if I may answer a question for you: there is a goal. It is a part of the story line, which will make more sense as you level past 10 and actually start to see the events unfold in front of you…It will culminate in a massive battle against a dragon in which you will be joined by hundreds of other people for the world boss, and/or solo/small group for the story mission. then, you will find that the story continues from there. Lvl 80 is not the beginning or the end, it is simply the point of highest strength you can reach through normal leveling. by the time you reach lvl 80 you will still have 7 zones or so to work through, masteries to aquire, and unless you are very methodical a bunch of dungeons, fractals, raids, jump puzzles, map explorations to complete.
You absolutely will not get every story achievement in one go, in some cases you’ll be lucky if you get more than completion done on the first try.
W-v-W is another entire system unto itself. Do you like large scale siege battles? if yes, then W-v-W is for you. Imagine 300 people clashing together trying to take/defend a large castle or garrison, complete with all the engines of war.
Do you like small skirmish PVP? well, the mists are right there. Join with 6 man teams and go on full squad based killing frenzy. Ranked matches, unranked matches. Leaderboards.
There is a lot to do and experience on the journey to 80, and then there is a butt ton to do after you get there.
right there with ya man. I quit Wow way back when burning cursade was released. I revisited a few times because friends insisted I “come see it now”, but I never got in to it after the vanilla experience.
fast forward to 2 years ago i came across GW2 and checked it out, fell in love with it almost instantly. Bought HoT and have enjoyed it completely. No more feeling like I have to play because I payed every month, No more mandatory rebuys of content to be able to enjoy the game further, No more surprise transactions to bleed my wallet.
I did leave for a year, so many games so little time as it were. Yet guiild wars title has always been on my games list.
Still happy I bought it.
I like that I can freely roam around the game world randomly engaging in combat with anything I encounter and I will never truly outlevel any area. I take my fully leveled geared out character and go to divinity reach and can still enjoy the gameplay there.
The community is pretty fun and generally accepting of one another, a rarity in games of this size. I have had hours of fun simply talking to people I meet along my trip across the maps.
there are so many dynamic events occuring that I always feel like there is something to engage in at any point in time.
Personal goals are attainable and while the grind is real in some cases it is still entertaining .
examples: I want to gather 2k of every resource in game, doable albeit this will take a while especially when I use a majority to level crafting and sell off stockpiles to fund my alternate characters.
gaining all achievements is a long term goal as I have to play through the story multiple times however this is ok since the story is fun and the narrative interesting. Also its cutscenes are skippable so when I dont actually want to listen to queen jena give her speech for the 8th time its ok.
Jump puzzles are while annoying at times a community activity and many times I’ve met nice fun people to play with as a result of these little gems of aggravation.
the point is, there is always something to do, always someone to do it with, and always an opportunity to enjoy the game, all without a subscription or a paywall for content access. you bought it, you own it, all of it. its the best game for the buck.
I bought the HoT package shortly after launch as a new player. I can safely say I have not been disappointed at all with the purchase, I have even bought gems to expand storage space and character slots.
There are games out that aren’t nearly as enjoyable, cost more, have little to no support from developers and a generally terrible community. Where as this game seems to be updated regularly, has a good community that for the most part plays well together, a good large world with plenty of story and albeit sometimes annoyingly time consuming components it, but its worth the money being charged for it. I don’t see that there’s anything to remedy.
thanks, i see the thread now, didn’t realize a thread was already active on it, thought maybe it was on my end at first.
Didn’t realize this large thread was already here. //posted same error on gen forums a few minutes ago. East coast US no connectivity.
ok, so servers are down then I take it.
that did not work.
I keep getting "connection error detected: retrying. Is anyone else getting this?
I think if someone said to me I had to pay them any amount of currency to join their guild,
I’d laugh hysterically then tell them how much I charge to let them invite me.
“oh you want 10 gold for me to join your guild? well, It’ll cost you 20 gold to invite me< you can have 10 gold back if I decide to leave the guild after your trial period”.
Yeah, I think gw2effiency does pretty much all that…
well, it does list my profiles completed recipes it doesn’t really highlight what’s missing, I have to have a second page open and compare the two lists. Which is fine, in practice it does solve my question, but I was hoping there was one site that did a comparative data scan without me having to do it manually basically but its ok.
I am looking for a crafting addon that will show my list of professions, what I have learned in recipes and highlight what I do not yet know. Is there any such Addon that does this?
