As the title says , i am expecting big things from now on starting with this “patch”.
(Exuse my terrible english in advance)

If anyone read atleast 2-3 atleast of my posts and topics, knows how i feel and think abaut the current state of Gw2, and how i felt after beta, when the game started.
I consider the game to be one of the best (if not the best) out in the market. But there are still MANY things that destroy the gameplay for many players, and i keep hearing them more and more. I dont want to start with “the games future” and “active playerbase” thingy, this is not a topic to discuss abaut “if players leave, if not” and so on.

This is more abaut the current thouts that came to my mind and circulate in it, after hearing the last patch news and future plans of Gw2.

First of all HURRRAY FINALLY you decided to expand your development team(s). I simply cant understand WHY on earth did you not do this sooner? I mean, We (i) waited 5-6 years for the game ,and it came out almost half finished. (and it still kind of feels it is). I dont want to offend anyone or qq, but to me it feels, there are extreme ammounts of things that are rushed and half comeplete. For example the guild halls, that are mentioned, planned, but are still not out after a whole years. Whitch is infuriating in my opinion, since it was very well made and important.

And thats just 1 example (dont make me make more, its not a topic abaut that). I understand that ALL mmo-s need atleast 4-5 years development time to get atleast to starting point, and atleast 1-2 years to get decent content, so the real game can begin.
But after that they usually make an expansion worth of patches or an expansion itself each year.
Tyria had a LOT of changes, yes i agree, and even understand how some feel, but my feelings are not really like that."
All that effort and time you put into the “hollyday” events and temporal content, should and could have been used for the core game content. I understand that there are propably many who liked it, but there are also many, who dont even bother noticing “hollyday” things in mmo-s. Most of my friends find those shiny event crap useless and pointless (fireworks ect…).
So yes! I agree with the fact that you might have realized this and react to that? At any rate +1 on that.

The other thing that comes from that is the new contant every 2 week. Cant comment on it. I presume its a good thing.

The bazaar itself. Yes i see that is something like a “quick fix” for many things. I presume you are going to add a LOT more non gem unlockables. Whitch would fix many things.
For example the effects of some classes skills, whitch many players hate, by adding unlockable alternate effects? Or engineer turret skins? Ect….(atleast thats what i presume and hope, considering your way of thinking, in contradiction with the players and “fanatics” that are content with anything.
I do hope that the bazaar offers more then a simple place where players can buy “new skins”. But also an real chance to give players that are NOT content with anything they get by default, an option, to change and costumize there characters in more ways.

I wont start on combat system, maybe later. As for last i would like to say : The last few news on the game, made me come back after a half year, (trough i still struggle with picking a class i like after 4 lv 80 chars). They give me hope, that my 5 years (+1 after rel) of waiting was not in vain. I am expecting BIG things coming in the next half of the year and an “east” ern style expansion soon. (i personally think Factions was the thing that made Gw1 truly amazing).
Again exuse my terrible english, and Good luck, and thank you for the brilliant game so faar. Keep up the work and react if you must. I still remember Colin Johanson sead " we take out whole parts if we must and redesign" i still hope that ideal still lives.

I am expecting big things too, but I am expecting them in small gradual steps at the same time, like how the Flame and Frost storyline played out. Even if they have a team of 500 people, there is only so much they can throw at the game at one time.

We (i) waited 5-6 years for the game ,and it came out almost half finished. (and it still kind of feels it is). I dont want to offend anyone or qq, but to me it feels, there are extreme ammounts of things that are rushed and half comeplete. I agree that there are many things in the game that Anet promised but hasn’t even started yet, but, did you play The Secret World when it first came out? THAT was a half finished game. Guild Wars 2 was more like 80-90% finished at the most.

well i like temporary stuff. adds an interesting layer to the game that no other game does.

however, i do agree that a lot of core stuff needs to be added on the side, so i hope that they have a team for that at least as big as all their temporary teams combined.

plus, i don’t see how small, self contained story arcs could possibly lead us to the content that would typically be brought by major expansions (like fighting the rest of the dragons, the other continents, etc). sure they say they want to roll out everything in this style, but i really wonder if it’s possible to get that.

