Destroyed their usefulness?? If it was usefull to you, you would have been using it and it would have been soulbound/ accountbound already. No, you were speculating on the items becoming something more expensive due to the change and it didn’kittens not the games fault that you failed to put in the research in the items you were flipping.

Nobody is necessarily speculating. If you bought something from a buy order and list it as the lowest sell order, your only speculations are that the market doesn’t collapse, and that if it does, inflation will eventually push the value of the item above your selling price. This makes it an investment, not a speculation, especially when inflation is so steep.

When a magic voice from the sky proclaimed that these items were no longer tradeable, it destroyed a market in a way that goes beyond “playing” the market to predict a collapse due to a shift in supply and demand. What we got with Arenanet’s handling of MF is equivalent to the governments of the word unanimously stating that a certain good can no longer ever leave the warehouse as of 4 days from now. If you have lots of this particular good sitting in your warehouse waiting to be sold you will try to scramble to sell in 4 days. If your items are in low demand (such as level 62-78 exotics) then you might as well just melt them down and sell the warehouse.

People play the trading post like any other part of the game. Playing the trading post doesn’t mean you were speculating on anything this side of divine intervention on the market. No research you could do before the announcement could save you from this, and the announcement was some 4 days before the change was made.

Better, Arenanet states that certain high-end items will remain tradeable, making everything completely ambiguous. Better yet, they don’t know how to, or think to, use their database to refund the listing fees.

The moral of the story is that you can’t make tradeable items become not tradeable.

At this moment SoS is running around EB capping everything with a zerg of 40 maybe? DB is done, YB has 2 (read: “two”) defenders. Competition at it’s finest. Normally we’d have more at this time even on a Sunday night, but nobody wants to play against this. I can’t believe that this setup is fun for anybody, including the mighty night zerg which has nobody to fight besides guards.

SoS wiping YB off the map during the night looks something like this:
A dozen YB defenders building/manning siege in a keep. SoS breaks in the outer gate, gets immediately wiped by defenders in inner (YB never knows exactly how many SoS there are due to culling). SoS comes back, tries to build catapults to get past inner, and gets wiped again, and same thing once more. SoS then decides to stay back and treb a wall down. After a while, YB defenders have fallen asleep waiting, counting badges like sheep.

People being able to conveniently and instantly sell their inventories to the highest buy order for each item? I could go for that.
