I am here to tell you that Direct damage is just too OP. I was fighting a direct damage class the other day and they just kept hitting me for these instant big numbers, soooo much higher than mine that my single heal couldn’t keep up, even with a low cool down, it’s just too much damage. If it had been damage over time, I could have cleansed it, healed a few times, escaped, or planned for condition damage in my build, at least when you are still alive you have options…
I think all the big numbers need toned down a little, so I don’t really have to change my build, or think about defense at all, and can play how I like.
10/10 post
To obtain the best direct damage you need to spend all your traits and equipment to be berserker. That make you powerfull in attack but if the enemy hit you… well… you die in 0,00000000000001 sec.
And a Necro can output more than 3k damage x second, whit the equip whit Pow-prec-Cond (I don’t remember the name), 2k or more whit only condition damage.
If a “dps” class fight a Condi class, the dps die 80% of the times.
That’s why there’s so much boons and conditions that reduces the damage you can recive and the speed of the enemy. The best direct damage weapon is always a melee weapon and that reduce the chance for the enemy to hit you, if you run and he can’t.
You can reduce the enemy damage whit: Traits (example: Ranger, Guardian or Warrior, in different way), Runes (Vampire runes transform you into a mist form at 10% hp), Sigil (there’s a sigil that increase your toughness), Defensive Skills (so many skills adsorb or reduce to 0 the enemy direct damage), Boons (Protection, that reduce the damage you take by 33%) and Conditions (Weakness make the enemy inflict 50% less damage every hit whit 50% chance). Then you can use Blind, Block skills, Aegis, dodge, fear, etc to avoid the enemy attacks and work better whit direct damage than against condition damage dealer. If you cripple/Chill a melee dps class you can flee easy or kill it from the distance. And you can increase your Toughness to reduce the damage of enemy direct damage skills, a thing that isn’t applied to condition damage.
There’s a large amount of active and passive skills, traits and equipments to reduce or avoid the direct damage.
That’s why a direct damage dps class can inflict a large amount of damage: there’s a large amount of things that can reduce the direct damage and a dps class have no defence and low survavibility.
(the only 2 classes that can play pure dps is Warrior, whit Stances, and Thief, whit Hide, but if you catch them whitout the skills ready or stun them they die anyway)
when classes can burst like this, condition damage is just laughable since we wont be given the time to let out conditions tick.
lol @ people getting so easily trolled
This thread made me lol at people who took it seriously. Well done OP. Anyone with half a brain knows that we are in a tanky condi meta right now.
Talk to me when you see 3 eles, mesmers, or thieves on a top team.

Unless I don’t see you coming there is no way I will die quick. A lot of people run glass canon it does not end well for them there are many counters such as ranged burst, conditions, tanks, stealth, blind and so on…. Will you survive to execute your next move I don’t think so.

a good glass cannon will pick and choose when and who to engage. (makes sure you cant dodge/block/etc…)
a bad glass cannon will die because of the above items you mentioned.

Not every class can freely engage and disengage there will always be a risk even for a thief only few good ones steal kills and abuse of chaos.
Not the way I would play but I guess everyone is unique.
I actually think some of these people are serious. That would be incredibly sad if ANYONE thinks direct damage is better than condi right now.

Omg I’m not even sure if you are trolling or serious O.o
In fact, there’s nothing like “condi tank meta”. Closest you can get is an engineer with various builds.
There are teams with More than 1 Ele/Thief already and people still run Mesmers doing pretty good. You know what? Because it’s not condi meta Mesmers struggle with.
It’s Power/Tank/Strenght rune meta.
Strenght rune gives condi dmg. Just sayin…

and anyone with more than half a brain would know that thats just wrong.
gj OP, shows how kittening ridiculous all those ‘CONDI OP’-whiners are.

I wonder how much you PvP. Conditions are much whined about, but actually meaningless in all but the most casual fights (1v1~2v2 in sPvP, solo roaming, artificial duelling).
In anything where people want to win, conditions are pointless. Too easy to get rid off, too low scaling (Power on direct damage outscales Malice on conditions, even if those two were the only stats, meaning per-point-invested, direct damage always scales better, plus it scales all condition-applying attacks, too), caps, too short fights to be of use.
Condition duration, yes, that is important. For binary conditions such as Immobilize or Cripple or Weakness. Is that the “condition meta” you mean? Then yes, we’re in that. In a way. Damage-wise, you better be joining the assist-train.
perfect post …. (but I don’t want to make this post at least 15 characters long boooo) ignore that bit
Condibunker is already the meta. This thread is so funny.

Uh huh. Where? In your 1v1 casual roaming? :P
In any serious format, direct damage is the only way to kill people as condition defence multiplies between team members. So either you need someone with direct damage to apply the pressure first so someone with conditions can go for the kill while everyone is busy trying not to die (to the direct damage!), or you need simple DD-assist-train, good ol’ DAoC style.

And they’re used by condition builds. Yes, absolutely.
Might be a troll post but much truth was spoken none the less.
well when conditions r affected by dmg mitigations , like protection , or using an invulnerability skill after a condi been applied (so it doesnt hurt while u have invulnerable while haing a condition) then sure.
well when conditions r affected by dmg mitigations , like protection , or using an invulnerability skill after a condi been applied (so it doesnt hurt while u have invulnerable while haing a condition) then sure.
That will happen when damage done by Direct Damage can be removed after the attack has already landed.
well when conditions r affected by […] using an invulnerability skill after a condi been applied (so it doesnt hurt while u have invulnerable while haing a condition) then sure.
You can use the invul skill to avoid the attack that afflicts the condition. Srsly, what makes you guys think you should be able to avoid conditions with it after youve already been hit? What makes you think it should work like that at all? I just dont get it.

Obvious troll thread would read again
Still baits out the conditions are OP players

although if no1 objects even if its a troll, it could cause anet to take a serious look at it and maybe even nerf direct dmg:o
so its good to have at least 2-3 players to say something on trolly threads
The fact that people here think he’s a troll for the WRONG REASONS scares me!
/facepalm so hard… After reading posters above me.

If it’s supposed to be a troll post about how you can’t be serious if you think direct damage is too powerful, then I got to ask: it is too powerful (in comparison, or rather, conditions are too restricted). As easily seen by tPvP tournaments, WvW or PvE… so… what would be the point?

My responses was directed to those guys who think condition needs a nerf. It doesn’t, it’s crap, and it’s no longer up to discussion, we have facts to proove it. It’s not a matter of opinion or not. It just is, and I’m tired of people who thinks it’s too powerful. In case you weren’t aware, this thread was directed to those silly threads about how condition is OP (When it’s the complete opposite) like the one I’m about to link:
