Is there anyway you could roleplay around this? I’m not sure there’s enough attention on this matter to actually promote a change.
It’s not the end of the world, but still enough for me to not get the mastery line. It bothers me because it basically means I’ll always have it on every character forever when I’m in a city. There are roleplayers who have the buff and ignore it, but I know for a fact that they’d prefer not to have the visual effect.
You are asking for special treatment, though. There are all sorts of special effects in the game — why is this one more important to customize than any other?
Because this one is forced upon us without any way to get rid of it. They technically make our characters look different from what we envisioned. If it was a temporary effect like actual swiftness, fair enough, that’d be no problem. But this is a permanent effect you can’t get rid of whatsoever. I ask a toggle to turn off the buff entirely, not to remove the effect. Though if they simply remove the visual effect of this buff, I wouldn’t complain either.

The regular swiftness effect on your legs, yes. The golden swooshes.

Ever since HoT came out, I’ve avoided getting the Pact Commander mastery. Fortunately I’ve not done much in Central Tyria since then, so I’ve been able to stay away from that particular mastery line. But now I’m slowly getting closer to that track, and I really don’t want a permanent swiftness effect on my character whenever I’m in a city.
I’m not a fan of buffs being forced on my character, especially when that buff has a visual effect. It’d be neat if we could have it as a toggle instead, so we could choose to turn it off if we so desire.
But Wubdor, you ask, why not just not spend the mastery point when you max out the track?
Well, dear reader, I’m glad you asked. Because the experience bar will continuously try to remind you that you have maxed out your xp bar and there are points to be spent. I fear this will become even more annoying than the small effect of swiftness. Ideally, I wouldn’t have to worry about any of this. I’d happily max out that mastery line if I didn’t have to walk around with a permanent swiftness effect. As it stands, I’m either going to have to stop playing in Central Tyria, or settle for the effect. Neither of these are desireable to me.
Now, I know you might wonder why it bothers me so much. Part of it is simply because, like I said, I’m not a fan of effects forced onto my character. But the main reason remains that I’m a roleplayer, so I spend a lot of time in cities, and it just seems a bit silly to see the constant effect on my character’s legs, even when I’m RP walking. Not only does it look silly, my character’s looks are important to me. I specifically chose the way my character looks because that’s the character I want to roleplay. Without that effect.
I’m not asking for special treatment because my friends and I are roleplayers. I’m asking for the freedom to get rid of this buff on our characters, or at least the visual effect. I’m not a programmer, but this doesn’t seem like particularly complicated feature to implement. It would impact quite a lot of people, though.
I believe that’s not clipping, that’s a texture glitch.
I’ve checked on my two female sylvari, a necro and a guardian. Neither has that texture bleed. The Necro has a Carapace skirt, the Guardian is in all T3 cultural. The bleed I’m seeing in the above images looks like pieces of base armor getting picked up maybe?
There is clipping — my focus and hand go into the skirt, but I don’t have the bleed. Here’s my Guardian.
I’m getting textures from all kinds of gear, including stuff that my character can’t use.
I was surprised that it affects the Skritt Burglar, who otherwise has tons of immunities.
It also works on the 2nd to last boss in a CoE path (the husk with all the nature stuff, I forgot the name). I managed to get him out of the middle even though I’ve not seen any other ability that can do that. Correct me if I’m wrong, though. But it felt a little strange. I’m sure there are a lot of enemies that should be immune can still be affected by this.
It also led to some deaths because the boss was randomly displaced on a player. (I guess this is player responsibility, but when you have a trolly revenant in your group, or simply one who has no idea what he’s doing (like me!), it can become a very frustrating run.)
Loving the changes. Since it’s still in beta, I decided to leave some feedback for things that might be possible to change/tweak.
Firstly
When I turn my camera to my character’s face (with left mouse button) and then zoom into first person, it makes my character turn. I’d prefer it if this only happened with right mouse button, giving us the option to freely look around with left mouse button in first person, without our characters turning.
This also means that when I run in first person, it’d be nice to look around with left mouse button without my character immediately running into that direction.
Simply put:
- In First Person
- Use left mouse button to turn camera freely without affecting character
- Use right mouse button to turn character along with camera
Secondly
First person doesn’t seem to be entirely first person. At least, not in the sense of eye level. (When the camera is set to match Character Height.) The camera seems to float just a bit above the head, basically where the top of the character’s head ends. I noticed it the most on my norn, but when I ran into my girlfriend’s character, who is the exact same height, we both had to look down at each other, as if each was taller than the other.
Simply put:
- Go first person with camera matching character height
- Approach character of same height as your own
- Have to look down as if you’re taller (while you’re actually not)
Other than that, I’m absolutely loving this patch and these camera options. (Though is the green text in speech bubbles intended? I preferred black. It was much easier to read.)
I’ve been in contact with support through e-mail about this. Everything they told me to do (to see if it solved anything) has been unsuccessful so far. I knew it would, seeing as many of my friends and people in map chat chrashed at the same time, almost every time. It was this exact error message for me, too.
I’ll attach my own crash log as well.
I’ve kindly recorded and uploaded the Final Cutscene.
Obviously it contains Spoilers, so please do not watch if you haven’t completed the Story yet!
You’re two hours late. I posted it up above in the thread. :p
I was absolutely blown away by this episode (and the entire season so far). I am loving what is going on. Arenanet, you have outdone yourselves. I can do nothing but applaud you. Oh my goodness. Waiting 2 weeks for episode 3 is worse than waiting years for a sequel. I need to know what happens next!
I recorded it and upoaded it.

