The boss chests drop the bauble bubbles (or weapon skins) once per day per character. So to get them again, either try a different character, or wait for the next day (or both :P)
You’re gonna need gods for that. and they’ve abandoned you. ;P
A Human has become a God before! We can do it again, even without the Gods’ help!
If anyone is interested, the totals so far:
948 chests reported open
17 skins reported found
~= 1.79% drop rate estimate
So, Thieves are upset about Daggers and Pistols (theoretically), Engineers are upset about Rifles and Pistols…
Am I the only warrior out there who’s wielding dual axes, and thus is saddened by the lack of Axe skins?
There are no required max-length jumps in normal mode. I’m assuming the max length jump after the second-to-last checkpoint you’re talking about in world 1-1 is the baubles over the pit. This can be bypassed by jumping to the platform to the right instead. This is the only max length jump in all of SAB, as a max length jump is a dodge-roll jump which will get you slightly farther than a normal one (I’m expecting to see these more in hard mode)
[snip]
Wait, are you implying that the jump in world 1-1 for the baubles over the pit has to be made using a dodge-roll jump? If so, let me inform you that you are incorrect.
I’ve made that jump normally (in fact I’ve made all jumps in the all the zones normally)
You can run off the very edge, even a little bit beyond the edge. Even if it looks like you’re falling for a fraction of a second (by this time your thumb should be on its way down on the space key), you can still jump normally and make that jump. Takes some practice, but I suspect its much easier than that the dodge-roll jumps.
HellOfGods, did you make the exact same post into its own thread? Please see replies there…
I didn’t know what I was missing, so i redid everything.
Just after I beat the boss of zone 2 and right before being teleported out, I saw I got the achievement. Odd. No idea why.
If you can’t narrow it down, just go though, use all the clouds, do all the things that the guide hands point to (such as jumping on the shroom).
Also, there’s been a few threads about this already I think, you could search through them.
7/10 for Lyxr – interesting name, but somewhat iffy on pronunciation, and I don’t think it’s very ‘human’
8/10 for Jack Winter – good solid name that doesn’t play a pun on its profession.
Susan Kalvin – my female warrior
Zenon Seth (fancy that huh?) for my male Ranger
ok one more question , if i will do daily run for BB in zone 1 and i wont get skin , can i just farm zone 1 boss to try to get the skin?
Not with the same character. The boss chests are limited to once per day per character. You can, however, use other characters to run Zone 1 boss again.
Good luck!
Never liked the Charr and if I get the chance to work with the ghosts, I will, to free Ascalon and rebuild The Wall!
Rebuild The Wall? No, we need to kill all Charr so that we may never need a wall Again!
Return Ascalon to it’s former pre-searing glory!
[snip]
Only the very end one (frog one/zone 3) or any of the zone ‘boss’ chest(s)?I’ve gotten no skins, and I’ve done zone1 at least 10 times (most on the same character), zone 2 maybe 5 times, and haven’t completed zone 3 yet.
I know someone got a drop from Zone 1’s boss chest, so it’s definitely from any of the boss chests. Most of us are just not that lucky.
You only skim the surface. Forget the graphics and sound effects for a moment.
SAB has more exploration and jumping puzzles, as well as hidden areas, concentrated per zone than all other places I’ve seen.
It has combat that makes everyone equal, and makes you dependent entirely on your skills.
Even if it wasn’t in old-school graphics and sounds, it would still be a fun place for those reasons. And those reasons are not something entirely related to “super mario fans” or “NintArenaNetTendo” (try saying that five times fast..)
[snip]
Its always the same characters/people that have the luck… :/
Maybe ANet uses a personalized random number generator, seeded with a hash (or something similar) of your account user name. Or maybe the seed for the function is what those last 4 numbers are REALLY for =)
I have actually killed the Ice Elemental once, and failed the Dredge suit once.
I can say only this – it’s frustrating, but not at the game, but at my team, as well as myself, for not being able to organize properly.
The Ice elemental fight was anything but boring to me – we were on the edge of being wiped most of the time due to his really painful attacks. But at the end, it was great to see him die! mwahahaha…
Anyway, doesn’t mean you’re wrong, but you obviously enjoy a different style of gaming, that’s all.
The thing is, if the SAB is kept around as it is now (separate instance), you won’t be affected. You’re not going to be forced to change the way you play the rest of the game, and those who like that gameplay/exploration can do so freely as well. Win/win if I ever saw one.
