If you guys think Halloween was grindy/mostly recycled/dull/short compared to last year, (i do) wait until Christmas comes.
Now how could they screw this one up?
Cast your minds back and think of all the ways they could change things for the worse.
I can’t wait to say that Anet ruined Christmas.

Oh god, I just remembered the Wintersday mini’s from last year. If the Halloween weapons got cranked up this much in cost I…I really hope they don’t do the same for the Wintersday rewards.

This was my thought (“What the kitten are they going to do to ruin Wintersday as well.”) when I first saw what was required for any of the new Halloween items.

Probably not gonna happen (at least with Halloween). Hopefully they learn from this (even though they didn’t with Dragon Bash and the Jorbreakers), that requiring thousands of something is just making it grindy and is going to push more people away. Unless thats their goal…

Ofcourse its their main goal. How else do you explain their constant grindy content ? People leave – yet they continue to ruin this game. They realized thier failure with the game and try to push people away, so they can shut down servers cause of little online. What else do they do ? Obvious things are obvious.

What did they learn? The Holographic Dragon Wings were on the tp for 6g within a month after the event. Then they stayed around 9g for quite a while. Hardly even remotely comparable to the current event. Zaitaffy also had a much higher drop rate from mobs than CC does, and there were no rare items.

If anything they seem to have “learned” that the jorbreaker idea wasn’t enough of a grind, so they had to do it with 5 different drops.

They also dramatically nerfed drop rates and added a daily to ensure large amounts of candy corn is removed from the economy on a regular basis.

It seems having a “healthy economy” is mutually exclusive to fun.

I was saying they didn’t learn anything. Yes zaitaffy dropped more, but it still required 100,000 of them to get the wings, which I highly doubt anyone acquired that way. And I’m pretty sure there was complaining then about the required amount and yet they added the insane amounts again, with one of the most beloved holidays.

And isn’t it only 4 drops? Corn, Skulls, Nougat, Fangs?

None of these wings on TP came from jorbreakers. They were dropping in the game, and while their individual drop rate wasn’t that good (meaning, you couldn’t hope to drop one yourself), it was good enough that supply managed to satisfy the demand.

Of course, seeing their reactions to the many questions about Jorbreakers, made it clear that they didn’t even understand where the problem with its price was – or that there was any problem at all.

So yeah, i agree, not only they didn’t learn anything at all, but it’s debatable they even thought there was anything to learn here.

What exactly is your definition of healthy economy?

Usually the health of the economy refers to inflation which would mean the value of gold against all items and not any item in particular.

I had four of them drop on one character over dragon bash. For Rare items, they were downright plentiful.

The reason why, of course, was that there were no stats tied to it, so they could hand them out with ease if they wanted. The weapons are all exotics.

Though, for the ridiculous material cost, they should be Ascended.

Christmas wasn’t that great in the first place, the instance and the jp were more frustrating than fun – which I’m probably going to skip this year anyways.

The pvp game was kinda neat, it was more rewarding and fun overall… bells were fun when they worked right.

But yeah, keeping on topic… I can’t wait to see what insane grind they add this time around to make everything impossible to get beyond the top 5% of tp flippers.

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”

Halloween this year was fine, and I’m sure Christmas will be too. Even though I wasn’t able to earn much of anything except achieves (and we all know everyone earns those), I did thoroughly enjoy the labyrinth zerg fest and had fun just playing the Halloween content.

As for candy corn on the TP, I refuse to “buy” my way to an item. If I can’t earn/find it on my own, I’ll simply go without and move on. No big deal.

I hope they bring back choir bells.

No this years Halloween is not fine (yet?) when compared to last years Halloween.

  1. The Bookhunt or something simliar is completely missing (I loved the story / feelings around that one, felt better then most other similiar LS attemps).
  2. There is no Title to get this year.
  3. A complete PvP-Minigame is missing from last year.
  4. The Skins aren’t attainable by drops yet unless you ‘ve attained a BL-Ticket or buy them off the TP. Correct me if I’m wrong.
  5. Labbys DR is just to much for farming, especially when compared to last year, even when having > 200% MF (which most Players haven’t even got yet).
  6. Clocktowers Rewards for doing it multiple times have been nerfed as well (god I enjoyed those runs). It now has a PvP-Like Pointsystem which could have been nice, if for example the Top Scorer would get an additional reward like it does in simliar Minigames. Aside from that other Players are now only showing as a little glowing balls, which is pretty nice in itself but in addition to that I noticed some strange movement imparing bugs like stuttering which clearly weren’t there last year.

Let ‘s hope for a surprise on Tuesday,. I just hope they didn’t nerf the Mad King Dungeon as well (concerning DR). If it ’s coming back that is.

Christmas wasn’t too bad last year. They learned a bit with the JP with providing more then one start point; I guess you can call this issue fixed in current Halloween event since they changed everyone to wisps.