I can’t get excited about future living story updates. So far, we got subterranean vermin, beach crabs and now merchants that have a penchant for ballooning.

There is nothing compelling about killing crabs/moles and talking to merchants.

I loved this game 4 months ago but I have learned to loathe it in a relatively short time period. The ‘living’ story is killing the game for me.

Yes i also agree, they dont have to warp in “all” the stuff at once. That would feel like killing the rpg element in the game. The current world feels really well constructed and served considering a fantasy world. Does feel a bit realistic, even without the dark attitude of gw1.

As for
“The Secret World when it first came out? THAT was a half finished game. Guild Wars 2 was more like 80-90% finished at the most.”
I did not paly it, trough i did play almost anything since eq1 and ultima online, and yes most games do come out like 50% complete or worse.
The 80-90% is a funny thing, even it it is true. Since it is “finished” , but many things give the impression, they are rushed. That the devs wanted that thing to be a LOT more detailed, but ended up releasing it as bread instead of a wedding cace because they didnt had the time…i hope you get what i mean. That is what i ment “half complete” .

“really wonder if it’s possible to get that.”
I am sure anything is possible, as my grandmother always sead. Anet is actually the true example for that. They improved the whole mmo genre wit this game. Look araund…anything that comes out, takes a lot of things from gw2. Action combat, story, cutscenes, quest systems, events so on…
So i think anything is possible, if you put effort into it and the game industry lets you (money making kills games)
For example : Gaming community is terrible in most games. But Anet went out and looked into it instead of saying “thats how palyers are”. And they realized, players wont change, (they are terrible ppl) but if they dont give them a reson to flame eachother and argue, they wont. So they made the game in a way players dont have resons to behave “kittened”.
They made the impossible possible with a good design. So i say with a good design and insight ( that the awesome desginers like Mike O’Brian and Colin and exspecially Ree have ) the devs can make the game truly amazing, if they are willing to look into things.
And yes sorry again for my terrible english.

what i meant by “i really wonder if it’s possible to get that” is that, unless they have this HUGE secret team working on a massive expansion and they’re willing to drop it on our heads for free, i don’t see how their current living story system would progress the “core story” of the game, as it seems that they want to make each living story arc something self contained that starts when it’s released and ends once the next one is out.

and i just don’t see them dropping a whole continent (or at least a couple large explorable areas and a ton of story missions) with the current system, which is what they seemingly want to do. but we’ll see.

i’ve seen a lot of players saying “housing would be great” though i’ve never understood the importance for housing. aside from decoration, banking, having friends over… there’s no real significant aspect towards having them. anyone care to weigh in on the matter?

I agree with what the OP is saying. Don’t get me wrong, I think free content is unbelievably great, but I’ve been slightly depressed by the success of the living story.

I think it’s 60% a good idea. Making memories is important. However the other 40% includes nasty side effects especially to those joining later or returning after a break.

I’ve never wanted ArenaNet to collapse in any way and do not wish any harm on any of the developers, but I do admit to wishing certain aspects of the games would fail quite visibly in a way that would motivate a change or fix.

I was very happy to read about achievement rewards, I think that’s a big step in the right direction. It’s going to depend on what the rewards are and how they are chosen of course.

Maybe it can have the chain reaction of bringing some of my guild back into the game and making guild missions viable perma-content as well.

What Anet have shown in 1 year of game…is that they care only about the gemstore. Guys, open your eyes, this is not the same Anet that made GW1, they have not the same intentions. They don’t want to create an epic world, but thwy want a business world. And don’t think that im an hater or that i’m happy about this; i’m very sad about this but this is the reality. I play GW1 for 5+ years, i waited GW2 excited…but they lose the opportunity to make a great game, because the care more about the money than the quality; and they will never change their position.

it always boggles my mind that the people that claim they don’t like GW2 still post on the forums.

also, nice conspiracy theory. i mean, it’s not like GW1 had a cash shop or anything, right?