You’re welcome.
I’ve recently noticed that dyes are not saved to outfits when outfits are being switched. I’m not sure if it’s a bug, but decided to report it as such regardless.
Path:
- Equip an outfit, any will do
- Dye it in the colour scheme you want (this works fine, dyes are applied)
- Switch Outfit (i.e. Assassin’s to Chef’s)
- Optional: Dye the 2nd outfit (Chef’s) to what you like
- Switch back to the first outfit and observe the dyes have reset
- Switch to the 2nd outfit (Chef’s) once again and observe these dyes are not saved here either.
Intentional or a bug? It’s annoying either way.
99% of any player suggestions, not matter how great/beneficial
This is the only answer that matters, really. We can name all the things we’d love, all the things that we’ve suggested. None of it will be added, even when you get a decent following for the idea.
I’d even go as far to say that the things that were added after it was suggested, those things were already in the planning anyway, and it were obvious things to add (hairstyles, faces, etc.).hey hey hey! I Like the new hairstyles! It’s always all about the hair.
Not saying they were bad. Just saying that it weren’t our suggestions that caused them to make more. I’m pretty sure it was the plan all along.
I am 100% sure that is not the issue (though I still hope I’m wrong so it can be solved quickly). It’s playing the recorded loops (you can record loops with the drums, so you can play them later over and over) that aren’t working. The rest is fine. Premade loops, individual keynotes, other instruments, etc.
I have no opportunity to test your suggestion, however, since there is no one around to play the drums at the moment.

The presets (which is what my guildie called it) seem to be working. Something called “custom loops” (just quoting here) appear to be silent.
Edit: Another thing I noticed: Individual tones without playing them as a recorded loop (randomly bashing buttons) do work. It’s the recorded custom loops, as stated, that don’t work.

As of today, the Drums instrument is in the gemstore, but it doesn’t make any sound for me. I do not have the drums myself, I have only tried to listen to a guildmember play it, but it simply makes no sound.
The instrument volume is maxed, the same player also played the flute, which worked fine, but the drums make absolutely 0 sound. I tried restarting the game, which didn’t solve it.
Are there more reports of this issue?
So… you’re in an RP guild, have RPers on your friends list, party with RPers, and are on the unoffical RP server? Seems that if Anet’s algorithm is working you will end up with people who also RP.
And that’s what we’re hoping. But keep in mind that roleplaying is often a spontaneous thing with people you’ve yet to meet. That’s the fun aspect of roleplaying. Meeting new people and learning about their characters, etc. Those people aren’t in your friendslist, obviously, as you have yet to meet them. As you say, if their algorithm works, then it’s all fine. There is a web of roleplayers and I’m sure there’s at least one link between all of them, so they’re all connected through each other, basically, but we’ll have to wait and see (and hope) that it works in our favour.
I’m going to go ahead and voice my concerns too, for reasons already stated. I’ll be waiting for more information and to see it in action, but I do worry about the future of roleplaying in GW2.
What if I want to play with the people from my homeserver only, though? There are a lot of people I know, who aren’t on my friendslist, who aren’t in my guild, yet have the same interests as me. Will I just have to be lucky to be put in the same world as them? Will I have to deal with people from other servers I quite literally couldn’t care less about?
I’m not trying to be the partypooper here, and I’ll wait for more updates and until I’ve seen it in action, but this could very well mean the end of roleplaying in Guild Wars 2, and thus, the end for a lot of players.
I do hope servers will remain to work as they do now; people from your server getting absolute priority to be in the same world, and I also hope cities, at least, will stay out of this. We don’t need trolls in our RP.
Edit: And I know that roleplayers make up a tiny portion of the playerbase, hence my asking instead of me stating that we’re being beeped over. Again, waiting until we get more info. It’s just the the first impression scares me.

