I worry about a new expansion now. The only choices are to wipe the slate clean and come up with something else besides Masteries or to expand on the much maligned Hot…
To OP, in reality, it’s not really needed. Everyone has different complaints, and you can join in or scroll past. I myself played for over a year before I even discovered the forum, as I didn’t have any complaints or worries till HoT came on the scene.
I have to say I am not surprised. The core game supported casual play and benefited greatly. Now with HoT it is a boring grind, and we all have our multiple sets of Ascended or Legendary gear, so any loot in the new maps are wothless. It’s hard to maintain a video game on 15million a quarter when a casual game like Pokemon Go makes 10 million a day…
But it’s another small map with a whole new map currency
Gliding or bouncing mushrooms, has gotten to be a one trick pony. Instead of used for targeted zones so that you can revel in the mastery, it is in use all the time, which imho, kills the enjoyment
Why I hated HoT and the mastery system.

I can only hope the next expansion expels the current mastery system. It is not fun at all..
Even though I’ve never played GW1, I thought I was up on the lore. I’ve been through the event that opens Lazaruis’s grave, only to not find him there. I was confused when the party members thought that the 2-bit minister of a human city was the source of the Bloodstone eruption and not Lazarus. I mean is not a name like Lazarus expected to have 2 lives? My main is a Charr, and maybe that is why Cadecaus seems like no threat whatsoever.

You can unlock a 10% XP boost in Bloodstone Fen, up to three times for a permanent 30% boost. Since Bloodstone Fen counts as a HoT map, I can’t help but wonder if this option is meant to help people grind mastery XP. I don’t know how efficient that would be compared to doing HoT maps, but without a big map meta, Bloodstone Fen is easier to jump in and out of.
+30% towards spirit shards could be useful, but it seems much more useful for masteries.
I will have to look at this, as I am in the same boat as Kaon. HoT has been a boring drag & grind to me and I loathe about every minute I’m in one of those maps.
Yea, I’m in the same boat as Gwilym and Odin, as I don’t care for HoT maps, or the grind for masteries. I way more enjoyed the base game and was brought in from a friend of mine due to the casual nature of the game. I bought four copies of HoT for me and other friends, not thinking it would be so radically different, and as much as I hate to say it. I will probably wait a year into the next expansion before I buy it.
In all honesty Odin, I agree with you. In my opinion, if you have HoT or the base game, then by virtue of logging in on during the window of opportunity, then yes you should have LS3 unlocked and all you need to play it. If your only F2P or you missed the window, then you should be able to buy the episodes off the gemstore and play, but that is not the route anet chose.
Thanks for the clarification Donari, much appreciated
Ok so a F2P or a base GW2 player couldnt even run it — gotcha! -- thanks Mort.
I am not a F2P GW2 player, but I don’t have many HoT masteries completed, just enough to finish the last LS, but can LS 3 be completed without needing HoT masteries? For instance, if a F2P player buys LS3 off the gemstore can they get through it without needing HoT masteries at all?
For now, I’m fine with just waiting for the game to get good again. I’ll keep checking in on any progress and when it is once again fun and not just a HoT mess, I’ll be back.
Well said Ohoni!
hahaha Ubi! Yea no telling what the future will actually bring
Yvw! Thanks for that post Sarnax. Yeah, I’m not sure how those titles would be attained. The way they are worded, they could be obtained through playstyle or through what sounds like, maybe from wearing leggie armors.
Totally agree Trinnity. For such a design change from core Tyria game, I think a large in-house beta test should have been attempted.
Sorry, but yep they were dead.
Too true Myrta! Almost same instance verbatim over here in a US guild. Even though we are in a large guild and two of us were Master Scribes before the April update, and our GH is long since finished, that grind as well took its toll on the members. Back before HoT, it was fun to hang out in TS as a guild and run together and knock out Fractals, Dungeons and PvP. Honestly, I can’t see HoT having successfully passed any dedicated beta testing, if indeed any was attempted, which I don’t think that was the case.

