I honestly think this elite skill has tons of potential that is going to waste. I’d love to use it if it were not so useless.


If it were up to me to take it upon myself to change the skill for the better, I’d start by doing the following:

  • Increase movement speed by 10-25%.
  • Decrease casting time of Punch.
  • Decrease aftercast of all skills.
  • Move skill Self Repair to the healing skill slot.
  • Move skill Leave Suit to the elite skill slot.
  • Move skill Whirling Assault into skill slot #5.
  • Create a skill that pulls foes towards you and place it into skill slot #4.
  • Allow movement while casting Gatling Fists.
  • Remove active duration on suit (60 seconds) by allowing the suit to be in use until going into a downed state or exiting. This system would be more consistent with the Hazmat Suit. The cooldown begins once the suit is destroyed.

Damage: The damage seems to be alright, at least at level 80, as I was testing this skill on Risen mobs in Cursed Shore. I don’t think the attacks should be buffed themselves, they just need to be better adapted to lower levels, such as level 30 when you are first able to use it.

“This skill is meant to be dull”: Some of you may be saying something of the sort—arguing that racial elites are meant to be inferior to class elites. I do not argue against that, but I think the skill should at least be entertaining to use.

Comments? Something that could still be improved? Something too OP?

To those of you on BG who are whining and crying that JQ is stacked, let me point you to previous matches where it has been the other way around (actually, in some cases, worse!)

I’d also like to point out that for the majority of T1 matches in the past few months, BG has won first place with a 20k+ advantage over the other two servers, and now, when they are losing, they are acting like a child who has had their toy taken away.

Maybe it’s just the fairweather players having nothing else to do but rage on the forums but BG really needs to learn to fight under uncertain conditions… it’s not an easy win for you anymore.

EDIT: For clarification, no, that does not mean “buy more guilds”. You have the people, use them intelligently.

Becoming a leader in WvW combat within the current system—which is simply raising and spending 100 gold pieces on a book—allows many inexperienced players to become Commanders; renowned players that, by definition, command other players in their squad to do specific tasks. This obviously can lead to many problems that can be back-breaking for server efforts. Additionally, the use of the Commander icon outside of PvP is—in its current state—ostensibly useless, as most players contend in PvE solo or in parties of 2-5.

So.. what are you suggesting?
Instead of the Commander books being purchased in cities for 100 gold, they should be available inside WvW and be bought with an amount of Badges of Honor, currency given to players who defeat other players. This allows inspired individuals who wish to lead to earn it, rather than simply grind PvE or ask their guild for gold. This number could be anywhere from 500 (equal to the Gift of Battle for legendary weapons) to 1000, giving players the chance to become experienced with WvW combat and tactics before they begin leading groups of players, and no chance for them to grind or ask for badges, as they are account bound and human players aren’t exactly farm-able.

What do we do with the current Commanders?
Refund. Give every single Commander book back to those who have bought it for their full 100 gold. But, you might say, what happens when there are no commanders because nobody has had the chance to raise x number of badges? Well, an easy fix for this would be a heads-up announcement. Let players know this change is on its way so those who are inclined to become Commanders can begin earning the badges ahead of time.

What about people who want to be led in PvE?
Another separate Commander system could be created, with a book purchasable for 100 gold, but would only be viable in PvE. Players who would like to run with a leader can join their squad. These Commander icons, unlike those in WvW, would only be visible on the map if you are currently in their squad.

Remind me, why do we need this?
It keeps players who don’t know much about WvW from leading. It’s awfully vexatious having a Commander who doesn’t know what they’re doing simply because they played the economy and not the game.

Edits and Clarifications: Based upon suggestions by comments.

  • Jumping puzzles would no longer reward players with BoH. This prevents players from grinding them daily for the badges instead of actual WvWing.
  • There would be a prerequisite achievement for buying the book. A couple comments have mentioned that 1000 BoH is quite an easy feat (technically 1000 badges = 10 gold), and having a required achievement or achievements, such as x towers/holds captured, x players in WvW killed, etc. would make it more difficult and rewarding (experience-wise) to players who want to become Commanders.

Didn’t know this much whining about a matchup you were never meant to win was possible. Hope MAG gets paired with SoR and BG next week, you’ll love it.

I think we’d prefer any server that has at least trace amounts of skillful players over JQ at this point.

JQ would probably say the same.

All I’ve seen is daily video evidence of JQ blobs of superior numbers getting wiped over and over again by maguuma players, or running to towers/siege from numerically-inferior maguuma small groups.

I wouldn’t be surprised though if its just from JQ’s inability to figure out how to screen capture that is holding them back.

I know, it’s a new concept for JQ, but it’s also reality.

Hmm, if Maguuma’s skill is defeating groups with superior numbers, explain to me how they fail to hold on to any one keep for more than a day. Surely when the zergs come they would just wipe them “over and over again” instead of risk the capture…

In fact, from what I’ve seen, it’s been quite the opposite. Might just be the “superior numbers” but your post seems to deem otherwise.

And you’re right, potential points do not reflect skill but effort. The higher it is, the more or (often) less effort it takes to outmatch your enemies. Maguuma was doing so well on Friday, too… coverage gaps, I suppose.

Then again, Jade Quarry is fighting against two T3 servers, not much room to brag or boast, so good luck to both of you. Hopefully we will jump back into the fight with BG/SoR next week. Sure, new servers are fun and all but there is little/no challenge outside of T1 given the differences in coverage and numbers between the servers.

No hate though, I hate hating.
