500 watt output power is enough. It’s a reliable brand so you should be able to take that value for true. It’s a really cheap model though, I notice the warranty is only 2 years, while better ones come often with 3 – 5 years warranty. Also it seems to have a very low efficiency. Meaning you’ll be drawing a lot more power from the net. I generally would recommend getting something more expensive. If the cost is going to be a problem I’d save that on the ram, unless you actually maybe have a good reason to need that much like running multiple virtual machines or video editing.

As for a case, this should do: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-Three-Hundred-Midi-Case/dp/B0017Q8IAA/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1346929296&sr=1-1-spell

People seem to overlook the performance gains from using SSDs. Though arguably you won’t see any gains from playing in GW you’ll certainly see a gain when loading apps up and booting your machine. Check out some YT videos of SSD comparisons.

If it’s possible in the budget then yes it could be a nice upgrade. However it isn’t. Also the noticeable performance gain is much lower on a fast system, which this will be. I find ssd’s more interesting for laptops, don’t bother for the desktop unless you have the money.

edit: @Thechin, you mentioned overclocking. Consider an aftermarket cpu-cooler if you’re going to do that.

Necromancer needs your help

If you want to kill a single mob as fast as possible you need burst damage, which the necromancer has very little off. Have you tried a staff yet bursting those marks on your target and then maybe switching to a dagger? (I think dagger main does more than axe, not sure though)

Slow Down in Combat

If you’re in the middle of a battle, taking damage, etc, I understand the slow down, but it happens even when you’re just running past a mob that you happen to agro, and nothing hits you. It’s kind of annoying.

Eh no? I’ve been running happily past mobs, all you’ve got to do is evade their attacks. If you got slowed “something” hit you. If you didn’t notice that, it was either not clear enough or maybe there’s some kind of bug somewhere somehow.

I dont think anyone want to fight when you are alone and 30 invader at your back. In Pve I dont care If I slow down, because there are only mobs. However in WvW…

Yep, so you’ve got to watch out not getting into their range in the first place, or just make sure you’re not alone. It only makes sense to me that if they’re given the opportunity to engage on you, you shouldn’t be able to run off easily.

I think it’s exactly to prevent that… you running away from combat like nothing is going on. Well guess what, there’s combat going on and if you want to run away you’ll have to put some effort into that.

Necromancer Condition Build Help

I’m playing a condition build myself, though mostly have been playing PvE so far. Staff seems pretty much a must in WvW for sieging so you might want to try and check for some traits that will make your staff better. Lich does give stability, if you were effected by anything that stability should block it’s probably a bug. Lich is awesome for 1vs1 fights. I’ve won every 1vs1 fight I ran into thanks to it. But plague is good too, give them all blind, yes please? It’s damage is poor though so you need to be with a team when you use it. It should also give stability.
As for weapons you might want to take a look at dagger as off hand weapon next to your scepter. Swiftness is nice and all, but I find that the dagger does so much more.
I haven’t really tried wells yet myself, but I like the idea of continuing the condition focus in my utilities with Consume Conditions and the Corruption skills. Note this also works well together with the dagger #4 skill.

edit:

I think you should use Cond Damg and Toughness. Toughness helps you in Death shroud as well. I dont think vitality affects your Death Shroud live bar (not 100% sure).

It’s based on your hp so yes Vitality will effect it.

No and I don’t see why you’d want to disable a good security measure. If it bugs you leave your modem online? Don’t see why you’d not be able to do that…. they’re made to be on 24/7.

melee class

Any profession can do that….. you just have to build your character towards that goal. But don’t assume that survivability means you can stand in monsters faces and be fine, because you wont. Not with any character. Naturally the guardian and warrior have a slightly higher base defense coming from their heavy armor.

If you’re unsure about the professions, the warrior is most likely the easiest to get started with for being melee.

(dont know when, but you can find it if the date is available) If you’d be willing to go a bit higher you could go for the hd7950 or the gtx 660ti both are just under 300 euro atm.

The HD 7950 is under the 300euro range? 7950 or 7870?

I’ll admit average prices are higher, around 320, but the cheapest I can find is 282 euro for the 7950. 7870 is under 230 in the cheaper shops. I live in the Netherlands for the record.

The only reason areanet will not advise this is for performance reasons. There’s no risk trying this whatsoever. Given the fact some people do notice a difference there are some things in the rendering path that will be changed depending on the OS the game runs on, and in some cases that might lead to a performance increase.

GW2 Is A Game Of Roles

There’s no tank at most characters who are a bit tougher than others. There’s no healers, because there’s no good reliable way to heal others big time. There’s conditions and buffs and there’s burst damage and sustained damage. Those are the things you will want to try and balance when playing together in a team. And not every profession will be able to do the same things. A friend of mine plays a guardian. He has this very nice mechanic where he can give the team aegis blocking deadly attacks. No way I can do that playing my necromancer. However I can support my team in other ways for example drawing conditions to myself and then spreading those among foes.

