I’m not sure if this pertains or has already been mentioned and I will try my best to describe what I’d like to see without getting…too emotional lol. I adore WvW and play whenever I am able. However, due to concerns about OP traits in PvP or problems with AI mechanics, certain classes are at a clear disadvantage comparable to others in WvW. This is a huge blow to motivation for many players of those classes to really dedicate to helping their servers in WvW in thinking that they can not contribute as much or as effectively as other classes. I am not even going to name classes, but I think we all are aware of the class imbalance issues which pertain in particular to WvW. If the devs feel the need to change class traits due to PvP, then for kitten’s sake (yes I actually typed that instead) make the changes affective ONLY for pvp and leave WvW and PvE out of it. Bring class balace to WvW so that all classes can feel they contribute to their servers. I think if this were to happen, not only would many others be more interested in playing WvW but increase in class diversity would certainly add flavor to the fights.

Another aspect I would like to point out would be incentive for healer classes. Healer classes in WvW do not get near the kudos or appreciation they should for the amount of help they bring to their servers. Could their not be some small way to show appreciation? Even in the form of achievements for healing in certain maps or occasions with usage of skills? Maybe receive “X” amount of badges for “X” amount of heals activated which actually healed (otherwise people would stand around spam healing like idiots for nothing). Maybe there could be some way. I’m sure the incredibly smart programmers could come up with something

Dear Santa Jon Peters,

All I want for Christmas is to be able to keep my healing Elementalist in WvW -which already has significant trouble surviving. Pleassssse do not move both Elemental attunement AND Cleansing Wave up in tier which would make it almost impossible to allocate points in order to be AS effective. Some of us, believe it or not, do not place emphasis on damage dealing. We do NOT get numerous wvw badges for our efforts as healers and very seldom do we get thanks. But at least we feel we contribute to the server and play an important role. So all I ask is that you keep us staff healers of WvW in the back of your mind before this patch becomes official. Thank you

funneh but true and unfortunately pathetic story…as a wvw lover I felt my ranger just couldn’t keep up and contribute enough so I though to myself…how can I be more useful in WvW? So I rolled a healer type Elementalist build. With this patch…yeh, now what? lol

I’m an adult. I’m not going to ragequit or whine about my disappointment in the ranger patch. But as an adult, I am making the decision to shelf my guild wars 2 game and move on to something else to play in the meantime. I simply can find more enjoyment with my freetime. My main in GW1 was ranger, I made my main here a ranger and I absolutely refuse to reroll and start all over as a warrior just to attempt to find that “ranger feel” for unbroken class play. Frankly, I’d be bored leveling another character.

I reached level 80 long ago, completed world map completion, and have been disappointed for a long time trying to stay motivated to play as a ranger in WvW which is pretty much end game for me. The bugs in WvW and the perpetual issues with the ranger class combined have not made this game fun as a level 80 char. I’ve always told others who take games too seriously or seem to get wrapped up in drama “If the game isn’t fun, don’t play it”. Games are made to be fun. So in lieu of that, I’m done with GW2 at this time. I’ll keep reading the forums from time to time hoping for these patch promises to come. I did have fun leveling in pve but that was over long ago…and if I divide the game costs by the months its been out my expense comes out to about $15 per month…same I would pay for P2P. So, I call it even…not great, but even.

This all reminds me of WAR’s shadow warrior, which was a far far inferior class, many QQ’ed it was terrible, it was poor compared to it’s opposite but could be devastating in the correct hands.

