There’s also the fact that once the backstab is done, the thief is left in 130 range of the guy he downed, which might very well be in very close proximity to the rest of his friends so he needs some escape plan.

P/P unload used twice has a higher DPS than RF and the same casting duration.

You don’t understand my post I guess. The point was that the current situation is extremely similar to the complaints about 100blades and Backstab. And the L2P posts. And the nerfs that happened anyway.
So when you say to L2P and stop complaining, history seems to show it’s not the best route to take :o Myself I don’t care too much. I use a Ranger and have fun with RS, and I do think it needs a change but whatever.
Maybe it will get nerfed, maybe it wont, but that doesn’t mean a significant change in the meta is a bad thing. We have patches only twice a year and frankly most of them go past with a few changes here and there but ultimately no real change in what class people are playing and no real change in how people build. The fact that this time they have managed to make one of the worst / least liked professions useful and dangerous, as well as encouraging people to make new builds which incorperate skills which previously went unused (such as reflects) to counter this is a GOOD thing.

These baby rangers are playing high risk, high reward builds. It will hurt to face tank the damage but if you avoid even part of the burst they are ridiculously easy to kill.
I have yet to lose to a single one of them across every profession including necro.

Warrior burst skills wassnt hard to dodge either > they are now one of the most telegraphic skills in the game..
And the funny part is they where giving warriors more sustain and bind it all together with adrenaline burst skills before making the burst skill that more telegraphic..
And ofc many dmg nerfs or other weird nerfs like 100b/ww nerf or the SOR..
And the moment its up people are already QQ about something else on warriors.
Now that i have been playing warrior for 2 years it issnt that much about L2p.. its more wich class has the most OP build and how much QQ gets 1 build before getting nerfed or even buffed (you never know with anet weird balancing)

What kind of changes are you guys honestly expecting?
At most, RF will see a 10% damage nerf to bring it down to what volley is capable of. All skills should stop at their max range, so if ANet wants to fix staff, scepter, and bows for everyone, I’m fine with it affecting Ranger.
Beyond that what’s left to complain about? Despite the changes, the class is still horribly weak and in need of improvements elsewhere. Will dropping damage by 10% and adjusting max range to be really 1500 allow us to discuss the issues still plaguing the class? Or are people under the impression that all the class needed was a burst skill to make it complete?
It makes me laugh because when im not running LB im running axe and still wrecking idiots in pvp including most of the time the so called longbow ranger who just happen to run on the very kind of mechanics that increase my dps… pets (just have a taste of my 25 might pet build, you wont like the next ferocious bite my cat will score on your sad head the moment it split your hp in half!) The most hilarious is the mesmer they just keep spamming their illusion and supply me with an endless amount of might stacking, no seriously the only reason people suck so much against ranger now is because they are way to used to them as a lootbag and cant level up to the new challenge they pose as an actual all out long range class having for to long speced as pure melee fighters and behing unable to counter something that runs on long range (get some teleport and close up charges guys its so easy to just spam a bullrush or steal to close the way in if not to use a meditation so what is your excuse).

Then what would be the point of having a ranger, when you can just go warrior( which is what the meta has been for how many months now?), and have better damage because of the burst skill.

PBS needs an animation that isn’t another arrow like the auto attack.
and it needs a windup.
Signet of the Wild- No other signet gives a player an extra 25% damage boost. for 8 seconds.
I would say 10% for the ranger- 25% for the pet
Oh I don’t think it needs a nerf, but I’m a Ranger so I’m biased. ‘IF’ it does get nerfed, I’m just warning the playerbase at large that the nerf is likely not going to be very big.
As to PBS, I don’t mind a telegraph so it’s easier to spot, but do you feel it needs an activation time too? Seems like most of these defensive cooldowns are instant cast with little/no telegraph or activation time.
I also agree with you that SotW is over budget. I would ask that if they do nerf the damage that they consider retooling SotH to do something other than a MoO attack and perhaps make SotW instant cast since the lack of an instant cast stability is quite a pain.
if they changed Sotw , i’d be happy with a 20% damage buff because anyless wouldn’t even be worth using the skill and loosing the hp regen, its kinda like the problem healing sig had , is it worth using its active if the damage buff gets nurfed.
if it did get reduced to 15-20%, i would say only make the pet bigger not the ranger , but hell A Ranger growing like Mario is a Clear visual that his Gained Stabilty anyway.