I would stick with Nvidia cards as they offer more hardware support, in terms of Physx and CUDA. AMD/ATI cards have more stream processing to help with the fact they don’t have hardware Physx or CUDA, so more work for your CPU.

Sad that you put this nonsense next to your otherwise good advise. There are alternatives to physx and cuda that do exactly the same but are not limited to nvidia cards. AMD had their own alternative called havoc. But either way most developers will be using standardized technologies, namely opencl and directcompute, that work on both. Thing is though, they don’t work very well yet for games. Same goes for cuda and physx. Physx only ever worked good with a second dedicated physx card and then there have only been a handful of games that actually used physx to an extent that it would actually be worth having it.

Also the reason that amd cards have more stream processors is simply because they use a different architecture than nvidia’s cards. Simply put you can’t compare them 1 on 1 like that. You can only compare them

In short there’s no real reason to choose one over the other besides price/performance or personal preference. Note that price/performance can easily differ from game to game so it could be worth to look at benchmarks of games that are relevant to you before deciding.

800 pounds… that’s about 1000 euro.

i7 3770k – 330 euro
motherboard – 100 euro
16 gig ram – 75 euro
gtx 670 – 375 – 400 euro
hard drive – 60 euro (500gb)
power supply – 100 euro
case – 50 euro
good monitor – 200 euro (forget about the ips panel comment, it’s way off your budget)

This is assuming you don’t need a windows license, a dvd drive (20 euro), mouse and keyboard.

So that’s clearly out of your budget.
Things we can easily save on is the cpu and memory. You don’t need an i7 for gaming. Ok admittedly gw2 actually can make use of it, but it’s not needed and we save an easy 100 bucks if you go for an i5 3570k instead. Also 16gb is just overkill, 4gb should be enough but you should go with 8 to be a bit future proof and it’s already somewhat useful now. That’s another 30 bucks less. No need to bother trying to find “fast memory” because it won’t do a thing to your performance. Just pick a good reliable brand like corsair or crucial. You could find a good monitor with a bit of searching for probably 175 euro, maybe a tad more. The last and biggest factor in the cost is our video card. Not counting the videocard we’re now down to about 750 euro. So that leaves you with about 250 euro to buy a videocard from.

The only card in that price range is currently the amd radeon hd7870. nvidia will be releasing the gtx 660 in that price range. (dont know when, but you can find it if the date is available) If you’d be willing to go a bit higher you could go for the hd7950 or the gtx 660ti both are just under 300 euro atm.

Real Time or Turn Based Combat?

in Players Helping Players

Zalastra.6290

I know Guild Wars (1) had the twitch based dodge option. I have been trying to do this in Guild Wars2, but I am having less luck. It might be due to the new energy resource where you can dodge these attacks.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dodge

Has anyone been able to do the Guild Wars (1) dodging?

You don’t have a 360 degrees auto lock. So yes if you’ll move away from their facing distance enough you should be able to “dodge” how far this precisely is I have no idea. Other than that you dodge aoe attacks because you can see them coming. Also you can use cover to make attacks get blocked.

Real Time or Turn Based Combat?

in Players Helping Players

Zalastra.6290

That’s not what turn based combat is. But that’s beside your question, you can actively dodge, but you do need to keep in mind this is an online game. That means there’s latency involved. That means that what you see on your screen is not exactly what’s taking place on the server. Even with a low latency (ping) you can sometimes notice the difference if you pay attention to this very carefully. Suffice to say, with higher latencies the issue can become much more noticeable.

At the very least they should implement the option to move the elements around like in gw1. It’s one of the things they should be doing in in order for multiple-monitor support.

i7 3770k Max settings?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Zalastra.6290

Zalastra.6290

Imho anything above 30 fps seems good in this game. The game feels smooth and responsive with at least 30 fps. That is of course if there’s no lag.

I have an i5 3570k at stock speed and an AMD HD 7970 playing at full hd resolution. I’ve seen spikes up to 90 fps and spikes down to about 40. Generally it hovers in-between 50 and 65. In world vs world in big battles it’s usually around 30 fps. All at max settings. I’ve tried 5760×1080 resolution a short while in PvE, performance wise it was just fine. Maybe I’d put a few settings just a tad lower, but really no big problem, some camera problems prevent me from playing at that resolution though.

Oh I have v-sync off, enabling it seems to lead to a less smooth experience when there are frame rate drops. (and well I prefer it off anyway)

Maybe the problem lies with certain processes running in the background? In the worst case some kind of virus. I’m running on Win 8 (rtm) and have actually a ton of programs open though. Firefox, Chrome, Skype, Steam, VLC, Visual Studio and Task Manager and Catalyst now to monitor the use of my cpu and gpu. Respectively around 60-70% and 55%

Necro elite skill under water

I find plague pretty underwhelming from a solo play perspective. I can see though how it could be extremely strong in team play. 30 seconds of blinded foes? It’s really unfortunate that plague is the only underwater elite for the necro.
