Hey all sent an email to support about how when someone buys an item for their account through the trading post for example bag or bank slot and when they reach maximum you can’t use that item, but why the hell do they let you buy any amount of them without notification this is the email in response I got

Hi James,

If I’m reading your note correctly, you’re pointing out that you are being allowed by the system to purchase more of an item than you can use. I see your point!

I don’t know if we can add something in the game that checks the account and recognizes that it has maxed out on a certain item, then warns the player, “You are trying to buy bank slots, but you already have the maximum allowed on an account.” I think it would be a very nice feature, but I don’t know how complicated it would be to add it, nor if we have team members available to construct the code, to write the content, to create the art or implement changes to the User Interface functionality, etc.

What I’m trying to say is that sometimes what seems like a simple request can be very complicated. But I’m not at all discounting the idea — not at all!

I’d like to ask you to post this in the Suggestions Forum. I would like to see a post there so I can point the dev team to the suggestion. I can send an internal email about the suggestion, but it’s grand if I point to a thread where someone make a suggestion and a dozen people chime in with “Yes, this would help me, too.”

Would you please post it there and let me know you have done so (and provide me with the thread link)? I can take it from there. I must again say that I don’t have any idea if this change could be done, nor what a timeframe it would take if the team can make such a change, But I can assure you the idea will be shared with the devs.

Just want you all to know that they will let you buy anything and as much as you like but you will not be able to use them.

When buying something like a bank slot, I prefer to do it through the bank interface instead of the gem store (this is different from the trading post). That way I know that the bank slot I’m paying for can be unlocked and see it unlocked immediately.

It’s been going on a year now, and they haven’t fixed that bug. This isn’t the first time someone has complained, if it was easy to fix it would have been done a long time ago. The best thing you can do is be careful when purchasing anything, for real money or in-game currency.

My mistake, I thought it had always been available through the gem store.

Simple mistake, although on Arenanet’s part I don’t know why they didn’t just make an option in the Trading Post that would double-check with your bank/inventory and then verify (for inventory slots), but not for bank slots.

I think Bank Slots should have a purchase 8 times (similar to the Laurel “Crafter Starter Kit” but 8 instead of 1), with a counter that says how many times you’ve purchased it and a limit next to that. X/8 bank tabs.

For Inventory, it should show the X/8 as well, but verify if you’re at 8 in case you want to purchase for another character (have a pop-up appear).

It’ll be a lot more coding, but it would save Customer Support a lot of time.

Same would hold true, save Customer Support time, if they made TP purchases not count toward personal e-mail or modify the e-mail window so game, personal and TP mail is on separate tabs.

The email quoted is a little vague, but the point can be summarized as “doing this is a lot more complicated than you think.”

Personally, I think that if they couldn’t guard against this happening, they should not have added the option to the gem store in the first place. But they did, and they can’t, so the only thing players can do is be careful when making purchases like this.

It would save the support team SO much time if the laurel vendors checked before selling you the same unique ring twice.

I think it’d save customer support a lot of time and effort if players learned how to read.
