Irenio best dev!
He is a totally awesome developer and a super-nice person, too!
Actually, Irenio just said I could remove “perhaps” from “perhaps before the end of the week.” So celebrate with me and look forward to the return of our fully-alert and ultra-responsive pet friends!
Hey guys,
I met up with Irenio, who was heading into my area of the building to talk to me about this very bug. As it turns out, it’s quite a complicated issue and that’s why it took a while to address. But… it has been addressed, yaaay! The fix for this issue should be going out very soon, perhaps before the end of the week.
Naturally, for something this complicated, there are a lot of “layers to the onion” in getting it resolved, but it is very much in the devs’ minds, and help is on the way for our beloved, but lazy-seeming, pets!
Thank you for your patience while we addressed this issue. The content has been re-enabled.
I hope you can join us for the Preview Weekend. I can’t wait for you to see the Crystal Desert and have a look at some of the starter content!
Will we be able to preview the elite specs in anyway during this be it in heart of the mists or the starter map?
Check out this blog post, where you’ll see that players can experience and experiment with the new elite specializations in a second weekend event on August 18-22.
That’s a fair question. The Preview Weekend is a chance for anyone to experience the first part of Path of Fire. Even if they’re not a Guild Wars 2 player, they can dive in an see how things look in Tyria. However, the Preview Weekend is not an early start or anything of that nature, and naturally attainments and acquisitions will be wiped before the launch of Path of Fire on September 22, 2017.
I hope you can join us for the Preview Weekend. I can’t wait for you to see the Crystal Desert and have a look at some of the starter content!
I created my account and bought both expansions but am having some bad issues. I created the ticket and received the email that says they will get to it as soon as possible, but the username “Name.1234” is not mine nor what I have on my account that I just made.
So now I worry if it will get fixed. I guess I just cross my fingers and wait.
If you reply to the e-mail you received in relation to this ticket, you can update to include more information, or ask for an update on the situation. In the meantime, if you share your ticket (incident) number, I will see if I can look at it, although it will require CS to address it.

Hey all,
As you know, we had a bit of news come out this week. Ok, ok, we had some major news come out this week. We’re all very excited about the upcoming launch of Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire! ~insert happy dance here~
Because we will be focusing on preparing for the launch of Path of Fire, CSL is going to have a brief hiatus, with a bold return in October. Think of this as our time “between seasons,” sort of like Game of Thrones — with a few dragons, but without all the dead people. With that said, here is the…
COMMUNITY SHOWCASE LIVE: FALL 2017 SCHEDULE
October: Halloween Festival
November: Crystal Desert
December: Wintersday
Dates for each show will be announced, but normally CSL airs around the midpoint of each month. Remember we do delve into our archives and look for the latest submittals, too, but we usually need to curate and select art in the first week of each month, so don’t wait too long to share your creations.
We’re excited about the upcoming shows, and look forward to seeing all your wonderful art! Post here, or on Tumblr (using #GW2 Fan Submission), or on both!

