m going to stop playing Rev in fact I’m probably going to main this guy — I fully expect anet to tune some things back and buff some things (the staff for example feels extremely underwhelming, I don’t even know what its supposed to be it seems like a mix of guardian staff utility and daredevil melee martial artist thing but it kind of does neither well imo). It’s just that for a class with so much utility, a gameplay so simple made me feel like I’m doing it wrong, you know?

I’m lvl 67 now maybe once I get to 80 and unlock herald things will be more engaging, complicated and fun!

Hmm that’s a little disappointing looking at the rev skill set there is so many evades and blocks and reflects built in that I felt it would have a really high skill cap and be incredible when mastered… But it sounds like all I have to do is jump on a guy activate the super speed and auto attack away… Meh.

Hey guys,

I have been just messing around with rev and basically doing whatever to get things killed as I leveled up. I hear rev has really good burst but I haven’t stumbled upon it yet and in terms of AoE unless I’m using mace I am struggling a bit with. How about you guys?

Good leveling builds for necro?

The reaper just looks so kitten that I want to level me a necro. I just got done finishing 1-80 an elementalist (took 55 hours!!! Granted I was mostly just exploring and playing casually enjoying the scene) so getting a necro there before HoT releases will be pretty difficult in 6 ish days. Hence I’m wondering what some good leveling builds for necro is until I hit 80 (at that point I probably want to make a tanky sustain condi build because my ele is already my glass cannon I want to play different things!)

I was actually trying really hard to figure out how to self blast my own water fields but besides earth 2 on staff and a few utility skills there aren’t a lot of blast skills. So when my health gets low I swap to water cast 5 and 3 and then use the arcane utility skill blast finisher then swap back to DPS mode. Problem is once I blow through that combo it’s on a pretty loooong cooldown.

I absolutely didn’t make this thread to complain about the class or class mechanics — that is not my intent at all I apologize if anything I said made it sound that way. I’m just trying to learn the class and figured I could get some hints/advice/ideas from the forum about what I’m struggling with, often times I miss something really simple or a slight adjustment that makes things a lot more effective.

It’s certainly not an easy class to play but I’m attracted to the hard to master classes (provided that I can do some pretty neat things once I master the class and do some high end dungeons and fractals — I’m not in a big guild and soooooo far from end game gear that raids aren’t even on my radar currently).

Sounds like you guys are recommending I try different weapons to see if that makes my life easier (thinking scepter focus, really not a fan of the short range dagger main hand). I’ll give it a shot. I’ll probably go back to staff once I hit 80 and get some exotic gear with high damage, if I can kill everything before it can kill me, well problem solved!

I’m using staff I enjoy the range and the DPS. I tried d/d but it didn’t feel as solid, very short range and it feels like I have to work a lot harder to ultimately achieve less DPS than I would with staff.

After kitten ing around for some 30 hrs or so in this class (aka I’m a noob when it comes to this class) I found two things:
1. If I have people tanking for me my lvl 60 staff ele can pretty much put out almost as much DPS as anyone on the same level as me and often times as much as a non glass lvl 80. Which is impressive but doing the DPS is the easy part. The hard part is…
2. If enemies happen to jump on me, I’m dead. Like utterly dead. I have one heal which doesn’t heal for much (the signet) then swapping to water for a little more heal which seems minuscule. I’m sure I’m playing this incorrectly hence my post seeking advice from
Experienced vets.

Now I’m not a stranger to fragile glass characters (I played a lot of thief) but Ele doesn’t have the disengage tools thieves do and they certainly can’t CC/tank like my necro and guard can (my other “mains” that I’m working on). So to all you ele vets: how do you survive if you happen to draw a lot of aggro? How do you survive if you get hit and are at very low health?

Lost PW, bought new accnt, found pw for old

So I played GW2 a lot when it came out I probably have something like 800 total hours on that account. Around the time living story came out I stopped playing. Came back for HoT but forgot my old pw! So I said whatever I had fun when I used to play, Anet you can have more money for a job well done and bought a new account. Put in a good 100 hrs in the new account.

Then I found the pw for my old account and was able to log in…. and most of the stuff I have is account bound and can’t be mailed to my new account… I certainly don’t have the time or desire to maintain two accounts, one account will naturally not get much use and be useless…

Any ideas on how I can at least use one account to feed the other one, or gain any sort of benefit whatsoever?