its already 1200 yards base This range Determins if the auto attack is in range (without traits , or hills / cliffs to shoot off)
if pressed manualy only auto attack will reach 1400-1500yards(no cliffs) but at this range other LB skills are not in range.
1800-2000yards (with traits and Elevated ground with Manual Pressing Auto attack out of range)
range for pistols is 920 – 1,080 base only a difference of 120 yards between the two at base range.
anyless than 1200yards wouldn’t make it a longbow anymore, though 2000yards is more then eagle eye is traited for(at 1500yards ground level shooting Auto attacks in range) 1800yards manual, 2400yards is possible but it needs a very high Elevation and a Stationary target and Manual pressing of 1 to even hit once or twice plus only works on the Long Range shot option other skills will not work.
two steps away from a ranger at 2400yards on a cliff can simple be walked away from.
in Pvp the maps are small- medium size with Objects blocking LoS and most of the time the Ranger will be in range of 1500yards or less and most pvp maps are 4000-5000 yards wide , From left to right Not including walk ways or some widing rock vally with Objects blocking LoS.
also Manual Long Range skill 1 shots from over 1500yards can be Avoided by pressing A and D or Q>E what ever your Side stepping buttons are Reduces the arrows hitting Dramaticly Read the wind or not that don’t effect its Range)

Its been 2 years the LB have been this way… 2 years… and you complain now? All 2 handed ranged dps based weapon has range + CC. Ex: Mesmer’s greatsword #5, Rifle warrior #5, Engi rifle #2 and #4… But i guess only ranger LB is worthy of a nerf because of the range! (I don’t look at you mesmer greatsword that reach 1200)

It’s really easy to pull of vs noobs.
Really hard to pull off vs people that know what to do.
I have fought a mesmer,ele,warrior, and guardian that pretty much kept me mid -melee range.
and I have played my mesmer and done the same thing to rangers that pew pew and think no one has a reflect.
This build will make it as a hotjoin hero build.
Time will tell if we actually see a good team oriented ranged build

I never said that, I was replying to someone thinking Warrior had the same range as Ranger on a Longbow by default to correct a small mistake. People are too much on the defensive here XD

I can barely hear you over all the crying. But no, I said adept to new metas (that is if the ranger even has a place in the top tier pvp meta even with the buffs), not to rangers specifically. If you’re one of the many people that never paid much attention to rangers before patch, then yes, you might need to learn how to counter a class that was always there but you never cared much for.

As a melee ranger I haven’t had a single problem with a longbow ranger since patch, and I would bet that is partly because I know the class. Not only its strengths and how to counter them, but also how it limits itself when speccing for full longbow damage.
The buff has enabled the power Ranger in a number of scenarios. It is fun, effective, but not OP. Comparisons to 100B fall severely short considering that 100B cleaves, is melee, and cannot be reflected. Furthermore, the faster cast time of RF means that more of it can be dodged / blocked, and at high ranges, you can even just sidestrafe the arrows and avoid a number of the shots.
I think the skill is in a perfect spot now. Any stronger and I’d say it is too strong, but it is perfect in its current form. A Ranger has to sacrifice a number of survivability traits and weapons to tech deep into Longbow efficiency, and that comes at a severe cost.
You can beat them; they are just no longer something you see in the open field and laugh at as you bowl them over. That’s very good for all metas.

I think the point is that all of a sudden everyone else has to adapt, did rangers adapt to dancing dagger or cry endlessly until anet gave it a 50% damage nerf? Did people adapt to the cloak and dagger->steal->backstab or did they cry until anet gave cnd a 33% damage nerf and make steal unable to crit? Did people adapt to black powder or cry until it got nerfed? same goes for every sword and shortbow skill.
Now its time for them to feel the nerf hammer, how about a 50% damage hit, or unable to crit?
I may be alone on this, but I personally feel that the only problem right now is the animation. Every arrow looks about the same (especially when you’re standing at 1500 range). If I was able to learn the animation of each skill, particularly the knock back, then I would be fine fighting rangers.
Other than that, I’m just sad that roaming has taken a bit of a hit. I mean beforehand I could potentially win a 1v2 or even on occasion a 1v3, but when I’m up against a group of 2 or more people trying out their rangers, I don’t stand a chance. I die once I’ve gotten to about 500 range haha. But that’s just me giving QQ is all. :P
yeah reflect have long cooldowns, but if u manage to reflect a rapid fire only once, im gonna eat at least 50% of my health cuz im full glass cannon too.
You must be really good, because when I get my attacks reflected I either dodge roll or cancel immediately, taking only 1-2 arrows, then down them after 7 seconds or so, which is basically when rapid fire is off CD again.
I play a ranger too. The issue is not how much damage it dishes out, but how very, very, very easy it is to do it.
The class was never a joke, its just not a lot of people, at least the ones that voice their opinions about it, really knew how to play it well.
perhaps I should have said “up to 50%” because of how fast rapid fire is, when its being reflected, its pretty kitten difficult to instantly tell if its getting reflected, and because Im full glass, (full ascended zerker everything) even 3-4 arrows of it will do up to 8K to me. I can dodge or cancel but im still gonna eat 3-4, maybe more, before most likely