You’ll see more outfits coming out this summer and additions to the game more often usable by your characters.
and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.
You’re out of your mind if you think I will trust you as a company with my money once more. What else will change that I paid money for and can’t get a proper refund for? Gems I can get returned, but not the money I bought them with.
I really don’t want to come off as offensive, but I’m thoroughly disappointed in the entirety of Arenanet.
I have a question about Cultural armour. As we unlock skins for our account, does this mean that cultural armour can be used cross-species? Say a human ranger, can they use the sylvari or norn medium cultural armour? God, I hope not. I tried searching and couldn’t find this answer.
No. Species and armor weight class restriction will remain as they currently are on gear.
Thank you.

I read it carefully and I will not change what I said. I knew what I said.
Except they actually are changing individual pieces of town clothing into armor skins >.>
But not the pieces that are part of a set. The pieces that many, including me, mixed with single parts to create our own looks. That is my problem with it.
I read it carefully and I will not change what I said. I knew what I said.
Here is some more official information on the Wardrobe and Town Clothes (and Dyes) for those that may still have questions:

Hope that clears up some of the questions. =)
Thank you for this. It seems like that instead of changing town clothes into actual armour pieces like everybody wants, they’re opting for the refund way. Fair enough. I won’t be buying town clothes ever again.
How is it fair to have 3 stones turn into 1 charge, though? I don’t understand.
Because the charges are even useable on level 80 items. It is the same price as before basically, you can mainly choose here to waste your charges on low gear or wait for level 80 which most people will do.
Then I shall ask again. How is that fair?
Crystals are way harder to obtain than stones. Can you imagine the outcry when they would simply state: “Listen, guys, we’re gonna go ahead and remove the Transmutation Stones completely. You’ll now only have access to the Crystals, which you can buy from the gem store!”
That is exactly what is happening now. Now, I will admit that we don’t know yet how we get these charges. Maybe we’ll get one charge upon map completion instead of three stones. Then that is a serious nerf, and is just a “subtle” push for people to buy more charges on the gem store.
I’ve already voiced my opinion against the idea of changing town clothes into tonics in the other thread, so I will quote myself here.
“All or nothing” is something cannot comprehend. I simply cannot. It makes no sense. Why not just add them to the wardrobe as separate pieces? I do not wear full outfits. I mix them, just like most (if not all) other players.
I too will be requesting refunds if this isn’t fixed, and I really prefer not to. Not only do I want to support Arenanet with my purchases, but I wish to keep my looks. All of the changes are really nice, but this one not so much.
I think the confusion stems from this statement:
“Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.”
Note they say some it doesn’t say all of the ones no longer available. We need to clarification on that.
But I do interpret that to mean the single piece items will be converted to a tonic.
The following quote, however, indicates that single piece items will get an “appropriate complimentary piece”, thus becoming a tonic as well, despite not being part of a set.
The endless tonic will grant the appearance of the clothing it replaced. (along with some appropriate complimentary pieces so you’re not naked). They are new tonics, not existing ones.
Only one tonic can be used at one time.
There will be no town-clothes swap any more.. so you won’t be switching to naked.
If just people could wait for information to get released. 99% of the comments in this thread are pure speculation. All we know about town clothing is a sentence or two.
Right.
And like always, we ask.
Pretty useful and pointed questions.
And they say nothing to help clear it up.
Instead, they let 1000+ comment posts fester to the point where insults are thrown, and then they close the thread down.
Why? Why not tell us, precisely, everything we need to know, complete with honest answers (immersion doesn’t count) as to ‘why’ it was done?
Unless they don’t want us to really know why, because if they walked out on stage and gave us a Barilla, or Papa John complaining about laying people off because of health care, they’d lose some folks.
Why not just say nothing and continue to passive-aggressively sneak in little change after little change to slowly eat away at the darkness infecting the game they are trying to morally save and inject with appropriate (I love that word, glad he used it) values so all our children will have proper compasses and Jesus can ride off into the Rapture on his 6000 year old dinosaur?
There will be armor that follows. You will also notice a lack of new types of available armor. The last sets of armor were … interesting, in that respect.
Just wish they had the decency to treat us with a little respect, the same they always like to demand of us, and make some honest statements.
They actually were answering questions in this very thread, right up until it devolved into nasty posts insulting them over what is, almost entirely, pure speculation on the part of the players.

