I’m a lvl 40 guardian, and I’ve got no problem with this. I only die when I’ve pulled too much or it’s a champion. If it’s a champion, then there’s always 20 other people around and one of them ALWAYS helps me up.
Bosses will be more visible as time goes on. Right now, lots of people are in the same level range because we all started at the same time. That means more people doing events than we can expect in the future (which means they’ll likely have to scale down the difficulty to compensate).
I’m level 40, and I have a noticeably easier time on a lvl 25 quest than a lvl 40 quest. Yeah, I still have to pay attention and not pull too much, but it’s still easier.
I’ve started checking all the completed hearts (quest givers, whatever) for new gear. If I want it, I buy it. I’ve got 5k+ karma, so I might as well spend it. Since doing this, I’ve started dying less. Keeping your gear up to date does make a difference.
Yeah, you can actually farm all three types of mats. It took me a few levels to realize that. So buy a pickaxe, a sickle, and an axe and just farm mats as you quest. It’s easy, and provides mats, money, and xp.
Like they said: find the gate to Lion’s Arch in your capital. From there, you can hop anywhere else, and just go to another starting zone.
After that hump, I haven’t had any problems with level, but I’ve also been clearing lower level areas just because I was there and it’s fun to clear maps.
As Kal implies, but the others fail to mention, armorsmithing can also make “bags” (boxes actually, but they work the same). It takes 10 bronze ingot and I think that’s about it. They’re easy.
I think it’s across all servers (just judging from the sheer number of items available). I don’t see why it would hurt a server’s economy. What it does is put all the servers on an equal economic footing, so that mats don’t end up being extra expensive on Server A but super cheap on Server B.
While it creates extra supply, it creates extra demand as well. There might be a reason servers/worlds should have unbalanced economies, but I can’t think of one.
Staff is pretty fun to use in WvW cause you fall into more of a support role which I usually hate but I ended up really enjoying.
I agree with this. I had an unexpected blast using staff in WvW. I think most people tend to go for max damage, so it was fun to sit back and act as support while all my teammates did the damage. WvW often comes down to chokepoints built into the terrain/structures. Being able to prevent enemies from crossing a certain line, even for a short duration, becomes extremely powerful.
I also think that GW2 pvp is more about a group dynamic than other games. As such, when Nuzt says, "Haven’t really seen a guardian yet and thought “awwkitten I’m dead,” I think it’s difficult to get that feeling in GW2 at all. At least in WvW, I generally think “awwkitten I’m dead” only when we’re outnumbered by a noticeable margin.
So if you want to be more self-focused, then I’d say go with warrior. I think guardians are more intended to provide at least some utility/healing on the battlefield, while also being able to hold their own in melee. But again, I haven’t actually played a warrior.
My main is a guardian, but I haven’t played warrior at all so I’m hesitant to offer any advice.
I will say that, while a guardian lacks much range, the greatsword does come with Leap of Faith (4) and uh..the chain pull thingy (5).
The staff has some range, but it’s more for healing and utility than dps. Not sure if you’d be into that as your alternate weapon set. I tried it out a bit in WvW and it was fun to sit back and try to heal my allies while funneling the enemies where I wanted them to go.
I don’t understand why your yearn for WoW-like endgame content, and then say you don’t want to play MOP. I think most people are begging for a reason to leave WoW behind, and GW2 is the first offering I’ve seen that can probably do it.
Here’s why I like GW2: I care about the story. In WoW, almost every quest was tedious, and I just kept my eyes on my XP bar the whole time. In GW2, I often level without realizing I was even close. This is because, for the first time in a very long time, I’m reading what the quest givers have to say.
Development teams only have so much time to invest. Blizzard focused so heavily on end-game content, that everything else suffered. Leveling became a chore, PvP under 85 was hugely unbalanced, and the difference made by gear was astronomical. In short, it appealed only to the most hardcore of gamers, because anyone unwilling or unable to invest 40+ hours a week was left behind, unable to even get into the endgame content because we were busy running heroics over and over just to get gear good enough to get into the raid, where people would just kitten about how we didn’t know the fights.
I don’t want that. If I wanted that, I’d still be playing WoW. I’m not devaluing the taste of those who prefer that kind of game, but I see no reason to try to out-WoW WoW (so to speak).
Anyway, GW2 just launched, so I think you’re pannicking a bit needlessly. The game right now is letting people explore and learn about a new world, new professions/classes, etc. The dungeons have new flair to them, and pvp has been uniquely revamped from anything previously done. There’s a LOT for people to do here, so I don’t see why anyone would be asking for more content yet. That’s just…bizarre lol.
I’m sure ArenaNet is more focused on fixing bugs and stabilizing the Trading Post right now, and will start looking at content suggestions shortly. In the meantime, just enjoy one of the best games to come out in a long, long time.
I don’t like the systemrequirementslab (CYRI) site much. We bought my wife a new laptop for GW2 that uses the Intel HD 4000 onboard graphics and CYRI said she couldn’t run GW2. She flipped on me!
The debs said they wanted a whole range of computers to be able to run the game, and they accomplished that goal. She runs it just fine.
Anyway, ArenaNet provided a good list of framerates with certain GPUs:

I don’t see the AMD Radeon HD 6410D on there, but I’m supposing it’d be above the 5800 series and below the 6700 series.
Anyone wanting to help will need to know your profession. I’m guessing guardian, but I’m not too familiar with other greatsword-wielding classes like mesmer and warrior.
I don’t think it needs to be capitalized. We wouldn’t capitalize “human,” after all. The problem lies in thinking that we are dealing with a race or ethnicity, but asura, sylvari, norn, etc. are species, just as are humans. As such, “asura” is not a proper noun, and the ArenaNet technical writers are right not to capitalize it.
Since “asura” is a made up word, it’s up to the technical writers to decide how to denote the possessive form, and “asuran” seems authentic. Something like “nornan” or “silvarian” would seem more odd, since they don’t end with the letter “a.”
Hey, Roy, do you happen to remember if the targets you were casting on were fully defeated or were they simply downed? The official wiki post for Glyph of Renewal (an elementalist skill also used to revive allies) said that it doesn’t work on defeated allies, only downed ones. The entry for Signet of Mercy doesn’t say that, nor does the in-game description. Buuuuuut, I’m thinking that’s the problem since you’ve seen it at least work once.
I’ve had problems with the guardian’s Signet of Mercy skill, which also is supposed to revive a nearby ally. I’m wondering if the same thing applies to me lol. It may just not work on a defeated player, only downed ones. Kinda sucks that the cast time is so long then, cause a player can go from downed to defeated pretty quickly.
The official wiki uses it:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura
“which asuran college they studied at”
“The asuran home instance…”
Could this explain it?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glyph_of_Renewal
“Only downed players and allied NPCs are affected. This does not work on defeated players…”
Maybe there’s a trick to getting this thing to work, but I’ve tried activating it a few times and it never does anything. I’ve tried it on people not partied. I’ve tried it on party members. I’ve tried selecting the person first, and I’ve tried not selecting anyone. Results are always the same: They go down. I click cast, aaaaaaand….they keep laying there and I just start reviving them the old fashioned way.
Maybe it’s a user error here (in which case I hope you can all enlighten me before you laugh at my stupidity), but I figured I’d post it in case others have seen the same lack of results.
Information probably isn’t necessary, but I’ll provide it anyway:
