In my opinion Anet did not overreact. I consider the difficulty to be perfect as it is. And I am no hardcore player. I play GW2 just for over a year now and there is still a lot of stuff I cannot use properly (in terms of skills and traits). We have tons of casual maps in GW2. And now we actually got a few that are indeed challenging. I love the challenges of the HoT maps. It just takes a bit of coordination and maybe the easy accessible mentor tag can help the players to organise themselves if no commanders ae on the map.

But when I read all these thread I fear the new maps will get tuned down to the usual easy-going ways and at least I will be very very sad. It makes me afraid of getting too used to HoT because since reading the negative comments in the forums I constantly fear they will take away all the fun by nerfing it too much.

Unplayable Solo

I just want to use this opportunity to say that I love the new HoT content and I find it quite solo-able for most of the time (At the moment I only play solo or together with a friend in a two-player-group).

Yes it is hard, yes, I die a lot. Yes, I run away from mops or Veterans. Yes, I get lost all the time (I am not good in reading maps ), yes at the moment I don’t know how to access 2/3 of the Mastery- or Heros-Points because they are either above or below me. But I love it that way. As someboy else posted in this thread, I am in no rush. It could be years until we get new content in this size.

And concerning the difficulty: There are too many easy maps in this game already. And now there are challenges that are really kind of challenging. I like it that the maps require my full attention.

I for my part hope that Anet will not change the difficulty. But it is sad of course that some people consider HoT a waste of their money. But maybe it takes time to get used to the new maps. They are not so easy accessible as the older ones.

Concerning the heros points I really do not have a final oppinion. Maybe there should be a reward for helping other people even if you already got the hero’s point? Or maybe the time limit (which actually makes hero’s points that have that un-soloable) should be removed? Apparently the number you need to unlock your spec fully is ridiculously high. But I don’t know, so far Ive only unlocked on Chara half….

It’s strange by the way that some people encountered empty maps at the weekend while others – like myself – had full maps. Maybe it was a problem due to full maps and overflow or something like that? Or was I just kind of lucky to be in the right corner of the maps?

Challenge Motes are bugged [merged]

Yes, I know this issue got reported numerous times now, but please, Anet, fix this. In case of other Living story episodes I got the challenge mote to appear the “usual way” by re-entering the instance about 20-50 times, re-start the episoden, switch to character creation screen and different players starting the instance etc. but in case of “Meeting the Asura” nothing works at all.

Just to update/information: The bug still exists. I tried different approaches. How many sons do not turn aggressive seems to depent on the order in which you get them drunk. At one occation at least 4 of them did not turn aggressive. The one I never got aggressive is the one standing immediately by the door to the minotaur prison/cage (one of the three marked with the green star when you start serving the ale. He does not seem to react normal at all, he does not answer or react or say anything if I serve him the ale.

How to report a personal story bug in-game

Which category (area/sub-area) do I need to choose if I want to report a bugged personal story in-game (via “Esc” —>“Support”)? There seems to be no category “personal story” or “My Story”, neither in the area “player” nor in the area “General PVE” nor elsewhere. Maybe I am blind, but I just cannot find anything that fits even remotely. Or I am not supposed to report a broken personal story quest in-game?

Thanks for your help.

PS: The problem I encountered is already known to the devs but I was wondering what I am supposed to do if I encounter some bugged personal story in the future. So I am asking for future reference.

Same issue here. I am a ranger level 13, “Protect the Sprites” and I picked “One Good Drink Deserves Another". There is always one Son of Svanir left that does not turn aggressive, usually the one by the door to the minotaur cage. I it several times and at one point at least five sons did not turn aggressive. It seems to depend in what order you serve them the beer. Please, Anet, fix this so that I can continue with my story.

I discovered two strange bugs on my Guardian (lv 80) and my Ranger (lv 80): On the Guardian the utility skill placed on slot 5 (number 5 – elite skill) keeps reactivating automatically all the time. In case of the ranger the skill placed on number 2 (Utility Skill tier 2) keeps reactivating automatically. Due to that both characters are in comabt mode all the time and since the skills reactivate themselves immediately after the cooldown is finished, is it really hard to change the skills on this slots, since you have a time window of 1 second for the change before the skills reactivate themselves. In both cases it doesn’t matter which utility skill I place on the affected slot. They just keep reactivating. It is pretty annoying.

I also can confirm the “sylvari not glowing-bug” – my sylvari character is not glowing, only the cultural armor as well as the luminecent armor part is.

The first thing that must be asked is, if u checked if these 2 skill are set to Auto-attack ?!
Can be recognized by the arrows in the edge of the skill icon.

They were not on auto-attack, but setting the affected skills on auto-attack and removing it afterwards solved the problem for some reason. I am a little bit confused but happy nonetheless. The annoying thing is gone and this is all that matters for the moment – thank you, dagrdagaz!

