FOTM only way to get Ascended

I have no clue what you’re even trying to say with this post. You just seem like another angry person.

People tend to get that way when a company pointless murders a game they like simply because their monetization department deemed it a good idea. :-P

@OP: Anet already stressed that they wanted to fix everyone getting funneled into FotM… its just taking a REALLY long time. It took them 2 months just to get out one other method of getting ascended gear, so it will probably take a full year to get us back to the point that this game was at prior to the Nov 15th release.

Unfortunately, the Nov 15th patch was similar to SWG’s NGE patch (also released on Nov 15th), both in how it was accepted by the userbase and how it affected the game. The repairs to the damage Anet did with it will take a LONG time. Give it about 6-8 more months and the game will be back to an acceptable place. Not quite what it was before, but better than it is now.

I know where you’re coming from and what Anet was stressing to us. It just seems they really kitten how they did it considering it’s only 2 pieces of gear. Again, not angry, just disappointed.

. It’s the first (that I’ve seen) instance in this game to where we have vertical progression. Now before the fanboi’s start their flaming, look at how this is set up. Prior to FOTM, there were many different ways you could gear out your character. You could farm karma, farm dungeons, WvW, or craft your gear.

And they will release different ways to get ascendeds. Look at the laurel system – 50 dailies, 2 monthlies and enjoy your rings gotten without fractals.

If you don’t think gear plays a difference in this game, please, go WvW or dungeon farm in Arah with greens/rares compared with Exotic/Acended and tell us all that there’s absolutely no difference.

Does it play no difference? No. But there’s very little difference really. I’ve gotten kills in WvW with a level 40, I’ve seen videos of people running fractals in blues, running dungeons in whites, just for a laugh, I know people not bothering to go for Exotic and I know people that won’t bother going for ascended either.

I have no clue what you’re even trying to say with this post. You just seem like another angry person.

Actually, wh te Laurel system, it’s only Amulets, not rings, which makes FOTM the only way to get rings still.

As for WvW, yes, you can get kills at under 80. Hell, I’ve done it plenty on my Ranger and Guard, but to say that gear doesn’t give an advantage in HP, Power, Crit, Def, etc, you’re pretty much kidding yourself.

I’m not angry at all, just a bit disappointed with how they implemented Acended gear and FOTM. I guess people calling it the “WoW Conversion” patch weren’t far off on this.

It seems that ever since FOTM and Acended gear was released, FOTM has turned into GW2’s version of a raid. It all depended on the build and stats that you wanted. It opened up many different aspects of the game. If you wanted to do events, you could find a lot doing them. If you wanted to farm dungeons, there were always groups to be had. If you wanted to craft, you could go solo farm or do whatever and chances are you’d get the drops you needed.

Now, when they released FOTM and South Sun Cove, I think Anet completed missed out on an opportunity to turn South Sun Cove into another World Event hub, other than the Karka shell/rich Ori node farm (the later being nerfed last patch). By only having the rings drop in FOTM, they’ve pretty much killed off Orr, made SSC a useless lvl 80 zone and made FOTM the main dungeon/event that people are doing. If they would’ve made Karma another route to buy these items (60k a pop maybe.?.?.?), South Sun Cove wouldn’t be the dead/waste of space like it seems now, but a more lively World Event zone.

Again, there’s 2 things that play into here. 1. People, on average, will always gravitate towards the higher rewards in games. It’s no different here. Just sit in LA and watch the FOTM spam. 2. If you don’t think gear plays a difference in this game, please, go WvW or dungeon farm in Arah with greens/rares compared with Exotic/Acended and tell us all that there’s absolutely no difference.

All this doesn’t even touch on the RNG/crap drop rate on things, but thats for a whole different post….

Shortcomings of the Necromancer

I only started my necro and got him up to lvl 40, only ran PvE so far, and run a condition spec. While I haven’t ran D/D or Axe much, I do run S/D and staff quite a bit. I have 4 other char’s (2 80’s and 2 over 70), so this is just going to be an initial observation of the class so far…imo PvE wise.

