Worried for this game (No Spoilders)

I’ve personally found no problems with PVE content. For the most part its fluid and entertaining. I’ve played Ranger since I started the game a few months ago, now a druid, and in both cases I really don’t get why people say ranger/druid is broken. I have no problems with soloing open world content, events, champions, veteran mobs, elite mobs. Most of the time I don’t get hit, because I move around a lot and kite well. On the druid setup I can heal through most damage without really worrying about it. Dungeons are quite difficult to me as I have yet to solo one, but those are intended for groups so I’m not complaining, simply making observation of my own failure. Fractals as well are not soloable for me but again, group content not intended to be solo’d so no problems.
I feel like the grind for masteries has changed the game in a lot of ways, I don’t like the continuous event pops every where I go. I’d love to see those types of things put people into an instanced version of the map for the event but thats just an idea in my own head and probably not feasible at all. Id’ really like to see the game have a more solo friendly element to it in dungeons, fractals, and even open world elements but again, thats just me. they need to make tyria mastery aquisition more fluid, and less "do this achievement to get it’ oriented. Jump puzzles and other elements that I assume were supposed to be a fun challenge to me seem more like a exercise in annoyance levels. Guild challenges are time consuming and in most regards pointless in my opinion, races arent races they’re obstacle courses with absurd difficulty with no real reward or entertainment value.
while I appreciate that challenge is something people, including myself, want. Hard does not translate to fun. Id like to see them put some fun in the game. while they’re making everything hard.
Grouping should be an option, not a requirement to play. To often in MMO’s I notice that the mentality seems to be the devs believe we’re all friends and want to be together all the time. This isnt true. we’re all humans, and while we are social creatures we also are independent creatures who like to accomplish things on our own. I like the Option to play with people. I’d also like the option to play alone when I want to..Dungeons could have an solo option, at the very least then I could see the content. lower the rewards tables, and such. fractals the same. so many MMO’s out there I never saw content because it was 10man, 20man, 6man instances and I most times didn’t go through the effort of getting to it. Contrary to the assumed belief that we’re all friends and get along together, and while it is true there are plenty of friendly, nice players to interact with, some people are jerks, and when you get alot of them together it makes it hard for others to want to join the party.

So- Make some solo friendly elements to the game(dungeons, fractals solo modes), slow down some of the event pops or instance them more. give us more playing entertainment options and less grind for no reason with extra difficulty options…

I assumed you were looking to generate feedback for the game. So I figured I’ share.

it doesn’t matter where you are, my human ranger says it all the time. Ive been wondering why. It’s annoying to hear “lyssa confound you” every 5 minutes. I like to hear the story dialogues, and the ambient world voice overs, but this constant player character voice makes me turn off voices all together just to shut it up.

It’s 2800 gems for a set of 5 which is $35, or 560 gems per slot for the set.[/quote]

indeed, thanks for the correction. Never the less a full bag slot cost me 400 gems previously. While I am compulsive and do spend on games far more than I probably should it still seems a bit pricey to me. Albeit 35$ isn’t a lot in the larger scheme of things.

its a convenience. Not one that is high on my list. It would accommodate having my gather-tron tools and salvageomatic available on all my characters without the hassle of bank switching. How ever I refuse to spend 50$ for 5 slots in my inventory. 250 gems per slot would be a far more reasonable price.

4 account wide inventory slots means I’d never have to switch my gathering tools and salvage tool between characters again. I haven’t bought it, but I can see the convenience of it.

I just bought guild wars trilogy/eye of the north last night. I would like to link the account to my current guild wars 2 account, but cannot find any manner of doing so. I looked online and attempted to follow the instructions but there is no link on my account page that gives me that option. Did they disable that feature, and if not can someone explain how I should do this please.

central Tyria mastery points (non-HOT)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

malachi.7503

In HoT I can run around zones and earn extra mastery points from various nodes. it took me a little bit but I got an understanding of that locations set up. Tyria on the other hand has me at a complete standstill. I’m a relative new player on a month old account having bought hot specifically just after the first of this month. By the middle of the month I’d leveled to 80 and completed multiple achievements, yet tyria is completely unleveled except for a few things. I think I had a total of 10 tyria masteries, and at first didn’t realize i had to bypass my entire personal story and jump to HoT story line just to begin the entire process.
Not only does the tyria mastery lines need to be made more accessible as HoT content is, but there needs to be some type of explanation for new players to understand what they need to do to get the process started at level 80. I didn’t like having to skip ahead in my story progression. Once I did it I realized how ever that much of the HoT is locked behind mandatory Mastery unlocks.

