Hello AnimeChan here, I’m looking for a good class for the Aura are there any recommendations?
I was thinking about a necromancer, engineer or guardian. I’m a noob in GW2, looking for friends and such so I really wanna start off strong so I don’t regret my choices later. Any tips would help me out, thanks a million~

P.S What are the differences between “The Three Asuran Colleges” I’m still installing the game so I don’t know much other then from forums.

What have you played/like in other games? Would your primary focus be PVE, pvp, or WvW?

Not sure if you know this, but your race has absolutely 0 effect on your character other than looks. Race doesn’t make you run faster, or do more dmg, or give you more health, its only looks. On a related note, all the racial skills are made deliberately worse than class skills, so that people dont have to choose a specific race.

The colleges dont really do anything other than if you want to plan a backstory for your character, and i think it might affect some of your personal story as well. In general, just choose the things you think your character would probably do.

Here are just some general game tips:

Firstly, there is a huge difference between the combat here and the combat in WoW and most other MMOs. A few things of note:

The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first

In addition, GW2 is highly unlike other games in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.

Yeah races dont matter really at all. Just play what you think looks cool. Since you said your looking at necros/engis/guards and you mainly do PVE, i would suggest a guardian because

1. Theyre really easy to level with

2. Basically the backbone of any group content. A well played guardian can turn the tide of a fight going downhill (applies to pvp and PVE)

3. Necros and engis are very meh for PVE. Other classes can do what they can, and better (PVE only)

4. Asuran guardians look awesome!

Well guardians are a mix of a magic/melee class. Think deathknights or paladin from WoW. They have lots of bright blue visual effects, as well as lots of access to the “burning” condition

Necros are really good for just running around solo, open world PVE, and pvp as they are naturally extremely tanky with lots of CC. Their class mechanic, death shroud, is essentially a second health bar, with other skills added as well. That said the elementalist is probably more of your standard Mage/caster class.

If you can’t decide you can jump into spvp after you complete your tutorial step (for asurans it would be after you defeat the big golem thing). Just click the crossed swords icon in the top left of your screen and select “enter heart of the mists”. This will instantly level you to 80 and give you all the traits, skills, weapons, and gear that a regular lvl 80 would have so you can see how a certain class plays and judge if you would like it at high levels or not.

For a server its hard to say, with the new mega server system all the zones are really full all the time. You can also temporarily “guest” to other servers for anything PVE related so the only reason you choose a specific server would be if you have friends, or WvW. Tarnished Coast, Blackgate, and Jade Quarry are some of the bigger ones, and Anvil Rock, Kaineng, and Ferguson’s Crossing (my server) are some of the smaller ones