AND do your rangers know there is another classes playing glass build even with light armor .And they do have to manage their burst unlike your one button RF.
try telling a distortion/mirror on mesmer from 1500 away with RTW and QZ——- all you’ll see is arrowtrails going both ways instantly. Or a missile deflection shield/sword warrior.
Wall of reflection, swirling winds, magnetic aura, daggerstorm – those are easy to tell

anyway, war adrenaline got nerfed cause using for example (just an example)eviscerate, if it did land, awesome success!, if not, swap weapons and skullcrack!, if both didnt land he can just retry in 7-8 s, its also one of the things that made warrior so dam easy to play, now it takes more than just that

Hey, i recently found out thieves got this awesome skill called Shadowstep. Guess what!!!?! It instantly teleports them up to 1200 units away. What does this mean?
I’ll reveal that just for you, my friend.
It means that the thief is out of melee range and can stealth freely to reset fight. Or instantly teleport back to perform one of their signature bug abusing stomps.

I decided to share some thoughts, althought I’m affraid people who could/would appreciate it won’t take the effort to read 3 pages of QQ to read it. Anyway here goes.
To start off I would like to start by sharing with you that – even though there was a video about the rise of the bearbow which I found REALLY funny – unless you played ranger for the last 1.5-2 years, played zerker longbow ranger for at least 2-3 months, tried and dropped at least a good 12 builds in the process, you have no idea what these buffs mean to rangers. I know 0 kittens will be given by some, and I will give exactly 0 kittens for whining from thieves, eles, warriors, guardians in return. Mesmers, necros and engies have some of my sympathy. Our past does not justify this no matter what you think of the changes of course.
People complaining about rapid fire are either chosing their wording poorly or are clueless. There are a few changes which make what is now possible… well possible. I feel that the investment rangers have to make to pull of some numbers being thrown around are a pretty substantial trade off for that damage. Ranger are weak against everything in the game when they are a full glass LB ranger with RtW and points in Skirmishing.
Some of the issues 1by1:
- They deal lot of damage too easy. True, in return they are killed too easy too.
- They just need to be at a place hard to reach and can avoid combat. I think this like many other complaints will go away, when people will run options that can help them deal with rangers. I’m sure rangers can start a fight from 1500, but I seriously doubt theye can stay at 1500 the whole fight. And if they can’t, you can deal with them.
- RF is like 100b at 1500 range. In return ranger is far easier to kill then a warrior.
- It is far to easy to deal damage with RF. It is also very easy to shut it down. Weakness, protection, reflect, block, line of sight, retaliation, confusion, daze, stun are all ways of dealing with it. And chances are your class has options to deal with it. Also… dodge. Srsly. Dodge. If you don’t bother giving up some of your endurance bar, then suffere the consequences.
- Why should I adjust my build just because ranger RF has been buffed? Well why should I adjust my build to deal with any condi build, or thieves, or hammer warriors, or mesmers… see where this is going?

Rangers were, still and will always be a free kill.
this free kill crap again , only BAD rangers are Easy to take down.
Generalising the term free kill will just get us more Buffs because Everyone and their mother will still be hunting us down because of said free kill, stop using this term.only bad players die or they get outplayed.

i just / facepalm if your thinking in 1vs1 terms Im out because that thinking is Extreamely Bias to one Situation .

Now, now. There is no need to get desperate. Sometimes others can be right too. Also if a longbow ranger cannot be killed with ease in a team vs team fight, that is very sad in deed.

well if you people want a Fresh out look on the game, I’d say this the Meta is Dictated by the people and build composition of a group of players, if your happy Seeing All Melee for onther 2 years Be my guest but this Free kill Nonsance Isn’t going to improve things as it Reflects a light of Negative views on these Changes that Are happening to make Yes make Rangers Easier to Learn , So we can change this All Melee meta thats been running for Donkey years .
if being bored of running the same things day in day out is what this game is going to be like , i’d rather push for change and that Includes the Term Free kill , because this term enlights that this class isn’t worth taking (and people tend to not look any ferther than that term , not thinking anymore into it)
and that alone Can stop progession of A Community that is Suprisingly happy with a All Melee meta still.

Fun fact:
P/P unload used twice has a higher DPS than RF and the same casting duration.
That’s not even a fact:
2xUnload = 1.75×2 = 3.5 seconds of casting (without counting the aftercast of the first unload)
Rapid Fire = 2.5 seconds of casting.
And, btw, you can’t really compare Rapid Fire to Unload, and I think that you probably already know why :P