Stopped reading at the mention of guild halls being a major issue for you. While nice, they are not very important. After about a month no one would ever even go to the guild hall. It’d just be a piece of useless content that was cool for a day.

Not completely in line with the argument at hand but Id’ like to point out that GW1’s major cash shop elements were actually added much later down the road.

For many of us day one players, the edition of makeovers and costumes were well beyond our prime time in GW1. And that includes the nearly 10,000 hours I /aged in the game.

I’m convinced that the decision to add them was Guild Wars 2 based. After all, they didn’t show up in GW1 until after planning for GW2 had begun. GW1 may have even been sort of a testing ground for cash shop options in GW2.

Somehow they came to the conclusion of having gems purchasable with ingame gold and I’m very happy with that. Though at this point it’s hard to tell if all of the RNG and time limited offers are profit based or not, but they do look that way.

GW2 has no plans for paid expansions currently, as you can see.

money has to come from somewhere. ANet opted for an optional cash shop instead of charging money for an expansion every year.

Those that dont understand “housing” and guild halls are a BIG part of the game, and ARE important, propably didnt play gw1. But this is not a thread to talk abaut, “if they are important or not”. I hardly advise you to read this, and what Guild Halls could and should and did offer. I am sure you realize it by yourself, how important and good they can be.
Unlike most players presume, they can and do efect not only the gameplay but community to.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-Halls-5/first#post2359541

As for the “living story” and continent dropping. I agree, they propably wont give that expansion for free. Nor will they generally throw “new” content at us, by that i mean fully new zones and things that progress the whole thing forward.
Trough i presume, before expansion they will give us “weekly or monthly” content, and story that will lead us to the expansions.

Other topic. For permanent content. I played Gw1 for like 2 years alltogather. 1 of that was really intense, 5-6 or less or more hours a day for a whole years. And i did log in each day i was home. And Gw1 had no real events (besides holydays, that i totally ignored anyway) and it still gave me a lot of things to do. And i didnt contantly feel like rerolling, because classes offered, exacly the thing you first thout abaut them, unlike here.
So based on that, i do think that permanent content does worth a LOT more then the “living world” constant events. Dont get me wrong, its totalyl epic to see something grand as this. Formnig the world day by day is something really special and i must thank the devs for that really stressing effort. My solution would be a “moderation”. Make things balanced. Do give us some changes and events in the world, but also focus on premanent things.

As for cash shop, i dont find it bad, not good. Trough i think it could be really good.
I personalyl thout its a thing that will noly make the devs work even more and drop a LOT more content in the game. (for example additional skill skins and effects, more pets for rangers, or additional weapon fighting animations). That are to cool to be simply given for free. But things update so slowin shop and mostly offers useless items. And instead of adding more sensible things, they try to push things on costumers. (for example : if i dont want a supermegacleanerduster pro 2000, no matter how hard you try to sell it to me, i dont need it….give me a simple blender, thats what i need right now)

