What 2 Classes Should ANet Fix?
Engineer comes to mind, just due to the turret bugs and the underwhelming gadgets. Elementalists also come to mind with their traits and utility skills.
Warrior (nerf)
ele (buff)
me (buff)
anything I can’t beat (nerf)
In all seriousness, you have to define things more than that to be useful. Do you mean in PvE, WvW, PvP or everywhere?
Ranger and Ele both need buffs. I don’t feel Warriors need to be toned down enough to warrant letting Elementalist and Ranger issues slide for another year.
Warrior (buff)
All other (nerf)
That’s how Anet works lads. Vigor nerfs, poison nerfs, etc to all classes guess which class buff…..
Buffing and nerfing are over simplified methods of “fixing” a class. Instead of saying (Buff), or (Nerf). Why don’t you list the certain aspects of the classes that you deem to be broken?
If I was to put forth my own opinion I would say that Rangers and Elementalists need to have various skills and utilities either buffed, or reworked. Both classes suffer from a severe lack of viable builds. This would be remedied by looking at traits/skills that are not used often.
Ya cuz every thread listing certain aspects of classes to be buffed has received so much dev attention. At least this way we dont waste time.
Buff
ranger
ele
Elementalist (buff)
Elementalist (buff)
I’m so good at this.
My thoughts are that this thread is ripe for trolling.
Instead of simply saying “nerf x, buff y”, you should list detailed reasons and exact examples of the kind of things you are looking for.
This second part isn’t aimed at you OP so don’t take offense. But this profession balance board has become nothing more than a qq fest for people to yell out for nerfs everytime they get stomped.
op classes shouldnt be able to stomp.
If you want detailed reasons there’s plenty of threads..I think this particular thread makes a nice simplistic survey of the classes that need help and the classes that are ridiculously OP.
Pretty much the intention is to be simple as could be.
Pick the class ANet should tone down.
Pick the class ANet should improve.
Simple.
Why? Because typically patches that “take a pass” at 8 classes worth of balance just can’t get enough done versus focusing.
Warrior (buff)
All other (nerf)That’s how Anet works lads. Vigor nerfs, poison nerfs, etc to all classes guess which class buff…..
Unfortunately, this is true. It is rather odd that the things that COULD be dangerous to Warrior seem to be all the things that get nerfed…
Elementalist (buff)
Ranger (massive buff)
Fojja – Vyxxi – Nymmra – Mymmra – Champion of Dwayna .. and more
Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
Ele – Slight buff (this is my main – there’s a risk of overdoing this to become OP)
Thief – Survivability buff (PvE)
Ranger – kinda start over. Absolutely the least fun class I’ve played yet (haven’t played Guardian or Warrior). Such a rethink will be hard, since Rangers have typically focused toward being acceptable in any “trinity” role… no trinity makes rangers weird to use in this game. After that decision and redesign, skills being non-synergetic or not worth using will take care of themselves via replacement.
Nerf everything and everyone.
“What 2 Classes Should ANet Fix?”
Two?! All.
Warriors and Engineers need a nerf in their deffense.
They have to many hardcounter.
-Charr Thief-
It’s good to be bad!
Engineer.
It’s been about a year and a half since launch and the turret skills haven’t been fixed. Every single turret skill has at least one bug, and all of the turret traits have bugs. A class is not balanced when a quarter of its skills do not behave as advertised.
Elementalist [Buff]
Warrior [Nerf]
All [Fix]
Once proud member of Extraordinary Gentlemen [EXG]{DESO4LIFE}
Necromancer [Buff]
Necromancer [Buff]
Buff Ranger
Buff Ele
Sorry Necros and Engis, I know you need love as well, but OP said two.
@OP: A thread like this is pointless. You need to specific what type of game mode. Anyone who answers without specifying is either new or only plays in one game mode (PvE, PvP, or WvW). Even within those, there are differences, but the 3 are good at a high level.
“Fix” implies addressing things like bugs and stuff. Which should be everyone.
If we’re talking Nerf/Buff, then in my opinion:
Warrior (Nerf)
Ranger (Buff) <—- I only didn’t say Ele because they seem to getting looked at in the next patch, so fingers crossed
well as im more for buffing than nerfing:
mesmer: nerf/buff nerf 1v1 abilities/ buff wvw raid mesmer(give us aoe)
ranger:buff for wvw
[AVTR]
Isle of Kickaspenwood
well why just 2?
but if I have to chose I’d say the same as you:
warrior (nerf) – just because of healing signet :P
ranger (buff) – dps builds like trapper and power ranger are too weak.
Its a simple question guys, no need to bash anet :P
Condi/Kit Engi (1-5 engi) – Nerf
Non-Spirit ranger – Buff
And ofc buff ele, or revert old nerfs.
buff ele (duh) wouldn’t even know the class existed in the game anymore if it weren’t that I have one. Anyone ever seen one in pvp? I know I ran across 1 in the entire guild I used to be in and what a surprise over half the entire guild was what?? You guess it the Warrior.
Next point
Nerf Warrior
But Anet will probably not do so.
