Skill 1 is utterly broken good, especially single target.

Damage isn’t amazing, but most of the attacks have a small cleave, and the third attack (let me emphasize this) is a guaranteed stun that seems to work through defiance. It doesn’t require a back facing like someone else said, it just petrifies them.

This is most noticible on the golem if you screw up in the second room, but it also works perfectly on frapp or frupp or whatever his name is. If you get him in a place where he can’t jump away, you just autoattack him to death.

Also, #2 works like the old FGS 4. If you do it into a corner it hits multiple times for massive damage.

The moves are different, but they’re exceptionally strong compared to their equivalents (except for 3, 3 is kind of weak).

from my experience playing caithe:

- button 1: i think you may be right about the damage. i initially thought the enemies in the instance were made more resilient on purpose but some people have mentioned doing a lot more damage to them using their own characters. perhaps backstab damage was kitten on purpose because it’s so easy to do it.

- button 2 is a leap skill, much like the ranger sword skill. it’s not meant to be like heartseeker.

- button 3 always goes in the same triangular pattern. you just have to ‘aim’ it properly.

- button 6 is not meant to stealth at all. it’s very much like thief’s withdraw skill.

-button 7 i never encountered this bug you mentioned. it always worked for me.

i was immensely enjoying caithe’s immensely OP thief skills (8 seconds of continuous backstabs without reveal, anyone?) before i encountered the stealth bug and couldn’t continue with the episode. more of this please though anet!

you guys don’t even know what’s really going on or what her motive really was, which is the point of the events. the writers obviously left the clues on purpose because they meant for the player, not the character you control, to suspect something’s going on with caithe. come on people, give the writers some credit

yes, they were there and had voiced dialogue even. anise ordered canach to learn everything he can about the pact’s preparation against mordremoth. for the people who missed that, perhaps you can try replaying the episode with an alt.

once again, as with episode 1, i agree with all the rave reviews. i am truly impressed that the devs are putting out this quality stuff, which is far beyond my expectations given season 1. i might just have to consider myself at least a part-time pve player

i agree with everything as well. this new content really surprised me in terms of how much i enjoyed it. the story held my interest the whole time, i liked the setting, i had fun in the battle with aerin, etc. definitely steps in the right directions as far as pve content goes!

Not this gimmicky kitten again…

You have no defense. You have no damage. You have a gimmick.

Every 24 (best case scenario) to 36 seconds you get a really obvious AoE that stacks up to 6/7 bleeds with under 10 seconds duration (if you’re lucky with procs) at up to 5 targets. More often than not it’ll simply spread out 1/2 bleeds across a larger group. This sitting at little over 1.1k condition damage.

For this you are built like a full berseker (i.e.: absolutely no defensive stats whatsoever), which will greatly outperform your optimal damage far less conditionally. You have basically no armor and a pathetic 15k health.

Your only form of defense comes from the semi-vigor and from the 2 seconds of protection on roll. While these things are good, they’re not nearly enough for someone with under 2.2k armor and barely 15k health.

You also have no condition removal whatsoever and no stun breakers. On a character as made of wet napkins and tissue paper as yours, this means any serious condition build will utterly destroy you, while anyone with a half decent burst and a stun can instagib you whenever they so choose, and there is literally nothing you can do about it.

You’re also running Troll Unguent, but you’re so very much NOT built for it. Troll Unguent is a slow but powerful regen. It’s built for very tanky builds, since it heals the most out of any healing skill we have, but does so much slower than any other. For a tanky build that’s receiving very mitigated damage, this is a very acceptable trade off. Your build, on the other hand, gets fragged by a gentle breeze. You need burst healing, cause if you’re under attack you won’t survive the time Troll Unguent takes to “kick in”.

Same issue goes for Signet of the Wild. Great signet, but you’re not running any healing power, and you have no toughness, so its effects are completely lost on you. You’re also not running Signet of the Beastmaster, so it’s not like you get any benefit from it, and you’re not running anything in BM, so your pet is hardly making the most of it either.

Hey, at least this is leagues better than Druzila (or whatever the name is)‘s build that was essentially a condition build with no condition, but it’s still a pretty bad idea.

rofl. yeah you got a lot of the weaknesses of this build right. if you play this as you would normally play whatever build you’re running, you won’t get to accomplish much. but that’s not how one plays this build.

to address some of your points, i use a gs on weapon swap to easily keep my distance on the other zerg//run from a thief who’s trying to burst me. i use lightning reflexes after i use my 2 dodges for an extra dodge and 100% vigor regen. i also use healing spring for healing and weak but functional condition wiper, which other people benefit from sometimes as well. for a build that’s supposedly easy pickins, i’m pretty hard to catch if i want to get away. i kill a lot more people than the number of times i die.

if you think of this build as a sniper that relies on condition damage and doesn’t engage in the front lines, it would make more sense. there is a very specific purpose for this build. not everyone wants to fight at the front lines or solo roam all the time in wvw, not me at least. there’s spvp for that.

why all this precision if at the end of the day you do not have critical damage? maybe better to have some more thogheness or crit damage itsels? isn’t?

i guess people still don’t get this build.

more precision = more chance to proc bleeds from sharpened edges and sigil of earth.
in 5 normal hits, you could apply 15 bleeds to your opponent if you get a little lucky.

that said, my lb is zerker + another 20% dmg increase from my rune set and traits. this setup is a true glass cannon and isn’t for soloing but running with a zerg. i use a different tougher condition build for spvp.