No disrespect, your post was both interesting and had valid points up until I read this last quoted section. I’ve played a ranger as my main in many games, mmo or other. I do not consider myself the best nor the worst. Never did I feel in those other games I had to play Godlike with elite skills in order to compensate for lack of diversity or to workaround the bugs in order to play on par with other classes. WHO wants to play a character like that? hmmm? Not very likely. People want to play the class the way it should be. No one wants to be known as “the ranger who can keep up because they play a broken class with godlike skills” If you play ranger so well, then playing the class as it is meant to be will serve to show your prowess even better, deservedly so

Good move, listening to your player base and also a right step in balancing out the issues in wvw while halting the hack issues Keep up the good work Anet!! Maybe the orbs will be able to return in the future or perhaps something else entirely, but at least everyone now has an incentive to fight back! WvW will certainly become more interesting and tactics will change!

I gave up due to lack of play time which I wanted to spend on other game activities Plus, I did try the tower but there were just too many people blocking my view and I couldn’t see where to jump. Hopefully it will return next year and maybe not so many people will be in my way lol, we’ll see. Regardless, it is a great event. It is a very challenging one and many will not be able to do it or just give up altogether but there are those who love a challenge and want more of this

Josh you should not be apologizing, you did something very RIGHT with the clock tower. You can’t or won’t appeal to everyone. In this case, you appealed to the hardcore gamers and indeed, it is hard to keep their interest and attention lol, you managed to do this with the tower by giving them challenging content. Those who can not do it or refuse to keep trying will just have to accept that they can’t do everything. Period. There are other activities to do. I may not ever be able to complete the tower…I absolutely hate jumping haha and have a sweaty palm issue just trying to tackle some vistas. But I appreciate the challenging game content nonetheless and love to see how other gamers will retain interest in playing GW2 due to variety and challenges. Keep it up!!!

Halloween Event Feedback

I loved the event and my thanks to all the hard working Anet personnel who strived to make it a success and fun for everyone. I loved the versatility of activities, the clock tower was more challenging than most and drew in the hardcore “gotta catch em all” crowd, there were two events which catered to the PvPer’s so they had fun too, then of course more relaxed events for casual players or dungeons for the crowd runners. So there was something for everyone! You gave us the devil horns and witches hat for free (with some hair clippage issues lol) and that’s MORE than we got in gw1 even. I think most people are so absorbed into getting rares and exotics that they forget to just have fun…

What I would improve: I admit in the beginning, I was one of those irritated with the chance ratio on the chests for the skins(which we had no idea of at first until some spent either a lot of money or all their gems). I agree they should be rare, but I do think at the very least the chances for winning one should have been declared prior to starting the event. I bought gems and unlocked more storage and stuff like that but did not buy into the gambling. Gambling IS a choice, but the odds should have been stated clearly, that’s all I’m saying. I was not pleased that the only way to get the permanent bow skin was to craft it unlike the others and there were not enough various types of skins for all the classes to enjoy. I also felt rushed…the event was full of wonderful activities and things to do, achievements to obtain and challenges and fun to be had…but packed into one week. Some people work lol and I myself was looking for a job and going on interviews so did not have a lot of time to join in. If the event had been spread out more over say a two week period, that would have been better in my opinion and would have given everyone a chance to either catch up or participate.

I would also like to suggest to add even MORE challenging criteria into future events. Clearly many loved the clock tower…some did not. It depends on who likes a challenge. Don’t go overboard and forget the casual, regular players like me though lol…I gave up on the tower because I felt rushed for time when I did get to play. Also, perhaps some repeatable events which would appeal to lower level characters. I know there are a lot of high level 80 players, but we forget sometimes how squishy and weak we felt as a lowbie haha.

I have an idea for an event actually…it can be pvp focus or pve, but the idea is to pair up a high level 80 with a low level character. The higher has to protect the lower. The lower would be given heals, boons or whatnot to try to keep the lvl 80 alive. If both survive, they would both receive a level equivalent reward, or karma or money, something. I just think it would help to make lowbies feel included and more useful in events as well as foster the community.

