There are three possibilities:

  • ANet already plans to add this feature Tuesday (or shortly afterward). They didn’t mention it yet, as to avoid distracting from the main announcement that legendary armor arrives with the next patch.
  • It turns out the feature is more complicated (for some reason) for weapons and it’s not yet ready. Since ANet doesn’t announce features without a shipping date, they haven’t said anything.
  • It never occurred to ANet that players would want this functionality for weapons, despite all the posts about it for over four years.

Which do you think is more likely?

The second option seems to be the reason, but I hope for the first, the last one I do not think it would be because Anet makes many changes always looking at the quality of life and practicality so I think this mechanic has already crossed their minds

“When you apply an upgrade (rune or infusion) to a piece of legendary armor and there is already an upgrade in the slot you have selected, the existing upgrade will be moved to your inventory and the new upgrade will replace it. Simple as that.”

we need this mechanic for legendary weapons too.

If I have the legendary armor I can change it to any build just by putting the runes and swapping the stats, but I can not do the same with a legendary weapon that works with 2 builds I will have to have 2 of the same weapon for different builds only Because the weapon does not have the same mechanics as the armor to replace the upgrade without destroying it.

What do you guys think about it?