Hi there. I’ve been discussing this concern with team members, and unfortunately the screenshots that are provided don’t really make clear the differences between the face and body. Could you please add a screenshot that shows this difference?
Oh gosh darn it! You’ve tried both in the game and on the website? What sort of error are you getting? If you see this message: “Unfortunately an error has occurred. Please try again later!” we’d like to ask you to contact Customer Support and they will look into the matter. If you’re seeing something else, could you share that so I can pass it along?
I am cutting and pasting these into report e-mails, so the details you provide — error codes, screenshots, whatever — are very helpful!
Thanks.
Update: One of our excellent QA folks is going to take a look. They believe it may be an issue with certain graphics cards, but they’ll test and we’ll let you know what we discover.
I passed that along. Thanks for providing the details of what you had tried to resolve it, so the team can more quickly identify alternatives to try!
Ok, just checked on that “too many redirects” issue, and we heard that while some of the situation has been corrected, they’re still working on other components, and they hope to have this fully nailed down very soon.
The team is aware of this and is looking into the situation. Thanks for the report.
Trying to buy PoF from the gem store using my Visa credit card. The entry form requires a 4 digit security code, but to my knowledge only American Express has 4 digit security codes while Visa has 3 digits. Never had this issue before and have purchased hundreds of dollars of gems.
That’s really odd, Celtus! Can you send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing, so I can share it with the team?
Thanks.
Tried multiple times to purchase the $79 version and ran into the same problem most others have reported – after hitting continue it doesn’t process the payment and tells me an error has occurred and that I should try again later. Tried on both my machine and my wife’s without success.
Sorry to hear, Arrow. What browser are you using? (And have you tried alternative browsers? Just asking so I can give full info in my report to the devs.)
Hey there,
A few people were sent serial codes that had already been distributed. If you get an error message that suggests your code was one of those (<100) sent out twice — such a message might be something like “This code is in use” or something of that sort — please be aware that we have gathered a list and will be sending replacement codes without you needing to do a thing!
This applies to the Path of Fire Deluxe Collection, which is the “bundle” that includes Path of Fire and Heart of Thorns.
If you submitted a ticket, no worries. If you did not, no worries. We’ll get that code out — they’ve already started on it — and if you need any extra help, you can contact CS at that time. We’re very sorry for this inconvenience and will take care of this as soon as possible.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Thanks for the reports and for all these details!
I believe that the load times are better but not great. We’ll continue to investigate if there are additional ways to improve performance.
FURTHER INVESTIGATION:
the site http://81.21.151.214/store/gw2/en_IE/html/pbPage.pathoffire/themeID.4785548100 worked… somehow…
This is the only link that works for me. Can someone from AN confirm that it is safe to buy from the link?
I have asked about that link and will update when I know more.
A message from the Customer Support Team:
With the announcement of Path of Fire, we’ve seen a lot of excitement about the game! With that, ticket volumes have increased. We wanted to let you know that the turn-around time for CS ticket responses may be longer than normal.
If you have submitted a ticket, the team will get back to you as quickly as possible, but it may take an extra day or two to do so. Please remember to not submit duplicate tickets for the same issue, because that will only delay our response to your need or concern. Please also remember when you submit a ticket to include as many details as you can about the issue you are experiencing. For instance, if you are receiving an error message, please include the exact message or error code. If you are having account access issues, provide as many details as you can to identify yourself and your account.
We look forward to helping you as soon as we can, and thank you for your understanding.
So sorry to hear! Do you recall if you got a specific error code?
Also, I don’t think you can do this, but if you’re able to use the in-game report, that will send a lot of info to the programmers. (I do believe if it’s crashing you would not be able to do the in-game report, but if the pop-up is available, adding a note about what you were trying to do would help!)
Thank you for this information. I just checked and this is a known issue and we’ll correct it as soon as we can.
Thanks again!

