From what I’ve read, permabans are usually due to compromised accounts. I suggest filing a support ticket about if it you haven’t already.

If it’s your account and not his, I suggest changing your password and not giving him access to your account, assuming he really is the one who made the racial slur.
A second infraction might cost you a 14-day suspension.
What has a subscription got to do with it?
He paid $60-$100+ for a product that he’s not been able to use.
you’d “just feel happy to get access”?
like its some privelige or something free?no, its a product/service and the vendor hasn’t provided despite being paid for the sale.
people like this should absolutely [particularly with week+ waiting times] get some small token of thanks for putting up with it instead of getting their money refunded.
something in-game like extra bank inventory space or something would totally be appropriate.
Yes I would be happy to just get access. ArenaNet makes no guarantees about service availability, and that’s true probably for every other online service you sign up for. I suggest going back and reading all those paragraphs you agreed to when signing up for the game.
I spent a week or so unable to access the auction house. They denied me part of the game. But I didn’t ask for anything for compensation. Yes I realize it’s different from being denied full access to the game. Does that mean I should get a smaller item of compensation to compensate for my mental suffering? No.
I’ve seen the same thing in another mmo. Something would happen whereby people either couldn’t sign on, or they didn’t get the same in-game items they got the previous year for a certain in-game event, and people would head to the forums to ask for compensation.
Maybe ArenaNet should give out compensation just to get rid of these compensation threads and make everyone happy. /sigh
How long are you leaving the trading post window open to see if it loads?

Based on the number of people suspended for offensive names or chat, you should know by now that this isn’t your typical mmo company.
Fortunately they’re not afraid to use the ban hammer.

If you haven’t earned any infractions previously, your permaban is likely due to a compromised account. If that’s the case be glad they banned it when they did.
You will have to wait in the support queue along with everyone else. Go find something else to do for a few days.
I just wish A Net would just tell me already. I shouldn’t have to resort to begging and if don’t know what i said that is so offensive how can i not make the same mistake?
Common sense?
Don’t refer to people’s real-life races in any way, regardless of whether you think it’s derogatory. Problem solved.

Likely a compromised account. Did you file a support ticket?
I think you should be compensated for each day you don’t have access to your account, based on the monthly fee divided by the number of days per month.
Oh, wait…
Really though, compensation? While I do empathize with you and wouldn’t want to be in your shoes, if I was in your shoes I’d not be asking for compensation considering there is no monthly fee. I’d just be happy to get access.
In any case, I hope your situation is resolved soon.
I consider myself to be a fanboy but see nothing with your names that would be offensive. Yes it can ruin someone’s “immersion” but I’d not consider that to be an offense.
My guess is it’s something you said in chat, something you think is fine to say but others don’t think is acceptable.

If you really were being polite then your posts wouldn’t be deleted for being “unfriendly”. o_O
Anyway, you are just going to have to wait, just like all the other people whose accounts were compromised. In the meantime, I suggest coming up with a long and secure password, one you haven’t used at any other places, and make sure you don’t use it anywhere else… ever. I also suggest getting a new email address just for gw2.
And since you’ll have time to wait, I suggest a scan of your pc using a reputable antivirus scanner as well as a malware scanner.
I’m referring to the Adolph name. Did you continue playing that character knowing it could lead to a suspension?

Be polite in your posts and they won’t be deleted.

The people who were banned for inappropriate names or language who then come to the forums to complain that they were wrongly banned are either (a) trying to pretend they did nothing wrong or (b) not able to comprehend that offensive names or strings of obscenities aren’t funny to everyone.
MMOs attract all kinds of maturity levels. Unfortunately ArenaNet has to play virtual parent and teach some folks how to interact in social settings because apparently some players haven’t been taught that yet.
Out of curiosity, if you knew your character name was subject to a suspension, why did you continue playing that character while waiting for a response to your ticket? Why not start a new character using a name that would not earn you a suspension?

So don’t use that term? Why would you even say that in the first place? What’s wrong with just “hello”? Why would you feel a need to point out someone’s race? Just say hello. Simple as that. Same goes for in-game chat.
his was a bug, not the user’s fault.
If you have proof of a bug with their authentication system, you should relay those details to ArenaNet.
Doesn’t matter what the reason is, they need to communicate what the issue is. If my account is suspected of “being hacked” then they need to convey that. Instead I get a message saying “YOURE BANNED”?
I think their security system is over zealous.
Would you rather they not ban your account and let the person who took it have full access forever?

What I do not understand is that GW2 and ANET incorporated a “Language Filter” to filter out the “cussing”, and yet they still ban for cussing or “racial slurs”.
People can walk down the street with their hands over their hears so they filter out offensive language. Does that mean it’s ok for someone to walk up to them and use racial slurs? of course not.
If you don’t want to be suspended for using racial slurs, don’t use racial slurs. It really can’t get any easier than that.
It’s still a valid question. I am wondering the same thing myself. Even if someone’s email and password are both 50 characters long and comprised of random characters, it should still be possible to remove one’s credit card to prevent unauthorized gem purchases.

