I don’t think we’ll see much of anything any time soon… but if we’re putting up wish lists:

• Show enemy player names
• Unique maps for each borderland (three total BL maps)
• Guild rankings and ladders on a Web site
• Continue improving the culling issue

Oh weird. I had this happening earlier today to, and then it seemed to magically resolve itself. No clue what was causing it, but doesn’t seem to be happening to me any more.

There has been a lot of discussion on these forums about people jumping on the JQ bandwagon just to say they were on the server that finally took down HOD. Obviously the original JQ people are not happy about this because they have worked very hard to get to where they are now (gratz). I propose this: If you want to compete in T1 and actually feel like you’ve accomplished something, then join Eredon Terrace. ET jumps between T1 and T2 weekly. Queues on ET range from instant to 15 minutes ish, much more appealing than the 1 hour + Queues on JQ and HOD.

As a side note: I would rather Anet stop free server transfers all together, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen in the next week or two. So if what you want to do is transfer and compete at the T1 level then I’d say do it right!

I have no doubt that the road ahead will be a difficult one for ET it will take more man power and coordination than what we currently have in order to compete effectively at the T1 level. Would it be more satisfying to actually be a part of building something or jumping on someone else’s bandwagon? You decide.

Wow, I’m shocked right now. Been a loyal super-fan since alpha, but this was just incredibly poorly executed Jon.

You’re now telling us this was a thinly veiled nerf to make us use the other skills on the weapon. Jon, people do use those skills already! They are control effects and are used as such. How is nerfing the damage on the 1 skill gonna make people stop using it? We’re still going to use the weapon the exact same way (if anyone still plays Ranger that is). So you want us to spam our slow, evade, poison, and stun as soon as the timers up, so we’re not using 1 as much? Wha? What??? Your argument makes zero sense sir, and I beg you to reconsider.

I think what you are really trying to say (not say) is you didn’t want all rangers to feel like they had to use shortbow, and hey guess what, we agree… but you should have instead tweaked the other weapons upwards, not decimated the only moderately decent weapon into uselessness.

The fact that Quickening Zephyr’s buggy reaction to this change (which is a WAY bigger issue than the 7% nerf) isn’t even mentioned after you’ve had a few days of testing results is totally unacceptable. I don’t really know what to say. Very sad day for rangers.

Considering the response we got on this, I won’t expect any changes any time soon. This will just fall into the black hole of stuff they might someday get to. Since I can’t cancel my sub, I’ll protest in the only way I know how. No gem purchases from black lion until this is fixed.

I think the problem honestly is that the devs probably did their damage balancing in very sterile environment. Like they probably lined up their testing ranger and had it firing at a non-mobile target and have a pet sitting there hitting that non-moving target and then they say: “That longbow ranger can do XXX damage in 1 minute, and wow their pet did XXX damage, that’s more than the thief so we need to reduce bow damage. There, it’s balanced!” Except, in the real world (pvp), no, no and no. Our projectile speed makes us miss 1/2 our shots, our pet is missing and running circles because the target is side stepping, or it’s just dead on a long cool down because of a bazillion AOEs blowing it up.

/sigh emo ranger is emo.

I don’t actually have kids by the way. But the rest… all true. Except the drinking… it’s 7:30 in the morning what do you think I am? An animal?

So last night I tried to pull myself up by my bootstraps, build a bridge and get over the SB nerf. I went on the auction house and emptied my bank account, bought a gold greatsword, gold warhorn and a gold 1 hand sword. Now I’ve tried all these weapons while leveling up and found them all lacking, but figured I’d give it another shot.

I respecced, loaded up greatsword/longbow and headed out into WvW. A big skirmish was occurring on the western field near our garrison in ET Borderlands. I joined the melee. I ran in and plinked an overextended JQ beef cake with Hunters Shot, swapped to sword and Swooped into him. Dropped Entangle, rooting him up and QZ’ed and started swinging away at him. I’m downed. What? He’s still at 60% health. He distractedly wanders around for a second engaging somebody else and melting their face. I try to use my downed skill 3 to get my pet to pick me up, it wanders over and takes a leak on my head but fails to rez me… the warrior wanders back over and lazily spikes me.

OK. Let’s give this 1 hander a shot! I rejoin the fight a few minutes later. Warhorn! Ah so cool! I’m runnin fast! Buffin my friends! Callin down birds! Time to get in and see how this sword does! We’re makin a push! They are retreating. I blow my horn for speed and get up behind the nearest runner! Swing and a miss. Wait. Why am I rooted? AH! Friggin sword auto attack! He’s getting away. Maybe my leap! Hit hornet sting and jump way back and then lunge forward to some random spot even further away from the guy. My pet is engaging a moa for some reason. Aaaand he’s gone.

OKAY! They are pushing back, let’s show um what a melee ranger can do! Big fight in front of our tower. Jump off wall screaming like I’m in Braveheart. Takin damage. Start smashing evade skills. I’m flying all over the screen. Don’t actually seem to be hitting anybody, but I’m dying slightly slower. Camera swinging wildly as I flail around with Serpant Strike and Monarch leap. My snow leopard pet is hanging out back in the tower somewhere licking his privates. Pretty sure none of my swings are connecting. Downed! Thief exploded me. He goes invis and stakes me. Not a dang thing I can do about it. Wow that must be nice.

The night went on like this. I got owned repeatedly. I admit I am newb with these weapons, JQ has 3 orbs, and I’m wearing mostly berserkers armor… but kitten #8230; this wasn’t the character I wanted to be. A squishy ranger like me has no place being in the thick of the WvW melee.

