Q:
I’m a player that currently has 4,3k achievement points and I’ve noticed that the rate in which you gain achievement points slows down a lot from 3k on. Players with 3k+ achievement points have a great deal of the easy achievements completed and are now bound to doing the rather difficult- ones, that cost a lot of effort and money to complete.
Again, as with the WvW ranks they will give us the rewards for these achievements retro-actively… which means players with a high amount of achievement points will have a very hard time actually getting any reward at all, because all the easy achievements have been completed by them.
I hope the developers see the truth in these words and decide it is not for the best they make these rewards retro-actively. My suggestion: make the achievement points a currency instead of ‘gaining stuff while getting them’. Players have played this game from the start and gathered achievement points, it’s only fair that they get their due, without having to do the extra hard achievements.
Thanks for reading and hope you agree.

The promise that the points will count has been made … what, half a year ago?
That’s what retroactively means… players get credit for what they’ve already accomplished.
Wait. what?
Do you not understand what retroactive means? Or are you assuming that they’ll do as in WvW and make it so that any points previously earned will only be earned in queue after earning new achievements?
From my understanding, they’re just going to add bonuses that you reach once you hit a certain number of achievement points on your account. No new currency or queue.
If they do this like City of Heroes did Premier Powers (Sands of Mu, Undead Axe, etc) I’d be pretty happy. Hit x level of achievement points, get a chest popup of “Pick your reward” boom, done.
Sorry but if what you says is true Bravo, we will get about 1000 chests in our mailbox. I’ll be sure to accept them, but it seems a bit like a dream scenario no?
“These rewards will be retroactively awarded for any tiers of account achievement rewards you’ve already earned on your account.”
^Says rather clearly that the rewards for the in my case 4,3k achievement points will only be given after I earn more achievement points. So i’d need to earn another 4,3k points it seems. I’m not a no-life player and won’t get my rewards. Simple as that.
I suggest they give us the rewards because we earned them before! We started playing earlier, we have more points and we earned all of them by hard work. Give us our reward accordingly, without us having to grind the double.
Who says these things will be delivered via mailbox? For all we know they could add a vendor similar to the HOM vendor.

How you come to that conclusion is a mystery. To me it says that once this system is live you will automatically get/unlock the rewards you have earned with your 4.3k points.

That’s what this thread is for… it’s a discussion thread. If the devs can give us answers as the “whats” and “hows”, I’d be pleased to see them. If you have ideas about this or suggestions, or criticisms write them out.

What makes you think it will be chests at all?
I agree that people must be rewarder retroactively for the Achievement points they already won. However, they should loose the points earned from common events or daylies and turn them into some other currency, different from Achievement points.
Its not a real achievement doing lots of runs on WvW for example. You complete events without even being intended to. You do should be rewarded for this because you spent time playing and maybe even aimed to complete them. But not with achievement points.
AAchievements should be only achievements with no points at all. I mean, each one gives you 1 achiement only. The actual system of rewarding points is not even accurate. One cannot for example judge the skills nor the time of gameplay from another player just lookin at how many points they have.
There is no reason to make it so that one achievement earn you more points than other, except if you turn them “spendable” like they are doing.
However, by doing this, you are neglecting the reason achievement exists in first place.
WHAT IF…
The new system ends ups being like HoM instead of WvW?

The information we have so far makes it fairly clear that this is going to work in a similar manner to HOM.
“These rewards will be retroactively awarded for any tiers of account achievement rewards you’ve already earned on your account.”
Key words there are ‘tiers of account achievement’ So for example at 100 points you’ll get reward 1, at 250 points reward 2 etc
when the system goes live you will be able to claim all the rewards up to your current total.
That’s my reading of it anyway.
Based on the details provided by the announcement there’s no reason at all to deduce that you would only be rewarded for your existing achievement points after you get as many as you already had, that’s not even remotely what “retroactively” means. In fact, the wording here is quite reassuring – unlike laurels, which were only rewarded for completing dailies/monthlies after they were implemented and not “retroactively” rewarded to players who had been doing those things all along, here they’re saying “we’re not going to make it so that all the achievements you already got don’t count and only stuff moving forward from this point on will”.
And there’s no reason at all to suppose it would work like WvW (which is a terrible analogy anyways because ranking up in WvW is actually EXTREMELY easy, even if you have a VERY high rank because after rank 5 the Wxp needed to rank up is capped at 5,000; what gets harder to do as you rank up is get a new TITLE to go with your rank, as they space them further apart), which did retroactively reward players for the effort they’d already made but in a manner that ensured that people starting from scratch and people who were already rank “awesome” got chests the same way – ranking up. The veterans just got 2 per rank until they caught up with their backlog.
The thing about WvW rank chests though is that ranking up to 2 and ranking up to 132 are pretty much the same exact thing: some silver, badges, blueprints, and most likely a green item. From the sound of this though, there will be different skins and other rewards based on each “tier” you’ve reached, so a scenario wherein the previous tiers you’ve already attained only unlock after you reach even higher tiers really seems unlikely.
In short, don’t worry, be happy.

That’s the best answer I got so far. Thanks for a thorough and convincing argument why it shouldn’t be like WvW.
Well some ‘new’ info about it, here. Still no info on how we receive them or if we can get them multiple times.
