Even 1FPS @ lowest on 640×480 is still playing. By definition, minimum makes no promise on framerate, quality, or happiness, it strictly means “it will play”. Whether the bar was set too low for GW2 is a whole other debate.
The few that are above minimum and can’t load or have crashing issues are, from what I see, related to drivers/heat/BIOS/faulty hardware.
Well, I’m above minimum, even if it’s not by a ton…I’m running a Core 2 Quad, which is just above. I’m certain that my hardware isn’t faulty, and my drivers are up to date. Temps fine, BIOS is up to date.
The debate about whether the bar was set too low NEEDS to happen, as it is akin to false advertising. The idea that anyone would be interested in the game “just turning on” is, from a business standpoint, asinine.
Well, I’m currently running around Lions Arch on a 1.8Ghz C2D Dual core which is UNDER minimum requirements @ 10-20fps. Game is still VERY playable so either you’ve got issues with your system or your settings are to high.
I’m not lying about my settings, they’re all bottomed out. And I’m fairly certain that I don’t have any issues with my system.

@spyridon
I think what Anet forgot to mention is what resolution suppose to be on that minimum. You can probably get atleast 30 fps if you play on 1024×768 up to 1366 × 766 with the lowest setting, higher resolution tends to tax the CPU and GPU a lot.
I’ve tried at 1280×1024, 1024×768, and window. None work at all…

@Cbuzz: thing is, Rift and SWTOR (and pretty much every game period) had recommended specs listed along with the minimum. The people that were legit above-the-recommended had a reason to complain. ANet and GW2 only have minimum, and people are confusing this for meaning the same as recommended.
I personally never assumed that minimum was recommended. But it seems that there are people above the minimum who cannot play at all. Not sub-par graphics, not less FPS…just completely unplayable.
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the input. I think for now that I’ll hold off on the OC, and see what happens with ANet.
Also, can we not fight? C’mon guys, we’re all just trying to play the game here.
Real men overclock…
Thanks, erm, for the input…?
No prob, hope it helped.
It didn’t, in fact. Also, I can’t even begin to imagine why you’re giving me an attitude. Maybe you should lose it and try to help instead of mouthing off.

I really don’t understand this mentality that people should be “far beyond” the minimum specs. I think there’s an argument to be made that you should be able to run the game on minimum specs. Low quality graphics, no shadows/particle effects/etc. really should let you play with at least 30FPS.

Thank you both. I wouldn’t attempt it without much more research…I’ve researched it just enough to know it’s not something to fool with lightly.
I’m not really sure what the problem is. I can run WoW and Mass Effect 3 on Fair to Good with no FPS issues at all, and while my PC isn’t great, it’s certainly above the minimum requirements. I would expect that, even if you just meet the minimums, you should be able to play on low quality with no effects at least at 30FPS…
Hey all. I’m running the following:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz w/Thermaltake MaxOrb Gaming Fan
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800 G. Skill High Performance
GPU: EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti 2GB
MOBO: MSI P6N SLI-F
PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower 700W
Like many, I’m having crippling FPS issues (and since I just got the game this weekend, I’ve yet to actually get through the opening chapter). I know that ANet is working on this, but I thought I’d ask…would it be worth it to overclock my CPU to 3Ghz? I’ve never overclocked my CPU before, only an older Nvidia GeForce 8800 (which was admittedly easy due to the Nvidia overclock tool).
Should I even attempt it, or just wait it out and see?
PS I attached that report from the utility ANet provides, don’t know if it will help.
Thanks in advance.
Yeah, I saw multiple posts that listed problems with the 550Ti and the Core 2 Quad, which seems ridiculous when they’re above the minimum requirements.
Well, I’m new to PC gaming (haven’t played games on PCs since Curse of Monkey Island), and my rig runs really well. I can’t justify upgrading my CPU, which will probably mean a new mobo and new RAM and such, just for a game…is this the kind of thing MMO developers work on, or am I just out of luck? Like I said, this is my first MMO, most of my gaming is on PS3.
Zaxan, thanks for the reply. I ran Driver Detective, Intel’s autocheck, and GeForce’s autocheck (which did update the GPU driver). I’m in the Nvidia control panel now…I selected GW2. Should it be overriding, or not? And if so/not, how do I make sure it’s correct? Sorry for being such an idiot with this stuff.
Also, I meant to mention, the FPS was at about 4-10 when I checked. I changed all settings to lowest.
I just got GW2 this morning after reading great reviews of it. My PC’s not a screamer, but it’s not bad…I can run WoW and Diablo 3 at fair to good settings with no issues. But for some reason, I can’t even get through the first five minutes of gameplay without GW2 becoming unplayable.
My specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
4GB G.Skill High Performance Memory
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz
EVGA GeForce GTX 550Ti 2GB
I’m on Comcast cable internet. Connection is normally great, dls fast.
I’m new to MMOs; this is my first one, really (my wife plays WoW, I just helped her set it up to run). And I’ve checked all the drivers; I think my keyboard might not have the latest, but everything else was up to date. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
