Thanks for another luck based title.
50+ races. 90% 1st places. Well, 2nd, because I’m dancing at the finishing line waiting for someone else to take 1st, as I don’t need the title anymore. Luck?
Awesome job ANet, best mini game yet.

agree it’s not that hard to place in the first 3 places, to be first u need to know how to use the skills, but u must admit thakittens a bit buggy, especially with the purple teleporattion skills which sometimes randomly throws u off the platform(without a trap skill being planted there), happened to me several times, oh and the falling penalt is too kitten severe…
You must also have a lag-free connection, not live in or anywhere near Australia, etc.

a lot of people seem to think you need the crystals for score, so you just by pass them as they collect… you either have been unlucky in finding a race like that or you are one of those people going for the crystals.
I got into a game a minute or more late and got 3 teleports in a row, coming in 3rd, seconds after the first 2 (I could see them). RNG can win it for you.
If you can get the aspect master power up 2+ times in a row at the start, it’s almost a guaranteed win, assuming you don’t mess up.
you have 25 tries to get first place before youre welcome to start whining about it
I had a hard time for the first four runs. I kept getting 9th to 12th place. BUT, then my fingers finally got a feel for the mechanics. First place on the the 5th run.
This game takes skill. Knowing when to use your defense and offense is key. Tip – try attacking someone while they are in mid super jump, and watch them fall.
I won one last night simply by keeping mid line so I don’t get slammed by absolutely everyone’s items, then got the number 4 skill, boosted ahead of the first place person, dropped a fake item which luckily was Gale right in front of them, then held first place right until the end. At which point I used the shortcut to the finish line.
It’s really not all about luck. It’s PvP.

Lol, I got lost the first time I ran it and didn’t even get to finish as I spent so long running round the track the WRONG WAY!
But once I had the track down it’s not too hard to place reasonably well, and I even achieved the Sanctum Sprinter title (which, as a general non-winner of things, I am SO chuffed about – don’t care how many people have it too).
It’s all about timing, knowing what the boosts you can use are, and getting a good line round the course (and obviously, knowing where the short cuts are). It’s not all luck (any race involves some luck, it’s impossible to eliminate). As John Widdin said above, it’s PvP.
You’re saying this achievement is only acomplishable if you have no life, yet you’re talking about having played 25 games! That’s less then one game a day during the time you’ll probably be able to play it! And seriously it wouldn’t be an achievement if it were easy. Come on!
35 runs in 2 days and you are saying you can’t play 24/7?
Also it has nothing to do with luck. This is the first minigame where there is almost 0 luck involved. I managed to win 23/25 races so far. one of those losses was my first run where I was learning the course and the second loss was to someone who was actually better than me (that was a fun race)
Always go for the defensive power-ups, they are always better than the offensive ones, unless you are already in first then you’ll want an even mix of both.
Only take the shortcuts if you can do so smoothly and without falling. slowing down is always better than falling, and going fast is always better than going very slow to do a short cut.
If you are not in the top 3 then keep grounded up as much as possible so you aren’t constantly running into fake power-ups. If you are in the top 3 save grounded until you see a stun about to happen.
I’ve only had about 12 races so far. I’m pretty sure at least two of the players in that race were using speed hacks (standard warping tell). I don’t mind though. I got my wind catcher drop from a chest and it seems the worse I do in the race the better rewards I get from the chest. Players are taking it way to seriously, so I take my time so they have to wait for me hue hue.
I’ve joined over 10 races so far.
I win at least 90% of the time.
I’m a pro.
People should be more willing to let others win. If you already have the title, let others win. It doesnt matter in regards to loot at the finish, you get the same rewards being first or last.
While I agree it’s nice for people who have already come first once to let others have the title, at the same time I do think that it rather demeans the point of having that title. I mean, the whole point of a race is to pit yourself against others and try to win. Sometimes, that means you get put in a race with people better/faster/luckier than you this time. Sometimes, you have a perfect run and you win.
It’s not really winning if you don’t actually, er, win, is it?
In JQ if anyone need the title, they just ask in chat and we let them be first.Easy as that
1st place on the sixth run… it’s not about luck
I got first place in my third run. Traps at choke points for the win.
Another run I was in first until I missed a jump and promptly dropped to 8th, mid air lighting is evil.
Why should anyone be entitled to all the achievements? If you cant do it its to bad for you. Thats the point of an achievement someone does something thats others didn’t. They shouldn’t just hand them to you for free or it wasn’t an achievement because you didn’t achieve anything.
You need a bit of luck to win but its not all about luck. Once you learn the track and some good strategy, you can consistently be in the top spots and since then its only a matter of some tries to get 1st spot. When I started to play I was like at 10th place each time for the initial ~10 races or so. After that I got a hang of it and started to do better. Yesterday evening I was almost always in top 3 with several wins. Practice makes you better. Latency issues might be a real concern on the other hand.
PS. I once was around 8th and then got a lucky checkpoint teleport and finished 2nd. Keep trying. In the long run, luck can only help you.

