The clocktower was recently changed so that you can’t get the chest at the end over and over again. Lunatic Inquisition is boring. The other mini game that was in the Halloween event last year isn’t here this year.

The most fun I’ve ever had in this game was during the Halloween events last year, but this year was a let down for me.

I think part of the problem is that everything isn’t new. Also last year they rolled it out slowly, where this year most people have finished the content a few days into the patch.

I actually missed last years halloween due to playing other games, and when i got to experience it this time it felt pretty fun (esp. clocktower) :P. Obviously now after a week it’s boring becoz the content is all casual and repetitive, can’t help that but it still holds up better than the other rushed Living Story trash they put out during the year, would you agree?

Except SAB, that is the best patch ever \o/ imo :P

Much as I hate agreeing with anybody in this forum, in this case I’m forced to do so. The achievements were too easy, Lunatic Inquisition fortunately hasn’t changed much, and the clock tower is as hard as ever. I don’t particularly care about diminished returns. I think they should have added a bit more than they did.

I am EXTREMELY dissapointed I have to say.

I was looking so forward to this, constantly annoying my guildies about it, because I had so much fun last halloween.

Lab loot has been ruined so it’s just not worth farming at all compared to last year.

Clocktower was actually worth farming which rewards you for being good at it, I missed farming the bags.

You also CANNOT play with your friends/guildies in these mini-games for some absolutely ridiculous reason. Least social MMO I’ve ever played lol. Play with strangers! Not with friends! That’s what MMO’s are for right?!

I also had SO much fun farming Mad King dungeon last year with guildies/friends, it was a simple/fun boss fight, no trash mobs, no BS, just a fun boss fight with guildies.

The rewards were also great, and it was repeatable, for good rewards, it was awesome. I’m extremely afraid Anet is going to completely ruin it as well.

Watch it become a daily only crappy reward.

I guess Anet just wants us farming champs in Queensdale and Frostgorge for some strange reason.

Of course, there’s the insane grind requirement on the halloween weapons, it’s a good thing I don’t care about any of them, or else I would be kitten ed.

Why does it take half the effort/resources for a fun little HOLIDAY EVENT SKIN that a legendary takes? Explain this to me.

I’ve never seen an MMO out there lazily piggy-back off of Holidays to be their “main content update” where Holidays turn into a grind for players to get their epic raid gear, that doesn’t exist.

Anyway, that’s my rant, thanks for crapping in my cereal Arenanet.

I’d have to agree. The event seems phoned in. There is less to do and what there is to do has had the fun ripped out.

From everything they already had from last year they could have made an epic Halloween dungeon, but we got a crappy small room with a whiny brat being angry at his father. The Mad King is right The Bloody Prince is a failure.

Exactly. I was expecting the exact same halloween we had last year WITH A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA.

Instead they just ruined what we had last year, and added a pointless little story instance that is done in 2 minutes and a chore list, then made the weapons even harder to get.

It’s just so frustrating, why did they have to tamper with something that was great? It was probably the best content this game has had.

Guys, think for a moment, Halloween is on night of 31st of October to 1st of November. On the website www.guildwars2.com it says “Check back on
October 22 for more details!” so who says this is all we get for this years Halloween? More will come, just a few days later

Problem is, all signs point to the October 22nd release being about the Krait in Kessex Hills. Which actually sounds very cool, but doesn’t raise hopes for any more content for Blood & Madness.

I’m still hopeful that we’ll get some new costumes next Tuesday, but when we aren’t getting any hints for more Halloween, but we are getting hints for the next release, there’s not much reason to think there’s anything coming we don’t already have yet, minus Mad King Says / the Mask of Night.

I don’t know about you guys, but the update this year seems super empty, and it just feels like they took out a bunch of stuff with no real reason to. The kicker for me was the chest at the end of the Clocktower, after all that effort in “competitive jumping”, was a single once-per-account-forever chest. Not to mention you can no longer mystic forge chests to get sweet stuff. (Like the Mad King chests in 2012).

It feels like there’s nothing to work towards, and nothing to look forward to. And I know I’m not the only one who thought the mini-dungeon with Tessa was kind of bad. It was interesting at first, but it takes 5 minutes, there’s not a lot to get out of it, and the instance itself is tiny and devoid of challenge. And the achievements don’t help pad it out very much.

The PvP minigame is interesting, but it has the same problem as all PvP related things in GW2: you can’t play with your friends unless you get lucky enough to end up in the same instance. Or better yet, you end up in the same instance but on opposite teams (boo).

Farming 10,000 candy corns doesn’t really count as an activity.

Here’s hoping they’re working on some real content, and that there’s more to come. This is lame.