WvWvW: Sharpened Edges or Companion's Might?

Companion’s might by far. One barrage could stack 15 to 16 stack of might on a group. And it’s dead easy to spam SB1 to max stack.

Sharpened edge is one stack of bleed for 1 sec which is LOL. Under no circumstance should that trait be taken.

keen edge applies sharpening stone at 50% health, which bleeds for 6s. it’s very nice if you’re using a condi build.

well rampager’s also has precision as its main stat which is integral to this build. you want your crit chance as high as possible to be able to stack the bleeds really quickly. i have 69% crit chance without any buff with my own similar build.

this please. at least let us have a trait to get it back. doesn’t make sense for lb to get 300 more range and shortbow doesn’t. peas from the same pod really. also, axe having the same range as shortbow doesn’t make sense at all.

Skirmishing is rubbish unless you want the Trap traits or some silly Moment of Clarity build! You are on the right track regarding a bow build though…

PS I don’t get your love of Sharpening Stone trait and utility, we have much better options :/

I just saw your gear it has +Condi on it, that might explain your S. Stone though if you want to go Bow you should focus +Power.

if you insist on playing ranger, i’d suggest going for a bunker build at first. when you get proficient with the class, you can go for a more offense oriented one with less survivability if you enjoy that sort of thing

cool build. was running very similar traits and gear till i saw this. different weapon and rune sets though. i just can’t let go of the mobility that my gs gives me in wvw so i just inventory swap between lb and sb. i had 30/10/30/0/0 but i’m gonna try 30/20/20/0/0 for a while to see how the pros and cons go. thanks for the idea.

i’d suggest having yet another weapon, whether sb or lb, with corruption sigil to stack corruption to begin with then inventory swap to the earth ones after 25 stacks to make this build even more powerful

I understand why they get frustrated when people start fighting the grub instead of the real enemy. Especially when invaders are putting the pressure on and find yourself on the defensive. There is a time to fool around with the Champs, just not while you are outnumbered and losing ground, or trying to take SM. I don’t agree with a Commander putting down people because they are wasting time on a PvE Champ. It is not a good way to earn the respect of your troops, there are ways to let people know that it is not the time to PvE Champs without putting them down.

That’s the real problem with commander status really, no one earns that the honest way they get it thru money.

Despite the seemingly higher stats you got when you were 40+, I can be 80-99% sure that you’ll still get even higher stats at 80 if you’re at full exo/ascended gear than when you were @ 40.

i’m actually 100% sure i’ll get higher stats at level 80 with at least full exotic gear. iv’e checked out some builds with corresponding final stats. it’s just the upleveling mechanics that didn’t make sense to me.

Don’t bother buying exotics with gold, you can get pieces either through karma merchants in Orr (these ones seem to be pretty meh on stats) or by running dungeons for the tokens to get the pieces.

yeah thanks i know about dungeons and karma merchants. i have a fully geared level 80 ele. i plan on purchasing the exotic set for my ranger with gold because it’s the easiest option for me right now.

You can buy a full set of rabid gear in orr with karma (minus weapons), for a trapper build.

i’m not going with rabid gear

edit: and also, i’m trying to save up my karma for a legendary which i probably will never get anyway.

Oh you gotta try it. It’s called logical thinking. Stuff’s expensive so not everyone can afford it, unfortunately.

Never use SB 3-5 for damage? I use it for both utility and damage. Having a bit more damage with the same utility is fine with me.

Personally, I never really found much use for 1200 range on the SB. I have to constantly move to flank my enemy anyway. Being 1200 range away from him makes it harder to circle around the target’s flanking spots. My comfortable range for SB is 700-900. So yes, I’m ok with losing 300 range and getting a buff to 3 of my utility skills that are considered a loss of DPS when used.

Oops, my bad. You said “doesn’t make a bit of difference” and I equated it to you not wanting them. Point still stands though, we finally get a damage buff on weapon skills, now we just need to get them spread out to the other skills.

but these buffs are next to nothing considering sb dps mainly comes from 1 skill. they’re nowhere near high enough for me to consider using those skills as a source of damage and not just for utility.

Because you’re not supposed to use them as damage sources. You just get a tiny more kick out of them when you use them. I see that as a good thing.

Lastly, my point is that SB1 damage is untouched. The damage is still the same. In fact, you get a little more damage because of the buff on SB3-5.

Also, to be on topic, losing 300 range on a shortbow suddenly made it’s DPS lower? It’s still the same weapon, but you have to more mindful of positioning. In dungeons and PvE, it’s not that hard to adjust. In PvP, players rarely have opportunities to stand 1200 range away and pewpew indefinitely. In WvW, the only time i see this as a problem is when zerging (but longbow is superior to shortbow when zerging anyway due to barrage). Most solo roamers are within 900 range of their enemies already.
