I know dodge gives invulnerability and that many professions have an ability (always on a non-trivial cooldown) that reflects or nullifies projectiles. That doesn’t mean I find them to be interesting or challenging from a tactical standpoint.

Gw2=/=other MMOs

there are ways to nullify damage, sometimes this requires group effort. Either learn how to play or continue to die repeately and “zerg” the bosses. If you want some help on some actual tactics I’m sure many people (myself included) can give you some pointers on how to play this game.

What about the people who let the Grenth event fail so they can retake the temple? are they “exploiting” because they didn’t try hard enough?

Yes, thats clearly “gaming” the system. I don’t think they will nerf things like that, but I wouldn’t play with people who did it. Its the same as Keep trading in WvW.

If you are gaining more gold/karma/token/badges than someone who is playing through the content normally than its an exploit. Its simple. Anet wants people who do content for the contents sake and at a normal pace to get the best rewards, not some grind one spot over and over non-sense.

I’ve crafted full exotic set by playing normally for a week and a half. Its possible, but people will always look for short cuts and Anet will close those short cuts.

“Combo fields are the least of a group of issues in dungeons let alone pve in general. the majority of people build their characters to be strictly dps looking for the highest numbers possible wether it be single target or a small aoe. Very few look into support for the group like regen, protection, retaliation, swiftness, condition removal. If they do take these into mindset its strictly for themself and not the group.
Its this mindset that I run my necro in dungeons ( dispite being unbalanced ) to apply 4 4sec protections, perma-regen, 2 heal over times and consistant condition removal along with the effects of poison, dark and light combo fields. all this while keeping a 50% crit rate, 105 dmg bleeding ticks x10-15,Blinding, crippling, vulnerability, 2 poison skills to keep it up constantly and the ability to do a small burst with well of suffering and life transfer with just over 20k hp, 2185 defense, 1700 might.
I could spec to do much more dmg but I sacrifice my dmg ability for healing and support to make up for others mindset of ZOMG I GOT TO BE TOP DPS.
Peaple really need to learn the meaning of teamwork.”

finally someone know how to play the game. If your not supporting allies while dpsing and controlling the mobs all at the same time… ur doin it wrong.

great read! nice work and thank you.

now if only we could do this in game than perhaps we could get a more realistic view on the actual player base.

Doesn’t WoW already do this with zone phasing? Once you complete a certain part of the story, the zone “changes” for that character forever. It can change multiple times, depending on how many layers are built in. So yeah, it can be done. Its just nobody but Blizzard knows how to do it.

LOTRO also has zones which feature phasing. Its not just WoW.

GW2 is Fun-Centric, not Reward-Centric

NEWSFLASH!

GW2 has a power plateau! its easy to get to. This was advertised many many many many times before release. Either get used to it or get out. It will not change, and us GW2 players do not want it to change. This game is different from most other games, its kinda why we like it.

Yes, and that’s fine, my main complaint, is that explorable mode dungeons, and jumping puzzles, and large scale meta events, reward paltry amounts of silver/copper.

I’m fine with the armor/weapons from explorable dungeons being no better than crafted pieces aside from looks. That’s fine.

The problem lies in 1 person wants a specific look, another person wants a different look, and another person doesn’t like any of the dungeon looks. Now how do you go about telling these people to run dungeons with you… it’s begging. They’ll run it for “fun” maybe once or twice, then they’ll be tired of it and will have to sludge through it for your sake for another 30 runs. That’s AWFUL design.

Make it worth their time too. Ideally, at least compensate more in game money. Ideally I believe there should be a daily explorable dungeon achievement that rewards 1 gold.

Would that be asking too much? Do 1 dungeon per day, get a gold, plus whatever drops in the dungeon. I think i could convince people easier to run dungeons if there was that.

This game is so tightfisted about awarding currency, the only real way to make money is to play the AH instead of playing the game.

GW1, yes, power traders still made the most money, but quests still gave decent money. Doing a DOA run you’d net about 50 platinum between quest reward and dropped gold.. Not counting the gemstones which you could sell to other players or save up for a handfull of runs (like 6) for an armbrace or tormented weapon which you could also sell to other players.

Here you run, get like 30s and get a bunch of SOULBOUND stuff that you can’t trade.

Unless you actually want the cosmetics for the weapon or armor, or need the gift for a legendary, or the sigil/rune, which, most of the time the sigils are terrible and the runes are not as good as runes you can get elsewhere…. dungeons aren’t worth running more than twice per path.

I totally agree with you. They need to add loadstones, ectos or some other desirable to the dungeon vendors so if you dont want the cosmetics you at least can spend your tokens on something. In general dungeons are to much of a grind right now and Anet has already said that they are changing that.

My post was not directed at people like you, but people who want fundamental changes to the core concepts of GW2. Of course they are going to tweak things.

"Token Grind is there for those that want it."

They said they’re adding tokens to the dungeon runs, Birdy, please stop trolling.

When, how much? How is it trolling? only 3 of the instances give you level 80 exotics anyway. its still a very limited PvE end-game.

I am not trolling, apologist.

thats false,

everything above TA gives 80 exotics. Also 80 exotics are crazy easy to get. U dont do dungeons to fill out exotics.

Thank you OP! We share the same love of fun. Me and my friends feel the exact same way you do.

Eventually the people who dislike this games philosophy will filter out. This same thing happened in gw1, people moaned for a few months then us serious players got down to business. Many players played gw1 for years and that game wasn’t even half of this game.

Lol, I use a gamepad as well. It make moving and attacking so much more comfortable. Although for PvP it kinda stinks, its so much more fun in PvE.