Here’s my opinion of it for what it’s worth (not much but indulge me lol). Those who would use such a method obviously can never admit to losing anything at all. If they have to resort to this so they feel better about never dying in a competitive environment…it’s just sad. They are quitters, which is far worse than losers. Some will lose, some will win and you can’t win all the time. They feel they’ve won if they Alt-F4. That’s not winning, that’s quitting. The other person still won, so what’s the point. You certainly don’t earn respect by doing so. At least those losing earn respect for trying and coming back to try again.

I am also impressed that you took the time and effort to communicate effectively your thoughts and feelings in English. It is a sign of great respect and a huge benefit for the server in showing that communication is key and possible in achieving our goals.

I have seen the dedication and determination of WM on the battlefield and you have my thanks. The Halloween event has impacted the numbers in WvW no doubt but that will pass soon. It is due to players not wishing to miss activities that occur only once a year.

I greatly admire the competitive spirit of SBI, the bonds of friendship forming, how we learn from each other and keep it fun. I thank WM, all the SBI guilds and the many guildless characters I’ve seen in WvW doing their best to make a fun game even better. Yes, there are game issues and bugs, but the game is still new and this new aspect of competitive gameplay is still evolving

BG clearing up a few concern

Go ahead, blame 2000+ people for hacking when one person did it and the rest of us all shake our heads at that one person.

Now being a BG commander you should know better than to lie…here are some quotes from your OWN thread on your own BG website forum in which you actually wind up condoning the orb hacking…your words…and people wonder why BG is losing respect.
So, after taking over ALL of JQ BL with Shokusha and a bunch of fellow alliance members, I had to go to work. So, while on my last moments before having to leave, I checked out the GW2 forums. Same QQ as always, all saying we’re hacking and using exploits (that I’ve only seen SBI and JQ use, might I add. Don’t know if our server truly does because I haven’t seen it).

I basically told them to stop crying (Surprised I never got any post deleted for that) and explained how we legitimately wiped all of JQ’s borderlands.

I go to work, and log in a few minutes ago. Saw my mailbox full (3 of the messages were bots)

http://imageshack.us...31/gw020wh.jpg/

http://imageshack.us.../99/gw021j.jpg/

So, I have an idea. Everytime you destroy one of their guildies, do /dance and /laugh on their corpses. Make them more mad so all these whiners send us this type of mail so we can report them which leads to them getting banned, that way next time we demolish “T1” servers, we won’t have to hear these QQers.

I have seen our server hack orbs twice since the new matchup, which is a shame. But we do also take back and defend orbs legitimately for the most part. It’s a shame that we have to keep waiting for ANet to put a stop to the hacking.

The idiot knows War Machine is Korean right? I bet Jang would be so proud…

Sad part is that their forum warriors is making it look like BG have had alot of these hacks. I´ve seen 2 confirmed hacks by BG, and 1 by SBI so far in this matchup.

I haven’t seen the hacks so I cannot comment on them, but if it’s only been twice, what is the big deal. 99% of this matchup we’ve fought legitimately and they still cry about “exploits” and “hacks”. We’re the better server, end of story. Last night we took ALL of JQ borderlands without any of the hacks and exploits they’ve been saying we do, and they still say we did them during that time.

I cannot wait until this week is over. I just hope SoS has some dignity. People can badmouth our server all they want. The FACT of the matter is we’re the best server in the NA rankings, and we’re currently demolishing the latter 2, and we’ve done it legitimately while SBCry and JQQ double team us constantly.

Punishing legit gem sellers?

Please realize that an increase in demand is only caused by more people demanding a service/good. It is independent of supply. What you wanted to say is that the lower supply creates a movement along the demand curve resulting in a higher equilibrium price.

’nomics nerd out.

how is it demand independent of supply? If it is truly a free economic model (which I now doubt) supply directly influences the demand. For example, in real life let’s say the diamond market. The supply is forcefully limited thus keeping demand for them high, and thus the price…My point here is that even though demand has increased for the gems and those buying are willing to pay a higher price, the price has not increased for those williing to sell, thus the gem sellers are getting shortchanged. Therefore my question remains, what is the incentive for gem sellers to sell knowing this? I majored in business, finance major actually so I know a bit about this also

The diamond market is a really bad example. The supply of diamonds is high. Very high. Demand is created through marketing designed to promote the idea of scarcity and inherent value, not any actual value.

