The range of all long bow attacks (with eagle eye trait) should be reduced to 1500 (like it reads).

Actually, all projectiles continue traveling past their stated maximum range, depending on your elevation in relation to the target. I’ve tested it before, even my elementalist’s fireball will travel further than the stated 1,200 range if I’m standing on slightly higher ground. You can still hit a character outside your effective range by spamming the auto attack because of this, the ability just won’t go off on it’s own anymore.

Personally I like this little fact. It makes it feel a bit more realistic, since your projectile shouldn’t just disappear after a certain range. However, if you nerf the longbow by taking this detail away shouldn’t every projectile weapon suffer a similar fate?

actually, the damage multiplier for LB2 is horrible. its 0.37986 per arrow, or something close to that.

So horrible. For a total of 10 arrows per cast, it means a very weak 3.75 total coefficient damage. Think about it : it’s only slightly more than a thief that does C&D and Backstab on a target!

Well we could make them glancing blows (-50% damage) when they are out of range. Far more realistic.

I dunno about that. The extra range really only comes into play in WvWvW when defending a tower. Being up on the walls and spamming 1 so you can get a few pot shots at the guys who are standing just out of range of your skills can be useful. Defending a tower is already an uphill battle, I wouldn’t want to blanket nerf projectiles because some people are having a hard time with one build of one profession that really isn’t very hard to counter to begin with.

Any1 who think ranger LB is now “balanced” deserve to have this great game supa pro balance team

Man it is crazy the amount of warriors that pop in to claim another profession is OP.

Is your first name “Pot”? Do you have a “kettle” on speed dial that you call?

I’m actually quite happy that rangers got their very own viable glass cannon build now. but… this… “it’s only slightly more than a thief that does C&D and Backstab on a target!”. that’s just… wrong. especially considering how many times the burst on the d/d thief set has been nerfed in the past because “it’s just too much for other players”.

lol, you mean the backstab you do with no animations or tells the opponent can see because you are invisible?

And you can’t do backstab from range? Are you a moron? Backstab animation into steal is a ranged backstab.

Thief and warrior both have defensive abilities that allow them to melee, either via blind spam or target drops from stealth or healing signet and plate armor.

Ranger melee defensive boils down to signet of stone every 60 seconds. Then he dies.

Signet of Stone is an 80 second cooldown now.

I will say this very simple . . .

It feels OP because it has range.

Backstab, 100b, Ranger 2hW, and other melee skills (that could compete with rapid fire damage) when used, you expose your self in the middle of the battle and take a lot of damage from all the AOE and kitten in the moment.

With Rapid Fire you can just stay out of the fight kill fast and move away to be safe.

I see a lot of rangers trying to defend the buff saying that you can evade . . . come on guys in the middle of a fight evades are very limited . . . you are telling me that i should save all my evades waiting for a ranger to attack me?

You know why it’s not OP? Because it has range. Everytime a ranger uses RF from afar you have time to notice that and evade. You have no warning before you get hit by a backstab.

I think RF needs a bigger tell, like a killshot, eviscerate, heartseeker, etc. I don’t mind dodging it, but it’s too difficult to distinguish between RF and the other arrows LB rangers are firing at you. Fighting a group of LB rangers makes it even harder.

Maybe have them glow red or change the way they hold the bow or something. Right now, with so many LB rangers running around, it’s pretty hard to dodge the LF before realizing you’re getting hit and eating most of the damage.

I’m actually legitimately surprised you have a hard time differentiating Rapid Fire from the auto attack. It makes a fairly distinct sound due to the arrows being fired off at such an incredible speed, and even in crowded team fights with AoE blasts going off I can usually tell when there’s a flurry of arrows coming at me as oppose to a single arrow.

I don’t play with sound on, so that might be part of the problem. And when fighting so many LB rangers, there are arrows flying every which way, so it gets pretty hard to differentiate. The way I dodge attacks is by looking at the enemy player, and the RF animation isn’t very distinctive.

By the time you hear the super fast pew pew pew sound you would of have taken more than half the rapid fire damage.

This is especially true if the ranger has quickness.

Combine it with damage boosts and a ranger can down some classes from 1500+ range extremely quickly with no chance to counter.

For instance. I was playing my mesmer after the patch, a friend was on his ele & another was on his ranger.
By stacking might & quickness along with signet of the wild my ranger friend was able to down a few people before they knew WTF hit them.

All that being said however I believe that while rapid fire damage should be reduced they should increase the damage/utility of some other skills to compensate.
Otherwise you will end up with rangers sucking again.

I honestly got barely even hit by Quicknessboosted RF after patch, everybody and his mother runs it so i use a dodge roll when a ranger gets in range, that rangers burst is down for about 50 sec and he is a Walking lootbag again
PLUS, this was actually possible before patch too

I am actually happy about the RF buff.

Remember the good old days when warrior was the lowest tier in pvp food chain. How many times we use L2P to defend our 100b? Yet everyone claims warrior are OP and press 2 to win.

Is it ranger’s turn press 2 to win? Guys, they can’t even walk away from stood still 3.5s 100b, how can you expect they can dodge a run and gun 1500 ranged 100b?q

lol true if they can’t dodge a 100bs , it must be realy hard for them to dodge a long range RF , for now my stance is they arn’t op but powerful for that one Build/spec set up.

when people learn when rangers use Rf and learn the difference between its attacks,
its also got a very limited Cycle rotaion of skill that are normaly always in the same combination, and become very easy to Predict.

if people are worried about being flank shotted by Rf thats just how Wvw goes , get flank shotted by a Ele or gs mesmer beserker clone it may not be 1000+range but it will have the same effect , you’ll run or hide behind a player or go on the defensive.
the only difference is 100-500 yards, there are skills out there that have near to the same range only 300 yards less.

but getting flanked or caught unawares is just how it works.

Longbow damage is pretty bad at melee range, there is nothing the ranger can do to kite you once you get into melee range. And every class I know of besides Mesmer and Necro has some sort of spammable gap closer.

Where is it a problem?? In WvW?? Where you do not have to defend points, where you can get a lot more stats through ascended items, where you can stack both bloodlust AND guard kill stacks and get up to 2700 power. Sure its a bit of an annoyance there, but then again there are PU mesmers, PD thieves, reflect warriors and other great roamer builds.
Zerg warfare will remain the same. Its about movement and not dying.

So, now you have to take rangers into account and not longer being a free kill? What the hell are you all whining about. Power rangers with kittenloads of damage of longbow rather drop hard if you focus him/her and evade a rapid fire and close the gap to make AA of it hit less hard. Just like the ranger had to work around to kill other classes like warriors and thieves. This buff is not OP as some stated.

And yes i play ranger and nope not witha long or a shortbow.

No they dont, all necro and most ele projectiles got nerfed to just fade off past their intended range very early on (and staffs skills+Lich with 2nd fractal update).

So today in a couple of hotjoins I decided to not use LB2 in any 1 on 1s. And, not surprisingly, people were still blaming lack of skill on me playing an OP class. I thought this was kinda funny since I was basically playing a pre-patch signet build.

The QQ about this has been hilarious. Literally you have 1 thing to watch for from a power ranger at range. Dodge it.

You also have to watch out for PBS; otherwise, he’ll use it to get rapid fire attacks on you.

I see plenty of PBS + Rapid fire.

Hunter shot is also something to worry about if you want the ranger to die. Otherwise, he’ll disappear and then reappear to use rapid fire from the otherside of the room at 1500 range.

Hunter’s Shot is only three seconds of stealth. If the ranger can clear 1,500 range in three seconds they either switched to greatsword for Swoop or have super speed.