Warrior or ranger?

I run ranger primarily with longbow. its a great class with high mobility when you put speed on it. as long as you’re good at kiting and stay on the move you can do quite a lot with it. Druid is very good, I can heal through any fight.
I like to run nature magic and skirmish with the druid and mixxed berzerker and cleric gear set for steady damage output + healing.
with that said it can be hard to keep a ranger standing if you get overwhelmed with mobs. The kiting is great in good open places but can be a serious hindrance in smaller locals with tightly placed mobs. Standing still gets you killed.

GW2 to WOW but gw2 for every!!!

WoW was an interesting game when it started back in ‘05. With that said, Here’s of list of what I’ve found to be unfun in WoW:
Crafting- utterly pointless, all gear you can make is completely negated by any gear you can get from a dungeon. By the time you get the resources and craft that gear piece you want, you will have outleveled it to the point of not needing it at all.

Dungeons- can be fun the first time you run it, How ever you will run them dozens of times each trying to get one item to drop from some boss and even when it does drop you run a high risk of not getting it anyway. This is due to the players around you who will role on those items even when they don’t need them, cannot trade them, and only want to prevent you from having it.

Players- Obnoxious and rude is a common quality of the playerbase. Most of the players you meet will be crude immature and childish but you can occasionally meet a few nice people.

General gameplay- most of the combat is simple and requiring no real effort. There is no dodge, the spells and attacks from mobs will hit even through walls and objects. you can watch a fireball track you as you move away from that caster as if it is a heat seeking missile. that arrow will run in a circle with you until it hits you. Evasion, dodging, chance to hit, miss chance are all static RNG controlled factors with no player involvement beyond clicking the button to initiate the procedure.

Questing- typical MMO quest chains in which you spend your day getting 10 pig gizzards but the drop chance on those gizzards is .001 therefore you will kill 1000 pigs to get those 10. You’ll spend more time fighting through garbage mobs to get to your objective than you do at your objective.

Gathering- you’re in constant competition with every other player who’s also gathering, if they get the node first, you don’t. You’ll end up fending off dozens of mobs of varying levels trying to get the resource and the shear amount of resource you’ll need to craft just one item is tiresome.(see crafting comment)

Graphics- In 2005 that game looked like someone had hired a kindergarten class to draw and color it. Today it looks the same, except someone redid it with color pencils but with about the same level of skill as the original. If you love pastels, garrish designs, bright pinks and greens and armors with eyeballs for shoulderpieces you’ll find plenty. Nothing matches anything and by the time you think you’ve found a set you’ve leveled to the point of needing to grind for a new one. (see dungeon comment, crafting comment)

Max level content- You get to max level and will spend your days repeating some garrison objectives and generally milling about running dungeons you’ve seen a thousand times, or gathering those resources to level that crafting you’ve been working on that now you don’t need at all. Or you can finally go complete all those zones you’ve left behind. Now the mobs will all be greyed out and the entire game is uneventful since you can easily walk through nearly everything, including what used to be 40 man raid content while solo.

Auction house- extremely overpriced items from the lowest level to the highest. The playerbase seems to think they’re getting rich off of every piece of gear they put up. Status is measured in the amount of gold you carry and if you don’t have the right gear you get rejected from groups regularly.

Grouping-Everyone hates every other class but their own. You can use the LFG tool but if you aren’t a healer or a tank you will spend long periods in que’s waiting to play. If you are a healer or a tank you will be mocked and ridiculed for failing to do your class job. If you’re a healer everyone expects you to never let them die. If you’re a tank everyone expects you to never let them get hit. The dps classes have no understanding of moderation and will simply spew damage output then blame you for them pulling those mobs. The healers will automatically be targeted by any mob the minute they heal then be ridiculed for taking that automatic aggro.

These are my thoughts on the game, I played from 05’ until 09, in my opinion its a game that’s gotten old and stale and far past its expiration date and saddly a lot of MMO’s out there are still emulating it. Sure when it started it was a new idea, along with everquest 2 and several others that came out around that time. No one has come up with a new idea since, everyone still to this day uses the same mechanics, same quest systems, same designs and amusingly people for some reason believe it was the first of its kind.

