Guild Wars 2

This little racecourse is a great addtion to the game is so fun and addicting! In a week i might get bored of it but im really enjoying this so far.

Would be great to keep it in the game and add new race courses etc.

But yea props to Arenanet for this great update, enjoying it all so far, feel’s like a crime it’s for 4 week’s but this is a great start to producing (hopefully) consistently great content!

Yup it’s fun, but the skill lag in that minigame has no equal in this game in any of the zones. Maybe WvW..and that “sometimes”.

Sry but it takes all the fun out of it.

So they succeeded in replacing Rollerbeetle Racing completely. Impressive.

The Reward system of that race is awful tough. I have gotten better rewards at 4th place then 1st. I see no point in making an effort anymore, and me being so competitive this makes me not wanna keep racing.

I have gotten 6 crystals at like 3rd place and i get 6 crystals at 1st place!

+ item wich is always in the same scale of meh

The NPC has a sporadic bug going on right now, where it’ll send you to a PvP map by mistake.

Despite that, I can’t wait to try the race!

I’m guessing this is the minigame that the sPvP-happy NPC is supposed to take you to?

sanctum sprint favors 50ms latencies, everyone else rubberbands and falls for no reason.

Oh I fell, but for a reason, I missed jumps! I’m a sucky timed JPer but I can do this one and it’s way fun. I even hit 9th place. I bet I’ll do better once I read some guides so I understand what the different power ups are for and what it means when “Solar Flare” appears on my screen in pretty letters.

If I didn’t have to go out on errands in an hour I’d spend my evening on it.

My only complaint is that whoever gets aspect mastery at the start will win 98% of the time and when in second place you get no offensive buffs and cant catch up.

The worst minigame ever. Laggy like hell.

It’s a fun minigame, but again I miss rewards/decent title track. I’ll enjoy it until I got all the achievements for it.

Lag makes it unplayable and sometimes the 3rd skills decides not to work properly. So i guess it’s skill + luck.

It will be fun without lag.

This lag make my character go back 2 s to his place before, does not teleport him when he falls, fall when he still in the platform (all lag in dragon ball but it worse).

Not at all! First it is a lagfest then on top of that you get dropped into races that have started or a winner was already done.

Just got to add a few words of this. Never ever before have I seen so many bugs in GW2 at all. Ignoring the lagfest even. I’m not rubberbanding that much, got decent broadband and PC as well.

But…
I do get stuck in floors/walls.
I do dash backwards.
I do randomly teleport into middle of nowhere.
I do start the race in the middle of the track.
I do join games that are almost complete/in the middle of completion.
I do the powered dash without the power up.
I do encounter invisible buffs (or is it just lag?)
I do get shared skill cooldown (??) – as in, use #3, can’t use #2 or #1; “Is on cooldown” message.
I do use attack skills on ‘myself’ – using the skill on enemy, enemy not affected, I got hit by same skill – coincidence… ? ## times a race?
I do NOT die from falling (and thus go back to bottom of the course)
I do NOT (sometimes) jump at all using #1 skill.
I do NOT leap using #3 skill – instead it asks me to point (standing next to the leap crystal or wtv)
And lastly I did get 10 completed for 9 runs in achievement window :confused:

I can’t remember more… though there sure have been more.
I kinda think I should move it into bug section, but then, it’s not like they read/reflect on this kind of reports…

PS. Other than that it’s really fun …

I enjoy it. Reminds me of mario kart. I always get hit on the fake pickups. xD

Always get in the top 3 now but can’t seem to stay in first. Usually get owned by someone on the final stretch. xD

Good fun though, other then I swear the lighting grapple fails outright sometimes. Not just in the Sprint though, but just in general.

There are a few things they need to fix about this game.

1- Lightning Pull. Sometimes when you’re on a platform and it can auto-jump you, you use it, and it wants you to select the landing point. Had this happen three times already and on platforms the auto-jump can make but the manuel landing one cannot so your only option is to fall.

2- Have some way to hurt the lead players. Kinda sucks when they get off ahead and just leave traps at chokepoints to slow you down the entire time.

3- Traps in general. How do they even work?! So the lightning one… it hurts people in… front of you?
Cause I keep getting hit by skills with NOONE around me.
Or the fact that, they’re placeable? Odd, all mine always get used. How do you place them? Is there a guide to this? A training room perhaps? NO…None of that!

I’ve played a few races so far. It’s good fun if a little buggy/laggy. Does anyone know if the infinite achievement for racing counts towards the meta? Once? More than once?

A little tip for people, there’s actually upgrades for the pick up skills. Keep it and continue picking up the bags. The lightning for example can be upgraded to a map wide skill that effects everybody. This only goes for the 3 skills after your heal.

Managed to get first on my first race, everything after that has been a disaster!

yeah I agree, bit dodgy in places but reminded me of a Mario kart style race when I first got in and saw the power ups, though didn’t have time stop and read what they did lol!

as a good friend of mine says, this is “AMAZEBALLS!” …. probably too much empahasis on caps here but whatever!

Not as bad as i feared when i first ran around the bazaar and had my initial encounters with the movement skills. That wind jump still mess with me tho, as i am too used to platformers allowing more mid-air control.

Btw, i seem to be stuck on some 70% of “use items” achievement. And i am fresh out of ideas about what kills i have not used, unless you actually have to hit someone for them to count…

It seems to use the invisible crosshair. If the lightning point you want to go to is close enough to the screen center, and within 1200 range, you go there. otherwise you get the ground target. I find myself mixing up the wind jump and the lightning one tho, and only noticing the landing point after jumping…

I’ve been having nothing but problems with that game. Lag when I’m near first, or everyone’s already done when I’m in last. Or I get warped back because the game’s kittened and throws me back without reason.
I just want to get the achieves for that game and never touch it again. in my opinion, racing doesn’t work well in mmos.