Why do you thinkittenep posting that I want SAB to be kept around, and expanded more (its actually the only reason I even started posting on the forums at all – I had previously only read but not posted anywhere on these forums)
edit: apparently typing “think” followed by “I” and “keep” after each other gets filtered… hmm.. thinkittenep
(edited by ZenonSeth.5739)
You’re right in some way – having more of this wouldn’t be a bad idea.
I think it also depends on profession – warriors are very direct, and less about dodging. I played a thief to about lvl 30, and dodging is almost completely necessary to survive – in case you didn’t know, Thief along with Elementalist, have the lowest natural HP in game, I think (guess) around 12,000 at 80.
The game becomes far more challenging, and I’m still struggling with my thief. Even with my engineer I have to dodge a fair amount, given that engineers are semi-squishy.
Going with your line of thinking – the ’don’t get hit’ mentality in SAB is also enforced by the lack of health regeneration. Otherwise it would seem somewhat cheap, and you could just run through mobs until you lose aggro, and re-heal to full (health potions are finite, therefore not equivalent to regen). Of course, if you’re good, you can run through anyway, and avoid hits, but if you do get hit you risk your future inevitable encounters with the boss for example.
See, I realize that you like this mechanic, and actually so do I – but I don’t think it works too well with most gamers. My feeling is that most gamers are looking for a quick way to jump in, do some fight and not worry about consequences or whether you were fully healed before hand, or prepared.
It’s the sort of mentality that dates back to games like CS, which has isolated fights that have no lasting consequences from one fight to the next. In older games you almost always had to invest more long stretches of time to beat certain areas or bosses.
That’s why I think this sort of thing is best kept in an isolated dungeon form. More strict rules on damage and healing in the open world would probably just frustrate most players who are looking to jump from fight to fight with little downtime. (it’s also why the waypoints exist I think)
Anyway, long rant, point being, I don’t think SAB combat can be pulled off outside of dungeon like areas without becoming frustrating for most people (though some will love it). Unless of course that’s the point of the entire game, which is not what GW2 is.
I don’t like fractals, and I avoid any sort of PvP. From what I heard, WvW is pretty good though. And I can testify that PvE is continuously expanding – the SAB is one of those expansions, along with the fun stuff on the Southsun Cove.
And I would like ANet to continue working and expanding the SAB.
So, it looks like its your opinion vs mine.
Now what?
Have you guys ever done a run of Crucible of Eternity?
I decided to do a random one with a guildie and some other random folks. Path 2 (i think – the one with the teleporter) has you fighting Subject Alpha – who cannot be tanked. Sitting there just doing dmg won’t work at all. Even staying at range doing damage won’t work.
He casts giant AoE attacks, from what it seems like 3-4 per person. Basically in most cases, you cannot escape out of the red circles. In order to defeat him you have to learn the timing of the attacks, and dodge just when the massive AoE damage occurs. I thought this was the secret to the frog boss – since you can actually dodge through the tongue of the frog boss, if you get the timing right.
That path also has a plant boss who cannot be killed directly, you must grab an environmental weapon and target the incoming bomb-golems (who will usually go after you), thereby reprogramming them to strike him. Thing is, you can’t reprogram them if they get aggroed by any player, so amidst all the chaos of being shot at, you have to coordinate your team to not aggro at least some of them so you can re-program them to kill the plant.
Anyway, what I’m saying is, these types of bosses do exist.
The thing is, these bosses are quite challenging and until you figure out the pattern you’re likely to get a lot of people ragequitting on you. It works fine in SAB because of the great scaling, but not so well in dungeons.
Sure you can figure out an approximate drop rate, given that the forum goers here can be considered a more or less random and unbiased sample.
We take the total number of skins obtained by people reported here, and divide it by the total number of chest opens reported here. Assuming that we’re a somewhat random sample, this would give at least a fair approximation to drop rate
Right now approximate numbers are:
462 chests opened, 10 skin drops – that’s about 2% drop rate of skins. That doesn’t point which, if any, skins drop more/less often, since not everyone reports what skin they obtained (or their guildmate obtained)
17 runs, ~50 chests (I may have skipped zone 3 at least once)
no skins
[snip]
The skins drop at a decent rate inside the actual instance as well. I get one at a rate of 1 of 5 runs. So they aren’t hard to get. No worries man.
