Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)
(edited by Shockwave.1230)
I love it!!!
Played it all day.
Here’s my favorite build, works well so far straight out of being theory crafted and right into the game. Might change it a bit, but it all flows well so far.
Enjoy, it feels broken at the moment lol, so hurry while it lasts.
Edit
I “fixed” the link. The site is doing weird auto language stuff. It now defaults to english.
Edit 2
Some buried in the thread.
Fyi, I’ve been playing around with swapping hydromancy out. Air adds more damage over time and with the evades available is a bit like how S/D thief applies damage. I still like the chill though, but Air is definitely a strong alternative and you always have crippling on the dagger. The choice here comes down to playtsyle in my opinion. If you’re primarily using S/D to survive and gain range, stick with hydromancy. If you’re primarily swapping to survive and deal damage go with Air sigil.
I also found myself not always getting enough of a benefit out of the vigor after heal and since it’s only and extra 75% bonus to endurance swapping traits to reduce Entangle’s recharge to 48 seconds can be beneficial. I think if you’re expecting to be in a lot of team fights, go with the 48 second entangle.
One other quick note, I’m not sure that the Fury on Weapon swap is applying before Hydromancy Triggers. Hydromancy can crit, but it doesn’t seem like it’s critting at 75% of the time, more like 50%.

A tip with this by the way, if you’re using protect me and want to start recontesting a point, you can end it early by swapping your pet or using your pet’s command attack.
I’m OK with these changes because it just means that Skullcracker becomes more useful because of our low CD reflect when set up correctly. I enjoy watching them hit themselves for 6k.
My today SPvP was in theme.. How to let ranger kill on my reflects in most cool way:-D I even make one duo:-P
Ive also been enjoying this. 6-2-0-0-6 knights amulet BM powerbow build. Signet of the wild combined with sic’em and rampage as one on a fern hound traited with compassion training and invigorating bond for on demand self heals…. For the first time in months I see something enter melee range with me and I think…
“heh….bring it”
All the longbow rangers I saw in spvp last night melted pretty quick. Reflect & hard cc ftw. Much better in wvw where you can hide in the crowd.
you dont even need reflect. just killed 3 of them on my ele. protection or simple dodges against the burst. chill against mobility. that’s it.
rapid fire is not only way faster now but can also be dodged better. 1 dodge, 80% of the skill misses.
I’ll reserve final judgement till later on, but for now I don’t think the update is over powered at all. As many have have stated it can be both reflected and dodged easier. Plus Rangers were sub par beforehand. Hopefully now they will have a better run of things.
How does this work if faced with reflects? I mean, you depend on either those not being there or heading close into the killzone, no?
the main issue.is that they buffed something with such a low skill floor/ceiling. so there are alot of people auto attacking thier faces off.

Don’t you think the fact that people are getting melted so easily means that it’s actually quite difficult to play?
Even already I’ve seen so so many more Eles and Warriors bringing reflects to deal with the Rangers, and that’s great.
There’s nothing wrong with Rangers being made good enough that people actually need to concider them a threat, whereas before noone really gave a thought a LB ranger they just assumed it was a free kill.
With the possible exception of Necromancers, every case has plenty of tools to deal with the buffs, they just need to learn to use them
I seriously doubt it’ll be nerfed. It has a “new car smell” that’ll wear off when people get used to it. By then, most people will be prepared to deal with it and it won’t be as problematic. Any ranger who lets their entire rapid fire get reflected back at them deserves to die. :p
Wait what? I must admit I don’t run sPvP much, but seriously?! You can survive in there in zerker gear with 1 passive condi removal every 10 seconds and no stability what so ever? I am amazed. A condi build with 6 stacks of bleed will negate your heal, and if you have poison on you as well you are basically screwed. Entangle will be laughed at by anyone who is not stuck with a ranged condi weapon for 5 seconds. This is a legit build that you think is OP?! I need to get back to drink precious qq tears to the ranger forums to clear my head.
Glad to see people are seeing that it’s not op at all and that it is EXTREMELY easy to evade.

