Ok im more than sure ill get bombarded with comments akin to “ungrateful insert swear” but seriously?
We get 2 armors, 2 armors which are blatantly heavy sets.
How does either of those two fit on a Necromancer, Thief, Ranger?
I dont see it being all that good looking on a Mesmer or Engi either.

Its obvious that this is made for Guardians/Warriors and perhaps that Hellfire set will go with CoF light for some sort of a Elemeltalist who prefers the use of the Fire Attunement.

But wow, just wow.
Those are clearly heavy pieces and dont really fit into any light set aside from CoF and i guess the whole monster look of Hellfire could only work with the Arah medium.

To add insult to injury, im 100% sure that they might at some point go and push out a few other pieces due to the outrage.
But your achivement milestone sets are bound to not have an option to “store” your choice no.

To clarify, i dont like these sets since i cant do jack kitten with them.
BUT i will have to choose one on the milestone cause i doubt ill have a choice.
And then when they release something worthy of a light/medium class ill have to grind up to the next milestone.

Me, who doesent like chasing over achievements will be forced to do so cause the light sets will be locked under some very very high milestone.
Aint nobody got time for that.

This is just the start and more items will be added in the future. But I do have to agree with you, these new skins will look ridiculous with most light armors. Also its a shame that we can’t use dyes on them, + they are not even full sets(!). I’ll wait for the new skins to come out.

I would be significantly happier if they were full sets.

But I actually understand why they are like they are. Making full sets would require significant work on each piece of avoid clipping; medium armor pants would need to be very different from heavy armor pants in order to avoid clipping with all those long coats.

I think the real issue is how ArenaNet moved away from the costume system they had in GW1. A costume was just a two sets piece – one covering the entire body, and one for the head. This allowed designers to create full “armor” sets without having to worry about clipping with individual pieces.

Glad i have likeminded people, but i think the real problem is like i stated that the sets that will spawn afterwards will require ridiculous amount of achievement grind.

I hereby implore Anet, if you cant change it before the patch itself to repatch it in such a way that we get a token or like a saved up point in the UI which we can hold on till something we want rears its head in the achievement prizes.

Cause its very bad to make people grind up higher on the achievement ladder to get something just cause they were forced to get something they didnt like beforehand.

It is disappointing.

When first announced I thought it might be adding full sets (infernal being heavy, celestial being medium and so on) instead it’s just three armour pieces that look the same for all three armour types. Like this it feels cobbled together or half finished.

The weapon skins are better at least.

Looking the same for all armor types isn’t a major issue, IMO – it would give more options to the light armor users who want to look like a soldier, or to the medium armor users who don’t want to use the long leather coats.

The lack of a full set is what bothers me. I used to mix and match armors all the time in the original GW, but that’s something harder to do in GW2. I wish we could have full sets, even if they didn’t have all the particle effects of the shoulders, gloves and helmets.

I expect better; these pieces weren’t designed in two weeks any more than the full sets of Aetherblade armor in the gem store were designed in two weeks. So I expect them to look better and be complete sets.

I’m not too taken.

  • I’m not interested in wearing heavy (looking) armour on my main characters (engineer and mesmer)
  • I’m not interested in yet another lava-based armour: between CoF armour, SE armour and the the molten gauntlets I think we’ve covered all the angles of that style
  • I’m not interested in armour that I can’t die to go with the rest of my set, especially when I’m forced to mix & match. According to dulfy.net these armour pieces can’t be died, although that may have been the preview only and changed for the live version

But I feel like I’m the winner here: less pressure for me.

I wouldnt worry about the Necro. Halloween is just a few months away. If it’s anything like last year, you will have plenty of armor options for the necro (I love my shoulders and weapon skins from last year). Combined with the stuff from Arah and weapon drops like Reach of Zhaitan and crafted items like Eye of Rodgort, I think the necro is covered better than most professions.

What I hate about the the 2 new armor sets is that it’s 3 pieces only.

You won’t see me putting effort making a legendary weapon or one of the many weapons you can make at the Mystic Forge. I get armor for stats and/or for how it looks, I get weapons for stats only. This game doesn’t give much attention to stats so no reason for me to put a lot of effort into making a weapon.

