Why Still No First Person View?

Yes, a camera height slider would indeed be nice as well.
By this point, however, I’ve given up on Arenanet listening to us.

I would guess its because it just wouldn’t work very well.

I can guarantee you that anyone slightly competitive in the PvP scene at ESO will use the third person view. The devs even admitted themselves that people probably will to get a better sense of awareness of their surroundings.

Over in GW2, you’ll barely be able to function in first person view. How would you dodge AoE circles for a start? It would be fine for one or two of them, but for stuff like Lupi, it would be a nightmare. How would stuff like rolling and Whirling Wrath even work on a first person view?

It would just be really awkward because the game wasn’t made to be played in first person view.

It’s not about doing PvP or PvE in First Person. No one in their right mind would do that. I’ve been an MMO player for over 10 years, and I would never use it like that. I still want this to be in the game. Why? Videos, screenshots, scenery, immersion. There is literally no reason for it not to be in the game, as it doesn’t give anyone an advantage. It’s a quality of life thing. The whole practical thing is irrelevant.
And it’s also not that they don’t know how to do it. It’s already in the Edge of the Mists Beta, under the Developer options.

They said it breaks immersion, in the past. Which is why they won’t add it

That is the exact opposite of what first person does.
It brings immersion.

The fact that this still isn’t in the game is beyond me.

In the Edge of the Mists beta, there is an option to go First Person View under ‘Developer’. This needs to get into the final game. Everything is there, it works in the beta. Please release it in the actual game for us. There is literally no reason for it not being in the game yet, and if there is, at least give us the reason (a good one). Don’t leave us in the dark, Arenanet. It’s becoming highly frustrating. We’re not some mindless grinders like many MMORPGs want us to be. Give the people some quality of life options.

YouTube Series: GW2 Iron Man Challenge

in Community Creations

Greetings!

I have recently made the silly decision (which I may just regret in the future) of starting the iron man challenge in Guild Wars 2. The Iron Man Challenge is explained in the video, but to give you a quick explanation:

- Perma death
- Only white items
- No crafting
etc.

But I figured, since I have a (still very small) YouTube channel, why not take people along for the ride? So I shall leave the link right here, episode 2 and beyond are linked in the video itself at the end through annotations, in case you’re interested in seeing more, and as I type this, episode 4 is uploading. Do note that these videos are not only targeted at GW2 players, so there are some explanations about the game itself here and there. (Probably got some facts wrong, too, since I’m mostly a roleplayer and don’t do much else.)
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoy making it!

Change Sylvari Armor Back Please

in Suggestions

Wubdor.5190

As said by many others: Don’t touch what people already bought. If they didn’t like it, they wouldn’t have bought it. They did, so why change it? This is actually what was said by Arenanet, basically. Don’t change when people have already bought it for what it looks like, because you will alienate people. You can’t make everyone happy, I understand that. But the people that bought it were already happy and the people who would’ve liked more glow most likely already bought it, too, regardless of the glow being present or not.

I, too, want this change to be reverted entirely. I want my secondary colour in my medium tier 3 back, in the inner back leaves, the lower arms and the heels of my boots. I want my character to look alive and not painted on, and most of all, if I’m forced to have my gear glow, I want it in my own glow. Yellow. Do I want to use yellow dye to make it glow yellow? No. Absolutely not. I’m really trying to remain civil here while making clear that I strongly disagree with this change and that my character is effectively ruined when wearing T3.

The gear was perfectly fine how it was, as said by so many other people and I agree with the suggestion of making a secondary set that glows, while the current sets will be reverted to what they were. Don’t make changes, don’t make solutions. Revert it. Undo every single change that was made, that is my request.

As much as I hate the change, at least the light armour keeps dye colours pretty much the same. As as medium user (I also have T3 light on 2 characters, by the way) I lose the way I used to look entirely. The red on my character’s arms and on the inner back leaves is just gone completely and there is no way to dye it in a way to make it come back in the same way. The same counts for the boots that had little red spots over the heels. I’ve had many people tell me that’s what they loved about my character and I feel robbed now. I’m a roleplayer, it’s how my character has looked like for a long time.

Like was said before: You can’t just change things after a year. If you want to add glow, then make a new set, because this is not what I bought and you will alienate a lot of people who bought the set for what it looked like, including me.

Not to mention that I paid real money to get these sets.
You said it before: “Some folks may have picked the hair style because they loved it as is. To change it for one may change it negatively for another.”

So why change it? You clearly upset every medium T3 user here.