The money offered to sellers has increased. The margin between the buy and sell price is a buffer to prevent short-term speculation from causing pricing bubbles.

Fine, bad example…but the point is the same….

a 39s margin is pretty high imo but oh well, just stating my reasons for changing my mind about selling gems…maybe they will keep the supply up anyway by direct involvement, I don’t know.

Ok, I’m trying to think of an incentive as to why currently anyone would supply gems to the market? Maybe desperation, but let’s take a look at it closer…currently demand for gems (converting gold to gems) 5 day high is at 1 gold 27 silver per 100 gems. Now, for anyone to sell gems, the supply value stands at 89 silver per 100 gems. Are we talking a gold sink of 38 silver here and a value loss to actual gem sellers? Does that seem fair? No…I had thought to maybe help my gold situation out a bit by selling some gems while the demand is high during Halloween…will that happen? No, not now. My incentive is now gone because I would feel cheated, not getting the value for my gems. Now to put in in another light, a guild member told me maybe its their way of combating gold sellers. Last I heard in chat spam, gold sellers were selling 100 gold for about $57 USD. I bought 4000 gems at $50 USD which would sell in game for about 24 gold. You do the math. Would I buy from them? Obviously not, I bought the gems and I’m careful about my credit card info online. But again, we are talking incentive here. The gold spammers will continue to sell as long as they know people will demand their services and pay money. Moreover, the system of supply and demand only works when both exists, without supply demand skyrockets…but their needs to be incentive to provide that supply, a fair incentive and not a feeling of paying some huge tax to the gold sink gods. Just my two cents from an actual gem buyer.

money aside, have you seen the recipes for crafting the weapon skin items? it’s akin to farming for a legendary in …how long is this event? 5 days? yeh…I’d say that’s a bit discouraging for many, like those who can’t play a game 24/7 not mention very unrealistic for any low levelers to achieve. I can see making some things hard to achieve…yeh, ok, cool and fun for the hardcore and long term gamers. But I’m just saying that the casual gamer or beginner doesn’t stand a chance unless they fork out the big $$$, that is not the philosophy or vision which Mike O’Brien had in mind for GW2 if you had read the two articles I linked. Are those who fork out the money entitled to something? You say no…I say at the very least they should have clearly made the rates or chances known prior to selling…as in one of the articles above “clearly knowing what’s in bounds and what’s out of bounds” in regards to microtransactions. OK, enough about this. There will be those who agree and those who don’t, that’s not the point I’m stating. I’m stating this fiasco was never in the vision (or at least publicly known vision) for GW2.

And you are apparently forgetting the Halloween events in GW1…the items were fun, easy to get for everyone to enjoy regardless of level, not rare and it was a hoot. WHY does everything HAVE to be about rare or exotic? WHY can’t a Halloween event just be fun and everyone, low level or high, rich or poor, lucky or unlucky, have the chance to get something to remember and keep. Who cares if everyone has the same thing, at least people were able to get one. And many who played GW1 actually looked forward to pulling out that same item and wearing it the following year!!! I can see why so many are disappointed. Yes, they have a right to complain. Did they have to spend the money on gems? No. Of course not. But were they misled? I would say so.

I propose the people with massive transmutation stones make them, transmute them to other items and flood the TP with them so everyone gets a chance to obtain the skins lol. Halloween is supposed to be FUN…not something most people would rather avoid. I remember in GW1 how excited I would get to see the new hats and items that pretty much everyone had a chance to obtain with just participating in some SIMPLE quests or events. As long as they had FUN, they had a chance to get some cools things. Can we please go back to this model? xD

Just want to remind some people throwing around the “just buy it off the TP” solution. You may be at the point where 8-10 gold or more is nothing to you, but to those just starting the game they struggle to get their first gold at all. Can you remember this at all? Their chances to get anything from chests or the ability to buy off the TP are now drastically reduced in comparison. I think ANET should also keep this in mind.