Actually the new dragon quest lines and the other 2 continents will be free. That’s the point they are driving with the living world and gem shop. The gem shop is there so they can make money and keep producing what we and they love. Right now they haven’t dropped in any contenents is because they are closed off because of the dragon crisis. And these lil minisodes are small stories that are like filler in anime as well as small windows into the next major story arch. After the other 3 dragons in tyria are killed it will be safer to sail to the other continents, but still fairly dangerous because dragons have awoken in Cantha and Elona as well. They will be dropping more proffesions and classes during the living world events but don’t expect to see another continent till Tyrias dragon crisis has been taken care of. And those that complain about there being a cash shop? Would you rather they just stop supporting the game and left it as is? I wouldn’t want to work for free and I don’t expect them too either. Recently I read a article that stated because of the micro transactions and the sales of the game they are giving us everything we want for free and the stuff in the shop isn’t pay to win either so why do we complain? This is by far one of the best games out there right now and with everything it’s a win win for everyone. It’s a win for them because they are getting paid to do what they love and it’s a win for us because we are getting content for free that other games charge you for. The living world does so much to make this game feel alive and more fun then other games. I mean would you rather just sit on your butt and wait just like you have to in WoW? I have friends that kitten that once their done with the quests there is nothing to do and they hate WoW for it. Guild wars living world makes it so we always will have something to do. I love this game for that reason. I don’t get bored with it and it’s a investment that pays for itself and keeps giving well beyond it’s worth.

By push i mean, they keep pricing them down, and this Special offer and that exclusive, but instead of trying to sell the same things on us, they should put in stuff, they dont need to “sell” but players want them to buy it anyway, because its good.
I hope its understandable what i mean. (“not like they can make you do anything” i understand, thats what you are trying to say)

Fuzzypanda. I hope what you say is true, but i must admit…killing the 3 other elder dragin is a bit LONG run. I might can only imagine that in like 2 expansion. I dont think they would lock down other “continents” and content or a chance to expansion (there are no real other ones so faar, look at the map) , for so long.

I agree what you say abaut WoW, but i personally feel the same way bored in Gw2 to. Events are not fun to me. I mostly totally ignore them in any game. ( i dont care for a snowball fight, i am here for indepth rpg, and to save Tyria with my fellow heroes…I clearly felt that in Gw1…not as moch here). Also i find combat to be boring after i swing the hammer like 120573 th time. No trait or utility skill can change that. THe only reson that combat is not supermegaultraboring is pvp, and endgame contents. Without contant events, and hardcore bosses in dungeons, the game would become extremely boring to. Trust me…i seen Gw2 “veterans” that have 5 legendary and quit because they find trait system to be extremely limited.
Ofc this all dephends on the point players see it. I cant wait the same opinon from a player with a single lv 80 playing somethimes for fun, and the same opinion from someone that waited 5 years for the game, knows most of the detailsabaut it, writes on its wiki, leads a guild since start, finished all instances atleast with 2-3 classes, goes “ranked” pvp all the time. Knows most mmorpg that came out and the system and idea they are based on.
THey simply can not see the same things and they cant have the same needs.
The important is the compromiss!!! If the “fun” player is happy with the way hammers work, and the “indepth” player is not, they should make an option that suits them both, or atleast they should have an option to chose from, what and how they want to use it then. The problem is : Many players dont care for others and keep pushing there own needs. What worse is? The players that not push them, but discard new ideas, because they are satisfied.
Oh and panda…try not not make “walls of text” give some enters so it becomes readable

They need money to make more content, and making more content takes time. It’ll take more than a year before you’ll see anything worthwhile I believe, so they are just making little things in the game to keep you occupied. I’m sure Arenanet knows it’s not enough, but they are trying their best. Also of course they want an epic world in their game, you’re missing all the great things they have already put into the game. Improvement will come with experience. Arenanet needs to use these experiments with living story so they can be confident in the new permanent content that will come in the future. Have faith.

As the title says , i am expecting big things from now on starting with this “patch”.
(Exuse my terrible english in advance)

I feel like most of the time people preface with “I may have poor English”, that person ends up speaking/writing it better than half the people I’ve met who have English as their first language. Your English is fine!

On topic: I look at it like I look at GW1. I don’t think I would have stuck with that game for 7 years if the game went how it did it’s first year or so. It’s not that it went bad, but it’s just every company takes time to adapt to their community (I guess some may say they are straying from their community but I don’t consider the forum an accurate representation) and find their stride. Going to give anet the benefit of the doubt and see where it goes the next few months. Think they are about to really hit their stride.

