Ta daaa , couple it with server only city maps, I’d have my play style back, and with such a flagging system, I’d have good chances also to meet other of my servers, english speaking roleplayers, outside where the megaserver like to mix and match others.

I hope this help to clarify some of the issues we are experiencing in a clear and polite manner for Arenanet to see, and hopefully, take into consideration.

Seeing we got a bit of a.. non really satisfactory answer on the Megaserver and RP thread, and fearing that if is not stated here, might not be taken into consideration, I’ll try to explode a bit the reason why there is a thread with 500 and more posts about that specific problem.

Arenanet answer was “Guild up” but, that, right now, dosen’t really solve the issue, as I stated in the other post yesterday, we were in the same guild, we were even in the same party, but one of ours could not meet us when Metrica was assimilated in the megaserver, we had to jump several times to make it happen.

Now, even if you could just go around with your guildies, there is a reason on why many roleplayers wish for the cities to remain outside the megaserver system.
Some RP guilds are structured as Adventurers guilds, in such guilds, there is a wide range of different characters, they can usually self sustain themselves , even if they also benefit from contacts with others RP guilds.
In the cities some guilds like to play specialized roles, some guilds play the guards, some play the thieves, some play the everyday Joes , the farmer, the merchant, some guilds are merchant, in the RP side of things.

Is the combinations of interactions between such guilds, between all RP guilds, that create the environment necessary for RP to go ahead. If the guards suddenly find themselves without other guilds to interact with, there isn’t much they can do in the long run.

That’s why most people in the other Thread are asking to return the cities to the previous state, would be next to impossible for roleplayers to carry on when people is fragmented among all the servers.

Most big events are planned ones, involve tens of characters, it is done usually to get ahead an important plot, or start one, or just gather like minded roleplayers in a place.
What came to mind is the weekly meeting of Asuran in Rata Sum, it was made so that who play an Asura had one day at week in which was sure to be able to interact with others that play their favorite race.
In the current megaserver system isn’t possible, first you would end up scattered in different server, and second, there is people that don’t like RP.

Trolls apart, which would disturb mostly anything just for the sake of it, there is people that genuinely does not like see other people RP, yesterday in Metrica I was very politely asked to please stop to RP.
It wasn’t a troll, I wasn’t attacked or insulted, I was very politely asked to stop my RP because it was disturbing that person.
It was just three Asura talking about the end of a project they have been working on, so it wasn’t anything strong or strange, but I do understand some people really really would prefer to have a world without RPers, because they are wierded out, they have their own ideas, simply don’t like it and prefer the only ambiance around is provided by NPC.

As much that specific encounter ended up well, explaining that, as RPers, we didn’t have anymore a safe heaven, so we couldn’t “Choose” where to RP, and the other person kindly agreed with us and wished us good luck and have fun with our RP, it is a symptom on why RPrs congregate in one or two servers, not only to meet like minded people, not only to counter trolls (you can troll all the time you want, if you are five against 40 and everybody is ignoring you, feel free to do whatever, you are just filtered out) but also, people that really really really really don’t like to see other RP, but are not trolls, can choose to avoid such servers.

Now that I am thrown in a situation in which I don’t have a single place where to meet other like minded people and play the way I want, what should I do? Force my play style on others? Explain every single time that, as much as I respect their view, they should respect mine? It is possible to find a middle ground with tens of thousands and more different people? (No, it isn’t really, other places and other times have already shown that with that many people involved, you really can’t).

So what’s the point of the other thread, minus vent some frustration?

Put out the city maps from the megaservers, we could have our heavens to RP.
Second thing, put an RP flag so the system know how to put people togheter.

I am not privy of the inner workings of your server, but should I have done something like that, the first parameters I would have used to pair people is “Language” the second would have been “Server of origin”.
Now, should you put as third parameter, over all the others a flag with “RP” the system would have a clear idea where to put me.

“English” – “Piken Square” – “Roleplayer”

Dear ArenaNet,

Thank you for making Guild Wars 2. It has been a source of enjoyment to many, many people.

I am deeply concerned with the diminished roleplay aspects that this update has brought to the game.

As suggested before, please give us a roleplay checkbox somewhere and consider it when balancing us.

It seems to fix so much:

  • People who want to RP, and who want to see others doing so, get balanced to places where other people have opted for the same thing.
  • People who don’t roleplay, but who enjoy reading it, also tick the checkbox to be balanced accordingly.
  • People who hate it and don’t want to see it simply don’t opt in.
  • People who don’t care simply don’t opt in.

Roleplay is the only reason I picked Tarnished Coast when I first started playing. Before I ever bought the game, I did research to see where the roleplayers were. I saw that my best luck was on Tarnished Coast, so that’s where I signed up.

Me picking Tarnished Coast was me clicking the Roleplay checkbox. Okay?

That was me opting in.

Please don’t take this away from me.

Please tell me you understand this complaint.

On top of that I’d add,

- keep the main city maps out of the megaserver.