Ranger...thought this class would have improved by now

sororsrca.1239

I’ve been playing ranger as main since the game started. I’ve played ranger in many other games so am not new to ranger mechanics or how to play one. This game, by far, has been the most disappointing ranger experience for me to date. Rangers seem to do the lowest damage in comparison to other classes as well as be among the slowest. And of course the pet situation….I’m sick and tired of hearing that our damage takes into account having pets, so we shouldn’t complain. BUT>>> again, it must be stated that pets are not capable of attacking moving targets, the commands still do not work as they should, they are still far too squishy, they aggro everything in sight. I can hit my speed spell with my warhorn but STILL get slowed down simply because my pet is being attacked or attacking something behind me…I mean COME ON, the list is ridiculous here. I LOVE playing ranger classes, its why I started mine as main, still play it mostly regardless of its kittenness and I’ve actually had to learn to play it even better due to the kittened characteristics. But that doesn’t make it OK, just because I learned to play it better and deal with the problems should I have to accept them? No…I want to play the ranger as it should be….effective and up to par with other classes. I shouldnt feel as if my ranger isn’t keeping up with damage or running with groups. I’ve been reading and hearing the same complaints from the beginning, including the SB nerf which happened to be our only decent dps choice for weapon. I know there will be some replying and refuting these same complaints which have been around since the beginning. To them I say kudos to you for playing a kittened class and accepting to play it as it is, but for those of us who wish to play the ranger without the ridiculous issues so many have mentioned its not fair to ask us to accept to play a broken class. I played ranger in GW1, played ranger in many other MMOs and RPGs, hell I even play FPS games so I’m not unfamiliar at all with how a ranged character should be played. Is there one thing in the game as it stands right now that the ranger excels at? Can anyone honestly say that the ranger class is on par with other classes taking into consideration the poor pet command system and pets inability to deal damage to moving targets? My arrows can’t even hit moving targets for crying out loud, and my pets simply chase them around confused aggroing everything in its path…

I’ve been using a Murrelow which has the f2 poison aoe gas effect and a Polar bear which has a bleeding f2 effect…both have stats in the highest category of vit for pets. Also, I have maxed BM and use the skill trait (which is unlocked at max) for pets to regenerate their own health= good tanking ability. I rarely ever have to activate my health simply to heal my pet now, just in heavy mob zergs or big boss fights. I have statted some into power as well in order to increase my own damage, including accounting for gear stats. I’ve also taken skills which increase my pet’s damage and survivability.

So far…I love that!!! But, I have noticed that both types will often ignore the f2 activation as I mash it repeatedly. Moreover, at times I’ve been trying to click on the skill itself in an attempt to get it to work and find myself actually missing and clicking next to it which sets the pet into passive mode lol, so it will be sitting there not attacking anything at all until I figure out that’s what happened.

agreed

I’m a norn ranger too. I have actually fully maxed my BM traits and use my pets regardless of some annoying issues I have with them such as their tendency to aggro everything in sight, standing too far away from me, or how I will jump off a cliff and my pet will take the long way around aggroing every mob and bringing to me ending in my death. I can stow my pet but as soon as I get hit by anything it will come back out whether I wish it to or not, difficulty in manual usage of pet skill, long time outs for pet swaps, name pet resetting, etc…… Moreover, I have noticed that my elite skill where the spirit is supposed to rez and heal allies in the area does not seem to work as described, so it seems a total waste of skillpoints and a wasted elite skill. I love using my pet as a ranger, don’t get me wrong…but some serious issues need to be addressed which is making gameplay very annoying.