I feel ya op, I couldn’t win legitly simply due to the fact that the skills are so laggy and don’t work half the time. One race i did win simply because i got the light travel like 4 times and the 4 folks in front of me were waiting letting someone else win (there are good people in the world). Keep playing maybe you’ll run into a group like i did.

wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
OP, Your message was totally lost on me. All I read was “boo hoo, poor me”.
Try to form a constructive argument as to why their design choice was not conducive to a positive playing experience, and maybe people will take your issue more seriously.
I don’t understand how this is a luck based achievement…luck is involved sure, but luck is involved in everything.
I don’t mean to be rude……..but it’s not nearly as luck based as you think, you’re just bad.
That being said, I suggest you guest over to tarnished coast and do it. Every time I have done it, those of us who already have the title and top 3 achievement have stopped just before the finished line and let those in 4th, 5th and 6th pass us. We’re just there for the fun of it + plus the chance at catcher skins at this point as rewards do not scale with placement.

I had this happen to me, except instead of waiting for the 2nd place guy to cross they crossed first and started dancing thus taking away my ability to get first. I had one guy even return to follow me while telling me just how slow I was. I don’t bother trying anymore after over 50 races wasting 7 minutes each to get frustrated. I got 2nd and thus that achievement. If there are nice PVP players like you apparently out there I have not met them.
Here’s an idea ANet, QUIT making every bloody mini game based on PVP!! I though the races were suppose to be working together to defeat evil and not trying to slit each others throats.

If this mini-game works like the other mini-games before it, it doesn’t matter which server you’re on. You enter an instance that doesn’t “belong” to any server (similar to overflows and dungeons).
And please don’t assume that the OP “is just bad” – many of us have massive problems controling the jump skills due to sudden skill lag, as seen here:
Watch the video and judge yourself: lack of skill? Really?

Not entirely sure why the OP felt the need to make a sarcastic thread, but I managed to make it to first, even with a bit of lag.
It only took me to race 7 to get my first win and since then I have placed top 3 in almost every race where rubberbanding doesn’t occur. A helpful tip, at the beginning of the race ignore the “item” jars and grab the jars that give you things like Grounded and Aspect Master. If you get Aspect Master in one or both of those first couple of jars at the beginning it can make the difference in cruising to victory. I have never lost when gotten Aspect Master at the start. You can just use the Sun Skill and blast past everyone and while your doing that they are attacking each other most of the time. If you maintain first place then you can grab the occasional jar for grounded but I mostly stick to item pick ups and just place traps where you know most people have to run. Those fake Items have some crazy AOE on em. Good Luck!

