I’m on a mac book pro, and disconnecting the power cable while the game loaded and i selected my character worked for me too.
Precisely the same issue here. I’m on OSX 10.8.4 and have been trying to buy gems since Saturday. Doesn’t matter whether I’m using CC or Paypal, it always gives me an error message.