While nasty posts are never appropriate or constructive — the details are actually fairly clear. It isn’t pure speculation, and it has been elaborated on enough to see that this system is going to be a very big issue for town clothing.
Not to mention that I’ve seen a lot of constructive posts, not insulting whatsoever. Just people stating they don’t agree with these new design choices in a civilized manner.
How is it fair to have 3 stones turn into 1 charge, though? I don’t understand.
This is just the sylvari cultural dyeing system all over again. Please, stop changing what is already in the game. You will cause a you-know-what-storm among the players who paid money for this.

I like some of the points brought up here, they are certainly things to think about, but I do recall Arenanet stating that it is not possible for a sylvari to already be Nightmare upon emerging from the pod. (This totally messed up the history of my Nightmare sylvari in RP, by the way.) This basically means that the whole grand plan of the Nightmare Court is futile, and thus, if that is the case, I highly doubt, as some stated, that the Nightmare Court are the followers of (or corrupted by) Mordremoth. They seek to corrupt the tree so sylvari are born as nightmare from the start, yet Arenanet also states that it is not possible that sylvari can be born nightmare. Was that meant as ‘just at this point, until the Pale Tree falls to Nightmare’ or ‘ever’? Who knows…
I even recall reading that Arenanet also stated that the Nightmare Court oppose the dragons. Now, this was before Mordremoth was even known and confirmed, and as far as I know, all dragons also oppose one another, so that could make sense. But in the grand scheme, I don’t see the NC as dragon corrupted, nor the sylvari as dragonspawn. Husks, on the other hand… Have we ever heard where they come from?
That makes sense, actually. I didn’t know, since I never went to LA nor Vigil Keep. Well, I suppose that explains it, then!
(Although I still think that Overflow is triggered way too quickly. Other games often have more people in one zone without problems.)
And also, the last time Sylvari were born, that was more than 10.000 years ago. The humans only existed for 2000-3000 years on Tyria by now. They are pretty new to the world. They were brought by the human gods somewhere between the writing of the Tome of Rubicon and 768 BE. Basically, the only existent writing, that is even close to being that old is the Tome of Rubicon by the Great Dwarf. Around 2000-6000 years ago (date unknown). So basically, where should they have been written down? That is a really long time ago.
That is an interesting point, I didn’t know this. What I wonder then is, if the humans are so young, what did the sylvari look like before, if they ever existed before? What were they based on? Is it a simple law of nature that they came to look like humans? (Look at norn, who are shaped the same as well.)
What about other dragons’ minions? Who/what served as their minions? Did everything work different, or did they not use minions at all? Was there any information released about any of this?
Piken Square never overflows and never has. Suddenly it does now, and, like I said, a simple relog fixes it. The amount of people is also not that great, even after I relog and get back in after an overflow.
Not saying that’s impossible now, it’s just striking me as something that isn’t supposed to happen. The last 1.5 year, I’ve seen many more people in DR on occasion than I’ve seen it peak now, and even then there was no overflow. The only time I’ve seen overflow was with the Crown Pavilion release, and even then it wasn’t as bad as one might expect.
(edited by Wubdor.5190)
Recently on the Piken Square (EU) server, there have been random overflows in Divinity’s Reach. Now, at first I thought this was because there was some kind of event happening, but a simple relog (i.e. logging to character selection and back into the game) solves it.
Piken Square is a roleplay heavy server, particularly in Divinity’s Reach, but I’ve been playing since release, and I’ve seen it much busier than it is now, and never have I seen overflow here.
I think it’s pretty safe to assume that this happens due to a bug, and the fact that I can relog to get back into the ‘normal’ Divinity’s Reach just fine proves that.
What’s going on? It’s rather quite annoying that I have to relog in order to get to the place I want to play. I’ve noticed others mentioning this problem, too.
PS. I’m not sure if this happens on other servers.
I’d be cool with that hair style…. and that armor too plz!
This!
I love both the hairstyle and the armour.
^ Yes, I was thinking that, too.
Try scrolling to the right as far as you can.
That’s odd. It is there for me. Could it be that you are already using the face and doesn’t show up?
It’s all the way on the right. You need to scroll to see it.
Race: Norn