I appreciate everything you all just posted. How ever it all brings me back to my question, why am I not getting that leather out of those bags? your answers reassure me I did understand it relatively, the resource bags I’m getting around that level range should be giving me the needed leathers even if the gear drops don’t. I read on wiki that ettins in timberline falls drop bags with that resource, I’ve been hunting them since 6am, its almost 10am here where I am now. aside from 2 someone sent me, I haven’t gotten any out of those bags. which is why it started to seriously frustrate me. it seems odd to me that such a common resource would be so hard for me to find.

so if I understand this scaling principle correctly, if I want drops for tier 4 leathers, I should make cast of characters to get to that level range. That even if i get bags that are supposed to drop that tier of mats, scaling makes it scale up to my lvl range automatically . so at lvl 80 I’m in essence cutting my own hands off because i’ve reduced my chances of getting lower tier mats.

a distinct absence of rugged leather drops

When I went through the leveling process initially I got plenty of drops, including rugged leather scraps and such. I leveled my leatherworking to 280, leveled my toon to 80. This past week I’ve been enjoying going out and gathering resources, one of the resources I need is rugged leather. How ever no mob drops any type of item to give me that item. I get thick leather, linens, ores, all sorts of things, but not one single rugged leather in any form. I’ve looked it up on wiki, says its a common resource drop. I’ve traveled to all of the locations that its supposed to drop from. Ive gotten hundreds of bags of various kinds this past week, not one single rugged leather in them.
I know some people play for the imaginary money in the game. Some people play for the all powerful elite gear, I play for the shear thrill of the kill, the fun of leisurely roaming and gathering and crafting, taking my time and occasionally standing on top of a mountain and watching the environment. What few goals I do set for myself are minor, little things, like craftng past 280 and doing all of the crafting professions on one character, I’m not trying to be rich, or the most powerful. right now, this complete absence of drops is starting to make me bored. I didn’t level a character to 80 or get my magic find up to end up with nothing.
Can someone please tell me where rugged leather is, I see it in the trading post, so apparently people are getting it. where is it? why am I not getting it? Does being level 80 or having my magic find above 50% have some effect on drop rates? do I have to farm mats in a leveling characters to get mats or other items?

some questions about mastery

1- I have not unlocked the story in HoT for the mastery panel does my xp accumulate and store until I do?

2-my xp bar shows full and has not changed am I still acquiring xp for mastery even though it isn’t showing?

3-I collected many hero point nodes during my lvl process to 80 have I put myself at a deficit by doing so?

I’m feeling a bit lost due to a extreme lack of information on the whole system. the website describes the system but does not go into detail. The wiki just seems to mirror the site.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

I bought myself a guild charter thinking I’d get it just far enough to get storage out of it. Personally I don’t want a hall, at all I’m happy with my single solo guild being based in lions arch. How ever, in order to get my storage, I have to build a hall. to build the hall I have to do a mission once a week.
let me state again. I don’t want a hall. My complaint if I may add to this discussion is that I am required to build one in order to build a market, in order to get storage. I don’t want a guild hall, I don’t want a market or an arena, or any other of those perks.
Perhaps while we’re discussing peoples preferences we might acknowledge that some of us want some simple things that for us as individuals makes the games interesting to us and that we’re happy to let your bigger guilds get the bigger perks out of it.
I like to run the mission, I don’t mind that its one mission per week per account in the guild. I like to have an extra space with a few vendors that are already accessible to me. I want to put on my guild armor with my guild emblem and run around the world mental roleplaying my own game, my way. I want to put banners up in my little lions arch pseudo hall and play. I just want my guild bank access without having to build all the extra stuff I don’t want.

I don’t personally understand the need for restrictions on an account that is paid for. How ever i accept that they are there. Is it possible that there could be some form of sticky post on forums here that would explain that to new players like myself who’ve purchased the game in full and would like to have that information available?

I was playing on a friends account for a week or so, today I decided to buy the game. I deleted the characters from that account to get my names back, and now it tells me the names are in use. Are names account bound? Why can I not use my names having just deleted them from the other account? Are names permanently inaccessable once input into the server from a given account?