You must be lucky, I’ve ran World 1 at least ten times, and have obtained no skins. I’m sitting at something like 20 bauble bubbles after all the exchanges (mind you I was only running single character)
1UP
Here’s my suggestion to keep this permanent:
1) Remove random chests from the rest of Tyria
2) Keep SAB like a permanent exploration-focused dungeon
3) Continue work on rest of Tyria content, only maintaining SAB as you would any other area
That way the people who don’t like it are not forced to interact with the content, and people who have an active interest in exploration and jumping puzzles (points at self) are free to do so at a pace of their own without having to rush doing this in a month, just like the rest of the content GW2 has to offer.
Pretty please?
I don’t really want to jump in the middle of this, but isn’t this exactly like the multiple character farming through dungeon runs?
I mean people obviously do that (and on days when I have time, I’ve done some runs with a couple of toons myself), so it’s not an exploit or anything. The only problem I see is that the SAB has no character level limit, which apparently allows some people to keep running by creating new characters all the time. Even a ridiculously low character level limit, say, 10, would fix the problem.
I personally don’t like it. That said, since a lot of people do like it, why not keep it? As long as the chests in the world are removed, it’s a completely seperate thing and it wouldn’t hurt the game to make it stay.
I already posted to say I want this permanent. Just wanted to say that this is a good idea. Remove the chests from world, and making it permanent would essentially be like introducing a new dungeon – a more exploration oriented dungeon – which I think is one thing this game could use more of.
I agree, 30 days is plenty. As fun as it is the novelty would be lost if it were permanently in the game.
I honestly want to know why you would apply this logic only to the SAB dungeon-like world, and not to, say, other dungeons (that also provide unique and cool skins), or jumping puzzles (that also provide unique and fun challenges).
This game needs fun content and SAB is fun content, so….
You are missing the point
I love eating chocolate cake on my birthday, that doesnt mean that I NEED chocolate cake every single day after it, even if I really wanted to. It does more harm than good.
You are the kid wanting to eat chocolate cake every day.
Yes, but chocolate cake is available to you, should you choose to eat some, every day of the year. It’s personal preference how often you want to eat chocolate cake, it’s not a one time (or once a year) restriction by the chocolate cake providers.
Edit: To expand on that: This being limited time will make me rush through this much faster out of worry that I won’t be able to do it anymore. Basically if you only knew you could have chocolate cake once in your life, you’d try to eat as much of it as you can before you are no longer allowed to eat any.
Dropping the metaphor, the Super Adventure Box being available at all times will let people tackle it at their own pace, finding all the secrets, instead of trying to rush the box to get some skins or achievements before they no longer can.

When you use the slingshot or the bomb, it changes your skillbar temporarily, making the #2 skill be the slingshot/bomb usage (may be like this with Moto’s breath too, haven’t tested).
The 5th skill is suppose to be the ‘unequip’ your slingshot/bomb skill, as you have found out.
There is one place you can’t avoid getting stuck without Infantile Mode – that first checkpoint where they’re right at the edge of the cliff and too tall to burn.
You actually can avoid getting stuck. Stand on the ground below the edge, then jump up and use your candle/torch. With the right timing of the skill usage, you will burn the plants without ever touching them – I did this myself yesterday. (alternatively, you can jump from the pillar such that you don’t land on the edge, but go down right by it, and again with proper skill timing burn them)
To be honest, the fact that you can do this on several characters might be the only thing that will get me more than one skin. My days can be roughly divided in days I cannot game at all, and days I can game a lot. So the account wide systems like the dailies put me at a disadvantage in comparison to those who can play a little every day, even if the total amount of hours we put in is the same. However I am fine with this, since for Laurels I can still get there, it will just be slower.
For this event however, I only have one month, and I would have been annoyed that I would have been artificially locked out of the rewards with the daily system. Not that I would not have played in the box, as I think it’s awesome enough to be it’s own reward, but there are a few skins I’d like anyhow. For the record, I don’t create and delete characters for this purpose, just use the ones I have.
Having just found out that the bauble bubbles are not account-wide limited rewards, I’d say that I will be replaying this multiple times with all my characters.
Heck, I’ve already been replaying it multiple times with one character just cause its so fun! And I agree that this seems like the only way I can earn my skin (for I do not have 40+ gold to spend on TP, nor am I lucky enough to find a skin drop)
My first post on these forums, and I wholeheartedly agree!
Yes, please ANet, make this a permanent thing!
I don’t have that much time to spend playing this amazing game, and I fear it will be over before I’ve had a chance to go through it all! (and find all the fun secrets!)
Basically, at any of the settings of the shadows above “Low” what happens is that the surrounding area that’s suppose to use dynamic shadow mapping (guessing here), appears completely without shadows.
Here’s a video that illustrates the problem on Ultra shadows:
