So I managed to get a hold of some keys doing map completion. I opened one chest, and got a green Essence of Luck, 5 Bags of Alliance Supplies, and some booster.

EoL’s are in the drop table for the chests? Come on.

Jeez, if they’re going to place essences on the BLC at least give us the LEGENDARY version…

I got one the other night too. I thought that was a pretty crappy return on investment.

Look at it this way, with a little essence of luck maybe next time you will be LUCK ier.

those chests really need to feel more like a chest of goodies. Like, you open it and out pops like 5 random cheap things (such as essence of luck, bag of alliance supplies, crafting materials, booster, …) and 1 random expensive thing (such as a key, rev orb, perma contract, repair canister, ticket scrap, …)
currently, opening it feels so meh because it’s crappy things and 1 crappier thing and rare rare chance of something useful. If you opened it and got a lot of crappy stuff, that at least feels like a lot. Wouldn’t you prefer a chest that gave 8 greens items, 1-3 of each metal ore, and 3 × 50 essence of luck to one that has a 1 in 10 chance to give an exotic item and a 9 in 10 to give a blue item?

Players will now get two rewards plus a booster from each chest. This means they can potentially get two of anything from a single chest on the following list:

The 5 bags are only a temporary bonus.

Pretty sure the 5 bags was in addition to the normal 3 items per chest.

I’ve opened probably a total of 35 chests since I started in Nov. 2012. Ten of those were from keys I recieved from opening black lion chests, another 10 were from a time before I realized buying keys was a complete waste of gems. I have yet to get anything of value from a chest.
Given, it’s only 35 of them, but I’m sure as hell not going to waste more money on keys. I’ll use them if I get a drop, but that’s it. A slot machine at a shady casino is a better chance than a BLC

Uh, no. They were one of the three drops.

OP might have gotten two (2) EoL, which might count toward the 2 drops + booster.

aside from all other points made here, they really should change than masterwork and rare essence of luck to exotic and legendary…
+1 SP vs. 50 luck
black lion salvage kit vs. 100 luck
revive orb vs. 50 luck
claim ticket scrap vs. 100 luck
50 or 100 essence of luck is hands down the worst thing on there, by a wide margin. here, I made a list:
50 luck, 100 luck, ………………………………………….. Large Guild Discovery ………………………………………………. metabolic primer, box of fun, unid dye, trait reset, hair stylist, …
at least 200 and 500 luck is a little better (would knock out about half of those dots).
It’s like giving out 2-10 gold prizes, throwing in a few 90 silvers here and there, then for the really unfortunate, here’s 2 copper. In fact, I would prefer 2 copper to 50 luck.

There are about 100 of these post combined with glory boosters in BL chest.

When you salvage thousands worth of luck essence every day and need ten-thousands worth of it to advance your magic find by a single percent, finding a tiny bit of luck essence in a BL chests feels like being the butt of a bad joke.

BLCs need to seriously be reworked if you ask me. They have so much junk in them, and the majority of items aren’t useful for the major part, nor desirable. Given you’re paying, and it’s a gamble, they should at least make the rewards somewhat likeable.

Other than a ticket what are you hoping to get? rest is all junk.

Not really, there are the endless tonics (I got lucky and got an endless furniture one a few days ago), minis (2-3g, but still alright) and the very rare and extremly expensive permanent bank contract, hair stylist etc. These last are the true treasures of the BLC IMO. IIRC, there is currently an offer to buy a perma hair stylist contract for 2.500g on the TP…

Yeah but those are much rarer than the scraps even. I think when you buy a black lion chest its like lottery, decent chance at a scrap and then SUPER rare chance for some goodies. But yeah it is a scratch off, dont think you can buy 100 and be GUARANTEED to get what you need.

Honestly the vast majority of stuff you get from the chests are pretty bad. Pretty poor return on the investment in time or money depending on how you go about getting the keys for them. On rare occasion you’ll get something that makes it worth while but at the end of the day it’s like gambling.

Is there a chance for better drop without a living story when event items aren’t dropping from BL chests or it doesn’t matter?