It is amazing how companies can just blatantly ignore the mass community or even fail to realize when x class has x % of the entire game and x class used to have x % of the game but is now non existent that something is amiss.
Eventually you pull your head outa somewhere or your game dies. Look at Blizzard Anet (a company that you used to know would only release timeless pieces of work but have now adopted the we know better than you attitude and now most of their games only get complaints and pros leaving in waves).
the few critics that try your game for a week and give it a 8-10 don’t keep you game going or alive it is the community that pays your bills. wake up. Too long has the ele been trash patch after patch and even more nerfs even after not one tourney had an ele in the team anymore. Does that warrant more nerfs to you really?
Anyway just kittened after getting one shot killed multiple time all night again even though if at full zerker I couldn’t even hit them as hard as a spring breeze.
Still a hopeful fan since GW1 just don’t screw the ele as long as you did in GW1 I don’t have those kinda patience anymore.
Thief. Not nerf or buff, just fix annoyances like the Last Refuge trait which provides a nice handy Revealed debuff right when you don’t want it and is a minor so you can’t go into Shadow without taking it…
Also rangers… do something with Longbow. Anything.
Having played a thief, warrior, elementalist, ranger, guardian and nerco all to 80. I mainly wvwed with each of them over 100 hours, here is my ranking on them from mainly that point of view.
1. Ranger – Bunch a problems with pets. They do not work in wvw or Pve. No excuse for pet missing so much. Increase their movement speed to account for the crappy AI. Copy WoW if you have to or even Star Wars Galaxies, they seemed to have pets right.
2. Necro – Necro either needs more leeching to account for its lousy mobility or some leap mobility skills. Makes no sense when you compare them to other tanking classes.
3. Elementalist – Been awhile since I played mine, but I never liked how I was forced into defense so much. If I am going to be a pocket rocket, give me more offense. Bright wizard of warhammer comes to mind.
4. Guardian – Great in zerg warfare. Wish some of the teleport skills were non-targeted leaps, but it is a solid class. Vitality should get a bump. It is a warrior class.
5. Thief – I know they are good, I just sucked at them. Ironically, they aren’t as bad as people think in zerg vs zerg. Some fun zerg builds that rack up bags and can cause a lot of havok.
6. Warrior – If you are not good at MMOs and clicking skills, warrior is great. It is also very easy. It has great mobility (which is a must in WvW). Can get 3K armor without much effort. Decent power or condition damage. The passive heal is nice. I remember using it back when it was like 230 heal per second. The day they bumped it up to 410 I didn’t read the patch notes so I had no idea. I just remember saying to myself…kitten , for some reason I am doing super awesome today. I must rock.
despite the ele situation is not good (people makes ele worrk with gimmicks…but the class lacks sustained damage coming from intended playstyle).
Guardian and Warriors in PVE are the sole responsible of stacking and easy mode…..
In WWW most trains are made of the 2 same professions, and they even shine in PvP.
I wonder how can anet says they are in a good place….
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
General – make most ai player npcs take skill to deal proper damage
Engie (turret bugfix)
Necro (fix/more synergy)
Ranger (fix/more synergy)
Warrior (nerf cc, beef skillcap to damage proportions)
Rest are is fine.
Two? Lol
1. Ranger: Needs less evade spam, less heal, and less passive.
2/3. Necro and Engie: Less Condi cleave while being tanky.
4-8.
Warrior: Proper trade offs, You go Tanky or you go Dmg not both. However if you go hybrid you should be on even ground when fighting a glass cannons and suffer the same fate for hard focus, while struggling to kill bunkers but be able to stalemate them.
Ele: are fine if you make everything else fine. >=(
Guardians: Fine mostly, upcoming vigor nerf is a nice shave to the survivability of burst guards. If something needs to be changed it should be the last thing to be, why fix what isn’t broken?
Mesmer: Shatter is fine. PU and Phant need to stop playing themselves, although counter-able or in some cases unviable they are both carried by their builds, more no risk high reward on par with ranger, necro, and engie.
Thief: burst is fine. evade spam is close to low risk high reward but at least understandable, there needs to be more trade offs. For example if you can evade spam the ability to escape needs to take a hit.
9. Hard counters needs to go, promote soft counters even if needed to be artificially forced to the point where one skill will affect a build less.
10. A.I. problems. Solution UI options: “Make classes minions see through.” "set a list of minions that are not target able but will still be affected by splash damage and AoE. " Mesmer clones not affected.
Ops went off classes. Seriously tho there’s a lot more than 2 classes that need to take hits… my frist 2 are the biggest qualms
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Elementalist Buff
Rangers Super Buff
Buff Ranger
Nerf Warrior
Engineer: Traits and the whole design is wack. Turrets don’t scale with anything so they are not useful. Too many cast times on too many minor abilities which add little to engineer’s power, e.g. toolbelt for rocket turret is basically same DPS than autoattacking, but aoe. Engineer should do more with fewer skills, and more skills should be situational, rather than general, because there’s no way in hell you can cast the whole rotation of your abilities before half of them already recharged.
Engineers are easy to chain CC unless they pack specific skills, same with immobilize, unless engy has rocket boots it’s gg.
