I just started playing again and realize that magic find is gone and was replaced with luckittenep getting all these different consumables with luck, but not sure what happens when I click on them. Are they permanent? Exactly how do they work? What do they affect?

Feel Guilty When Playing a Phantasm Mesmer?

I am fairly new to the game and just hit 80 yesterday. I have been mostly trying to pick builds based on surviving. I have liked the staff and sword torch, just because there are so many defensive options on these. Mostly I just run around in circles with the staff and clones, just slowly burning down the mobs. It works but seems slow. Now that I am trying out Cursed Shore, the time it takes to kill a mob is becoming obvious, and dangerous.

I just read up on the phantasm build by Skoteinos in the build sticky, but am curious to what others are using. It seems to be glass cannon. What other options weapon wise work for a phantasm build? Dodge clones seem great for staying alive, but the damage seems so small.

build based on weapon boosts?

Does any one make their spec based on building around the weapons used. For instance I use staff and sword/torch right now and I notice that there are traits for each of those weapons. 20% faster skills across the board seems pretty nice. Also, it doesn’t seem like any of the grand master traits are all that great so I wouldn’t be giving up anything.

You don’t HAVE to do the hearts, but as far as I can tell, they are the single best experience boost for any new player. Discovering each area (completing the map) and doing the quests is a massive amount of experience compared to just killing things.

The personal story is a a really cool part of the game. It adds lots of color and fun, but it isn’t really the way you level, it’s just an additional part, granted it does give good experience and rewards.

I don’t know much about how not to use a mouse in just about any game. Handica kitten ue? Maybe that is something that needs to be addressed by game developers.

As far as level 20 using level 1-5 gear, that is an easy problem to fix. From what Iv’e seen so far, crafting doesn’t really keep you in gear at lower levels, it looks like it’s something to do as you go along but doesn’t really pay off till max level. Whenever you complete a “heart” area, go to the NPC and he will have items for sale that you buy with karma(you got karma for completing the event), not cash. This will keep you reasonably well equipped. Every 5 levels or so go to the auction house/trading company and spend you copper on new gear upgrades. My max level character is 40 but I still get decent upgrades for about a silver a slot item, that’s pretty cheap. Again, I don’t see crafting as keeping up with gear as you level unless you gather a LOT.

How to play a Mesmer in PvE and like it?

I am liking the mesmer but I am finding it difficult as well. It’s my first class and only level 20 so maybe it wasn’t the easiest choice to start with. I have read a lot on what weapons to use and what skills, so even though am getting the hang of it with sort of a “rotation”, it sure seems I kill things slowly compared to some of the other classes I have run up against.

My main weapon seems to be the staff and secondary set is sword pistol at the moment. I am mostly trying to kite around till I get 3 clones up and then shatter. My problem is that kiting isn’t really that easy in this game, there are lots of tight quarters and I almost always pick up adds. It can be hard to get 3 clones alive to shatter. If I picked up a ranged add, that’s when I usually start to really get hurt.

If I have Chaos Storm up I can usually kill a mob on the first round of clones, but it has a long cooldown and when it’s down it takes 2-3 times as long to kill, which increases the chance I will pick up adds. What is disheartening is to see a warrior run in and kill a mob in less time than it takes me to even get a couple of clones up.

I know from the forums that the mesmer is a late bloomer. I am in it for the long haul, and I am having fun with it. I just wish it was a little less frustrating in tight areas. I have played a few lower level classes and have mostly found them boring compared to the mesmer so I am trusting that by level 40 things will start to roll. I am just one of those people that hates dying in mmo’s, it just feels like losing.

Why are players swarming low level areas?

I just started the game as I was waiting for the price to drop. I just assumed there would be lots of new players because of this.