I have this crazy goal of having one character learn all of the professions and I want to complete each one as much as possible, but I am never sure if I’ve missed a recipe somewhere and as I’m sure you know once you get a list compiled it can be quite a chore wading through each profession trying to find that one recipe you might not have completed yet for a set. I was hoping there might be some database/addon that might help me with this.
The problem was, that none of that was happening…I apologize for my anger. It is very frustrating trying to solve these riddles the developers of games today seem to feel the need to throw into the game. While my character may be from this world, I the player am not. some clear explanation of mechanics needs to be used to help understand how to do these things. It seems like to many companies today are writing these quests, objectives, tools to a point of blind confusion. I don’t mind having to figure things out, but some things should be more clearly defined. Rather than having to go outside the game to a video and a instuction manual.
I have actually completed that part. after the 3rd time restarting the final instance from writing this thread. I did finally start seeing the white circles appear and the dragon did attack.
I’ve been on that platform for 45 minutes. aurene isn’t attacking. the skill has procced once in that 45 minutes. there’s no white circle, just a big platform surrounded by water.
in that time, I got the mob to 50% health, as a result of one proc of that skill for aurene. the mob simply healed itself back to full health by sucking it out of me, or my pet.
(edited by malachi.7503)
I just need to know, who’s bright idea was this quest?
a long protracted sequence of events to “train” this dragon, concluding in a battle with a mob that heals itself, never takes damage past 97% while waiting on a “skill” to activate to command this dragon to attack.
I don’t understand what you were trying to do here, be annoying? time consuming? flatly making a mockery of any semblance of logical game play? I am a soloist, on a druid. how exactly do I defeat a mob that simply sucks the life out of me, my pet, the dragon, to heal itself every time I get it to 97%?
making things challenging is all well and good, but challenging means I have the means to defeat the problem given time. I cannot defeat a mob that simply heals itself fully every time I , my pet, or the npc with me gets to close to it. This isn’t game play, this is pointless repetition with escalated improbability. I’d really love to see the day when gaming companies get back to writing games that don’t need a video and a college degree to play them. but in this case, the video didn’t do any good, as it simply showed someone doing exactly what I’m doing. I know, some of you have completed it..how bout one of you go to that wiki, or that youtube everyone seems to love so much and actualy explain to the rest of us how you did that.
client set to admin>disable dpi scaling, compatibility win8, no change, blackout within 10 minutes. settings on low, …
going to try 32bit client. will update.
get a new computer and this belong in the tech forum.
Have a new computer, this type of response is neither helpful or relevant
UPdate, blackout in pvp lobby
UPdate, moved from lab and now observing pvp—awaiting blackout, will report bak when it occurs again.
update- screen black out during combat- settings on low, animations high, used teleport power (druid)..
unsure if any of this is related but its what i’m doing at the time.
Location- mad king lab
UPDATE- Reset-restarted, turned all to lowest>performance- experienced hype accelerated graphics both player and npc attack animations extremely fast display. No crash so far, no black screen. Just extremely accelerated movement and combat.
Update, working my way through setting trying to identify what might be causing it…
\64bit client. turned smaa and post processing off, triggered black screen immediately.
further note, has cursor- sound, not related to location- no other interaction possible-
restarting-
Every time I’m playing mad king content of any kind, or standing in lions arch my screen blacks out and I get these weird sound effects…like its trying to put me in a spooky setting…maybe I’m having a “nightmare”, but the joke is getting old.
I cannot play the game with a blackout screen, regardless of how interesting the sound effects are. I’ve turned all settings to lowest, changed resolution, double checked my drivers on this new computer and insured everything is installed properly, its something in the game directly from the mad king event and while as I said the “nightmare” idea is amusing the first time, it stops being funny when it’s continuous and doesn’t go away after a few minutes.
Now I’ve blacked out in the middle of fighting a boss in the laberinth in the middle of a group. so basicly while I’m sitting here typing this out my character is standing there, getting killed, in the way of the party, or at the least not helping anyone at all and I cannot play.
I don’t know what to report it as, a bug? I have no information to give but that my screen is black and I have to constantly stop the game to get it to go away. so I’m posting it here, as feedback, a bug report, what ever.
This has nothing to do with this topic:
my guild is called Singularity ad Infinitum, the title caught my attention for that reason alone lol, I couldn’t figure out why someone would want to make another one.
Don’t know a thing about the legendaries, I’ll be going now heh.
Well, I have 92% luck so far. sorry I read the title and figured you must be talking about luck find which is raised by consuming luck you aquire from breaking down gear with salvage tools.
