The major thing for me is the rapid zooming in and zooming out that is extremely awkward. I mean I can understand the camera moving in because of walls and major set pieces like boulders and whatnot. Most of the time, however, it ends up zooming in because I walked past some bump in the ground geometry, or a twig, or a table. Using the camera in CM is a nightmare with all those tight corridors and objects in the scenery. It’s just jumping in and out over and over as I move past the stairways, doorways, and the clutter of objects in each room.
They definitely need to make the camera stick to much less of the objects in the environment, and zoom back out at a steady pace instead of just jumping back out to the first position.
Also this is a minor thing, but don’t make the camera immediately jump to the character as you move the camera to look up. One feature that make’s the camera of World of Warcraft work is that you can look up and around without getting a big fat view of the character’s head. They have a zone where you can move the camera up and it will not move in closer to the character until you move past that zone. Something like 0-45 degrees below horizontal, and the camera would still keep it’s original distance from your character. Guild Wars 2 needs this, especially since so much of the environment art is up above and all around the characters.
Of course I don’t really know as much about it as the original poster, but I do know if it’s been done before it can be done right here. The game is amazing otherwise and I do hope this gets fixed.