Sadly I feel the same way – honestly I don’t know if it was because last year’s event was a first time in GW2 but this one feels really ….boring for some reason.

Having played GW1 for a good amount of time before GW2 came out I can honestly say every Halloween felt magical and fun – every kitten one.
In fact – this year’s GW2 event is the only one that hasn’t managed to give me that same feeling. Last year’s did – and it was a blast.
It just feels empty – with not much to do – the atmosphere seems gone and it just seems to be a form of artificial decoration with no real rhyme or reason. It feels like it was thrown together in a frantic race to push something out. It certainly doesn’t seem to have the same quality of content as what we would expect.

And yes – I realize halloween can’t be all brand new and shiny since we already had it last year but in GW1 – even though a LOT of the things came back every year – it still felt great and fun and we’d all look forward to it.

Last year’s act release was splendid – this year… I don’t know.
Halloween was always my favorite GW holiday event – and I hope they manage to make it better next year – looking forward to it – but I fear this year was really, really disappointing.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

I have to agree that this years event feels kind of like a gutted version of last years. I would get excited about opening chests in the labyrinth, but now its just garbage after garbage. The only reason to be in there (for me) is leveling a toon with the events. Maybe they can still pull this off with the next update…..

I’ll add my two copper here as well (Since I started playing at the end of Halloween), and I’ll even say the content was gutted this time around when you compare 2012 to 2013. I mean, it is kind of interesting to bring up the Bloody Prince and have him be justifiably angry at his father, but he just comes off as a forgettable, angsty teenager with daddy issues. I never got to play in the original labyrinth, but even I can tell you that no matter how much you grind, you aren’t going to be able to get more than one or two cobs unless it is what you do all day and all night, and even then, you won’t get sufficient plastic fangs and the like for the legendaries. The doors don’t always let me enter, I’ve even gone ten doors in a row without a single one letting me in.

The problems I have noticed in the labyrinth are obvious to say the least; Count Viscount’s AOE spam sucks and the sugary coating doesn’t always proc’d correctly (His AoE locations change too and he could immediately follow up with his Throw Candy), Skeletal Lich spawns his 15 skeletons with retaliation which will mess your day up thanks to how clustered they get, the Horror sucks because he shows up at incredibly bad times (Like whenever you fight the Count or Lich and he just insta-downs your main group), immobilize really shouldn’t stack (Five Lunatic Rebels won’t let you do anything), the lack of a junk vendor/repairman in the labyrinth is a minor gripe and is more quality of life, and finally, the area of the labyrinth is pretty small for what should be considered a labyrinth.

I know I have a lot of gripes, but these flaws really show when you look at them as a whole. What I’m trying to say is that while I enjoy the event, somebody dropped the ball and made it a lot less enjoyable than last year and while I should be thankful that A-Net likes to make holidays feel special, this year’s Halloween really doesn’t feel spectacular with the new grinding. At least let us make Mad King Chests like before, that would ease the pain a bit more.

Mechanics wise, yes. Rewards wise, no. It seems like now you have to place in the top X (not sure haven’t tried it yet) to get the repeatable achievement to count it, but ToT bag for match is the same, I think.

As for Halloween as a whole, I agree its not as good as last year. They took too much out (book quest, reaper’s rumble, corn nodes, character bound tower rewards, etc) and made the rewards require obscene/impossible amounts of required material (even with those new ones dropping, supposedly. Don’t think I’ve gotten any of the new “high quality” items). Clocktower rewards are a joke now, who needs more Empyreal Fragment? I know I have more than I can use currently.
They’ve pretty much taken all the fun out of the event and added in incredible amounts of grinding…

I just wanted to throw my name on what’s already been said in this thread. Halloween this year feels like a gutted soul-less version of what we had last year. I literally would have been THRILLED to do the SAME EXACT things that we did last year. I gladly would have did the scavenger hunt again, (it was an amazing piece of story telling). I would give my left arm to jump into ascent to madness again. And please i don’t even want to get started on the absolutely disgusting grind fest that is the halloween weapons. I mean, it’s not even the mat cost that gets me. It’s the fact that the only way to aquire those mats is to literally grind the same bosses over and over and over and over and over and over…

I don’t even want to think what Winterdays is going to be like. With what they did to Halloween. I’m actually expecting extreme grinding now and lackluster (1 per account) rewards… I don’t want it and I hope I’m wrong, but thats probably how its going to be.

We do still have a patch left (with 2 weeks for whatever it adds), which may add ascent to madness (still need mad king says as well), but unless it somehow gives 50s/100s of the corn/materials, there is no way it can recover what was lost due to the changes for the first part/patch.

