Agree with OP

I am no longer interested in GW2 PvP. As I used to play LoL, I tried SMITE (clone of LoL). Before comparing them, let’s compare the beta tests.

The GW2 beta test was very long and they let players who pre-ordered debug the game for a very long time. And look what they end up with ! PvP is a mess for tons of reasons. Now, if you compare to SMITE which is actually in beta test, it is really more mature than today’s GW2. It is even much better than LoL.

And yes SMITE is a lot of fun compared to GW2. Arenas are very exciting. And everything is done to let you learn the game very fast (auto select items and skills) even if you are a casual as I am. And you face players of your level.

GW2 ? In tPvP you play against premade teams of average level 36 when you are 16. Oh yeah sure, that’s fun ! When I recently gave up PvP, I was the highest level in my team (16) when the levels of the opponent team were 42, 39, 39, 37, 10 … The more Arena waits to fix PvP issues, the deeper is the gap between casual gamers and hardcore gamers. At some point, they won’t any meat to feed them. The learning curve is going to be too hard.

Paid Tournaments are Live

Paid tournaments prevent hardcore teams from facing casual or PU teams. Fine, they are alone in their world. But the casual teams still have to face the farming hardcore teams in free tournaments and they cannot learn and progress.

Paid tournaments have been out for around 14 days and already have very long wait times. For newer teams that do not want to face pugs over and over this means they can have to wait for 20-40 minutes only to get stomped in less than 8 minutes by a hardcore team. Then they have to wait even longer for the next tournament.

The problem is not that hardcore teams face pug teams in PvP but the opposite ! The problem is that pug or casual teams face hardcore teams. And this is not fixed with paid tournaments. It fixes the first problem but not the second one. The casual players have no place to learn and progress in order to finally organize themselves and queue into paid tournaments once ready. So they leave for better structured PvP games. No casual players to play against, no pro players, no e-sport. Done.

Ranking, ELO, matchmaking, different maps, different objectives, all that stuff would be great (and was already present in GW1). But beyond the pvp format, the GW2 gameplay is very weak compared to GW1’s one.

For instance, the fact that you cant buff or heal a team mate except yourself is a critical issue. In GW1 and other MMO, it creates a game in the game, they try to kill someone, you counter and infuse or protect the target. The objective is now to shut down the healer and then to counter the one trying to counter the healer. And so on.

In GW2, the gameplay is just about bunker builds and tons of AoE to capture a point.
Yes, you can heal but mostly group healing. You even target a team mate. GW2 is no more collaborative and I miss this.

Why do they go around changing stuff that wasn’t broken, and on top of it they change it for the worse?!?!

Agree 100%
But the format is not the only problem.
Fights are too messy with tons of AoE.
Almost no teamplay (except the too complex combo mechanism) because for instance no invidual buff or heal.
Capture points are boring.

This game is very disappointing.
