Well, I’m an idiot. Whatever the problem was pre-Win 8, afterwards, it was my video driver. I was about to run Game Advisor, and thought to see what version of drivers my GTX660M was running now. Win 8 hadn’t installed a driver for it when I upgraded, so it was using the stock driver. Evidently GW2 doesn’t like that at all! I doublechecked my Windows Update, and it had no updates available (although that was Metro Update, maybe the Desktop one would show different, if there is one. Not a fan of the split Settings in Win 8 ). I went to Nvidia and installed the drivers from there and now I’m back in the game.

Thanks for the responses. I’ve got an ASUS G75 gaming laptop, which definitely meets the specs. I’ll run Game Advisor and attach the results. I was able to run the game at launch fine. I hadn’t played in awhile, so something in between has caused the issue.

I had tried some of the steps in Amarinth’s post over the weekend. I’ll try again in the order specified.

This morning, I once again was able to download a small patch when I launched GW2, but then the 0 of 0kb dialog popped up, and I’m back in the same boat.

FYI, I have updated to Windows 8 over the weekend.

Every time I try to play the game, I get a Downloading 0 of 0kb dialog which minimizes, and then nothing happens. I have turned off AVG Virus Scanner and the Windows Firewall, and the same thing happens. I posted about this over the weekend, and my post was locked with a generic message about “login issues are being looked at.” It’s been so long since I’ve played the game, I can’t remember what came after the patch dialog. Is the login issue related to nothing happening once the game is patched? I have seen several posts about this on other sites, and it sounds like an issue that has popped up for some folks for quite awhile. None of the responses to these posts have helped.

I paid 80 bucks for the CE. I’ve given up on seeing the Halloween content, but I’d like to be able to play the game at some point in the future.

I haven’t played since launch weekend, when I had no problems getting into the game. I wanted to see the Halloween stuff, so I’ve tried to login this weekend. After having a patch download, I am continuously getting a Downloading 0 of 0kb dialog whenever I try to launch the game. The GW2 icon is in my taskbar, but nothing else happens. I can’t uninstall the game; nothing happens when I try. I tried redownloading the game yesterday, and it downloaded the 16gb of gw2.dat, but on launch, nothing happens. I’ve turned off Windows Firewall and AVG virus scanner. No joy.

This morning, there was a small patch downloaded, but then it went back to the 0 of 0 dialog, then nothing. What can I do to get into the game?