They will NERF the Princess Dolls.

Probably. They’ll probably nerf all the holiday mobs along with their item drop rates. Meanwhile, they’ll introduce three new skins that you have no hope of getting in time.

I whole-heartedly agree. I loved last year’s Halloween event, but this year seems kind of off. I completed the meta achievement already and I don’t have anything else to look forward to. The bloody prince was a serious let down compared to fighting the mad king last year. That was probably the most fun I’ve had in the game period. That dungeon and boss battle were so much fun! I loved the story behind the Mad King and the story that led me all over Tyria to get the back armor. I still wear it just because it’s so cool! The story this year had potential, but I feel like it was wasted. If it took Anet suspending their every two week updates for a month before Halloween to give us an event like last year, I would say it would be worth it.

The main thing that upsets me is we were told that these first year events were setting the framework for ArenaNet so that when events, like this holiday’s, came around again they could concentrate on adding quality content because the framework was already constructed.

Well, this is our second Halloween and it feels very much like a rehash of the first with some very minor additions. Heck they’re not even bothering with the most popular cash items from GW1, the COSTUMES!!!

Maybe I had my expectations set too high being a GW1 vet, but so far this update has been a major letdown for me. I was hoping for a few added holiday quests, at least one additional holiday game (not one taken away), and again holiday related COSTUMES! I would also ask that story NOT be gated behind achievements. I am not saying get rid of achievements, but some of us do not find these ls achievements fun or interesting but we still love the lore and stories that ArenaNet crafts. Why have the story of the Mad King’s son locked behind achievements?

On a side note, am I the only one who thinks the bloody prince looks like a bad copy of the Joker?

The real problem here isn’t that this year’s is worse than last year’s, it’s that players are getting tired of these mundane, repetitive, drawn out and time gated achievement hunting for an item every other player will also get.

You might love chocolate, but if you’re forced to eat a chocolate bar every single day eventually you won’t be able to stand chocolate anymore.

Since all they’re giving us is more of the same achievement chasing with shallow content to back it up and non existing rewards, it’s only natural players are less than thrilled with these events.

The reason most players remember last year’s Halloween as their favorite event is because it was the very first event we had. It was new and interesting and exciting, now it’s just boring.

I don’t think so, it’s virtually the exact same. In fact this one is more well polished than last year.

Fixed some of the camera issues in the Tower, fact you don’t have 20 people with you is an improvement. The fact they’re giving us more time to do the achievements is better. Rewards are generally better, they fixed the worthlessness of some items such as candy corn.

Best of all, we’re not being forced into an almost entirely blind scavenger hunt in which we will almost certainly need to read a guide. I must admit though I enjoyed the scavenger hunt, wish they did it again but better implemented this year.

Overall we got more of the same, nothing is arguably better or worse. A few improvements here and annoyances there but overall just more of the same.

To people complaining about Halloween being better last year, it’s almost exactly the same as last year (the only real difference is no Reaper’s Rumble, but let’s face it that’s not what made last year’s event so great).

The real problem here isn’t that this year’s is worse than last year’s, it’s that players are getting tired of these mundane, repetitive, drawn out and time gated achievement hunting for an item every other player will also get.

You might love chocolate, but if you’re forced to eat a chocolate bar every single day eventually you won’t be able to stand chocolate anymore.

Since all they’re giving us is more of the same achievement chasing with shallow content to back it up and non existing rewards, it’s only natural players are less than thrilled with these events.

The reason most players remember last year’s Halloween as their favorite event is because it was the very first event we had. It was new and interesting and exciting, now it’s just boring.

Except in GW1 – each year was awesome and it was still the same thing over and over again. But it felt right. This doesn’t.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

Labrynth is boring this year, alot of the time your running around for 5-10 mins looking for a door

I enjoyed last year, I cant understand why they dont keep the same stuff in.

Do you think Anet enjoy annoying players?

hmm how is that different then what we did last year in the labrynth ?

Last year Halloween was released in 4 acts. Act 1 was just the scavenger hunt and doors that you could only open and fight stuff that came up in their you couldn’t even get to the labyrinth before act 2.

There is at least 1 other update to halloween shouldnt you wait for that at least?

also halloween is ruined because of the changes? changes like you can actually see where you’re going in the jumping puzzle now something that was super requested last year?

Some asked for this. And some like the old version. This should be a option.

I’ve an issue with Halloween this year as well.

Where’s the story for this Halloween? Bloody Prince instance was okay but that’s all? Am I just missing the build-up for something exciting on the 30th? I hope it’s more than just Mad King says.