“They need money to make more content, and making more content takes time. It’ll take more than a year before you’ll see anything worthwhile I believe, so they are just making little things in the game to keep you occupied.”

I dont think thats how it works….no actually, thats what makes the money sink. You pay the devs even if they sit iddle? Yes. So why not make them work?

As for Sorin, i perfectly agree. I also felt the same way abaut Gw1. I saw the game, and thout its great, but prophecies was a bit of dissapointing, excluding the “story telling” part and graphics. But after factions, the game became awesome. All that content : 2 class, a whole continent worth to explore. Not to mention Alliance Battles, that are still my best pvp experiances after l2 sieges.

So yes, i think so to. After the “next big content patch” or expansion the game might become a LOT better. And i might say, this is the “first content patch” and news that sound like, something is moving.

Those complaining about the micro transactions in this game obviously just don’t have a clue what they are on about, sorry.

This is a b2p model, which had me surprised when it first released, since I’ve played games like WoW, Rift, Aion, Lineage 2, Tera (list goes on) – where you would have to pay monthly to play a game which most often had about half the content that gw2 actually has (with the exception of WoW, and that’s probably the reason that’s pretty much the only game that still pulls the subscription-thingy off.)

As if that would not be enough to satisfy most customers, the expansions are also free (anyone who played WoW knows that feeling when you have to dish up twice the one time fee of gw2, to be able to keep playing WoW for another month or two, each and every time a new overpriced expansion arrived.)

In addition to that, everything in the cash-shop can be exchanged for ingame gold, and even at a really okay price in higher lvls, when you got time to think about silly cosmetic items, boosts, etc.

Not even in League of Legends – that probably has the most critically acclaimed micro transaction system in any f2p game – do the players have the option to use ingame currency for cosmetic items and other things that do not affect fair play.

And yes, it is comparable to a free to play game, considering the one time fee you had to pay was 50 euro at most, and if you’re still not satisfied, then maybe it’s time to get a job and start earning those puny 50 euro again instead of sitting here crying over spilled milk.

that’s my 2£

I can’t get excited about future living story updates. So far, we got subterranean vermin, beach crabs and now merchants that have a penchant for ballooning.

There is nothing compelling about killing crabs/moles and talking to merchants.

I loved this game 4 months ago but I have learned to loathe it in a relatively short time period. The ‘living’ story is killing the game for me.

About the subterranean vermin the where an alliance backed up by the dragon premortus so i don’t think u can call that a small change in the world. I note the red dragon gates and reference the blue dragon gates in maw which summons jormags army. Was a reflection of growing dragon influences in Teria.

Its a bit off topic, since its not a discussion abaut micro transaction or “gem shop” and i mostly agree with you Fafnir, not sure you read what i sead abaut, “shop can and could be a realyl good thing” and what that is.
Currently i find the things in there (they are useless to begin with, whitch was stated at beginning anyway) that are actually compelling to most players needs. Sure sure character remake kits are good and a must have, so are some “beginner armor sets” but there is only 1 set right now….there are basicalyl no “combat” skins. And i am sure THAT is what would sell a LOT.
For example, take League of Legends, they buy the skins to show of in combat…mostly, but a LOT of players buy them because they want to have a better looking character while they play it. And “town clothes” are not that thing….You dont just o back to guild hall (that does not even exist yet) and show off your town clothes and costumes….you got dungeon instead and cant show of or look at the “cool” things you bought. Since there are basically none to buy. (i do hope some devs see this and ract soon)
Cool looking ice, fire, or any common themed item skins should be sold for gems. Exspecially since they can be bought with gold….this is the reson some would stay and play, or the reson some would spend money constantly for there “new theme” of character. I personally wanted to make Kirito from Sword art online…but there are actually no sword skins like that…nor armors like that. Same goes for Drizzt and a lot of things….since the “gem shop” and the game lacks costumizationability.
In my opinion ofc.