You’d think they would give armor the same attention they give weapons but for some reason they don’t.

You’d think they would give armor the same attention they give weapons but for some reason they don’t.

The reason is simple…. weapons are easier. Making one weapon is basically a single model scaled up or down depending on race, while a set of armor is basically 6 independent models, of which they need to create at least 4 different versions of each (assuming male-female for human, norn and sylvari and male each for asura and charr, since females usually share the same armor).

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.

This. I don’t like any of the new weapon skins. I’m sure there’s going to be lots of people who like them and that’s really great, I’m happy for them. But I basically have to choose a skin I know I’m never going to use as my ‘reward’ for each new tier I unlock.

I think it’s safe to assume that someday there are going to be more rewards because there’s going to be way more achievement points possible than there currently are rewards for them, and I’d really rather be able to hold on to my choices until something I would actually like to use comes along.

Don’t get me wrong, I think they’re implementing the system well for the most part. At least once you unlock a skin it’s yours forever as many times as you want to use it. But the choice of rewards is disappointingly limited. I was hoping to see some more interesting titles you could unlock with achievement points as well, since there seems to be a dearth of PvE titles. It’s unlikely that they’d go back and let you switch reward choices retroactively when new rewards come out, so it feels a waste to get stuck with something I know I’m not going to use.

Completely agree with OP. The designers are either lazy or perhaps they’re being rushed to release something that they do it in half measures. I would much rather wait a while longer, and have the choice between lots of different armor sets (and COMPLETE sets) across light, medium and heavy.

It’s weird that the armor skins they have released so far are obviously suited to heavy armor professions, when there are only 2 heavy professions in the game, and 3 light and 3 medium professions. If anything, light and medium should be getting preferential treatment, especially when the diversity of medium armor in this game leaves a lot to be desired.

So far their priority seems to be focused on heavy armor skins, flame weapons and gauntlets, plush back pieces and silly themed costumes. This is a fantasy game. Shouldn’t there be a priority to being able to diversify our look with serious armor?

The Zenith and Dragon Jade weapons are FANTASTIC. We just need the armor to start matching this level of creativity.

Typical warrior favoritism. Can’t only give them the best legendary in the game, nope, have to make every new armor especially for them too. Same thing happened with molten gloves and dragon helmet. They design armor for heavy classes and stick all other classes with them because they are too lazy to design more than one set.

I’m not really a fan of either, thats my personal opinion. We have more than enough flaming, molten, glowie, armor for the 12 yr olds. Radiant wouldnt be as bad if it wasnt tailor fit for guardians. . . I couldn’t see any of my characters using either set but thats just my preferences. Maybe if they released the other half of the armor set I could make a more educated decision but we’ll cross that bridge when(if) we get to it.

There are people, who will like the “heavy” skin, despite the race/class/taste. Just like glacial/stone/destroyer/dragon/Chaos gauntlets in GW1 were.

I highly doubt this will be ever a complete set (I don’t see them as a pieces of a light set anyways), just like the gauntlets, it seems like these were made especially to give us more options to mix/match.

At least Chaos/dragon gloves were dyeable.

Do you never go the other direction and re-dye your armor to match the new pieces?

Not really, no.

I re-dye occasionally of course, but each one of my characters has a certain personality and a colour palette that goes with it – I pick up the armour pieces that complement their style, not the other way round.

Example, the jade pistol / shield / rifle were a good fit for my main (engineer) so I picked them up and then made minor changes to her outfit to round it all off, but only because it was a good fit to begin with.

Another example, the reason I didn’t pick up the unlimited molten pick-axe was because the lava animation didn’t appeal to me for the same character.

And another, the reason I put zero effort into getting a legendary right now is that none of them suit my characters’ styles.

In order to re-dye completely based on individual armour parts, I would have to find parts that blow me out of the water completely; and that, so far, hasn’t happened; and it is pretty much guarantee to not happen with a medium or light armour set that was designed for heavy armour.