Yeah, the perception was getting a little ridiculous for a while. People were confusing up to snuff with over powered after they were so under powered for so long.
Between dodge rolls, reflection, protection, and retaliation, I am not finding the new power ranger overpowered, just ‘good’.
To be honest, I am having a lot of fun this patch with my Guardian
I ran it a few times for lolz and it was certainly faceroll material. If you can sit back on a team fight and just focus down whoever is stunned/immob you can clear a team quite quickly. It’s certainly more deadly than the warrior longbow, deserving of the ranger class. Rapid Fire can kitten you up pretty quickly those damage multipliers add up, I think I had 60% between traits, scholar runes and SotW.
the main issue.is that they buffed something with such a low skill floor/ceiling. so there are alot of people auto attacking thier faces off.
This is dead on, the offensive abilities of the longbow ranger are low skill ceiling. It was the defensive end that really separated the players.
Can I just take a moment to remind people of something?
The damage rapid fire does has not increased with the patch.
Before the patch, it was actually LESS dodge-able than it is now, with MORE guaranteed damage on the target.
The only different to the weapon now is the time frame in which Rapid Fire deals it’s damage, and it comes down to the point that has been argued up and down these forums now that we can compare the old sustained damage longbow to the new burst longbow; In theory, sustained damage is better because it is harder to mitigate since it is dealt consistently. However, in practice, players have a harder time reacting to burst damage based on skill ceiling/floor, resulting in burst usually having an overall higher effectiveness against players ill-equipped to handle the mechanics of burst damage.
Go up against a good player. Like, an ACTUALLY good player. You will almost never land even a hit of rapid fire, because they know to counter the longbow, they have to dodge the skill and get into melee where dodging “through” a character cancels their cast, and incidentally, the autoattack damage is also at its lowest at close range.
If rapid fire is “still landing one or two hits,” it always did this. In fact, before the patch, you could double dodge and still be hit with ~5 hits of Rapid Fire versus the 2-3 you might land now, and the damage per arrow hasn’t increased.
ANet has stated explicitly, multiple times, that players shouldn’t be able to 100% completely negate the efforts of opposing players, because it’s already enough to be able to render them so ineffective that you should be more than capable of achieving a win against them.
The longbow is EXACTLY where it needs to be at now. If anything is broken after the patch, it’s the will of all of the bad players who can’t seem to figure out that they actually have MORE options to counter longbow users now.
I do agree with some of the arguments… it is a low skill floor issue. Perhaps it is ‘too easy’ to deal that kind of damage. But a lot of burst skills in this game fall into that category. Most of which because they’re instant cast. But if you look at the burst skills that aren’t instant cast, most of them are trivialized and aren’t used or are ineffective.
Is the issue perhaps related to how this skill lines up with other skills available to the class/weapon? Namely that they’re all instant cast and the Ranger relies too heavily on auto attack to account for the bulk of their damage?
I agree with the general opinion that the skill simply isn’t overpowered. It’s not blowing other similar skills out of the water in damage. It does much less than 100b. Only does about 10-15% more damage than volley. Etc etc. Players are just overwhelmed because the Ranger is the new toy that everyone wants to play with atm.
But how could you raise the skill floor with the class at this stage in the game without completely overhauling everything?
ha low skill floor, signet SoS,SotW and in general Qz on its own are all one button uses each with a long cooldown (untraited) , with no passive Traits to copy these untility skills.
these signets make it a low skill floor because of that reason along they are all click and forget then auto these are the bad rangers , if you can’t kill these you need to get some better defence.
lasting out 16secs is nothing when you block, dodge and blind or the sorts after the poor ranger is done with his panic buttons go to town and squish it..Just like it was before the patch!.
wah wah overall the Lb on its own got a 10%dps buff and a 10% situational damage buff vs mobility conditioned targets.
short range ya 17% damage bonus it was need it hit so little pre-patch the base Regen of most classes out Regen, the base damage of a short range shot.
QQ all you want all these changes are a Sum of all the changes that have happened this patch to pretty much bring rangers back into a state of Balance without Breaking Game machanics , you say RF is too much lol , if Anets changes this to a Out right Damage Buff on autos or barrage get ready for some 4k autos!
The LB is better but its not OP the damage has pretty much always been possible. We can finally burst somewhat as well as other classes and people QQ. Wheres the crying about 15k 100b every 5 sec or thief backstabs and what not?

Lol why would people cry anywhere near as hard about burst skills that put you into the fray?
Rapid fire is so strong atm. It forces you to dodge if you don’t have another defense method, and even if you dodge you’ll still take 3k damage at base toughness.
It’s pretty nuts at the moment.