So yes game shop would be good….if it had a LOT more sales (like atleast 10 kind of sword skins for example). and not only non combat fluff, like holidays do…..I am not sure they realize, its abaut the combat….not abaut the non combat….i go play fantasy sisms if i want to live in a fantasy world and munch apples in a tavern in my pretty clothes, then go and bassh dragon pinatas…..
But this is a bit of off topic.

Update on the topic correspinding to :

“Guild Wars 2>News>Looking Ahead: Guild Wars 2 in 2013
Looking Ahead: Guild Wars 2 in 2013
by Colin Johanson on July 18, 2013 " Article

After rushing trough it yesterday, i kind of got in a good mood.
Trough the first thing that come to my mind is not positive, i still cant disregard the 80% of the article, that states awesome updates. (The updates i was looking forward like, since the start of the game,. Not to mention, the demand of these things was clearly stated on forums.)

So first of all i thout : Sigh, i dont need more jumping puzzles, i just cant understand, why they enforce these “platformer” part of Gw on us. I have no problem with them, as long as there is decent and normal content to. The problem with it is, thakittens the only content, they push on us lately, and the kitteninual update on Adventure box is another proof of that.
Summa Summarum : I have no problem with “platformer” parts, as long as it wont take the place from normal content. But it seems it does -> Going wrong way.

As second, looking at the pictures, the visuals seem to improve. Not as Graphically, but as in style. I hope it conclused medim and cloth armors, not only weapons and mobs or zones.

As third “New Skill and Traits”. FINALLY . I personally was lost in the Class system of Gw2, since i palyed Gw1 and it was amazing compared to the considerably “plain” system. Even if you count in trait system and anything you can think of. A decent gamer gets bored in like 3 months, even after 2 alts, and running dungeons constantly with “new” and new builds. The gameplay itself wont really change, no matter how you trait, build, gear. Its not impacting the “gameplay” as moch as it should be.
So i was extremely happy seeing, the “new skill and trait (and weapon?)” announcement. It was grandly demanded, by the better part of the community, that wants to improve this game. We can finally make a lot of builds. (hopefully)

Rewards : YESS. Finally there will be a reson to kill hard foes on “normal” maps. Its a really good improvement. (i repeat improvement!) Not to mention the “megaevent”. Sounds awesome. Events like “karka invasion” will finally impact he world a LOT more, and offer rewards more suited i guess.
Dungeon rewards….sounds decent, we will see how it works out.
Unique, bound crafting mats…sounds interesting, but i personally think crafting is underdesigned right now. Not really impacting the game, as moch as it could, should be. But the idea of obtaining them sounds fun, i encurage it…yes do detail crafting a LOT more. This is a good start!
“Crafting Taken to 500!” …This is the part i mentioned above actually. Detailing crafting. Trough i imagined it a differeant way. Will see how, this works out.

WvWvW….i personally dont care. Its a mindless zerging, compared to the amazing L2 castle sieges i experianced. I have a whole thread abaut, how it could be improved, but i am sure, Anet has his mind set on this…and as long as it goes that way, i wont care, even if I LOVE large scale warfare.

So i personally think, this concludes it mostly…correct me if i am wrong anywhere. All the “news” seem to be good, it feels like, the promised land is coming closer day by day, patch my patch. “My expecttations of big things” seems to be well placed, Anet seems to keep its promise…this time. Any opinions?

I understand that ALL mmo-s need atleast 4-5 years development time to get atleast to starting point, and atleast 1-2 years to get decent content, so the real game can begin.

I have to saw that World of Warcraft would be the outlier, it started incredibly strongly, built on it with BC and hyped WOTLK but went terribly downhill from there because they tried to change everyone even more than before

point is anet has a choice, big expansions will turn people away from spending on gems while living story will slowly bleed players faster than new ones come in due to resentment of hardcore players getting all the cool kitten