Your using the most defensive weapon sets. Mace/Focus is unkillable you literaly have 4 shields + 1 blind + regen of course you will never die. Switch to sword/torch and you health bar might move.

It has to be a pain, because you know it’s like the enemy stronghold or something

Anyway the great thing about the game is that you can travel to any map at the click of a button and have fun even on your level 80. If you get bored of Orr, then move! and come back when you want a bit of a challenge.

I like to see how many risen I can pull at a time. AoE them down and get phat loots.

I feel like Orr is one of the most interesting zones in the game, the above sea coral and undead theme is amazing. Its so atmospheric.

Also it would be lame if there were less enemies.

I’m a Rall player, and I have no idea what your talking about. Please don’t let the actions of a few paint our whole server in a bad light.

Even though we’ve been losing WvW has still remained fun. I can’t wait to duke it out some more!

I dunno man! I have met, at least 100 rall players, and not a single one was cool. This happens at all times of the day. I havent met a single cool rall player yet :<
My friend, who played WvWvW for 12 hours one day had this to say on the matter “I find it funny how the server named in memorial of that one guy who died has the highest concentration of kitten ive seen so far”

EDIT

I don’t understand the hate against Rall players either. I’ve had a blast this week going up against the endless horde of Fort Aspenwood. I’m sure there are a few unsavoury types on the server but doesn’t every server have a few?

Congratulations on a stellar victory this week Fort Aspenwoord. I’m guessing you will win by 300k by the time Friday comes around. Good Fight.

I mean, to try and explain it. Rall players just seem… exceptionally devoted to the cause of attacking other players. Even when winning is literately not possible for them. I’ve had rall players jump off a cliff, smack into the ground next to me with 25% hp, then their first thought is to attack me, even though im running away from their current direction. I obviously just turn around and 2 shot them because they’re at 25%. But still. This has happened more times that it really should… There’s also numerous packs of rall players groups of 3-5 who will pursue me literally across the entire map, to the point where ive led them into my teams nearest zerg because they’re just so singleminded for the kill. I’ve never seen a rall player not attack someone if they can. If the option is available to them they take it. The second a rall player has seen you he’ll drop what he’s doing (assuming its not fighting another human) and come after you, without even evaluating the situation in the slightest.

Normally it would just be ruthlessness, but the sheer abandon with which they do it comes off as kitteny rather than ruthless.

also meh. as part of the night crew im really not happy about the win. The best fighting is around midnight to 2 am EST. When our good players get on before the SF and Rall ones go to sleep. 2am-6am EST is just a stompfest. We have around double your players on every borderland and just run through your towers. I imagine day time would be more fun but I dont always get to play then ;__;

So you think we are jerks because some people on the server try and kill people in massive PvP? I’ve also had the experience of running from like 8 FA folks and them hunting me down (for like a 15 minute chase) and mercilessly slaughtering me. I thought it was all in good fun, not some plot to make my life miserable.

I think you would find plenty of friendly Rallites are just having fun. Please don’t generalize our whole server.

Coming from a fort aspenwood player here. And uh, we’re average. Literally rank 12 bang smack dab in the middle of the chart.

And honestly im very worried about next week.
Because based on the rankings I think it’s going to lump us against crystal desert. Who kicked ourkitten previous bracket (which is why we’re actually against SF and Rall who were below us (while they were next to us on the bracket, our previous matches had been vs maguuma, dragonbrand, crystal desert, Gates of madness, ETC)

My concern is that we’re honestly losing during the day time to these servers, and we’re most likely about to be sent against someone who will probably beat us during the day and night, sending us back down into lower brackets again. Essentially I think FA is about to be doing some ping-ponging, and I dont think our server population is going to survive it.

Also this is really just a side note. But for all you Rall players out there, why is everyone on your server such a … young feline… I cant count how many SF players ive met and spoken to (some transfer to spy, and then we chat) who were cool as all heck. But literally every rall player I meet is just a massive jerkface. (for those who’ve never faced them, imagine eredon terrace, but remove anyone cool youve met from there, and then make their server population worse by about 10 degrees, and youll have rall players)

I’m a Rall player, and I have no idea what your talking about. Please don’t let the actions of a few paint our whole server in a bad light.

wollie.9751

Hello fellow Tyrians!

I’ve been playing guardian almost exclusively since headstart and I thought I’d share a build I came up with that I have found both very adaptable and very powerful.

This is build is a little on the defensive side so if you’d like bigger damage it would be wise to look elsewhere although this build does decent damage while remaining durable.

Here is the build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fUAQJASRlcgyCXGSKEmIFRuA7DAETBGh/1DKmQGC

Now I’ll explain why I put my point where i did.

15 in radiance:
this is mainly to buff Justice. Now our justice aoe blinds, causes vuln., and resets when we kill something.

30 points in valor:
5% toughness to precision is good, and aegis @ 50% health is good but the reason we take 30 points here is to make us tanky, do more crit damage and… HEAL WHEN WE APPLY BOONS. This is so powerful because these heals stack. So we apply protection to the whole party, we get healed 5 times. And this build makes spamming boons a priority.

20 points in honor:
We put points here to allow us to apply might and vigor when we crit. This makes every crit heal us. We also get better healing and vit from this tree.

5 points in virtues:
boons attached to our virtues (this makes justice spamming even better).

This build does not tie you to any weapons so you can use the best weapon for the situation. I find I like the hammer for control and also applying aoe boons with the blast finisher, and a dps counterpart which does rapid hits (more crits) this can be either gs or sw/torch or anything really. We take hold the line for the boons and retreat because aegis and swiftness are great. Purging flames is always a solid choice.

for gear I focus on toughness and precision, with some healing, vitality, and power.

Anyway tell me what you think, and sorry for the wall of text!