Yes, you can still get Twice Told Legendary, when I finished my second Moot and had both Moots equipped in either hand, all I had to do then to get the title was to check in with a npc in DR
Yea i tried it and the maps are still dead
As someone who actually purchased FOUR copies of HoT as soon as it was available. Two for great in-game friends and Two for my accounts so I could farm my home instance twice as much. The final product of HoT was highly disappointing. Now, 9 months in, of the four accounts, at best we log in for 10 mins a month. The highest mastery points obtained is 70, with the average around 33, as they are a boring grind. I took a break from HoT and just worked on another leggie back in Feb. to bring my tally up to 10 leggies, but even that wasnt enough to re-kindle any love of the game as it stands now.
Great posts Stihl
Yes Stihl, I agree, I wonder why anet didnt start with this wing (or an easier) first.
Well said Stihl
i’ve got all the Tyrian masteries done, and maybe half the points in HoT, but I am bored of chasing the HoT masteries down. And honestly I don’t feel like doing any more. I have been away from the game for a month now and havent missed it. If I return it’s prolly only to finish the 7 leggies that I have precursors for, or if somewhere down the line Anet sells an instant booster to 160
i dont like the mastery system at all to begin with, i’d rather take out the points and just make it an xp leveling device
If it is the easier wing of the 3, why couldn’t Anet have started with this one?
I too am afraid of more Hot stuff and less like the core game
+1 Ronnie Hu and Hardy
Yes Marius, that is why. —- Just curious Marius if you are taking into consideration that my idea is not to make it a gauranteed drop….
I know multiple levels of difficulty has been discussed. How does this idea sound to encourage everyone to give Raids a try:
Have the bosses drop an Insight Piece (takes 8 pieces to gain a whole insight) about 33% of the time each time it splits a phase…
Leggie armor is not all cosmetic. It has equal to the best stats in the game and can be stat swapped. Combine that with swapping stats on leggie weaps and you have a great combo. And yes a balance between difficulty and time, would be my preferred approach to obtaining the reward, in this case, imho…
Leggie Armor should be available in easy mode raids, done!
I agree that multiple modes for raids should be considered, and thank you Anet for for thinking about it. I always thought of GW2 as the mmo that tries to think outside the box of only just one way of getting something. Establishing an easier mode would give me more reasons to try it more than once a week and to stay in one a bit longer.
Actually HoT doesnt feel like end game content. Just seems to be half finished and full of mixed messages, what with the mini-mobile games and the gliding puzzles, I still feel like I am in SAB, and not taking on a dragon and its minions.
I honestly like your post flog, hahaha
No definitely not that severe! You are just looking for things to dislike about my post, and that’s fine
On this we will disagree red, when I am in the map, I wanna be free to chill out with friends on TS, and to pay more attention to chat that any loose npcs. Especially 2 vets parked right at the spot I need to be in order to jump to a mastery that is prolly gonna kill me anyways. In beta the masteries were alot easier to find and get to.
Yes I agree, it did not go far enough to nerf the maps in order to solo map complete them. Mordy is long since dead, its influence over the maps should be lessened now. Although I woulda hoped for fuller maps after the update, there still was no one around on the VB map at all…
Rytlock, Caithe and Zojja —- all the rest are forgettable
Nicely summed up Reaper

Old Tyria far and away!
Kudos to the team that designed the new Fractals, I love just about everything about them, so much so that I would like to see the Raid system implemented in the same way. With a lobby and with multiple tiers and branches.

And raids will still be progressively more and more difficult with tiered levels. GW2 doesn’t have to design raids just like competitors. It can bring a whole new freshness and brand to the idea of raids.

I am geared, not everyone is and i’m not willing to only accept fully geared just to play. Raids should be available and accessible to all to who paid to play the game

I don’t think the challenge of Raids needs to be this extreme at the beginning. After enjoying the Fractal changes for the past few weeks, I would like a similar system taken from the Fractals and adopted into the Raid system. Specifically in assigning levels to it, so that those of us more casual players can grind away at mid-tiers but the “elites” can grind up to top quickly and get their rewards much, much faster.
No exclusive reward should be “better” than obtainable elsewhere, just different…… Whether its from farming, or purchase or restricted or hard challenges.