I’m not sure how exactly it works in regards to the rng , btw rng means random number generator. Its the computers equivalent of rolling a 100 sided dice and giving you loot based on that number and an internal numerical value associated with the given loot on a table per mob or type of mobs.
it is random in that the list is populated with all possible loot that a given mob can drop and then assigned a number, the Random Number Generator then rolls the dice, the number you get, assigns the loot you receive…
The one I always get stuck on is mob attacks that follow you. There is a dodge mechanic, If I dodge a attack, that attack should not auto redirect to hit me anyway. Whats the point of dodge then? oh look that centaur is firing a bow at me, I dodge, arrow curves in mid air and hits me anyway. ..oh that mob is tunneling underground to attack me, dodge but mob redirects in mid tunnel and hits me anyway. oh that etten is about to power strike with his club, dodge roll behind him, etten turns and hits me anyway…whats the point of dodge?
I don’t see the point personally. Like most every game out there once you max level that’s it, no more xperience gains at all. This whole thread sort of confuses me.
Maybe xp after all max could convert to copper or something. I don’t remember the game but theres one out there that does/used to give money for xp over cap in percentage.

all those resources around the world and yet [people] buy the mats instead. for small quantity needs I can see it, but why are you buying mass quantities needed for the leveling process. You’ll cut your cost in half if you just take the time to gather.

I seem to recall running into this guy once. He was fun.
story inconsistency- One in particular that stands out for me is human story line, I’m supposed to go find this guy and ask him about some parchment without letting it be known that I’m working for the queen, as per the dialogue in one scene, when I reach him, I’m telling him all about how I’m working for the seraph and we need this information…Seems to me if I am supposed to be keeping that a secret so the spy won’t find out I’m looking into it, I shouldn’t be telling the guy I’m questioning. There are others of similar vain but I cannot recall them off the top of my head.
I’d like to include that to bank areas and auction area. People put their merchants, pets, boxes right in the way I don’t really understand it, but its annoying.
I started playing the game on a friends account because they didn’t want to. I bought the game a week later. I’ve been playing for 2months or so, maybe 3 now, I lose track of time after a while. Welcome to the game. its not like other MMO’s as questing is centered around the heart system and exploration is as much a part of the game as anything else.
Dungeons, fractals, wvw, the mists, theres a lot to see in GW2. I get annoyed with certain elements of it but its a good game even if it does sometimes leave me wondering if theres any spot on a map I can stand that doesn’t have 100 other people too. lol.
would you? I tried for a week straight every day and never got to the top of it. I gave up on it. Whether lag or my not so nimble fingers I have accepted I’m never going to see the top of that puzzle under my own power. I did have someone in the area port me to the end of the puzzle for the achievement but I’ve yet to get the dive location.
That jump puzzle is absurdly hard. Watching a video doesn’t make a thing easier, it just shows how a person did it when they succeeded. The fact that we need to find so many friendly people to rezz and port is not an example of how its not so hard. …The jump puzzle is very difficult.
aren’t those fogged out areas we can’t access actually the map areas from GW1? the homelands of the various factions or something like that. It would be cool if they could be accessible at some point though I agree.
The ranger is highly mobile and adaptable to anything. If you’re standing still on a ranger you’re doing it wrong. I take my Dragonhunter into a fight and die in seconds in some cases, where as I can take my ranger and not only kill the mob easier but take out his ads too usually without taking half the damage I do on that dragonhunter. Burst damage and buffed damage mean nothing if you’re dead in seconds.
I’ve solo’d verdint brink nightfall events with my ranger/druid I wouldn’t even think of trying it with dragonhunter, I die just trying to make my way around the HoT zones when I play dragonhunter through. I can hunt champions while solo on the ranger.

I’ve personally only ever gotten about 3 gold spam messages all the time I’ve been playing. Unfortunately its a commonality in MMos and online gaming in general these days. The companies can’t really regulate or put a blanket halt to it without adversely effecting their legitimate player base as well. So we ignore, block, and keep moving.
How was it forced on you? Every once in a while when I log into the game I get a little pop up that asks me to register sms, I decline and keep moving. I’d rather not get that pop up every few logins but its just one extra click to say no to it.
I see, thanks.
I was trying to finish working on my dragonhunter today and noticed that I have fragments of faith trap twice. Why is this? 20 points for the same skill doesn’t make sense to me.
Interestingly, I agree the dragonhunter and druid would make more sense if they were switched. How ever, you’re completely wrong about the druid. you say you only used one skill I submit this very statement on your part means you don’t understand the class at all. I didn’t like the druid when I first hit the spec, but once I played around with it, I realized it was quite viable. I mixxed berzeerker and cleric gear, gave myself runes of dwanna, which gives me a balanced damage /heal ratio. I don’t know anything about these meta builds people are talking about, I never use guides to work out my characters.