Description:
When wearing the medium Svanir chestguard from Honor of the Waves, on the right arm pit a piece of ‘skin’ disappears, making it transparant. When unequipping the chestpiece, the missing piece returns to the body.

Try dying it completely. All boxes. If that works, from then on you can dye it how you want. I had this issue when I dyed it with another character, and this is to prevent you from dying it on multiple characters, so you can’t share your dyes between your characters.
Not sure where you got that idea. The issue isn’t solved at all.
It’s not an option. Characters that aren’t loaded in properly is a bug, and the fact that I have to change an option to fix it proves it’s a bug.
On Piken Square, the unofficial RP server, there are several for roleplaying purposes.
Not sure about Tanished Coast, the American unofficial RP server.
Vozhek isn’t half as kittenome (edit: Really? The forum changes the words ‘bad’ and ‘as’ after each other? You get the point. Not as bad.) other names I’m seeing. (I mean the pun-names by this. I’m a lore kind of guy and every sylvari name that wouldn’t fit in Tyria makes me cringe.)
I’ll give this a 6.5/10 for not using a last name and a non-pun name, and something that fits a necromancer rather well, too.
My sylvari’s name is “Allyssae”.
(edited by Wubdor.5190)
First of all…
I tried searching on the forum, and, to my surprise, I found nothing about this issue.
.. search on forum is broken, so I’m not surprised you haven’t found any other thread about this issue :P
It looks even sillier on the NPCs that are supposed to be sitting or lying down, and just stand there, cracking their neck, looking around, rubbing their hands.
Yes, it was first noted at Wayfarer Foothills and other Norn areas, NPCs supposed to be lying (like the Passed Out Warriors at Wayfarer) just stand still on place. I also have noted it with the new Living Story at the refugee camps at Gendarran, NPCs that are wounded and then supposed to be lying down are standing still, stretching out, rubbing hands, etc.
There is a thread about that Passed Out Warriors issue but, as I said above, I can’t find it now :P
It’s rather quite silly. It’s not game breaking, but it does make things simply look stupid. Instead of thinking “I’m helping these people”, the only thought that’s now present is “Oh, that looks stupid. The game doesn’t function how it’s supposed to. I wonder why they haven’t fixed it.”
So it’s no longer helping NPCs, but it’s pressing F until you get your experience. Immersion breaking.
So, for months now, since the culling update in pve, characters that are doing emotes and are then loaded in, do not do these emotes. An example:
I load in to a specific area, say Wolf Lodge in Hoelbrak. I see several sitting emotes from players in the chat. In fact, let’s make that /sit, /kneel and /dance. 3 people doing 3 different emotes.
Yet, when I walk over and look at them, they simply stand there, doing nothing but standing idle. This also counts for NPCs.
I tried searching on the forum, and, to my surprise, I found nothing about this issue. This has been going on for months, and it’s a big annoyance for those who like to roleplay and either have to put up with the bug, or ask everybody to re-do their emote so it actually loads in properly.
It looks even sillier on the NPCs that are supposed to be sitting or lying down, and just stand there, cracking their neck, looking around, rubbing their hands.
Is there a fix coming for this? It’s rather immersion breaking.