Aside from achievements/dailies I see no point doing Labyrinth. I mean the bosses there don’t even count as champs for monthly? The rewards are just Halloween mats and those are unusable to me because you can’t use them for anything realistic.

Halloween “rewards” from Vendor are way out of normal player’s grasp. I used 1000 candy corn from previous year which amounts to a single gob. I have run pretty much every day a few runs of Labyrinth to complete the dailies and the amount of drops I have gotten from there aren’t even enough to form another cob. If the bail for example had cost something like 5 Cobs I could have maybe bought some candy to cover the rest of the expenses but now? Nah. Everything else on the Vendor is even more impossible.

Also speaking of achievements where are all the story ones? I see only dungeon achievements and stuff where you have to grind enemies or a few mats?

I guess I got the mini candy corn elemental and candy corn node out of this but… I’d rather have gotten something actually fun out of the event. Maybe the second coming of Mad King fixes this on the 30th?

Honestly. Halloween feels like an afterthought to WvW season when it should be star of the show in my opinion. Now I find myself doing just dailies and waiting to see if the next LW update is at all interesting. I guess there’s still Wintersday to wait for this year but I dread it will be as dissappointing as this is.

This years halloween is so bad I can hardly put it in words.

Mad realm doors: hardly any events spawn from this.

Mad kings labyrinth: grindfest with rewards that arent worth it, bickering between the tho thorns was fun for 2-3 times but I know the drill by now.

clocktower: although somewhat needed nerf, it killed the community of it. Sharing frustration with others made it fun, the feeling of accomplishment was tremendous when I did it the first time. We could have just been turned into human ghosts or whatever for this clocktower rather then see 4 whisps and yourself.

Lunatig inquisition: this is pretty fun and feels very halloween like.

Sweet rewards? I think not, the droprates are so low its not even worth trying.

Candy cornycopia: laughable, no ludicrious even. 20 slot bag? 15000 CANDY CORN PLEASE! dont want to farm 24/7 to get 1 20 slot bag? buy candy corn for 70G PLEASE!

Mask of the night: this will surely fit my mesmer, doesnt fit any other class for me but surely light armor users will find a way with it.

Scavenger hunt for mad kings lore? ha no, lore is premium content go away filthy newling.

Reapers Rumble? Nah this is premium content only for 2012, dont touch my glorious premium content. Its not like halloween is a recuring seasonal event.

Master Carver? No the pumpkins were infused with mad king magic last year, only if you carve those pumpkins would make you elligible for this title, the pumpkin carving this year is for babys and should not reward a title. hurdur logic. Why dont you just remove the pumpkins while your at Anet since removing content is the only thing you can do right.

Wishful I was when I saw a tower covered in thorns for the next living content only to realise now that its not for halloween and what we got now is all we will get. I wanted to buy a halloween costum but it will now painfully remind me how aweful this piece of kittentrash halloween is this year, so thank you for saving me that expense.

Well from the release page there is nothing Halloween about the next patch (though stuff could get added to it, cause its pretty sparse right now).
And (at least for me) its not the JP changes (well the other player changes anyways), its all the other ones.
Once per account JP reward, with worse subsequent run rewards (who needs Empyreal Fragments?) The lack of corn nodes, with the increased required (to virtually impossible non-TP acquisition quantities, even if we had the amount of corn nodes as last year). Labyrinth changes are ok, though the three do require a zerg to kill (even when doing it the normal way). Story is lackluster and short.
They removed too much from last years (even if it was in stages). Scavenger hunt was removed as well as Reapers Rumble. Can’t say anything about Mad King Says cause it hasn’t happened yet. This years mask isn’t even Halloween themed, at least IMO. It just doesn’t match up to last years, even with last years staggered releases.

While I think giving each character a pair of exotic, soulbound gloves would have been nice and hardly would have wrecked the economy, I’m okay with getting 20 fragments daily and some trick-or-treat bags after that. I know it’s not as many as last year, but at least I can do it this year.

I do agree with most of the rest of what you said, other than the Mask of the Night. I’d prefer something flashier, personally, but I suppose it’s nice to have a reward that’s not as…well, loud, as a lot of other armor rewards.

I only do dungeons when its a daily, and I still have several stacks. You also get them in WvW for capping (well if you can damage the lord/supervisor) towers/caps. I don’t think you get them from the champ bags, so I’m not sure where else I got them.
The Mask of Night is a piece of town clothes, so having it flashy doesn’t matter (to me anyways), cause you barely ever use town clothes, if you do at all. I’d much prefer the kinds of masks we got in GW1 Halloweens, at least those were interesting, instead of just a retex of the light masks/mesmer ones.