So now I’m feeling lost, sad and dejected. I think I will go play Borderlands 2 for a while, checking back occasionally to see if Jon has responded. Drinking heavily. Maybe I’ll beat my kids when they get home from school. I dunno…

I think they have a few major issues that they are likely prioritizing over the annoying, but not gamebreaking SB issue.

Game feels broken enough for me that I’m sitting here talking to you gents rather than playing it. Although I guess invisible WvW should take priority. Why not roll the entire poosandwich of a patch back and save everyone a lot of grief?

Wow, contrary to the title of that video (“GW2: Warriors so weak in WvW”) it just shows how over powered warriors really are. She walked into a sea of enemy players and killed most of them by herself, then ran of to the next group. Heck, she even had time to try res someone as a new large group of players started attacking her. The funniest bit in that video is when about what… 40+ enemy players charge her and she dies and then says that a warrior is so weak for not being able to kill 40+ players at once? lol.

Comparing what that warrior did to what rangers can do just made another bit of my hope for ranger improvements die.

I dont agree on pets. Pets are so dumb its terribad. I totally hate them in instances. On other side i have full geared war and ranger. I must say for just about anything my war is far far better. That kitten me off a lot coz i really like ranger class.

I was having this problem actually, but I found using ranged pets GREATLY improved my ability to stay alive, and my pets. Spiders and Devourers attack at a 900 range, which is good enough to not get hit by AoEs, and they do decent dps, Devourers also are armored as kitten, and tank better then bears imo! And spiders have loads of utility, Jungle spider I think has a instant f2 that makes it stun on its next attack for a huge 2 seconds, and it uses an immoble and a poison feild, all of which help the team outside of it being able to DPS at range..

I hoped ranged pets would be the answer for my pets exploding all over the place in PvP. My problem is the projectile speed is so insanely slow that if the target is not completely immobile, they automatically dodge it. If you’ve ever PvP’ed you know how rarely someone stands completely still… our pets need serious love. So do our weapons. So do our spirits. So do our trait lines. Oh, did I mention opening strike is still broken?

Yeah but Ele is still the king of WvW AOE damage, isn’t it? At least you have a role there. Ranger/thief was supposed to be the single target dps beast. Thief cuts the mustard for that role and they have tons of utility to boot. Ranger… zero utility except a borked pet mechanic, easily dodged projectiles, and now our only somewhat viable weapon is puke. I’m grumpy as you can tell, and yes, I would trade my broken ranger for pretty much any class other than necro.

I have to agree with everyone here. I’ve been a pretty huge fanboi up until this point, and I’m willing to give it a couple more days. But this is really making me not want to log in.

There never was graphical glitch until AFTER the patch. The damage reduction with QZ is severe enough to make the weapon feel worthless to me. And although I really wish I could just switch to great sword or longbow, those two weapons have been so badly neglected in damage output that I just can’t do it. Axe/horn is viable I guess, but I have no desire to use those weapons.

I’ve 1v1’d many classes and I can tell you Ranger’s shortbow was not OP in any way. The other weapons needed a boost so that we could have options, but to go this direction instead, is insane.

We need a Dev response ASAP. Was this intended or will it be reversed? And if so, how long is it gonna take?

They’ll never do “days off”. WvW is meant to be 24/7. 4 day matches would rotate the start day though, which I think would have a lot of potential benefits.

Title says it all. We’ve had the 1 day matches, they were too short obviously and didn’t give any value to upgrading. We’ve had the week long matches. I think the vast majority would agree that they are too long. All matches I’ve participated in/seen/heard of have been essentially decided by Tuesday or Wednesday and then WvW populations drop off sharply as people get “battle fatigue” and give up on games they know they have little to no chance of winning.

Bonus to this change would be that match restart day would rotate every time. This would take some of the current strength away from certain servers who get 5 nights of weeknight population imbalances. Sure, some matches they would have all weeknights, but others they would have to contend with mostly weekend prime time populations.

Slightly shorter matches would keep WvW more fresh and reduce the pain inflicted in mismatched games (such as the recurring situation in tier 2).

If i may make a tongue in cheek analogy, you guys are china, we are the united states. You wait in line for 4 hours for a bowl of rice, we drive through at mcdonalds. You beat us in an out-and out-war because you outnumber us 4 to 1. But in the end, where would you rather live?

If I was leading Titan, I’d be jumping ship from HoD to a low pop server and leaving the mass of scrubs like the op behind. Certainly the queues must suck, and the fact that they are winning through numbers alone now totally Is starting to overshadows TAs skills and accomplishments. The top tier server matching would be so much more fun and rewarding for all parties (including Titan) if they did this, and Titan could win or lose based on how good they are rather than how many newbs bandwagonned to their server in the first week.

Those poor HoD got screwed out of 12 gold… all that work and the keep lord was bugged. It was kinda funny, but I did feel bad for um.

Um well I think it’s been a badkitten match up. Constantly fighting both sides. Don’t know what you are talking about “truce”. Both sides target us simultaneously all the time. It’s a 3 way battle… it’s going to happen. Crying about makes you look foolish.

I guess. Are people really that thin skinned though? Maybe make it an option to either display or not display?

This may have been answered by ANet in the past, but I’ve never seen it. What’s the reasoning behind not showing enemy player names in WvW?

I think the benefits of showing names are enormous and I sure would like to see this changed.

Super-skilled players get to gain notoriety "That guy “____” is a beast! It took 4 of us to take him down!"

It also allows the community to police itself better. If players are using shady tactics or cheating, they can get called out on forums.

One of the best parts about nagafen/EQ2 world pvp was loving to hate our enemies and getting to know them pretty well over the years. That’s never going to happen in GW2 unless this changes and it makes me sad panda
