Guild Wars 2

So I have an issue every once in a while where all of a sudden. y game will start making a medium pitched noise that cycles up and down in volume like a siren and all other in game sounds will go away, I have tried turning down each of the different categories of sound and none of them seem to change it, the only thing that works is muting GW2 through windows, then I have to restart the game when I can and it fixes it, but it is happening more and more often. Anyone have a fix for this? It is very hard to be competetive in WvW when you have no sound.

I have the same problem from time to time! It’s most of the time in WvW, but I got the same issue in a dungeon once. I have no idea where it’s coming from, there seems to be no clear relation between something that happens in the game and the issue.

Thanks for the tip of only muting GW2 through windows, I didn’t think about that yet. Normally I would just turn my full sound system off and also be cut off Skype and all, but this makes things easier!

Just had it happen to me today after a LONG period of having no issues anymore.

Originally I had it happen to me every time on the Claw of Jormag fight. It almost seems like the multitude of sound effects from the game ‘overload’ your sound drivers or something. Like it wants to use too many channels.

Muting GW2 prevents a crash and you can still use Mumble/TS/etc just fine. So it’s definitely something that’s caused by the game.

This happend to me for the first time the other day in a fractal, then today in WvW. It resembles an Air Raid Siren SOUND. Very anoying, very loud and actually quiet painfull to the ear. It only comes through on my left side of my headset, the remainder of the game sounds still come through on the right.

The only way to fix it whilest staying in game is to mute gw2 from your system audio settings and mute gw2 application it’s self, which is what you need to do while in a fractal as you can’t rejoin your group still, so you cant restart the gw2 client which is the other tempory fix.

I know of 4-5 other guild members that this has been happening to since the last patch/fix lol.

Yeah, I’m in TSym and we run about 200 active members, and about 30 of them have this happen totally randomly. I just would like to know if it is caused by my settings or it is a bug. Also this has been happening to me and a bunch others since late September. Also I don’t think it is an overload because it happens so randomly, it has happened when I admin my OWN overflow of LA and it just randomly starts…

Also should I repost this in the BUG category? Would that be a better fit for this post?

probably should be in the bug catagory, but yes this has happened to me too every once in a while and it is REALLY annoying, didnt start untill after the last patch and it is always at very bad times it starts happening like when a boss is at 1/3 health or in the middle of pushing back waves of invaders in WVW
