sigh. just when i’m about to get my ranger to 80, they’ll do this to the short bow. i hope this is all false information but it doesn’t look like it.

Upleveled stats are a bit wonky. Basically you need gear current for your level to have good stats. Every time you level up, your upleveled stats will actually drop a bit unless you update your gear (although trait points can somewhat mitigate the losses.). In fact, you can make level 1-10 chars with absurdly high power and crit damage because of the way the up-leveling works, but once you gain a few levels, your stats fall like a stone.

that’s my experience basically. i thought it was getting continually nerfed with every patch lol but i guess i was just leveling up and having the same gear. thanks guys for the info

Don’t bother buying exotics with gold, you can get pieces either through karma merchants in Orr (these ones seem to be pretty meh on stats) or by running dungeons for the tokens to get the pieces.

yeah thanks i know about dungeons and karma merchants. i have a fully geared level 80 ele. i plan on purchasing the exotic set for my ranger with gold because it’s the easiest option for me right now.

If I remember right from someone doing a test a while back the level difference between your current level and gear level makes a difference as well. When you were level 40 there was only a 5 level difference vs when you were level 77 having a 11 level difference. Mind you this test was posted on reddit about 4-5 months back.

i see. this game’s system is completely new to me and a lot of things don’t make sense. i would experiment with exotics at my current level but it’s a waste of gold at this point. thanks for that info though.

yeah i get that but it’s a horrible system. a player should gradually be getting stronger as he/she levels up and gets better gear with better stats. i’d prefer to have my level 40+ cond damage with less traits at this point than what i have now. that’s just my opinion anyway.

nope just rares for now at level 77. i’m waiting to get to 80 before i really gear up with exotics and some ascended trinkets. i’m sure at level 80 i will do decently. it’s this process of being stronger at level 40+ than at level 70+ that’s not making sense.

that’s funny. i am much weaker now with 30 points in cond dmg trait line than at level 40 with less in it. the traits i have now vs the ones i had at level 40+ don’t compensate for 500 cond damage difference either. in terms of skills, i had everything i wanted, including enough skill points for an elite, at level 40+.

this just doesn’t make any sense at all in my particular situation.

so this is normal? if i go for a power/crit build at level 40+ or so, my damage would be higher than a level 80 going for the same stats? how do you justify something like this? i really don’t understand.