Mario Kart for GW2 – freaking love it.

It is my favourite minigame so far, and I only won twice (I’m terrible at it).

I have to agree that map/area is blast. I never laughed so hard seeing people, specially azura (male voice) falling from hights and splat. It is also very beautiful. Well done A-Net.

A couple of tips if you are looking to get the first place :

1) When you start the race, pick up every upgrades available, you will loose a couple of seconds but you will also get Aspect of mastery #4 wich will give you a considerable speed bonus when you use Ride of the sun #2.

2) Always favour Orange cristals over Blue cristals, even if it meens loosing a couple of seconds. You will get every second you lost back later when you catch up people with swiftness and vigor. Orange cristals can also be found in a lot of shortcuts, while those offers you a faster way to get to the finish, taking them are also a bit risky, so be aware of the danger and focus.

3) Always keep a shield #6 ready, there is nothing more dangerous to jump from pads to pads and get hit by a Wind Gust #7 or a Lightning Strike #8, jumping sequences usualy have shields ready to deploy, so use it for the stability until you get to the next shield bonus ready nearby while staying safe.

4) Never follow the same route as a player in the first place, if he isn’t to far from you let someone take the second place and suffer the booby traps instead of you. Taking fake cristals will cause you to loose every utility in your disposal, wich is something you do not want.

5) If you do have the first place, keep the pressure by laying fake cristals near jump pads and narrow paths, and do not forget to use your shield whenever you are going to get hit by a lightning strike, doing so will steal the power used against you and allow you to slow down people behind you even further.

6) Use coloured cristals to your advantage, if you look around you might find some shortcuts and win a couple of precious seconds!
- Red : Increase the velocity of Ride of the Sun.
- Blue : Increase the jump heigth of your next Wind Jump.
- Purple : Remove the cooldown of your next Lightning Leap.

Tried this. Was working until the game decided to lag. I actually made it to first place for once but nope, it seems the game wants to keep me from winning at all costs. So I quit.

I don’t get how the “Pickup Completionist” achievement works… I could have sworn I’ve used all 7 skills, but I’m still at 6….

I hated the roller beetle racing in GW1, but I really like this one. But then, I’m not competitive and just run the course for fun.

Nope nope I completely disagree with topic title now. This game completely SUCKS!
It favors amazing internet connections. How do I know this? I lag out the poodle because of terrible internet in this minigame.

Top tip. Right at the top just before the last turn there’s a rather out of place jump crystal. Turns out it’s there so you can jump over the summit and arrive at the finish line from the wrong side. That’s gotten me two out of my three first places

I wihs I had you guys’ problems right now.

I can’t even get to the NPC to enter Sanctom Sprint because the aspect skills are too glitchy for me to make it through the Labyrinthine Cliffs.

In Mario Kart the best items are gained by the players in last. In this game the best items are, in order:

1. Light Travel
2. Fake Item Box
3. Aspect Master
4. Grounded.
5. The three utilities.

First place usually gets Grounded, so other players have no chance of hurting them with the three utilities. In addition, those not in the lead have to deal with fake boxes, which even if they’re obvious, still take a long time to swerve around.

Get first place once, never lose it.

As ESKan said I too feel like it’s too easy to stay first place once you get there. They dont have to deal with fake power ups and get to place plenty themselves, if possible at the cork screw jumps where the #2 is guaranteed to get hit by em.

You win this minigame if you get the Aspect Mastery off of the first powerup location. Just do 2 > 1 three times and you cant be beat. Once you are ahead you just lay fakes and use Grounded and you dont have to deal with anything other than the occasional lightning strike. It is FAR FAR to easy to stay in 1st.

Also yesterday the lag was really bad the first few times I tried this. I came back around 9pm EST after they updated and it seemed to be much better.

I agree that it’s quite fun. But like many others I think that there needs to be more ways to harass people in the lead. Currently you can’t really catch up very effectively. Maybe make the skills effect every person on the track instead of close range? I would like it more if the rankings would change more dramatically during the race and the distances weren’t so big between racers.

In Super Mario Kart there is the blue shell that automatically hits the leader (and everyone in its path), perhaps something like this so the winner isn’t always determined by who gets a good start. The checkpoint boost item is a good way to catch up but if you miss a few jumps you’re in the bottom and you stay there.

We would need a blue quaggan that hugs the first player for some seconds.

Thats the thing though, Mario Kart is total nonsense. Its gone WAY WAY to far in the direction of letting everyone have a chance. It is actually better to stay in 5th place in Mario Kart until the last lap as it gives access to the best items so you can just stack a couple good ones then crush people for the win.

The DS online mariokart basically proved this, if you watch any race people are actually TRYING to be in 5th instead of leading because its way easier to win from there instead of first.

Also I think you shouldnt be able to win if you miss jumps but should be able to beat someone who just got lucky on the first two sets of power ups.

Same here as well, which was rather annoying since I don’t PvP too much.

Despite not being very good at it, i do find this Mini game to be great fun, would be nice to race against friends though

It’s a “nice” mini game. If only it didn’t rubberband me in every fricking direction then maybe I’d classify it as “fun”.

I love getting dropped into games already done and it tells me to stand there for 5 minutes until the next race. Then when I get to that race I lag all over the place…
