While I like your idea, I think it would suffice to let us use at least 1 or 2 more of our pets skills and tweak a little the IA.
-Byebye go-to / comeback-from buttons, welcome 2 new usable pet skills (they’re already there, but now we can actually decide when to use that poison field or that nice stun).
-Passive/agressive button changed to work also as go to or come back.
I prefer yours, but seems a bit too much to ask to be honest.
Thats why the title is (im)possible new mechanic. Because I know it would be alot of works but i think it would be awsome

new Grandmaster trait: swapping seasons creates a 1 second combo field at your current location based on season (summer = fire field, fall = smoke field? (hunt theme), winter = ice field, spring = water field)

Too big of a change I think.
+1 I would prefer them not being dependant on season they should be accessible at any time. Worth looking at.

So, you want to add a completely new F1-F4 mechanic, and keep pets to the side….why? This mechanic does nothing to fix the current problems that pets have. If you remove their damage, then, due to the lack of and proposed/implemented fixes (or any fixes at all), they end up even worse than they were before. so have them still?

1st: Anet told many time they want ranger to have pets.
2nd: This will fix the problem since the pet wont have to track target to deal dps since it will be removed. The only thing that might affect them is their special triggering ability but it would be their only one. Since each pets has usually a interesting F2 and another AI driven interesting ability, now you get 4 at will ability instead of 2 at will and 2 random one.
I think it would fix the pet problems… (also some utilities should be completly removed aka shouts…)
Still going to have to say I don’t like the idea very much. It would be cool to see Rangers with attunements and see our skills change as a result, but its only going to be just that. Its going to be a copy of the Elementalist, just with a nature theme. I don’t want to be a copy of another profession, and on top of that…We have 4 seasons to manage, 4 pets to manage, 2 weapon sets to manage that change depending on the 4 seasons. That’s kind of a lot of stuff to squeeze a class mechanic into.
I’d really rather not have my pet reduced to a boon bunny that can’t do damage. It’d basically ruin the beastmaster playstyle. And the fact every pet would have the same F2 ability based on the season would mean different pets would be reduced to different skins, removing the most interesting aspect of making a ranger build for me, which is deciding what pets compliment my build.
This idea doesn’t fix pets, it removes them from being at all relevant to the profession.

Personally I enjoy the management aspect of the Ranger profession.
Wishlist – eventually be able to charm a tiger spider pet.