And my sylvari is glowing just fine – happydance!

I started to play GW2 about half a year ago. It was a present from friends. I enjoyed the game very much, but as it seems, just for a short time. At the moment I feel like somebody stole my game and replaced it with a similar looking but nontheless different game. I feel like quitting at the moment, although I’ll miss it. I feel bad about my friends who gave it to me for my birthday such a short time ago. Such a waste of money. If I’d bought the game myself, I certainly would be furious now, since this new post-patch GW is a different game in many key aspects. I cannot believe I was thinking about buying more character slots just a few days ago!

Now, Anet, you won’t see my money any time soon if you do not remove this stupid gate locking. I most certainly will not invest time in a new character, if the tutorial part is 40 level long! In any other game players are already bored, if they’re forced to play a 10 minutes tutorial part again in a second run! If you change that, maybe, maybe I can live with the changes in the personal storyline (although I do not like them). Its all such a shame since many other changes of the september feature pack are really good.

Suggestion: Keep the tutorial part of the game for new accounts so new players can profit from it and other players do not get frustrated. Or even better: Include tutorial features in the game that can be accessed by new players (or older players with memory lapses) if they want. Maybe in an instance. Your game, Anet, is a MMO. You can create flexible tutorial features. You don’t need to handle this like a normal game!

As for the “game experience” (yes, I understand, the changes are not meant to be a tutorial. They are about “player experience” and “rewarding gameplay” and not making the game “too confusing”): Before it was fun and free to explore and rewarding. Now it will be certainly speed leveling for 40 levels to everyone who isn’t playing his or her very first character! Before, yes, it was confusing in times for a newbie. But now the game handles it’s players like they are really stupid!

Thank you, A-net for ruining a perfectly working system. Now my new character (level 4) has skills (weapon and slot skills) locked that worked perfecty fine a few days ago! I cannot believe you guys actually introduced level gates for skills!

I started GW2 about half a year ago (maximum) I had a short period of "what the hell is that, so many buttons and features, but with try and error, the guild wars wiki page and some help from other players I learned all that stuff pretty quickly! And I was a MMO noob! But even a MMO newbie isn’t that stupid and the old system wasn’t actually that complicated. Now I’m supposed to wait until level 40 until the fun game begins? Especially since I already have a level 80 character and know what I am missing! I cannot begin to imagen how frustrated players with several level 80 charas must feel. You cannot be serious, A-net!

At the moment I’m still a little bit shocked. I cannot believe you actually did this f*** sh***. I simply do not want to run around for several levels with a crippled character. I really, really liked the freedom you had with your character in the past. I don’t think I want to play any new character anytime soon. And only future (and you, A-net) will tell, if I really want to continue to play GW2 under this circumstances!

Miniatures Have Been Hidden...

I actually bought my miniature pet to take it with me, not to store it as collectible. There was no problem in showing the mini pets before, so why is it now? Isn’t it just a skin, like other people said? I mean, it does not do anything, it does not fight, it’s just present to look nice! Please, A-net, find a solution!

I’m not sure this is a ‘bug’, so much as a design decision. Pretty sure the Devs said it would be a Feature (to save every name) they might consider adding one day, but not a bug.

Yes, I know. But for me (and, I’m sure, other rangers) it feels like a bug, since if its a feature, it does not make sense at all. So I’m hoping to get these annoying feature changed one day by reporting it as the bug it feels like….

And especially that the names get messed up/mixed up if you charm a new pet is certainly not a feature, but a kind of wrong programming or whatever. Or at least it looks like. Or is every pet supposed to have the same name?

Hi,

I know it’s a known issue and maybe it’s relativly minor compared to other bugs, but for rangers it is very annoying, that the names you give your pets do not save. Therefore, PLEASE, Arenanet, find some time to solve this known bug!

The Problem
The names you give the pets you have currently equipped stick, but as soon as you change your selection in the pet management window all names you gave your pets are deleted.

Allmost every time if you charm a new pet, it gets the name of your currently equipped pet. You need to delete that (wrong) name and give the new pet the name it is supposed to have. Due to that all pet names get messed up or deleted and you need to rename everyone.

This is very annoying since you need to rename your pets every time you change your selection or charm a new pet. I’m quite sure that’s not it is supposed to be since it doesn’t make sense at all. If you can name your pets, the name should stick.

My character is a level 12 human (noble) ranger with the juvenile jungle stalker as a starter pet.
Server: Dzagonur (DE)
Areas where I encountered the problem: Queensdale, Divinity’s Reach, Lions Arche (I have not visited other areas so far).
I’ve about 4 or 5 pets so far, mostly what you can charm in Queensdale (and one water pet from Lions Arch).

PLEASE, Arenanet: Find some little time once in a while to fix this very annoying little problem. You’ll make all rangers in Guild Wars 2 very happy people!