For those that don’t RP , will work a bit like lobbies, for those of us who RP, will make sure we’ll surely find others that DO wish to RP.

A filter as suggested, plus giving back the city maps to their own servers would fix most of not any problem we have encountered with this change.

As was stated, I did chose a specific server, Piken Square because it was the unofficial RP server, it was a precise choice, a choice now I am left without, having no choice in what should be a fun activity, is not very good.

Great.. no really great job Arenanet, thank you, I really needed for you to destroy any vestigial possibility of RP around, SUREEEE I can RP with the member of my guild, SUUURE because there was not totally chance of RPing with strangers before, of course.

Wasn’t possible to leave at least the main cities map out of this megaserver clusterkitten, no , everything had to be a megaserver, because god forbid I don’t see 600000 strangers running around in the city destroying any vestigial possibility of RP.

There were a couple of RP unofficial servers because so people could gather around, now no, I have 4506606040 people form other servers running around the main cities , but I can’t find the people of my own server…

I understand we RPers are a small portion of the total customers you have, but you really had to give the coup de grace to this community too?

I honestly think there is a simple solution to help keep the RPrs, like me, happy, and the non RPers.
Leave the city maps as they are, apply the megaservers to the rest.
In this way, most of the RP will continue as usual, maybe some problem for the RP outside, but at least one would know that in the city maps of the RP servers, you will remain with the actual situation.

A good part of the usual RP guild or casual encounter do happen in the cities.

The only use non RPers have for the cities, apart enjoy the beautifully crafted cities, is to use the crafting facilities, don’t think for such people would make a difference to be in an overflow map, or the same map, or whatever, as long you can easily access the facilities and services you need.

Nobody would be forced to to be exposed to roleplay, because the roleplayers would remain in their specific servers, rest of the maps work in the megaserver system.

I understand they can decide what maps are effected by the megaserver system, seeing they decided to experiment first on a small part of the maps, so I guess would be within the system capability to exclude the city maps from it.

Everybody mostly happy.

Kindof dangerous to have nothing for 10days

i am not really overly worried. Every time a new game cames around is always ‘the best game ever’. That is untill people start to seriously play iy, for months, then they start to see the not so shining parts.
Everything is ‘the best thing ever’ when is fresh and new. How it will really go will be seen during the live game some months down the road. Some people will stick to it, some others will dislike it. Also I don’t think arenanet will just remain on the side watching, they will impkement new things to keep people from leaving. All in all is a wait and see, and if the competition improve the game wuality we have only to gain from it.

How Long Until LA is Back?

If it came back as city, I like some of the options presented here. I hope itcame back a very different city, the scars of the attack should be evident, mayebe some of the pieces of the drill were too costly to remove and remain embedded where they are now, people just build around them. The huge hole in the bay remain, the odd ship house still standing remain there, as the mill, but the new constructions are different.
I really hope lion’s arch is changed forever, they already did an awesome work implementing the city in ruins, I really have faith they will do something awesome with this opportunity!

Awesome.

Well I don’t know how to put it, but usually MMOs are pretty static places, some in the past did something similar, but this is the first time I was fully involved in something that really change an important location. And as silly at it sounds, I do feel now Lion’s Arch is a bit more “Mine” than it was before. Before it was a cool city in a cool game, now it is slightly more personal, I have seen it burning through the eyes of my character, we went around seeking refugees and helping them escape, then we battled in it, then now we can see it lay in ruins after the aftermath .

I know it does sound silly, but it make the place more alive for me, more “Real” and if the scars of the battles will show in a new Lion Arch, or if it remain in ruins, I can really say that the Living Story is very.. alive.

Awesome.

I didn’t expect to find LA in ruins, I mean , I hoped we would get a true aftermath of the battle , but this exceed my expectations, is awesome, I feel like my character really lived through a huge battle, now she stand silent looking over the ruined city, the pieces of the airship blast embedded in the ground, the huge hole where the drill cracked the earth..

Awesome, incredible, I love it. Good job!

Wow… I LOVED it! Thank you arenanet! I am very happy I was able to play out the story through it’s end.

The whole event and fights where interesting and, for me, funny, i am sorry to see Scarlet go, I liked her, apparent madness and all.

The kiss did bring a smile to my lips, finally, and the ending cinematic.. Wow.. Loved it.

Thanks for this story, really waiting to see what will happen next!

Authenticator bug [Merged]

I would greatly prefer to input the code myself, the reason i put on the authenticator is because somebody tried to log in with my account , so honestly i don’t feel protected unless i am the one to input the code every time, for remote it is as possibility with the new settings, it DO remove part of the control I have on protecting my account.
I am of course paranoid, but if you could allow people to decide if they prefer input the code manually i would feel way more comfortable in playing this game.
From where i log in, the IP is shared by more the a single system, as nearly impossible as it is, if one of the users decide to brute force my password would have a full access to my account, seeing the system would not see a change in IP.
The authenticator is meant to be a last line of defense when your password is gone and your username have been discovered, by removing the code input by the users, you removed the very reason of this defense system existence.