Seeing as how the OP never mentioned those problems and instead pulled the no life excuse, yes I am going to assume they are just bad.
Oh hey, the old “I have a life, so I fail!” excuse. That’s new.
You may just want to ask before the race starts if you can cross first. There was someone who made a post about the group they were in waiting at the finish line and not crossing so others could get this achiev.
It has very little to do with luck imo. To win:
- spam 2 and 3, use these skills whenever they are on cooldown
- the first 2-3 “lines of upgrades” after start, go for the blue defensive upgrades until you get skill 4 “aspect master”. So if you pick up one blue and it doesn’t give you skill 4, grab the next one. There is a chance you won’t get skill 4 out of both of the 2 blues, but usually you will get skill 4 if you pick up 2 blues from one line. This will give you a huge boost at the beginning of the race. Again here: spam 2 and 3. When you select 3, make the farthest jump you can make.
- try to think like a formula 1 race(ideal race line): take the most straight forward and shortest path you can see, cut corners when you can
- save “grounded skill” and use it whenever you are jumping the lightning nodes.

You must also have a lag-free connection, not live in or anywhere near Australia, etc.
Basiclly you must live in America and have a decent connection to stand a chance of even FINISHING. (Assuming you’re playing on NA, check the tech support section for the sheer wall of people reporting lag issues in recent months)
Garnished Toast
As someone playing from Australia, I can attest to this being fine (ie. skill far greater than rng in terms of success) when I a get run that doesn’t involve repeated leaps triggering but not moving me, lightning pull not properly updating to the fixed target version or just completely failing the distance due to lag.
When the skills do start to fail however, I can go from 1st with a good lead from aspect master power-ups to near last because I have to make some lightning jump but the skill will only send me part way and then rubberband slightly further forward once I’m already falling.
I got it on my 7th or 8th run, so now I just hang out in the back as I make my way to 25 total. I’ve seen other people doing it to – once they have the title people generally are just there to finish the “Crowd Favorite” achievement and will gladly let others go ahead.
I’ve seen this happen both days so far so I don’t think it’s ridiculously uncommon.
I totally understand the pain of those who are physically far away from the server – it sucks and there’s nothing you can do about it.
But if you have low latency it’s just a matter of knowing the course and luck isn’t really a huge factor – yeah, it helps but I’ve been getting top 3 without using any attacks and largely ignoring the power ups (since I’m not trying to win any more). Maybe people will improve in general as time goes on, but right now it doesn’t really take much – just knowing the course.
You don’t know how to play the game right, that’s why you aren’t in 1st.
Learn what each skill does and play STRATEGICALLY and you will win.
Important tips:
-Learn the best spots to place bombs. Don’t place them out of nowhere or in suspicious spots. Place them on lightning pads or narrow corridors. Place them at the end/start of crystal chains
-Use grounded when you notice lightning will strike
-Keep an eye out for shortcuts

Going for the crystals helps, because they increase your endurance, so you can spam #2 more.
Really? As many people have said, coming in 1st is super easy.
Pro Tip: If you hit an Aspect Mastery off of the first pick up and no one else does, you have to try and lose. All you need to do is 2 skill into the 1 skill so you do the insane OP nonsense super jump. Three of those in a row and you are so far ahead that it doesnt matter, start crapping out those fakes and just run to an easy win.
Also just ask and people will let you win if they already have title, I know I have since winning gets me nothing extra, why not be a good guy?
Sounds more like a L2P issue, a game like that is not luck at all…if you aren’t good enough to get 1st you don’t deserve the title

My sister, who plays on her laptop and gets a maximum of 16 fps at a time if she’s lucky, wins the race almost every time she plays and she plays a lot. I don’t think it’s luck based. You just need to know when to use certain power ups and have a good route to take.
I thought it was luck based too, then I played a bit more, the only “luck” is hoping people arent kittens about their skills and even then you have number 6. Tip: Go for a blue item at the very beginning to hopefully get skill 4, then spam 2 as much as you can to get a lead

That must have been YOU who knocked me off the pad when I landed last nite… Well played my friend. I’ll get you yet!