S/D- So far for me, this has been a great combo. Am able to kite 4-6+ mobs at least 5 lvl’s higher than me and kill them all without working up much of a sweat. Killing Vet’s at my lvl or 1-2 higher is also rather easy as well. Between S2 and D5, Staff 2-4, and S1 spam, I’m pretty much able to kite and kill without taking much damage. Bleed stacking and dmg at this lvl is rather amazing imo and makes for fast killing of just about anything.

Staff- While Staff 2-4 seem alright (radius seems a bit small), the fear on staff 5 seems to be a bit weak and Staff 1 feels REALLY weak. It doesn’t hit much harder than Sceptor 1, it’s travel time is slow, and unlike Sceptor 1 it doesn’t stack a bleed. Speeding up the projectile travel and either upping the dmg or adding a bleed stack to it would make it more useful than it is now.

Minions- I haven’t seen a Pet AI this bad in a LONG time. Between their ADD and lack of attacking half the time, I completely avoid using them all, minus the Flesh Golem. The only reason i use this one is that it can act like a tank when I need it, that is if it actually attacks…

Lich Form- I only really use this as an “OH ****” run away ability as it acts as a 2nd health bar. The 4 abilities seem rather lackluster and hastily thrown together.

Combo Fields/Finishers- We seem to have a decent amount of Combo Fields, but the lack of Finisher’s seems a bit off. Would like to see them add a bit more in the way of Finishers to our weapons.

Group support- Haven’t had much time to really get into this, but Condi removal seems to be our biggest function. I want to get more into this later, and I run support quite a bit on my Guard when needed.

While I think the Necro is a great bleed class, I think we’re somewhat hampered in group play when there’s more than 2 other condi classes. Anymore than this, it seems that the Stack/Duration limits, this can really hamper our overall dmg output. The lack of dmg that Staff 1 puts out on top of our bleh Lich Form abilities seems to hamper any type of Pow/Pres/Crit set up (although I need to really try this out more esp with Daggers and Axes).

Now, this is just my initial thoughts on playing a necro. I may change my mind at later lvl’s and some may disagree, but eh…it’s just an opinion.

LF Active Guild/Server

Just moved to Europe and I’m looking for an active Guild/Server. Both WvW and PvE (World Events/Dungeons) and an active server to go with it. Might be asking much I know, but it would be nice to see Orr, or any other high level zone, with people doing stuff instead of the crickets and tumbleweeds that is happening now.

(NA server that has active off times would be nice also…)

end game?

There is no real end game at all, except if you count Fractals which pretty much killed all other PvE aspects to the game. I wouldn’t exactly call this game an MMO either. It’s more of an RPG with a multi-player option and group PvP. Even PvP as of late isn’t all that great. sPvP is losing people fast and WvW is pretty much a zerg fest with no real reward for holding anything.

The only thing this game has that is the same is the grind. If you love that part of a game, you’ll love this one.

Grenth temple obsession

Grenth is important due to it’s choice of gear.

Grenth has ALOT more PVT (Power, Vitality, Toughness) gear than the other temples (Except legs, no temple has PvT leg gear, only through dungeons can you get the PvT Leggings).

PvT Gear is prioritized on being important due to its defensive stats for particular builds and classes.

Grenth also has more adds spawning at a time on several stages of “Cleansing” the temple to open it up which could also be a potential (And was) farming spot.

Grenth, also, has the 2nd most (Quickest way) organization needed due to the Shades spawning, you will see several guilds there communicating with each other to open it up and get tactics ready, which in turn could help in other temples & WvWvW.

Although Balthazar needs more organization, in order to get there it takes far too long, hence why people choose Grenth for organization.

That is why grenth is important

Actually, for my Guardian, it was the helm that wasn’t available for PVT. Melandru had it for me. I had to spend AC marks to get the helm for me with those stats. Lodestone farming or not, it’s a rarity to see any Cathedrals open these days with everyone running Fractals.

Contested Temples and Lodestone Availability

Fractals are ruining this game… it used to be great fighting along side, and helping others… now it’s just me trying to solo Orr.

Have to agree. Ever since Fractals was released the world population has dropped. Orr is a ghost town hence none of the world events ever get done. Rarely now do I see any temple uncontested. Even Lost Shore has no one in it minus the occasional farm group killing Karca’s. Everyone is in LA spamming for Fractals or waiting on the Dragons to respawn.