You said “seriously offend anyone.” Could your comments have slightly offended someone? A comment that you think is only slightly offensive might be very offensive to someone else.
If a password is secure enough, it will take YEARS, often longer than a person’s lifespan, to crack it, unless the RMT gang is using massive clusters of computing resoures (not likely, or they’d be doing other things with their time besides trying to hack into mmo accounts).
Go here and create yourself a strong password:
https://identitysafe.norton.com/password-generator
Change the characters if you want, but use something complex!
If your password is complex enough, brute force isn’t an issue.
I used to work for a large tech company that used authenticators. Employees still gave out their credentials to phishing sites, including authenticator numbers. The data went to the phishers who then immediately signed in and had internal access to company data.
Authenticators don’t prevent people from giving away their login info.

Erm, they don’t NEED to try to hack into GW2’s account database. There are plenty of people willing to give out their own credentials to keep them busy.
If you were running a RMT shop where you had 100 employees, 10 of which were checking lists of email accounts and passwords (freely available if you know how to search for them) for GW2 accounts, and you found you had access to the ArenaNet account DB, you’d grab all the account data and would put almost all of your resources on hijacking those accounts and taking the gold. There would be a lot more accounts compromised than what’s currently going on.
But, like I said, they don’t need to draw attention to themselves and trigger any server alarms by trying to hack into ArenaNet’s databases when people are fully willing to give up their credentials.

If I have keyloggers on my pc, or if I respond to phishing emails, or if I give my account info to family/friends, I expect my account to be compromised no matter how many times I create a unique email.
I don’t believe this is due to a compromise in their database. If that was the case I’d expect to see account hijackings on a mass scale. Several thousand accounts out of what… over a million sales? That’s small potatoes.

So if I grow up in one area of the world and move to another area where the word “greetings” is considered a curse word due to different language interpretations, does this mean I can go down the street saying “greetings” to people without dealing with consequences? No it doesn’t.
People are going to lie and say, “But I didn’t know it meant that” or “I was talking to someone in whisper but accidentally said it in /map chat” or one of dozens of other excuses.
People need to learn to accept consequences for their actions.
If my account gets hacked because
- I acted up in chat (my choice) or
- I chose a name that was offensive and got me extra attention (my choice again) or
- I didn’t use a secure password (yes, my choice) or
- I used a password that I used for multiple sites (my choice, yet again)
why should ArenaNet compensate me for consequences of the above?

Huh? People ARE using one of the tools ArenaNet gives them. One of those tools is the ability to report people.
If you want to swear up a storm or if you want to pick a name you think will get you some attention, go for it, but be prepared to deal with the consequences.
If the people who are banned return and act up again, the second suspension will probably be longer, or maybe permanent. Woot!

Do you use the same key for multiple things, such as your car and your house/apartment door? No.
So why use the same password for multiple locations? You might not be dealing with tangible objects you can hold in your hand, but your online data should still be very important to you. Treat it as such.
They will give up updates eventually.
No no no they give updates daily that are incorrect. I am waiting for them to give an honest update. Wonder how long eventually will be.
So they sent you email with the wrong info?
If you are referring to daily updates, those are general updates for the entire community.
They will give up updates eventually. There are a lot of people who choose to use the same email address and password for GW2 as they use for other sites or services or games. Once the login credentials are compromised elsewhere, the GW2 account can be stolen. It seems a lot of GW2 players are the type to use the same login credentials at multiple places, which means there are lot of tickets to go through. Each one takes time to process.
As for accounts being banned AFTER the damage is done, this is not always the case. It depends on how much the person who stole the account gets done before the ban is applied. In any case, a ban to prevent further misuse of the account is better than no ban at all.
Many who are banned have had their accounts hacked. If your account is hacked, would you rather ArenaNet do absolutely nothing about it and let the person who stole your account run wild with it, taking everything? And perhaps selling your account?
Think about it. The bans serve a purpose. Yes it takes days to get the account back, but at least in the meantime you know that the person who stole your account isn’t still using it. It would be much worse if ArenaNet didn’t give a rat’s —- and let anyone take your account and use it at any time.
In the meantime, come up with a stronger password and make sure it’s one you don’t use anywhere else. Ideally also use a new email address. They are still free.

If you do get a second account, and you use the same email and password that you’ve used elsewhere, expect to go through this all over again.

I agree with the op. Cheers to ArenaNet for holding people accountable. It’s amazing how people think they can say whatever they want even though a lot of other people will read those words. Anonymity on the Internet makes people think there are no boundaries.
As for the people saying there is a filter, that’s sort of like telling people to walk down the street with their hands over their ears so they don’t have to listen to you yelling out obscenities in public. Oh wait, you don’t yell out obscenities to strangers in public areas? And why is that? Because there are consequences. This game works the same way.
I find it mind boggling that people would bother type curse words in chat, when it’s faster and MUCH more gratifying to say or yell those words.
Unless, of course, it’s for attention.
Anyway, ArenaNet is doing what other MMOs should have been doing for years. Thank you for trying to keep the game free of excessive immaturity.