A message from the Skills and Balance Team:
Hi everyone, we have some big news today regarding item changes in an upcoming balance patch. These changes may impact which gear and consumables you want for your build, so let’s dive in and see what’s different!
CONCENTRATION AND EXPERTISE
With the release of Heart of Thorns, we added new stat combos for equipment that included Concentration and Expertise as stat replacements for Condition Duration and Boon Duration. Having both of these systems available on equipment and consumables is redundant, so in the upcoming balance update we will be converting all equipment and consumables that provide a bonus to Boon Duration or Condition Duration to use Concentration or Expertise instead. This allows players more granular control over how much benefit they receive and makes it easier to balance and scale those values across the game. Runes and Sigils are not included in these changes and will remain in their current form.
Consumables
Food buffs that provided Condition Duration and Boon Duration will now provide normalized stat values for Concentration and Expertise similar to other consumables of the appropriate levels. Level 80 food that once provided +20% Condition Duration or Boon Duration will now provide +100 Expertise or Concentration, respectively. This change should lower the power of condition-based builds overall as well as encourage support players to invest more heavily in gear to acquire the boon duration they desire.
We are making this change for a couple of reasons. First of all, condition builds received a significantly higher damage boost from using food than power builds, which made it much harder to balance them across game modes. This change will bring the impact of optimal condi food in line with optimal power food. With the use of food imparting a consistent amount of DPS for all damage-dealing builds, we are able to more easily make changes to the skills and traits themselves, especially base amounts of condition duration. That in turn makes it easier for all players to understand roughly how much benefit they will receive from consuming food.
Secondly, we wanted to clean up a number of inconsistencies with consumables in general, and the upcoming balance patch gave us the perfect window to make these changes. When we made the change to Seaweed Salad, we knew that there were a lot more things that needed attention, but the scope of the changes to consumables was too broad to get out the door at the same time.
Equipment and Upgrades
The Giver’s weapon and armor sets currently are the only stat combos that provide Condition Duration (weapons) and Boon Duration (armor). In the upcoming build, these will be converted to Expertise and Concentration as well! While this will result in a small loss in stats for the weapons, it will greatly increase the benefit of the armor once Concentration is provided in level- and rarity-appropriate values. This change not only completes the standardization of stats on gear, but also will greatly improve the armor stat combo for those looking to play in a support role.
Additionally, Snowflakes and Doubloons have been switched over to use Concentration as well. Doubloons will now grant bonuses in line with other upgrades of their level and rarity, and level 80 Snowflake upgrades will provide the same bonuses as before, now with consistent stat messaging.
CHANGES TO UTILITY CONSUMABLES
We are also taking this opportunity to standardize the way Utility buffs provide bonuses, rework the theming, and ensure that they feel unique and different from Food buffs. All Utility buffs will consistently provide stat conversion from now on. Additionally, Sharpening Stones will always benefit Power-based builds, Tuning Crystals will always benefit Condition-based builds, and Maintenance Oils have been repurposed to benefit Support builds.
As the chart at the bottom of this post reveals, we are making some pretty significant changes, and those changes warrant discussion. When we sat down to talk about consumable balance, we came away with three goals: convert %Boon/Condition Duration into Concentration / Expertise, establish consistency in the damage boost from consumables, and make Utility buffs and Food buffs feel distinctly different. So we reviewed all the different Utility buff models we had tried since the game launched, and decided that the coolest build decisions involved converting stats into other stats. After that, the data showed us that Maintenance Oils were worse than Sharpening Stones for power DPS, so we threw out their concept and repurposed them as the Utility category for support builds.
The damage boost from using the new Utility buffs will be slightly higher for Berserker builds than it was before, and somewhat weaker for Condition builds than it was before. The effects of the baseline buffs also have changed to not convert from defensive stats anymore. That effect is now on the “Magnanimous” prefix, which was introduced in Episode 5 of Living World Season 3. If you’re still interested in that conversion but don’t have the episode or don’t want to do the reward track, the Compact utilities available from Canned Food Crates in WvW will provide a reduced-effect version of the Magnanimous utilities.
Recipes
While we were going through and making changes to the function of the Utility buffs, we also took a hard look at the crafting costs associated with them and made some adjustments to bring down the costs of making Furious, Toxic, and Bountiful utility items. It should be significantly less painful to craft these items going forward, and we are hopeful that the reduced cost of entry leads many more people to experiment with new utilities they may not have considered before.
We’re very excited to release these changes into the wild and look forward to getting them into your hands as soon as possible!
I play GW2 from a portable HDD via USB3 cable when I travel. Never an issue since thru-put. So there’s that too
Hrmm, if it’s working fine for you I’ll grab a new USB3 thumb drive and try move GW2 to it this week to test it out. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work out but I have a new back up drive.
I honestly didn’t expect it would work, but nice to hear reports. Could you post again or PM me after you’ve tested it, too? I’m always interested in learning more.
Also, we seem to have gone quite a bit off topic, and so I’m going to close this thread. From what I understand, the OP did purchase Path of Fire and they’re happy with their decision to do so.
(edited by Gaile Gray.6029)
Guys — it was a joke. “Defrag your HD” was the standard CS answer back years and years ago, when they really didn’t know what was wrong but wanted to say something. Sorry if you were confused. I’ll try to rain more smilies in my jokes in the future.
Yeah, do that – or preferable a “just kidding”. To the poster, the winkie-face may have implied it would solve all his/her problems. Some people outside of IT won’t get the joke. Note that I’m not trying to ruin any jovial mood you may be in!
Yep, I did that a while ago, actually: Added a flag on my post to make it clear I was not really suggesting a defrag. And thanks for your kindness — I do feel rather jovial today.
Maybe get an inexpensive external storage device and move a few things there??
How well does GW2 run from an external thumb drive? My windows partition is not getting any bigger, but external storage is cheap.
~lol!~ Nah, I didn’t mean put GW2 on a thumb drive, although you did make me smile there. I was more thinking of whether they could move off, say, a bunch of saved photographs (or even screenshots) and not a game. Photos take up a lot of space but are easily stored off the comp, right?
Uh, don’t defrag SSDs. All it does is add wear to them. They don’t need to be defragged.
Do NOT defrag an SSD! Very poor advice, Gaile!

To avoid possible problems during defrag, first don’t forget to backup your copy of Guild Wars 2. To achieve this, feel free to use 1.44 floppy disks.
Thank you for getting it, Alin!

Um… can someone, a dev or mod, clarify the minimum space requirements? It says 50 GB. Is that for all the current content?
Right now, GW2 is about 29.4 GB for its GW2.dat file (and I have HoT). I only have about 32 GB of space left on my computer… Do I actually need 50 more GB or is the 50 GB including at least the core game?
That is an excellent question. I’ll check for you.
And the answer is, the 50 GB is for everything, not in addition to what’s already in use. Thanks for asking — it’s worth knowing in case others wonder about it.
Crap… I don’t want to uninstall 50% of my other games. Can’t afford a larger SSD yet.
Defrag! <— meant as a joke.
Since I started PC gaming in the 80s, I totally understand what you’re saying. (My first hard drive was 40 MB, and that was considered well above average!) Maybe get an inexpensive external storage device and move a few things there?? Best of luck!