Hi everyone,

Well it looks like my release notes weren’t added to explain this, so I’ll try to allay the confusion. Yes, some of the cultural armor has gone through some major updates. Folks have been vehemently requesting that the cultural armors glow, and they have been confused at the old glows that were there. This confusion was because a lot of the dye-to-skin blends on stems would glow the skin color, but not their chosen glow color.

In updating the armors, this comes with particular considerations. The armor glows are not on the same system as the body glow, so they will only glow the color of the area dyed. Armor glow also does not play well with alpha, so I have to avoid any alpha edges. The problem with this is most of those areas that look good glowing are also some of the areas that blend to skin. Armor glow also negates specularity.

So. What this means for you is, to add your glow, I reworked the dye channels to give you the largest choice and control possible over the glow. The areas that glow are now selectable for you. Some of the textures are also better balanced to give you more consistent results… you won’t have to guess what color you need to find to make the red feel red, for example. It will just work.

This currently affects Medium Tier 2 (legs will be re-addressed for better glow and dye alignment, sorry about that, it got past me) and Tier 3, Light Tier 1 (female only), and Light Tier 3. The other weights and tiers will be assessed for a similar pass to give glow or upgrade glow results when possible.

I’ve been hearing your cries to get more glow on the sylvari and am doing my best to give you more control over your character customization.

I will pay you real money to change it back for medium. I am dead serious. Look at the comments below.

The same for medium. This is just the worst thing that happened to me so far in this game. Please, Arenanet, this needs to be changed back/fixed. Preferably ASAP.
Attached is after and before. The one with red in it (bottom one) being the one from before the patch.

[NPC] Mist Warriors beckoning

After this September 17 update, still not fixed. Not sure why.

Edit: I do notice a decrease in the beckoning at this time of writing (now that I took some distance). When I was closer to him (really close to him) and went afk, I came back to some messages from him right after each other, but now that I’m at the asura gate, he’s not been bugging me for 10 minutes and counting.

The problem is that I can’t turn off emotes, since I’m mostly a roleplayer, so I need those emotes to show up. But yeah, this needs to be addressed.

I’m going to keep bumping this until I see that it’s no longer an issue. This is very annoying and it happens in more than one place, like I said in the OP. They reach you all the way on the other side of the Grove with their emotes.

As of the latest update, the Mist Warrior in the Grove (I’m not sure about the other cities) will now not stop beckoning. It happens every few seconds/minutes, probably because he is no longer culled. I am also not sure if it happens in other parts of the city, but in the path described below, it does. This is rather annoying when you’re talking to people or roleplaying.

Path:
- Go to the Grove
- Head over to the bottom level
- Stand in The House of Kahedins
- Observe (with emotes on)

[Area/Zone] Empty Nightmare Court Camps

in Suggestions

Wubdor.5190

Hello,

I am aware that there are many suggestions every day, and I am also aware that there are good ones, bad ones, and important ones.

This one isn’t as important for many, but for those who enjoy roleplaying, it could be a big thing.
What I’m about to suggest is not only what the topic title says specifically, but also for the other races’ cultural enemies, so to speak. (Svanir, Flame Legion, Inquest camps, etc.)

There are many people who enjoy roleplaying in this game, specifically on Piken Square (EU) and Tarnished Coast (US).
Some play the good guys, some play the bad guys. I play both. I have both a Sylvari Dreamer and Nightmare Courtier.
What I would absolutely love, is a camp that looks like a Nightmare camp, but is actually not filled to the brim with enemies that wish death and suffering upon you, so it may be used for Nightmare Court roleplaying.
I’ve looked at Briarthorn Den and Dreamdark Enclave, but one is inaccesible without a disguise, the other is a hostile area.
There are some smaller camps here and there, but even one hostile NPC is enough to break immersion and ruin RP when it has to be killed every minute or two. Instanced would also be unpreferable, as the point of roleplaying is to engage others, and being in an instance, it would be pretty difficult to do so.

What the dream (<- ironic, isn’t it?) would be, would be an empty version of Twilight Arbor, or have the option to make the NPCs friendly for RP purposes. I know this game isn’t very supported in roleplaying, but as of now, we don’t really have a place to go as people who like to roleplay as the bad guys.

Now, I’m not yelling at Arenanet to put this in because it is necessary, but I do wonder what other people’s stance on this is, and perhaps what Arenanet’s stance is, should they come across this thread and take the time to read it through.

TLDR? You’re on a gaming forum, you have the time to read it.

I fully agree. I want an option to turn this off. It’s no less than logical to give us this. Sorry if I come across as rude or demanding. This just greatly annoys me.