Thief: Anyone who tries to roam soon learns about these guys, impossible to kill if they don’t screw up. Multiple invisibilities, multiple low cooldown teleports, most of which also double as stun breakers, boon stealing and ok condition cleanse. They just try to kill you repeatedly, resetting fights if it goes against them.
What takes the cake with thieves though, is that even if you correctly predict their opening attack from invisibility with a block skill or evade, you are rewarded with NOTHING. They don’t drop from invis and lose opening strike and worse yet they don’t spend initiative if they attacks don’t connect.
This is extremely wrong. I correctly predict their attack from invis and use Distortion and they just keep spamming their skills (some of them give them dodge, preventing any damage from me during distortion) until distortion wears off with no penalty. Every other profession will put their skills on cooldown if you spam at a blocking or evading target.
This is absurd and it needs to stop. Theif players should have to watch out for invul players just like everyone else.
(edited by ManCaptain.3154)
- Warrior: Highest base HP in the game, highest base armor in the game, best mobility in the game, best CC in the game, …. Undisputed king of WvW, can we finally start bringing that profession on par with all those other lowly peasants in the game?
- Elementalist : Lowest base HP, lowest base armor, no inherent defense mechanics. Giving them back their mobility would be a start at least. Then proceed to fight the lacking build diversity by actually improving the bad stuff, instead of bringing everything down to the same level of suck.
And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.
I don’t see where “limiting” to two would be any useful.
Rather I’d say that focus should be on two “categories” of fixes:
- Bugs (there’s a lot of them, and each patch adds to them – this to me is indicative of the devs working with a codebase they haven’t written themselves)
- Illogical functionality. Like when +25% daze duration doesn’t work because it doesn’t round up to a certain length (unlike DoTs, CC shouldn’t have a tick interval :P ).
Why these two? Because with bugged and illogical skills and traits, any discussion on balance or loadout is pretty void.
Warrior (Nerf)
Ranger (Buff)Other thoughts?
Considering you’re trolling this hard :
Rangers ( nerf )
Warriors ( buff )
!!!
Forgot at add that engineer condition removal is abysmal, unless you’re running elixir build with the right traits.
Also rangers… do something with Longbow. Anything.
How about … Distracting Shot
Actual fixes or balance?
IF actual fixes:
1. Mesmer
2. Mesmer
Seriously the broken stupid AI with their annoying bugs are pretty darn gamebreaking.
For balance?:
1. Nerf Warrior’s ability to be so tanky yet deal so much damage while having alot of control.
2. Evade.. err i mean thief, god kitten rework the sword/x #3 to something not that is not a evade or slaugther the damage of them
Buff : Rangers – need better survivability and damage on longbow specs/ better pet abilities/ai.
Eles: Better survival tools and more cc. It’s either a case of being truly glass and falling over as soon as someone looks at you, or having mediocre defence and mediocre damage. A case of ’ I can’t kill you…but you can probably kill me if you keep on trying long enough.’
Necros: Give them some more escapes/closers/mobility.
Nerf : Warriors of course. High hps and high armour and high damage, a constant healing tick with almost cc immunity and condition clears with access to ranged damage. Please…..

Antidote(only 1 condi removed and you have to step on it) and cleansing burst can’t be used at the same time, both healing skills. Automated response doesn’t remove condis(and should be removed/reworked), transmute is 1 condi every 15sec
So at best you are looking at 3 condis/15sec on yourself, which is quite abysmal.
And for elixirs you have elixir C, R toss but C is usually not worth picking up and R is better used as a rez utility
edit: forgot about super elixir(1 condi iirc) on elixir gun
(edited by Vuh.1328)
Two professions are out of control for the moment:
- Thief who is by itself keeping two other profession outside the meta (ele & mesmers)
- Warriors:warriors every where god mode in all part of the games, self sufficient and number one or two in core winning criteria: Damage / Sustain / Control / Condi removal / Stability
30 % of warrior in tpvp in average should tell something
40 % or above in wvw and higher rates in guilds should also
=> sorry but realignment should not be power creep but a true real and efficient nerf for both of these two professions.
L2P is not an answer…these points are coming from best current players.

1. Bad, alchemy trait.
2. Bad.
3. Bad.
4. Bad. Doesn’t remove conditions from the engineer.
5. Grandmaster alchemy trait. Also doesn’t remove conditions.
The only real condition removal for engineer is Elixir C, Formula 409 trait and Automated Response helps, but it’s not condition removal.
Like I said, only builds that have any real condition removal are alchemy traited elixir builds.
Just because something says that it removes conditions, it doesn’t mean that it’s viable as condition removal.
we (engis) have the worst conditional removal in the complete game. They should replace Automated response with a trait like “remove condition on tool belt abilities” That would help to create a gadget build and gives some extra condition removal with a good cooldown.
I also hope they do not buff or nerf a class like in the past. They should adjust the warrior and ele first. I do not want the “warrior is a free kill days back” not the “ele is OP days”
Player’s thought: Ranger do need a buff and warrior do need a nerf.
So Anet buff warrior and nerf ranger……again……
