I guess you should ask Tom’s Hardware to close then, since they seem to (a) don’t know what they are doing and (b) release inappropriate benchmarks that don’t reflect real-world performance. Is that it?
Well …actually yes on both counts.
If your only interest in crafting is to keep yourself equipped then don’t bother and just buy whatever you want for a tiny fraction of what you would have spent trying to buy mats and craft it yourself.
Hard lesson I recently learned.
While the mechanics and process of Crafting in GW2 is pretty cool and fun……..it is a total waste of time to do crafting. If I had just sold the fine mats I had gathered and not bought any extras to level crafting and craft things along the way I would have several sets of exotic weapons and armor. Instead I tried to do the “make my own stuff” method and am sitting at 80 with 2 pieces of rare crafted armor, the rest green and less than 2g to my name.
I am only level 68 atm but learned pretty early on that GS/5 Sig spec while great while running around doing hearts or just farming junk would eventually be pretty lame build. I would be ashamed to show up in a dungeon PuG with a 5 sig build.
In general I like crafting in GW2…….the process and mechanics of it are fun……this coming from someone that has almost entirely avoided crafting in other MMOs.
But something is definitely out of whack with crafting as you level and being able to keep yourself level appropriately equipped. As a Warrior I chose weaponsmith and armorsmith……..my 1st big mistake since while those 2 make the most sense for a Warrior they are also the least 2 ‘compatible’ in terms of needed materials. I have had to give up on one just to be able to barely keep the other matched to my level.
The sad part is that it really didn’t matter that I gave one up since it was vastly cheaper to just buy the gear I wanted that it ever would have been to craft those same items myself.
While at first I thought the idea of getting regular XP for crafting was kinda cool I am starting to thing now that its just part of the problem.
I think like others have said my biggest beef with GW2 crafting is the rarity, cost of the fine materials. Anet seems abit confused to me because they claim to be anti-grind so they put in alot of stuff to limit farming yet at the same time grinding/farming is a must for getting the needed amount of fine mats. The ‘need to farm’ is at odds with the ‘ability to farm’.
In the end if I had just ignored crafting as I have in other MMOs I would not only be vastly more rich than I am now I would also be better equipped. I seriously doubt that was the intent.
I have been wanting to try out build using horn as I do PVE. I am only level 40 atm. How would you recommend spreading the first 30 points in this build?

Is there a fix in sight? This is becoming a joke. Why should I log on when I know for certainty that my game will crash within 30 mins? And I am clearly not the only one. The forums are filled with players experiencing identical issues.
After posting Crash Reports, DxDiags, and the logs from anet Advisor thing….most people are told that they need to update drivers. It’s not an issue with our PCs when every other game works. It’s a GW2 issue.
No news has been released on the issue other than to say ‘we know’ and no fix appears to be coming any time soon.
I’m tempted to just give my game to someone else.
Deeply frustrated…
Edit: INB4 ‘my nvidia card runs fine!’
Hmm….so I am late but what the hell……….=P GW2 runs flawlessly on both my NVIDIA based desktop (560TI) and my NVIDIA based notebook (580m) both using latest beta drivers.
I have also so far been riding the 2h GS…signet in every util slot because for leveling and exploring its simple(lazy) and really all you need…..and above all else I am all about being lazy when I am first experiencing a new game world. But after reaching level 40 and starting to take a greater interest in game mechanics, profession synergy, working in groups, etc I am tossing my GS and going to experiment with the other more active, effective and useful options. X/Horn really sounds like i could be pretty cool. Ive tried Hammer a few times but never really spent enough to time to really use it well so might try that if I can get myself a decent Hammer.
LOL I was just about to say that considering Alienware…a.k.a Dell was the 6th word in the OP I did not need to read the rest =P
While I am only level 35 so have not done any dungeons I will say that I am having a hard time visually identifying when mobs are doing something I should dodge, block, etc out of. In some cases such as large events or where there is a large # of people attacking a Champion mob…If I am in melee range there is so much visual crap filling up my screen I cannot even see the mob let alone being able to visually identify ‘special attacks’. I understand the mechanics of the game but am having hard time with the ui/graphics in making the most optimal use of dodge and such.
I can only imagine it is even worse in dungeons where not doing the correct ‘avoid’ at the correct time = insta death/wipe.
I really wish there was a way to turn off other players effects….might make things a little less messy.
I am not really complaining about the mechanics of having to watch what the mod is doing……..I like their approach to combat mechanics…….its just technically I think they could use some better graphics/UI options for melee.
All that said I must say that despite trying to be different GW2 has made life much more difficult for melee -vs- ranged just as pretty much ever other MMO has. Its a night and day difference when I swap between trying to use swords, axes and maces -vs- just standing back using bow or gun…..the latter is a snooze fest for the most part.

I think I must agree with what seems to be the overall consensus……that the PS missions are overtuned. I am not saying that are too hard…..I have no problem having to redo traits, util slots or gear and adjust strategy to match up to a challenge. But when the mobs are simply smacking you for way more than is reasonable given level (you and them), how many of them there are and you are solo there is a design issue.
For my sake and the sake of ANET I think I will just abandon my PS…..As a Lvl 35 Norn Warrior I finally got thru the mission just after choosing an order and being told to goto Iron’s Arche but only after total destruction of my gear and a level of frustration that simply dwarfed any fun and took away any interest I had in seeing how the so called personal story plays out. If I have to do another mission like that I will quit the game which would be a shame considering I really like everything else about the game.
