If the bottleneck on decently designed and sufficiently varied armor being introduced into the game is due to lack of design concepts, and not so much on the actual modeling of the armor, I’d gladly start submitting design concepts that are free for you to have/use/not use, ArenaNet. I’m sure many in this community are capable of producing quality and creative armor designs with species/gender/weight variations and would gladly offer them freely for your use as well.

If the bottleneck is actually at the modeling stage, then I’d gladly also freely offer the designed armor to include model files as well. Just mention what program/format you would prefer the models designed in for easy alterations and implementation consideration.

I understand there would likely be wavers of rights to submitted material and agreements and such. Not a problem. It’s the right way to do it to cover butts, yours and ours.

If you need help, we’re here for you! There are many talented artists in this community, start tapping into us! Let’s get this ‘Player Generated Concepts/Content’ going.

I think there is an issue or immersion here. Costumes are not armour class specific and so you can have a warrior running around in a silly looking costume.

That’s not an “immersion” issue though. If you can have a mesmer go into a battle wearing a skimpy hooker outfit but then have a problem with a warrior running it with the same outfit, THAT is an immersion breaking double standard from a “realism” standpoint. If the immersion issue is that people can never wear clothes into a fight at all instead of armor, then that was an issue from day one.

Your problem is equating realism with immersion. They aren’t the same & wanting them to be doesn’t make it so.

IDK why so many people have issues with immersion breaking. I would understand with things like weapons being chain saws and other crap that is totally not relevant to the world we have, but watching a warrior running into battle in a skimpy hooker outfit would have the same effect on me in game as IRL. I would think, “What the heck is he/she thinking?” and move on. People are idiots IRL and IG, lol.

So…

We can have two scraps of fabric serve as an “armored top” but battling in “town clothes” is immersion breaking?

Wut.

Perhaps “believability” or “versimilitude” or “consistency” would have been a better term. The problem on these boards is that people like to blame everything they don’t like on immersion breaking, regardless of how much sense it makes in the game world. If one guy can wear cloth and swing a greatsword into battle, it makes sense that some other sort of character swinging a greatsword might be able to do the same. That consistency supports immersion. Saying that it’s fine for one character to go into a fight in cloth but it breaks immersion when a warrior does it sounds pretty silly since the reasoning is completely gamist and arbitrary instead of grounded in the versimilitude of a simulated world.

“Immersion breaking” has become a cheap, trendy term people use in an attempt to give their subjective taste some kind of objective sounding weight.

Exactly.

<mesmer runs into battle, swinging a greatsword and wearing a piece of cloth>

Immerson Guy: “That’s awesome!”

<warrior then runs into battle, swinging a greatsword and wearing a piece of cloth>

Immersion Guy: “Aw, man. My suspension of disbelief and immersion in this world is totally broken.”

lol…

It’s hard to tell what the functionality of the item is from just a screen shot, so I’m here to clarify. This screen shot actually shows the Bloody Prince Thorn costume and not an armor skin, so it is not usable in combat.

Wow. How completely disappointing. That looks too much like an armor set. Costumes need to be more over the top and unusual. We get Braham, Kasmeer, and Scarlet’s armor sets but we can’t get the Bloody Prince’s? Utterly disappointed. Sorry, necromancers.

And why not? I think I speak for a lot of players when I say that the game is lacking in the skin variety department. I’ve suggested it before, but I’ll do it again: more GW1 armor/weapon skins, and for the love of Melandru PLEASE DO NOT leave them at the mercy of Black Lion Chest RNG. Just give us the armors/weapons to buy out-right just like you guys did with the Primeval/Krytan/Profane/Aetherblade/Phoenix skins.

If you’re really feeling creative, make a new, ‘legacy currency’ that can be acquired in-game and collected by Kimmes the Historian in the Hall of Monuments to purchase GW1 skins if you guys decide to be generous and implement them.

I’m sure that some of your armor art designers would rather just create their own and have their own efforts recognized, and I’m not implying that your armor design team is bad, but GW1 had so many great skins for both weapons and armor. There is a lot of money to be made in what you already have in GW1. Please.

Also, there have been leaks of the ascended armors and what they look like… I (and many others, I’m sure) am not overly impressed. This is, of course, entirely subjective. Parts of the armors look nice, but not so much as a set. Thanks for transmutation crystals, though!

Give us more GW 1 weapon and armor skins, please. COPY/PASTE ALREADY!!!!

I agree completely about bringing back some gw1 armors and weapons. Some have shown up in gw2 and look great, I just think it would be amazing to see a lot more of them.

so another rather useless item only to be wore in town. which nobody cares about .
town clothing might be great for RP’rs but its such a great looking piece of gear you should make it an armor.

afterall i think players want to see more armors ingame not costumes only meant to brawl.

no offense i love the game and the things you make , but its another one of those items which is only usefull for two things rp and brawling which is to bad cause it looks awesome!

Great.
Can I ask, what is the point of it ? I would buy it. Really. But since it’s town only, it’s just pointless.

like your label of inconsistency as it pertain to classes by being "gamist and arbitrary ". Just because a character’s entire profession & fighting discipline in a world of magic users isn’t enough of a reason for you, again, doesn’t make it inconsistent.

So, the costume is in the store now. And I have previewed it on my necro, and it makes me very sad. This costume pretty much encapsulates everything that was awesome about necro armor in GW1: lots of leather and straps, check; creepy facial scars/paint, check; wicked looking spikes, check. It’s everything I want in a new armor skin for my necro….and I can’t wear it in combat.

It’s like some kind of sick joke, on the most necro-y holiday of them all I get taunted by the perfect necro armor that isn’t, and the Mad King gives me a mesmer mask ARMOR skin just to rub it in.

It would be absolutely amazing if they decided to release this as an actual armor.

One of the things I loved about the GW1 Elementalist and Mesmer, was that they all appeared very regal/sophisticated looking. This Bloody Prince Costume is the first thing that has been released, that actually makes my female, GW2 Ele look like that.

That is nice to hear that his appearance will be available as a Towns Clothes costume, but would you pass word along to the armor designers that this style of armor is highly desired by players (especially for necromancer players), and it would be very, very nice to see future armor designs made available that are similar in appearance to this, please?

This. I will never buy town clothes. Think of how many other potential sales you are losing by making something so nice be town clothes only skins.

Or…give people a reason to wear town clothes, as right now there is no purpose to that entire game system other than costume brawl and RP.

Even RP gets almost nothing out of it, because town clothes options are limited to goofy costumes and next to no customization.

A reason like what, exactly? If they’re wearable in combat, they might as well be armor, and we’re trying to find improvements to the town clothing system without throwing it out entirely. If being in town automatically switches you to town clothes, people aren’t going to be thrilled about not wearing their hard-earned armor anymore. Invent some sort of mini-game that requires town clothes?

Costume Brawl was designed largely to make town clothes and tonics more interesting and fun, when they were originally just visual changes. If that’s not satisfying enough, the only changes I can think of that might make them more appealing would be a skin locker to let you get multiple copies of them— But even that isn’t giving you a reason to wear them, if you don’t already like them, as it’s just making their current function more flexible.

The lack of a reusable skins + skin locker makes me less apt to sink any money into cosmetics as well.