The druid is not the crappiest character by any means. I personally think the dragonhunter is far weaker than the druid, less mobile, more fragile, and overall not as effective. NOw, I’ll save some people the trouble and go ahead and point out, I suck at playing the dragonhunter. so, while I agree that I feel the dragonhunter and druid would be better suited if they were switched simply because thats how I felt when I got druid, and then made a dragonhunter. That doesn’t change the fact that the druid and dragonhunter both are good classes and I’m simply better at druid than the other. You obviously didn’t play it long enough to understand it.
I’m a little curious, how is the dragonhunter OP? I take my druid into HoT and run around killing everything in site, full mobility, good heal through damage, descent group support, and adequate damage output. I take the dragonhunter into the same zones and die usually before I can get a few hits off.
Don’t get me wrong, I think druid would of worked better on a guardian crossover rather than ranger and I think the dragonhunter would of found better form in a ranger cross over. With dragonhunter I find my longbow skills forcing me to stand still much to often, while I’m doing plenty of damage output I’m also taking so much I can’t maintain a good fire pattern. Kiting on a dragonhunter is a no go because all but the first skill require me to stand still to fire.
I really don’t understand the complaints about rangers, they are fast, do good damage and I can move and fire continuously with it. the druid cross over works well because of that mobility, but would function better in a guardian because the lack of mobility would be made up for with the healing capacity.
It seems to me rangers damage is fine. Its offset being that when played right I don’t ever get hit or at the least barely ever take damage on my ranger, where as on my guardian, I spend more time reviving on certain things than I do playing. If anything they need to drastically increase melee classes toughness to withstand absorbing that additional damage from being forced to stand there at that close quarters. I can easily kite around mobs and fire them down with my longbow, I dont mind that it takes marginally longer to kill the mob. I cannot how ever do that with any melee class. Melee strikes me as a stationary target with nominal damage mitigation which is in my opinion a massive deficit. I can do far more on a ranger at any time against any mob than I have been able to do with any melee class.
so to me, no ranged weapons don’t need to be buffed, melee classes need to be tougher, and increased mobility in combat.
My suggestion would be stop designing absurdly hard things and trying to pass it off as fun.
I’d love it if they’d give us the option of doing something useful with a lot of that stuff. It just piles up and you don’t need as much as you end up with. I have almost an entire bank tab full of dragonite, fragments and other things because for some reason i think I might need it. When I take all that soulbound gear to a forge I end up with 3/4 combination, and for some reason can’t seem to put 4 pieces together at once.
How bout we get rid of the soulbound tag all together. personally I think its a bit redundant to fill up my inventory with soulbound items I then have to take to a forge to transform it into something I can breakdown or sell.
I’m confused, is your scenario meant to imply that when I die from a encounter I should lay there and wait around for someone to come revive me? My understanding is that when I die, that little message pops up and says “use waypoint” and I do. I play solo alot and do die occasionally, using a waypoint allows me to get back to playing the game.
Perhaps I’m not understanding what you are asking.
As to grouping, I’ve noticed that when we encounter various world mobs the waypoints near the mob are blocked for the duration of the encounter. If its a large group it does make sense to wait for revival, but in some cases to me it makes more sense to run back to the fight from waypoint rather than force group members to stop combat to help me up. Again though, perhaps I’m not understanding your question properly.
These servers operate on layers, each layer has a different timing occurring for its meta events. The meta events themselves are triggered by various things at different times across all layers. Which layer are you recommending to be the primary to which all other layers are subject to comply? Should the updates be postponed indefinitely during high volume hours?
one way to eliminate gold spam would be to do away with trade/mail all together. Make crafting more viable resources in world more abundant and let the player create their own gear and gather their own resources. With no way to send or receive items from other players gold sellers would have no way of exchanging money between players. The auction house effect would still be available as it does not require any form of direct player to player exchanges.
I’m not saying its viable or feasible as most MMOs social elements revolve around the idea of mail, but it is a solution that would work in context of gold sellers.
I bought gw1 trilogy/eye of the north recently. It looks nothing like I remember from many years ago, which is probably good. I don’t understand the class combo system, but I’m learning slowly. I was thinking of buying those hero slots but decided against it once I realized that the henchmen hero already fulfills the same role for free. Its a much slower paced game than gw2 and seems to be more solo friendly. alittle old school rpg elements with a modern twist here and there. I don’t play it much, mostly because I don’t understand some of the game mechanics.
