Black Screen Issues [merged]

I’m now having this problem, suddenly, as of this morning. The client has worked perfectly with almost no crashes since launch, over 1300 hours of play. My problem is NOT that the game launches and then a black screen happens after some time – instead, mine will allow me to log in and hit play in the launcher, but loads to a black screen with no music/graphics that’s listed as Not Responding in the task manager. I can’t alt-tab out of the window; the only way to shut it down is to ctrl-alt-del and shut down the process manually.

Here’s what I’ve tried to fix this problem, with no luck:

-Restarted computer, router, and modem.

-Repaired client.

-Set AA to “Use application settings” and downloaded latest Catalyst profiles as per this thread:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Black-Screen-Issue-AMD-ATI/first#post38195

-Disabled SPI, then tried DMZ as per this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FAQ-Frequently-Asked-Questions-Compilation/first#post1095890

-Checked GPU temperature, fiddled with over/underclocking

-Ran GW2 client with -diag flag at the end, no problems/crashes

-Disabled MSE

-Tried to reinstall DirectX, but installer said my version was up-to-date.

-Deleted everything in /My Documents/Guild Wars 2, and let the client rebuild those files.

-Right now, I’ve moved the .dat and .tmp files to a subfolder and am letting the client redownload everything, but obviously that’s taking a really long time and I won’t know if that will fix the problem until well into the afternoon.

I haven’t changed anything with my router or computer lately; the game was working yesterday morning. I’ve installed a couple new games on steam since then, but that’s the only thing that’s changed on the software end. Please help!

Why are recipe unlocks soulbound?

I think they are saying they unlocked it already on the wrong toon.

Yea, that.

But it also made me realize that I unlocked all the celestial recipe stuff on my main, even though he’s not a tailor, jeweler, etc. That’s the real problem, more than this specific one – needlessly soulbound items. I can’t think of one legitimate reason why it should work this way. Anyone want to take a stab?

Why are recipe unlocks soulbound?

Just like the title says. I haven’t really used recipes which require an unlock like that before, so I didn’t realize that the legendary gift recipes only unlocked the recipe for the character that double-clicks them. It doesn’t any thing about this in the recipe description:

  • Double-click to learn how to make a gift of energy used to craft The Minstrel, Meteorlogicus, The Bifrost, and Kraitkin. Artificer (400)
  • Double-click to learn how to make a gift of color used in crafting The Bifrost. Chef (400)

So now I’m going to have to either pay 6-8g to learn chef and artificer on my main (when I already have them maxed on an alt) or spend 20g to unlock them on the correct character. This is silly and makes me not want to play any more. Why is the system set up this way? Why don’t recipes unlock for all characters when used?

raises hand I have a question:

Would giving players access to volume of sales information lead to better decision making and a more ideal marketplace?

It seems we’re operating in the dark quite a bit more that people realize if entire stocks are rotating in the space of a day.

I deal in mithril ore (that is to say I dig it up then sell it) and I’ve seen that I can price above the first several hundred to low-thousands of the lowest sale offers and still make my sale within an hour. Even then the lowest offer is usually right back where it was when I posted mine by the time I pick up my coin. The volume that gets traded must be staggering.

Like an average of how many times a commodity is traded before it is used?

Like an average # of transactions per hour/day. Volume listed on gw2spidy is very misleading as it shows unfulfilled orders – whereas volume in a real market context refers to completed trades.

While we’re at it I’d love to be able to short items… as it stands now there is no deflationary pressure within the market itself (not counting the fees), you can only make money through prices going up. I know this will never happen but one can dream. It would be good for the economy, and lower prices for average players! But actually.

6/10. I like wordplay, but lots of people have something like that :P.

My Charr is Dreadquake.

I like it, especially for a Charr warrior or Guardian. Something so big it makes the ground shake.

Defender of Ascalon. We owned that kitten first, not that lesser race.

Wow, I don’t know why it repeated my 1st paragraph over and over. That is annoying..

Actually a pretty clever depiction of gear grind. Each new sentence in the paragraph = a new tier of gear.

Exotic! Ascended! Epic! Hella cool!

Yesterday I did dungeons for the first time since Sunday. Was hoping to get the full 60 for each new path. Alas…

First run: Started around 7:20 and finished around 7:45 P.M. SE top path. 45 tokens.

Second run: People dropped midway and we had to find another, so it started at 8:05 and ended at 8:45 P.M. SE top path again. 5 tokens.

Third run: Five tokens sucks, so I did some other stuff then went looking for a different dungeon to run. Totally new group, TA up path, 15 tokens. Started at 9:45 and finished at 10:15 P.M.

I know y’all have to test this stuff, but please roll this fix out quickly. TA is a fun dungeon and I would run it anyway without much token reward, but it makes it hard to find groups when no one is sure how much reward they will get, and anyone who gets screwed (ie 5-15 tokens) is going to drop the group afterward.
