This is true Natsu. But hearing what other people have done is giving me some ideas to make a build for me. I just don’t have the time to play with the traits and then actually test the build. I was playing with traits some yesterday but I won’t be able to fully play with it until the winter break.
Thank you to everyone that helped out with this question. Love my mesmers! I’ll let you know what I come up with once I find a build I like.
Thank you for not sweeping in TC BL, West Keep. I was able to do a mesmer thing and portal my guildies in. <3 y’all for that. Even though we didn’t take, I did a mesmer thing and proud of me for that. Might want to sweep next time.
Side note: Been loving this matchup so far. The fights have been great! Especially when y’all actually decide to fight instead of running and us chasing you down.

Ross Biddle: I’ve been using your build in sPvP to try it out and I like it. Been dueling with my brothers and at one point one of them yelled “Where are you!!” It was great. I’m assuming I’ll have more condi dmg in WvW and PvE since sPvP really just seems to put you down to the bare essentials? Also, pistol be alright too? And if I want, change a few traits if necessary to bring staff?
BlackDevil: I haven’t gotten around to your build yet. That’s next, I have midterms coming up. But tbh, I’m too cheap/lazy to buy new armor and then transmute it. I’ll still look at it though.

Ok, I’ve found the Blackwater one and it looks interesting and fun to play. Looks like it might be alright to use in PvE too (I like builds that work in both, less of a hassle for me to switch). I didn’t find Osicat’s non-shatter build, but that could be me being tired. Would you mind linking that when you find it, please?

I have a full set of HotW rabid armor and I miss it. I’ve been in WvW using PVT armor and I’m looking for a shatter/condi build for my rabid armor when I roam, or something that works well for both WvW and PvE.
I also have full rabid ascended trinkets. I got all this after the glamour nerf (didn’t know about that build until it was nerfed). I would prefer to not have to over haul the trinkets, but if I have too I can. Any suggestions on a build with rabid armor? I plan on playing with the traits later too and seeing what I like/works for what I want.
This build wouldn’t replace what I’m using now, just something I can switch to when I’m not with my guild.
Also, should I get the T3 human armor or is that too cliche? (can’t remember the code to get the accent on the e)
I’ve noticed asura are harder to notice in zerg fights (WvW) because they’re so small. But if that’s not what you’re going for, I have a fondness for the human storyline.
I’ve looked at most every thing and just haven’t found one that I liked. Or it’s lost among all these players kittening.
Anyway, my ranger reached lvl 80 and I’m looking for a build that could work well in both WvW and PvE (dungeons included). In WvW, I’m usually with my guild so something support-ish based, perhaps.
Right now, he’s just done PvE with a trap build and he has Rabid armor (Order of Whispers). But I can get other armor with WvW badges.
He has an axe/warhorn and sword/dagger with a longbow for when I want to change.
I’ve heard traps are good in WvW, spirits, and I think I heard that shouts could be helpful if traited.
I actually was in this same situation a few months back op. All I used what GS and Staff and I was bored with it. I didn’t feel like a mesmer. So I came on here and posted my build saying I was bored and what I should gear towards. Someone gave me a suggestion, I tried it out, and loved it! It was Staff with Sword/focus and that build made me feel more mischievous and maniacal (since every time I do something mesmery I feel that my character cackles). So if your bored or can’t find synergy (I think the two go hand in hand) then try a different build and see how you like it.
I’ve been using the traits and loving the build so far. I feel much more into the game than I did before. Before I just felt like I was pushing buttons. Thank you for your input!
I’ve also decided on an armor so yay!
P.S. I was wondering if I could swap put the focus for the pistol in pve or would that just not work?
A more detailed setup of your traits would be welcome.
The greatsword scales really, really well with power, but your build suggests that you’re using your staff more than your sword, is that correct?
How do you usually play? Like, when you engage a player or a mob, how do you kill them? What abilities do you use? Do you keep phantasms and clones up, or do you shatter them?
Here is my build with my traits. Traits are also a work in progress so I’m up for advice as well for that.
I didn’t put what armor and accessories I have because I can’t remember. But I do have a lot of soldier stuff since it helps with the power and toughness. And I think a Chrysocola earring for condition damage.
I’ve been in Orr a lot and there I use Chaos Storm as much as I can with Illusionary Warlock and two clones to help with conditions, then throw up Warlock when it recharges. Then I might switch to GS to kill them. I usually try and keep my illusions up, esp. Warlock for the added damage from conditions if I’m in a group. Then shatter them when I can get 3 illusions up easily again.
I use GS when a large group is too close for my comfort to push them back and then I’ll put up the Berserker.
I do try and do Chaos Storm with Phase Retreat when I can for the free Chaos armor.
Does that kind of help with it? Also thank you for your input.
I’ve been a lvl 80 mesmer for quite some time and I have no idea what armor I want to get him. I’ve thought about getting the Grenth Armor in Orr, Svanir Armor, CoE Armor, and kind of the human cultural.
I hear that the cultural and god armors aren’t that good, so I even thought about just making my own armor since I am a tailor (just have to get to lvl 400 though).
I run a Staff/GS mesmer (though I might switch the GS to something else) and I have 20/0/30/0/20 in traits.
Also, I mostly PvE and sometimes WvW.
So opinions as to what to outfit my mesmer with and why?
I am having trouble buying things from the BLTC. I can search for an item, usually crafting items , but when I go to click on the icon to purchase, I can’t. It indefinitely keeps loading the page. I can sell things fine, just can’t buy anything. This has been happening since before the update and maintenance yesterday. Just wondering if it is an issue the the program or I just need to be patient and wait for it to load.