Christmas definitely did the skin system right I think though. Can buy a specific set of skins from the gem store, or buy a different set of skins with sweater scraps/from tp that dropped at a decent rate (not as high as dragon bash candy but some people easily farmed them). Then at the end of the holiday you got a free gift that had some random type of the skins in them as well.

Not to mention the minis made form the dungeons were pretty easy to make as well. Though I was disappointed with the RNG minis from the chests. >.>

I think a big factor for this Halloween is they got rid of the tiered approach which was kind of cool, but some people disliked it as well. I liked it because it dragged the event out longer and new things showed up every week instead of just running through everything in the first day or two.

I do hope they don’t mess with the kindness factor they set for Wintersday last year. But there is a chance it just won’t stand up to our expectations either. :S

Yes, basically the complete Halloween this year is / was about finishing Achievements in a day or even just doing the dailies to get the Mini and then go back to farm the Champions or selling Arah Access.

Last year people actually digged the whole (time gated) Story and kept asking in Map Chat searching for hints and stuff, guessing what will happen next. This year I see almost no one actually talking about it in Lions Arch at all.

Yes there were some people complaining (like always) but even those were mostly just complaining about it being time gated (f.e. due to Hurricane Cathrina) and they weren’t asking for a complete removal / revamp of the concept involving the Open-World. What do we have now? A personal Instance. Just like in GW1.

Remember about them talking about the LS slowly changing the World? I guess most people actually remember the Lion Fountain being gone for a while and then slowly being rebuild.

At least for me that is one of few things I can remember that actually had a noticable as in rememberable impact on the Open World – and not just got patched out but rebuild over time even with a small Donation Event towards it.

It ’s in my opinion a good example in what direction the Living Story should have gone.

Not just patching things in and out every two weeks, that actually dont even feel like they’re connect by story just to keep the jumpy masses entertained, that in a second drop the game like a hot stone for the next one. Thought, not everything is black and the quality increases at least … sometimes … so well, let ’s see what the future brings.

  • Instead of the toy factory going from city to city like last year, this year it will be static and you will only be able to access it by going into wintery doors found throughout Wayfarer, Snowden, and Lornar’s Pass.
  • Players will have an opening instance where they revisit the dungeon from last year, and things seem the same, but then Scarlet shows up and you have to fight Aetherblades. Again.
  • Rather than being instanced, the dungeon will be open world with frequently spawning events, introducing a new type of foe: frosty clockwork minions. You will be chilled 100% of the time in this area.
  • There will be special legendary frosty bosses that have one unique mechanic that is powerless against the zerg, but that have enormous hp pools so it takes 10 minutes to kill them.
  • The minions will drop frozen clockworks scraps which can be turned in for minis and some useless holiday garbage that no one will really want. Maybe frosty clockwork sandwiches. It will take thousands of them for the mini.
  • New skins in the gem store, but it requires a claim ticket. Impossible to get by actually playing the game.

I don’t remember ever having a problem with the princess dolls, all I remember was the a group of 5 golems chain stunning and blinding you. I died without doing any damage to any of them every time I tried to kill them. Eventually I just gave up and ran any time I spawned a cluster of 5 golems.

If Wintersday has bells and Toxxdos, I will be content.

I’d also like my endless toymaker’s tonic to sell for something more than 30g, Endless Gift Dolyak is at 100g, for what reason I will never understand, but that’s wishful thinking.

But yeah, bell mini game and Gladdos reincarnated in Toxx and I’ll be happy. A little bit of tweaking to the story to differ it from last year would be nice too, but I would hope thats a given.

Yes they did.

We should add to this list though, it’s rather funny.

how about:

Toymaker Tixx’s long-forgotten son shows up: his creations are equally crazy and super-op, but nobody even bothers to care what they are and what they do, because they’re either in a zerg or trying to catch up to one.

WvW Season 2 : The queue strikes back. Now in WvW, groups of over 30 players congregating in one area will spawn Scarlet, who will then brutally and mercilessly kill players with her massive hit point total and 15 minute timer. She won’t bother doing any damage or performing any attacks, players will just drop dead after seeing her dance.

New really awesome 25-slot bag! This requires candy cane shards, left over from guild wars. Yeah, you have to go to the hall of monuments and crack open that xunlai chest, and hope they’re well-preserved. (alternatively, you can pay just a few gems for black lion chest keys, which give you a very low and exciting chance at getting a preserved candy cane shard. You need twenty thousand to get the bag.

Also in the black lion shop: someone else’s christmas wish! (we do not guarantee that it is yours) It could be a Nintendo 64, a new car, or a proposal from someone else’s boyfriend! (no takebacksies. It’s ok, he’s a nice young man) This is the only one of the new things you can afford.