Folks, you really need to read the previous statement, not with what you thought it said, or hoped it said, or inferred it said, but read it for the value of what it actually said.
“In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.” We are offering the core game and the two expansion packs for a single purchase price. We are not offering the previous expansion pack for free, nor did we say we would.
At this point, the statement has been quoted, its context should be understood, and there’s nothing more to say on this subject.
Two years ago they made a promise: every new expansion would contain previous expansions for free. Now people have to buy them in bundle.
Two years ago they also made a second promise: with every expansion release, all non-upgraded accounts would get previous expansions for free. Now old accounts of core game will no longer get HoT.
Seriously ArenaNet?! You started breaking promises now?
Sorry, that is completely inaccurate. Please read the materials again, as we never made such comments or promises at any time.

Heart of Thrones was very expensive and you try to cover that up with that promise… I have HoT, but this is just another lie, this time from Gaile… very sad moment on a day when we can order second expansion…
Cash grab … very nice! Great success!
No, read again. Calling me a liar doesn’t make sense, when you can read the actual statement. As I said above, there was no you get a free game, and you get a free game, and you… As you will note with today’s announcement, there is an option to purchase a “bundle” for a reduced cost over the individual purchases, but the two expansion packs are not inter-dependent, and are separate purchases.

Business Model Clarification
…In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.-GW2 team June 22, 2015
Yes, and that’s what we’re doing. At no time did we say “everything preceding the XP is included, or free, or part of the cost of the XP.” We said that core GW2, HoT, and PoF would be offered for a single purchase, and that’s what’s happening.
The Trading Post is currently undergoing maintenance. We will re-enable it as soon as possible.
Bought ultimate, everything is ok. Waiting for gems.
Awesome! Thanks for your support.
If you received a level 80 boost from HoT, will you get one more for purchasing PoF?
Have bought it and can confirm I have another level 80 boost up there with the account slots
Thanks for sharing that, Safari.

No, PoF and HoT are totally separate.
Correct!
Me and a few others in my guild purchased the $79 version and got most of the stuff already. We didn’t get the 4000 gems? Is this a bug or just slow?
DivaCeryn , it states in the email after purchase that can take upto 72 hrs to get the gems, so wouldnt worry just yet.
Correct. I’m getting that added to the main FAQ for Path of Fire, so it’s info that players can get real easily.
Still getting that error.
Which error?
If you cannot purchase…
Please post the details here.
However, if you see this message: “Unfortunately an error has occurred. Please try again later!” we’d like to ask you to contact Customer Support and they will look into the matter.
Basically, if it’s an Error Code 500 or 504, we’re on the case, and those have been (we believe) fully addresssed. But the specific message above points to a topic worth discussing with CS.

I have been unable to purchase both through the in game gem store and through Google Chrome. Like others have said, the error message on the gem store goes away too fast to really read and it’s the same error as everyone else through my browser. I’m not trying to bundle with HoT as I already have it. I’m just trying to purchase the Ultimate edition. I’m also in the USA. Don’t know if that info helps.
Very helpful details, thank you!
To those for whom this is relevant:
Buying the Bundle
The option to purchase the bundle of Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire will appear at the end of the purchase flow, when you are reviewing your order. Please note that if you already own HoT, the upgrade/bundle option will not appear. But if you do not own HoT and are looking to purchase Path of Fire and add Heart of Thorns at a reduced price, it should appear as I described above.
Please let me know if it does not appear for you, and thanks!
So trying to do Standard Edition bundle into Upgrade to Deluxe Collection to payment gives an error. That’s the purchase I am trying to go through with.
Edit: This is using the in-game shop
Thank you, I will pass that along right now.
A few of my friends have come over from another game recently and are playing on free accounts. They would like to purchase the HoT unlocks but have been holding off until the announcement of the PoF release date.
I just took a look at the bundle postings and they indicate that PoF and the core Central Tyria is included; however, there is not indication of whether the HoT content is as well.
Can you please confirm or deny that HoT is included in this price?
Thank you for clarifying!
HoT is not included in the price, however you can add HoT to your cart when buying PoF and receive a discount.
This is correct.

It isn’t. As a german user, the ingame shop throws an error, too. Right before checkout, doesn’t even forward to Paypal. All my browsers throw safety certificate issues, thelling me the site is not safe and someone may want to steal data.
Fenda — we’re sorry for this, and would love to figure it out! Can you give me more information? For example, could you post one of the safety warnings you get? That would be very helpful.