It’s actualy easier to dodge rapid fire now than it was before since the time between arrows are so closely spaced. Before 1 dodge would still get you hit by half the arrows. 3k sounds better than 7k

And? One reflect and that zerker ranger will hit the floor themselves. What’s the problem specifically? High risk, high re… well, mostly risk. :P
Passively killing a souped-up ranger due to Spiked Armor and said ranger not noticing his health dropping = Gw2 doesnt get any better.

That much damage that fast and from that far away is broken.
Sorry I’m all for build diversity and allowing for more avenues of play but when something is broken/bad for game it needs to go.
The new rapid fire falls under that category
Sorry but it’s true
Im a ranger and thief, and as a ranger.
(Not my video)
Rangers are way to strong now, i am aware of;
- Some of them are low levels
- He picks the squishy targets
- He runs realyl squishy build
But that dosn’t change the fact that power rangers are way to strong now. They needed a buff for sure, no doubt. But this is pathetic. (but fun!)
I hope they balance the skills a little, i feel like im to stong.
Most of the ranger builds you guys are suggesting melt against condition damage since most of you don’t seem to want to take EB or SotF.

Of course it’s a power/LB ranger both SotF and EB are far to far away from LB traits… getting HS/SoR reduce that problem

Should also mention literally none of his targets dodge at all, like not once. Yes the dmg is coming fast, but honestly that is why dodge is in the game, it would negate just about the entire rapid.
Really this is just another build that shines at jacking clueless people in wvw, which I am all for. Keep the hilarious videos coming imo. Most competent players will wreck a glassy ranger like that.
If you only have to worry about one skill a player uses, you should be able to beat him.
It’s the good rangers that when you get into melee with them just smile and eat you that you should be worried about … and they aren’t OP either … just used to winning fights before the buffs so now they are thoroughly enjoying getting bigger returns on their investment in learning the class.

yup, finally getting some return from 1600 hours of “rangering”

That’s exactly how I feel. I loved LB/GS from the beginning.
Wait are people defending 12 -13k bursts coming from on top of a mountain 1500 range away??
ROFLMAO
Too funny
How is this different than volley or killshot for Warrior :/

I’m fine with burst but the animation and speed need a hotfix I just switch to SB or use SR I can kill them but I do get hate for using SA.
It is funny that they are saying it’s perfect but to me it look like a childish kind of revenge and lust(most LB rangers I saw were noobs…)
(edited by Sagat.3285)
Sooo…. you guys would be ok with 1200 range same cast time same damage? I mean its easy to dismiss RF as is, but how would you balance ranger with longbow? The only thing going for it is range, and there are too many ways of taking that away from them.

Animation and speed need a hot fix as soon as possible, I do understand ranger is supposed to have the highest single target ranged burst but all they needed was the burst part traits for speed and range already existed.
I can’t help but laugh at those who claim longbow rangers are overpowered now. The new patch has been out for like, a day. Give it time for people to adapt and learn the counters, of which there are many, before declaring something broken.
What is wrong with animation? I don’t understand. What needs a hotfix? Its a channeled skill that is now a shorter cast compared to previously. I was under the impression that most people complain because of signets (even if they don’t realize). Previously you could do the same damage. Without the grandmaster trait for signets you can now do this damage from 1500 away. How does this relate to animation or speed?

Says they guy who has previous post defending killshots range damage and thief’s damage from stealth?
What is the difference between a thief hitting you from stealth, in which you have no counter play to avoid the skill that you cannot see coming compared to a ranger hitting you from range in a situation that you can see it coming?

The difference is that Traw doesn’t play a Ranger. :P
What is the difference between …..?
The answer is intelligence and common sense.

I have certainly felt a void of both of them on the RF QQ.
all i can think of is , Remembering the pre patch days of theifs two hitting defenceless Rangers with only SoS and Gs block to save ourselfs or hitting like wet paper as a condi bunker was only good for roaming.
now we have options where they matter, we can Zerg , we can do damage , we are no longer that old paper bag class the other classes picked on.
times are changing deal with it.
if i see some one running around with no Vit stats hope to god they will learn a lesson some times too much power is a bad thing, that will lead you to be dead in one burst a reason why i run 20khp base > 23k with food and stacks.

I dont defend KS at all. Yet it’s channelling is how long until damage and highly telegraphed. Rapid is not
Thieves backstab damage is no where near 13k from 1500 units away. Melee damage should always be greater than ranged. Balance 101.
It’s ok it’ll get adjusted
